Today at 1:00 p.m. ET, RNC chairman Michael Steele will be giving a major speech meant, in part, to reassure Republicans that he has control over the party. He is facing internal challenges from RNC members, including “a new set of checks and balances” on his power to “dole out money.” Today in an interview with Fox News, Steele suggested that if too much of his power is taken away, he may resign:
They can contemplate all they want to, but the reality is if they want a figurehead chairman you can have a figurehead chairman, but it won’t be Michael Steele.
Watch it:
Recall that just a few months ago, when asked whether he may resign, Steele replied, “Aww, trust me. Not me Baby! Nuh-uh. Not happening. No way, no how!”
It’s like a train wreck… part of me wants to avert my eyes… but I just can’t…
May 19th, 2009 at 12:12 pmOh, please don’t go, Mike, please! You’re the best thing to come along since, well, Palin and NotJoeTheNot!
And we love your slogan for the GNOP:
Not me Baby! Nuh-uh. Not happening. No way, no how!
PEACE
May 19th, 2009 at 12:13 pm“Steele threatens to quit the RNC if he’s pushed to become a ‘figurehead chairman.
Uh, doesn’t he know that that’s the only reason he was picked to head the RNC.
RIP

Isn’t rush already the figurehead chairman ?
May 19th, 2009 at 12:14 pmI figure his head will soon be engulfed by his ballooning body rendering him totally useless even for the gop.
But he’ll gladly remain on as long as he can be Rush’s finger puppet.
Boy, I’ll bet that finger is **C-O-L-D** some mornings, huh, Michael??
May 19th, 2009 at 12:15 pmA tool by any other name is still a tool.

May 19th, 2009 at 12:16 pmWhat a topic for a thread… who says TP doesn’t love us?
Let the Snarking Begin!!!!
May 19th, 2009 at 12:17 pmI think that is what the RNC is aiming for. They don’t want to be embarrassed by firing Steele, so they are trying to push him to resign.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:17 pmlol !
May 19th, 2009 at 12:18 pmBrings to mind a Carole King song that seems appropriate…
“It’s too late, baby, yeah its too late.”
May 19th, 2009 at 12:21 pmPerhaps Steele will switch parties, too.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:22 pmI guess Mikey doesn’t know yet…
May 19th, 2009 at 12:22 pmWe’z gottsa have Michael ins da hizzah.
He da man.
Michelle Bachman
May 19th, 2009 at 12:23 pmSteele doesn’t even trust his own party. Poor sap.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:23 pmIt would be a pity if he left, since he is SOOOOOOO good for the Democrats.
But then I realized this is just empty talk. He’s already become a figurehead chairman — in fact, that’s pretty much what he was elected to be. Window dressing. The “we’ve got a black guy, too” response to Barack Obama.
We’ve seen his evolution from a guy who was willing to state the obvious, to a guy who settled for not going along with some of the loonier ravings of the right, to a guy who now spews talking points on “auto-parrot”.
He’s settled in to the figurehead position. If he was really going to leave the RNC for that reason, he’d be out already.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:23 pmWho will be the next figurehead RNC chairman?
Trannie Coulter? Brillo? Beck? Bachman?
Should we start a pool?
May 19th, 2009 at 12:26 pmSteele loses its strength at relatively low heat.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:28 pmUncle Ho Says: Should we start a pool?
How about Alan Keyes?
May 19th, 2009 at 12:29 pmHe’ll resign, for any number of reasons, and then never be heard
May 19th, 2009 at 12:30 pmfrom again, which will be a genuine loss for comedy lovers
everywhere.
How about that highly annoying little middle school kid….
May 19th, 2009 at 12:31 pm.
LIE-CHEAT-STEELE
The “NEW” G(no)P
He already IS figured into the equation…
… Because LIE-CHEAT-OXY doesn’t work so well.

May 19th, 2009 at 12:31 pmWait!
The NEXT RNC chairman; Joe the Plumber!
PERFECT!
May 19th, 2009 at 12:33 pmComedy Central continues.
Noooooooooooooooooooo! He can’t go! We need him to be there forever!
:o)
May 19th, 2009 at 12:33 pmHAHAHAHAHA…….BUH BYE
May 19th, 2009 at 12:36 pmNot me Baby! Nuh-uh. Not happening. No way, no how!
Steele is totally clueless. The RNC is not the center of gravity for his failing party. It doesn’t matter if he is a figure-head or not.
All the action is over at the Irrelevance in Broadcasting Network in the formerly-nicotine-stained hands of Boss Hawg Limpballs.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:37 pmMichael Steele is no figurehead. Figure-a**, yes, but not a figurehead. Was he the only one who didn’t realize this would be his position once elected as chair? Go figure.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:38 pmDid Steele really think he had “power” within the RNC, LOL? Steele better get ready for his “lynching” there coming after you boy.

I disagree; He might resign, but FOX “News” always picks up the castoff and/or criminal Republicans.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:42 pmYou think he will run with the race card?
With Steele on the helm and the GOP pundits advocating for proof that the CIA misled Pelosi, I’m in 7th heaven.
Keep it up GOP!
May 19th, 2009 at 12:42 pmUncle Ho Says:
Wait!
The NEXT RNC chairman; Joe the Plumber!
____________
Geeze, Unka… keep up with events…
He’s now Joe the Pole Dancer…
May 19th, 2009 at 12:57 pmBuh-bye! Don’t let the door hitcha where the good Lord splitcha!
May 19th, 2009 at 12:59 pmUncle Ho: Who will be the next figurehead RNC chairman?
Trannie Coulter? Brillo? Beck? Bachman?
Should we start a pool?
Nope. I nominate Mr. Bill, as in “Ohhhh Noooo, Mister Bill!”=–he’s perfectly pliable, just like an RNC Chairman should be.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:00 pmUh, doesn’t he know that that’s the only reason he was picked to head the RNC.
Uh, token Negro, perhaps?
May 19th, 2009 at 1:03 pmSteele has kept the focus mainly on him, doing his circus act, while the real powers that be continue to scurry around in the dark.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:04 pmTROHS:
I was out of the loop for several days over the last couple of weeks-vacation.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:08 pmObviously, there’s some catching up to do.
Should Steele resign, I’m not sure Rep. Mike Conaway’s reputation can take another hit. His staffer Jeff Burton came up with the Steele nomination idea.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:12 pmUncle Ho Says: Should we start a pool?
well… can we stock it with electric eel, stingray, pirhanna, and jellyfish? Waterboard the republic fascist hopefuls first to get their lungs all lubricated (it’s not torture — just a hazing prank, you know), and then throw them in. First to manage 4 laps wins.
Yeah, baby. You betcha. Also.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:12 pmOMG!
I’m listening to him now on MSNBC and he’s is just freakin crazy.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:19 pmThis just gets better and better. I don’t want Steele to go because he’s so entertaining! LOL
May 19th, 2009 at 1:22 pmIt’s a woe is me speech.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:22 pmHAHAHAHAHA….(deep breath)…HAHAHAHAHAHA….
…The Republic Fascist Party continues its long fall off that road runner cliff.
Fcuk the Republic Fascist Party
May 19th, 2009 at 1:24 pmOne of the best things that could happen to the Rebumblers . . . now if only Dick, Rush and Carl would leave, they’d have a chance to get out of their pit.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:24 pmAs the RNC shows Michael Steele that, Yes Sir Mr. Limbaugh Overlord Sir. The RNC is a Whites Only club of no new ideas striving for a better day in 1921.
Mr. Steele goes searching for acceptance and an expense account and finds it with Ron Paul and Bob Barr and together they split what remains of the Republican party. Alas, only to find that a rotten party split might be in more places but is half as strong and twice as fowl.
Look for the postmortem documentary on HBO
May 19th, 2009 at 1:25 pmHe’s blaming all chimpy mess on President Obama.
“Change will begin in a teabag and it’s a wonderful thing.”
PITIFUL.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:30 pmIt has probably been said but I think GOP really stands for
May 19th, 2009 at 1:33 pmGod! nO Progress
He is talking about more dirty tricks.
and LIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
They aren’t changing. he said words are useless, it’s the actions that matter. Ain’t that the truth with the teabagging repugs.
he said, “can delivery a victory” yeah like you did in NY.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:36 pmbut but but Mikey! You’re the gift that keeps on giving! Don’t quit on us now :)
At least he’d given the 2010 candidates some good ammo!
May 19th, 2009 at 1:40 pmThe Republic of Hymenoptera Stupidity Says:
He’s now Joe the Pole Dancer…
May 19th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Stop that! :-D
May 19th, 2009 at 1:49 pmMichael Steele: “The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is officially over.”
This one statement is going to haunt the Republicans for a long time!
May 19th, 2009 at 1:53 pmIt strange how comfortable he is around racist.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:56 pmMichael Steele: “The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is officially over.”
Sorry, I missed the part when it began.
May 19th, 2009 at 2:22 pmOh, Steele’s THREATENING to quit, is he? Guess he never got the memo spelling out how he serves at the pleasure of Republic-Fascist (formerly GOP) Party Boss Limbaugh and his cabal.
May 19th, 2009 at 2:33 pmFor God sakes . . don’t go ! You are the best thing that could have every happened to the Republican AND the Democratic parties ! Keep up the good work . . . we wouldn’t have such a clear benchmark for totally incompetent without you, dear Michael.
May 19th, 2009 at 2:53 pmMike, you are already the figure head… the moment they took away your petty cash drawer key, you became an empty suite!
May 19th, 2009 at 3:21 pm**empty suit
May 19th, 2009 at 3:22 pmGame of Life Says:
It strange how comfortable he is around racist.
================================
and that is exactly why he has lost everyone’s respect. He thinks that the signs at the tea parties were aimed only at president obama. He didn’t see it aimed at any black person period. he thinks he’s exempt from it.. he laughs when callers refer to obama as the magic negro… he’s an idiot. they can have him.
May 19th, 2009 at 3:25 pmDon’t quit Michael. The Demo… I mean the Republicans need you!
May 19th, 2009 at 3:49 pmI hate to say it but I think Steele is just starting to realize that he’s little more tha the GOP’s tokin black friend.
May 19th, 2009 at 3:53 pmNews flash, Mikey…you already ARE a “figurehead chairman.”
Er…ah, not the sharpest pencil in the box, are you…?
May 19th, 2009 at 4:53 pmSteele says, figurehead? No way…. I thought you guys wanted a DUNDERHEAD!!
May 19th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
