Evan Bayh votes against a national renewable electricity standard that even Republicans supported.

This morning, Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) “was the only Democrat to oppose a renewable-energy requirement” that even some Republicans supported. The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee “voted down an amendment offered by Republican Senator Jeff Sessions that would have removed the renewable electricity standard from the energy package the panel is currently debating” by a vote of 9 to 13. Even though the Energy Information Administration has found that a much stronger standard would only affect electricity prices in Indiana by 6 percent in 2026, Bayh argued Indiana would be hit hard:

Bayh said Indiana would be among the states that would bear a disproportionate share of the cost of meeting the requirement. He said a fairer system would be offering tax credits for producing power from renewable sources.

The standard of 15 percent renewable energy or efficiency gains by 2021 is significantly weaker than President Obama’s preferred standard of 25 percent by 2025. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) joined 11 Democrats in support of the standard, and Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) did not vote.

  5. The Dogfather says:

Jeebus — the way Bayh votes, you’d think he was from some conservative midwestern state or something…

    Oh, wait…

  6. MadasHelinVA says:

Bayh argued that Indiana would be hit hard – for what 6% in 2026 with cola’s and rise in salaries commensurate with the times? Bayh “was also the only Democrat to oppose a renewable-energy requirement” – so why doesn’t he just join the GnoPers since he always appears to agree with them? It’s always about money for him – the money that he WON’T have in his pockets from his lobbyist friends. These blue dogs need to go!

Of Bayh’s top 20 donors, two registered to lobby on this bill. They include:

    Peabody Energy–$38,000 in PAC donations
    US Steel–$33,000 in donations

Number 1 on Evan’s list is Goldman Sachs. The Carlyle Group is #15 and AIG #19

i’ll say it again….the reason this country is in the crapper isn’t JUST because of Repuglicans.

    wake the eff up!!!!

  10. J. Fred Smug says:

Evan Bayh is certainly transparent — transparently easy to pay off, that is.

  11. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Bayh and Nelson need to quit the Democratic Party and become the Republicans they really are. Then they will be defeated in their next election and we can have real Democrats in their place.

I can’t believe that President Obama ever considered Bayh for the VP slot.

Well this man is one of the new blue dog Democrats. As someone else wrote, I too wonder about who his biggest contributors are.

Bayhs biggest supporter Goldman Sachs $123,750

All this is well and official. But how today’s oil prices are really determined is done by a process so opaque only a handful of major oil trading banks such as Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley have any idea who is buying and who selling oil futures or derivative contracts that set physical oil prices in this strange new world of “paper oil.” -Engdahl

So Bayh says he is concerned about costs to Indiana but, it seems to me, has no problem with oil [non-renewable energy] speculators driving up costs for everyone.

  18. Xisithrus says:

And not surprising Peabody energy is one of the worlds largest coal trading companies

    Curious, isn’t it?

Indeed. Evan ‘non-renewable’ Bayh and whats more curious is that Indiana grows alot of corn.

  21. stateofthedivision says:

Xisithrus, funny I just finished a piece on gas prices. Your Goldman Sachs observation adds much to “the factors” determining oil/gasoline prices.

Boy, that brings back memories of John Prine, ‘Mr. Peabody’s Coal Train? Great song.

Remember this line from another of his tunes?…
    ‘Throw out your TV
    Eat a lot of peaches
    Try & find Jesus
    On your own’

  23. kwsventures says:

Evan represents the interests of Indiana as he is supposed to.

  24. COProgressive says:

Bayh is the worst kind of politican. He goes which ever way the wind blo….. his owners tell him to go. He is plastic to the extreme. He was wetting his pants hoping Hillary Clinton would select him for her running mate. What a loser the guys is. Can’t stand to see him on TV. Way too boring.

  25. CB_Brooklyn says:

The reality of free energy goes mainstream. On April 19, 2009 CBS’ 60 Minutes broadcasted a segment on Cold Fusion. Not only do they speak optimistically, they also state the Pentagon verified the free energy claims! The MUST SEE CBS video and article are linked below:

Why was this technology suppressed for 20 years? Why does Obama still suppress the technology? See here for answers:

  26. eyesopen says:

If you want to know whose pocket a Blue Dog is in, just watch their votes. Every vote is like a report on campaign donations with these guys.

I’m not even sure that they’re casting the votes themselves. There may be a part of the Senate gallery where lobbyists go to operate the Blue Dog merionettes that they buy.
