Perry refuses to apologize for his consultant’s remark that Hutchison is making the GOP into a ‘whorehouse.’

kayrick On Saturday, the Dallas Morning News published an article about the battle between Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry for the Republican spot in the Texas gubernatorial election. In the article, a political consultant to Perry said that Hutchison is making the GOP into a “whorehouse“:

Hutchison supports embryonic stem cell research and abortion rights, though she backs restrictions on abortion such as a ban on federal funding for organizations that perform abortion and a ban on late-term procedures.

Perry political consultant Dave Carney said the Republican governor agrees the party should welcome new voters.

But that doesn’t mean you take your principles and throw them out the door and become a whorehouse and let anybody in who wants to come in, regardless,” Carney said.

A group of GOP women are now calling on Perry to apologize for Carney’s remark, saying that it is “disheartening when we see people resort to behavior aimed at belittling women.” Perry’s spokesperson simply replied to the Houston Chronicle that Carney “does not speak for the Governor.”

Perry political consultant Dave Carney said, “The Republican governor agrees the party should welcome new voters, as long as they agree on every issue with the 20% of people who remain in the Republican party.”

  2. P.D. says:

So women GOPers are offended about being belittled? HELLO! The Repug Party always belittles women. The old rich white dude network is still pissed off women have the right to vote.

  3. Zimzone says:

Perry, he’s your mouthpiece…man up & accept some responsibility.

Is Senator Hutchinson really the ‘best ‘lil one in Texas’?

Nah, that would be the Governor’s Mansion!

“But that doesn’t mean you take your principles and throw them out the door and become a whorehouse and let anybody in who wants to come in, regardless,” Carney said.

Uhhhh…wonder why the GOP tent is shrinking? Keep the ridiculous comments coming geniuses. Seems like people are trying to get away rather than come into your little tent.

  5. spencers mom says:

She may be a whorehouse but she’s the best little whorehouse in Texas.

  6. Mosaic says:

Texas needs a Democratic governor. You had Richards once, that’s good leadership for Texas.

  7. PatrioticLiberalChristianMantisReligiosa says:

This is a bit misleading. The consultant said he didn’t want THE REPUBLICAN PARTY to be a whorehouse.

Of course, the only response to that is – too late. Your party already screwed the American public and got paid for it.

Texas is still worrying about governors? I thought they’d be holding presidential primaries for their new country.

    ConservativeForProgress Says:

This above story is highly misleading. Neither the governor nor his consultant called Sen. Hutchison a “whorehouse.” Rather, he said that you shouldn’t make the party a whorehouse by letting in anyone who wants in. Can’t we have an honest debate?

History shows us that you can’t. But if you’re unhappy with the content at TP feel free to leave.

  13. shoeless says:

So, when Kay Bailey Hutchison was in Congress prostituting herself to Big Oil, her fellow Republicans thought she was the cat’s meow. Now that she has come out in favor of life saving medical technology, they immediately turn on her and call her a whorehouse.

I’m not going to miss the GOP at all, when they finally fade away into oblivion.

    More GOP infighting.
    Popcorn time again.

  17. PatrioticLiberalChristianMantisReligiosa says:

CFP, there you go. TP fixed the headline to be more accurate. Now, about those misleading whole stories on FOX… Never mind, they aren’t interested in fair, balanced, or truth.

You’re right. He didn’t call her a whorehouse. He called her a whore. That’s so much better.

  19. misscoleopteramolly says:

I think there are any number of metaphors that could be used to describe an entity where all are welcome, regardless of how unqualified or ill-fitting they might be (community colleges, Amway distributorships, Delta House, etc.). So why use “whorehouse”?

    Two reasons:

    1. The word is loaded enough to get attention, and
    2. Using that term in ANY context about a woman will put that woman in a negative light.

This was a deliberate act on Carney’s part. Conflate Hutchison with prostitution without actually making that accusation.

Ironically, the term “whorehouse” isn’t really a good fit for a “letting everybody and everything in” concept. Because brothels are illegal everywhere in the country except Nevada, they’re actually kind of picky about who they let in — kind of like speakeasies during prohibition.

And Perry’s claim that Carney wasn’t speaking for him is pure BS. If his mouthpiece wasn’t speaking for him, who was he speaking for? Does he think Texans are that stupid? Oh, wait…

  20. RantingTommy says:

CFP can’t debate honestly or otherwise.

    Perry’s right, ya know…

It’s SOOOOOOO much better for the GOOP to become a complete three-ring circus w/ skin-heads, separatists, and “armed militias” in the cheap seats, and Michael Steele as the Ringmaster…

And now, presenting Rinkyding Bros. and Bunkum & Failing

    THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!!!!!

Oh goody!!! Here comes the Clown Car!!!!!!!

  22. Purple State says:

Misleading? Perhaps. I do take debate at the wording.

However, Carney made this metaphor to grab attention with a bad image. Whether he’s associating the “whorehouse” image to Hutchinson or not, the point is that Carney is associating the “whorehouse” mentality at every party other than the GOP.

This has turned into an indirect jab at the Democratic Party. If you bring up the metaphor, you need to live with the imagery.

  24. Roket says:

The reason Dave Carney does not speak for the Governor is because he is a political consultant. He represents the brains, not the mouth.

Though, to be fair, that does make the term’s use as a metaphor for the Republican Party much more appropriate.

Republiscum have always “defended” and “protected” the little ladies – patted them on the heads and said just don’t worry, go cook dinner, iron my shirt and wait for me in bed.
Under the transparent guise of their so called “respect” for women, they actually work tirelessly to keep women down at home and in the workplace.

Perry is counting on Texas secession from the Union,so he can start his own dictatorship in Texas.

  36. LibertyLover says:

Heh. Perry Does NOT want to tick off the women who vote in Texas. He should remember Clayton Williams and Ann Richards (RIP) in the 90’s. It was not pretty. When Texas women get their back up, then all hell’s gonna break loose.

Thanks, Conservative for Progress. We are not capable of reading the story and understanding that. We are like “ditto heads” that way.

    2. TP does not bill itself as a news organization. We know that coming in without even your help.

Perry, Dewhurst see pet projects trimmed by Republican budget negotiators

AUSTIN – Lawmakers are whacking many of Gov. Rick Perry’s priorities in the budget. And they haven’t quite turned cartwheels for Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, either.

In a two-year spending blueprint that House and Senate budget negotiators are close to finishing, many Perry priorities such as the deal-closing Texas Enterprise Fund and a border security effort with South Texas sheriffs are being cut.

The Republican governor’s casualty list is long. A Dallas Morning News accounting shows he’s getting only about $690 million of the $1.73 billion he requested for nine key items.

What a blowhard, fake secessionist, weaselly POS.

(As if you didn’t already know that.)

  41. blood1 says:

As I happen to vote in Texas, the GOP race for governor seems to have begun. I suppose all the “good ol boys” may chuckle at this little piece of “tx humor”, but they are in the minority. If Perry had a brain, he would…oh nevermind, he’s too busy trying to backstep out of the cowpie of secession to worry about KBH.

Anyone notice that she has been very low profile in DC for most of this year…and she’s not talking to Cornyn, which makes her more worthy that Perry on any day.

  42. Jacks says:

Misogynistic slurs to attack a woman opponent? And a member of your own party, too. Any minute now they’ll say Obama is out of his “cotton-picking” mind.

Seriously, though, we need to take a strong stand against all forms of bigotry, including misogyny. Randi Rhodes went after Hillary Clinton and Gerri Ferraro using the same damn slur and I don’t believe much of the so-called left condemned her use of bigotry.

  43. dasm says:

Hopefully, women will remember this– that Perry doesn’t give a S**t about you.
