Porter Goss refuses to say that CIA told him and Pelosi about waterboarding in 2002 briefing.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently said the CIA had “misled” her about enhanced interrogations during a 2002 briefing, never telling her that waterboarding had already been used. Former Rep. Porter Goss — the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee at the time and who sat in the same briefing as Pelosi — defended the CIA in a Washington Post op-ed recently. However, his spokesman refused to confirm to Greg Sargent that the CIA had, in fact, told them about waterboarding in the 2002 briefing:
I asked a spokesperson for Goss if he would confirm that he and Pelosi had been informed of the use of torture. Goss was out of town, so it took her a while to get back to me, but now she has: She declined to answer the question, saying that Goss would not elaborate beyond what he said in a Washington Post Op ed last month. [...]
So I asked Goss’ spokesperson directly: Were he and Pelosi informed that EITs, including waterboarding, had already been used, and were they given a rough sense that Abu Zubaydah had been waterboarded more than 83 times the previous month?
Her answer: “He believes that his Op-ed makes it very clear and is not engaging beyond it at this time.” She declined repeated requests to elaborate.
Sargent points out that Goss’ “carefully-worded” op-ed never actually said that the CIA had informed Congress that waterboarding was being used, but only that Congress should have “understood” what “enhanced interrogation techniques” entailed. CIA Director Leon Panetta himself never confirmed the CIA’s record of the briefing, saying only that it is ultimately up to Congress “to evaluate all the evidence and reach its own conclusions about what happened.”

This is like giving a carefully spun testimony on the witness stand without allowing any cross-examination.
And THIS is the “evidence” the wingnuts are using to “prove” Pelosi lied???
My observations:
1. If Goss is going to open his mouth, he should be willing to answer all questions about what he said.
2. If Pelosi (or anybody else at that meeting) didn’t understand the exact details of EITs, she should have asked and demanded clear answers. What, exactly, are these “techniques”? Is waterboarding one of them? Describe, exactly, how this technique is carried out? Have any detainees already been waterboarded? How many times? What information did we get from this interrogation, and how useful was it?
3. I assume a record was kept of this meeting and naturally, it’s classified. Since enough details of this meeting have already been leaked, it would seem prudent to release this report and find out who’s lying and who’s weaseling.

When investigating criminal activity you don’t start with the neighbor who may have known something was up but didn’t call thecops. What ticks me off more is how they covered their paper trail pretty much in plain sight. Lost e-mails, Whitehouse visitation lists, destroyed CIA tapes, and more has been exposed. These are the things we know about…I can ill imagine what remains uncovered.
We all know W was a simpleton stooge…Cheney was in charge. Darth Cheney can be accused of many things but, except in a political sense, he’s very smart (and ruthless). It’s obvious BushCo attempted to cover it’s a$$ every step of the way. Looks like everything they did went through teams of lawyers and judges advising ways to skirt any legal interference with their plans.
I think Pelosi was set-up and played like a fiddle. They made sure she was “involved” so they could use the exact defense they’re using now. Played note for note she was. Wonder how else she was played to keep impeachment off the table?

I give you some credit for recognizing that any comprehensive investigation would (and should) go beyond Pelosi. When Ralph says “I don’t hear the same level of indignation from you,” he means, “Please tell us why, if your position is ‘investigate them all’, you have already judged Pelosi guilty but everybody else gets a pass until an investigation finds them culpable?”

My question (and Ralph’s) was why you’ve already decided Pelosi is guilty but you have not made similar accusations against anybody else except to say “investigate them all”. Reversing the question and challenging me to justify attacking the Bush administration (which I didn’t do, except to say they should be included in such an investigation) and accusing me of defending Pelosi (which I didn’t do, except to suggest that we should wait for all the facts before shoving her neck in a noose) isn’t a valid response.

- Did the 1st MS from 99 to 01′ (while working full-time)
- Did the 2nd MS from 01′ to 03′ (back to back to back – all working full-time)
I rehabbing houses from 03′ to 05′ and did quite well (got out when the market was over-bought.) I retired from all that crap now and have been camping and helping with the local boy scouts. That’s been really fun.
Now, I want to give back by serving my country.

The 252-172 roll call Thursday by which the House rejected a measure to investigate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s assertion that the CIA misled her on the use of torture.
A “yes” vote is a vote against an investigation.
Voting yes were 250 Democrats and 2 Republicans.
