Steele on college: ‘I partied my behind off.’

RNC Chairman Michael Steele recently spoke to students at Woodson Senior High School in Washington, DC, for a C-SPAN segment called “Student and Leaders” that will air next Monday. He told them that during his first year of college, he “partied [his] behind off.”

STEELE: My first year at Johns Hopkins, I had a good time. I really did. I partied my behind off. I heard there were classes, and some people told me I really should go. But I was having a good time. … I just networked the heck out of that bad boy. I was getting there. I was talking, I was grooving, I was having a ball!

Watch it:

The anecdote was part of a story on “perseverance.” He told the students that his partying ways got him kicked out of school after freshman year, forcing him to take summer school while working full time in order to gain re-admission to Johns Hopkins. Watch the full story here.

    Haha!
This guy Steele is a trip!
Did he ever work in the private sector and if he did what exactly did he do?

I guess that explains a lot about your lack of brain cells.

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH…..the chess board master

i wonder what complex diabolical plan is set into motion from this new testimony

  10. Vasagi says:

And you too can be a D+/C- hardcore party animal and yet still reach great heights in republican politics!! If not a 2-term President, then at least the chairman of the RNC!

  12. Xisithrus says:

Sounds like he is trying to gain favor with Rush oxycontin Limbaugh and Glenn ‘Dr Jack Daniels’ Beck

  13. aljr1947 says:

Imagine that. And he continues to do nothing, It’s obvious that he didn’t spend a lot of time in class learning about the essence of critical thinking. Rather, he has learned critical talking from the Republicans. When he realizes that he has his job simply because of Mr. Obama he will be in for quite a revelation. What a poor misguided goof off.

  14. Druids Dream says:

Micheal Steele is here? WORST PARTY EVER?

  15. WaltB says:

Gee . . did he ever grow up?

  20. Shellly says:

As I have said before this guy tailors his argument to whomever is in the audience..

Black people – Rush is ugly & incendiary
    Woman – he’s pro-choice
White man – snickers when Obama is called the magic negro
MTP – yes there should be truth commissions
TW – Government creates work, not job
RNC – Gay marriage will put a strain on small business
RNC- Change will come in a tea bag
Students – He partied his butt off

Do parents really want this joker mentoring their children?

  21. Squeaky Wheels says:

    This guy’s an idiot.

First of all, nobody paries their “behind” off, you party you ASS off.

Second, if you’re in a position of responsibility, you minimize it by saying, “Oh yeah, I partied a fair amount”.

  22. chiroptera toasterhead says:

STEELE: My first year at Johns Hopkins, I had a good time. I really did. I partied my behind off.

    Shellly Says @ 20:

As I have said before this guy tailors his argument to whomever is in the audience..

We see this phenomenon here in New Orleans with Mayor Nagin – and beyond merely tailoring his content and rhetoric, Nagin actually changes his speech patterns and vernacular to suit the audience.

Perhaps Steele will have work for Nagin next May when we finally see the end of this error…

    Color me NOT surprised.

    ConservativeForProgress Says:

Um, didn’t Barack H. Obama also party a bit in his late teenage years? (and not just with booze).

Sure, but that wasn’t a central tenet of his commencement address, was it?

  28. Trittydi says:

You jerked your way through college – and you’re SO jealous of Obama’a success that your skin has a green tinge to it?

    Are you KIDDING me?????????????

  29. Megaloptera McWars says:

I’m baffled at the room some students make for themselves to party and the prevalence of the party-going scene in general when the college campus has unprecedented resources that should consume enough of a student’s time — libraries, advising, tutoring, professor/lecturer office hours. Then you have to make time to review notes, complete assignments, prepare for the next class, and take part in community service and other forms of student involvement.

Decompressing is necessary to keep your head above water, but even if you have all the money in the world to cover tuition, you are wasting a spot if all you intend to do with your college years is party.

  30. Druids Dream says:

“Wheels of Steele” is just trying to up his “street cred”.

  31. rightwing-leftwing says:

I thought Steele had “Empathy” on his behind? Now he has parties on his behind? Man, this guy must have a big behind to fit all these things on it. How does he walk and sit?

  32. Xisithrus says:

    Shorter Steele: I didnt inhale!

  33. Leftside Annie says:

Oh man…! Mike Steele has gone beyond entertaining – all the way out to *painfully* embarrassing!!

Good grief, Mikey, HAVE SOME DIGNITY, MAN!!!!!

  34. Megaloptera McWars says:

Serve for 18 years in the Air Force and get booted for being gay by the “law and order” cyborgs.

Drink your empathizing behind off, get a DUI or two, five deferments, keep your girlfriend’s abortion secret and take your pick: RNC chair, President and Vice President (courtesy of the Reagan/Daddy SCOTUS).

  35. flight says:

This guy is the best and brightest Blackman the RNC could find to fill one of their key slots. I find Steele’s appointment condescending to black people as well as to the country. There is a syndical overtone with his appointment. Steele represents all blacks in this country.

In contrast, the Democrats picked Obama.
Nothing condescending or syndical about this choice.

  36. Megaloptera McWars says:

CFP, President Obama took his college years very seriously and it got him into Harvard Law. I’m tired of the conservative whitewash one-and-the-same crap.

  37. dasm says:

Steele: “I partied my behind off.”

    Leaving just the a**hole.

  38. spencers mom says:

McWars, C4P is simply updating the old meme “but but but Clinton did it, too” with “but but but Obama did it, too”.

And once again the trolls have it wrong. By the time Obama entered college, he had put such things behind him and, as you stated, took college seriously enough to get into one of the nation’s top law schools where he became editor of the Law Review.

Has anyone seen Steele’s grades? Because it’s pretty damn hard to get thrown out of a private school, especially after just one’s freshman year.

    PEACE

  39. kwsventures says:

Obama was a drugged up college student, too. Clinton didn’t inhale. Okay, tell me something I don’t know.

  40. Megaloptera McWars says:

Hi spencers mom, thankfully Hopkins absorbed that blight, having on their history book a moron for student body president and his name on one of their prestigious degrees.

kwsventures, is that a snark? If not, I refer you to post #41.

  41. Keith says:

    kwsventures,
Since Obama got a masters from Columbia and was head of the Harvard Law Review, that is more than ample proof that he was NOT a drugged up college student.

Same for Bill Clinton: High School national honor society, photo meeting JFK, scholarship to Georgetown, Rhodes Scholar to Oxford, Yale phd in Constitutional Law.

Dubya could not even get into UT. He got into Yale because of his father and grandfather. McCain only got into Navy because of his father and grandfather. He finished 894th out of 899. Palin went to 5 (?) undergraduate schools and noone remembers her anywhere. Could have been “online”.

  42. flavorino says:

    ConservativeForProgress Says:

Um, didn’t Barack H. Obama also party a bit in his late teenage years? (and not just with booze).

Yeah, you’re right I’ve heard those stories, but it went on until HE WAS IN HIS 40’s! That’s some history covering a LOT of territory; binge drinking, cocaine, constant hangovers, inappropriate behavior, mediocre schoolwork, being repeatedly bailed out of failed businesses.
I believe he had one DUI that’s on record and several incidents that the police let slide. There’s stories about him driving off the road into hedges and what about that one about him drunkenly challenging his Dad to a fist fight!
I also heard his wife killed her former boyfriend by driving into his car at an intersection or something weird like that. That’s some crazy story, I never really understood it.
Oh wait…..I’m sorry that was the FORMER President G.W. Bush, not the current one…….my bad.

  45. flavorino says:

    ConservativeForProgress Says:

So, what is the point of this story?

    I don’t know. Let’s get existential.
What’s the point of you being here?
Ya got nothing better to do?

  46. Druids Dream says:

I think the point is Steele is a poser.

  47. RUCeriousMaggot! says:

Druid, poser and loser, all wrapped up in one attractive package. The gift that keeps on gaffeing!

  48. Druids Dream says:

He does have that losery, “I hung out at the party in the corner by myself” kinda vibe.

  49. laworder says:

Well, that sure explains a lot. But what about all the stupidity after the partying wore off?

  50. wiley says:

When you do drugs and graduate with honors, it can’t really be called “abuse”, can it?

  51. rightwing-leftwing says:

Steele needs a 12-step “program” to follow. I designed one for him. CfP, you can follow this too:

GOP-aholics Anonyms and The 12-steps to recovery:
    1. We admitted that we were powerless over LIES-that our lives had become unmanageable.
    2. Came to believe that a Democrat greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
    3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of a Democrat as we understood them.
    4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
    5. Admitted to a Democrat and to ourselves the exact nature of our wrongs.
    6. Were entirely ready to have A Democrat remove all of these defects of character.
    7. Humbly asked A Democrat to remove our shortcomings.
    8. Made a list of all the persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
    9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
    10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
    11. Sought through meditation to improve our conscious contact with A Democrat as we understood them, asking only for knowledge of their will for us and the power to carry that out.
    12. Having had a political awakening as a result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to GOP- aholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

  52. Intrepid says:

My farts are more intelligent than Steele.

  53. ranus69 says:

Steele sounds like this other Bush I know:

“During a 2002 appearance at Whitney High School in Cerritos, California, Neil Bush told the audience of assembled high schoolers that nobody actually wants to study calculus, declaring that they shouldn’t be “forced to study something a kid thinks is terribly useless and obscure.” Somehow this quote got reduced to “Neil Bush said calculus is useless.”

  54. pbeeg says:

I think the problem is that Steele thinks he’s got style, and that his style will carry him all the way. You know, that the only problem that the Republican Party has is that it’ doesn’t have enough Michael Steele in it, sugar.
I had a (white) friend in college who felt that, having been caught cheating on his girlfriend with her (much) younger sister, felt he could talk his way out of it–moreover, going into the confrontation without any clear idea of what he was going to say.
That’s what I see when I see Michael Steele.
Such massive cluelessness, I will confess, is almost endearing. And since he’s succeeding in kicking out the keel of the Republican yacht, I’m beginning to like him.
Tell the truth, Michael: You really do think you look like Billy Dee Williams when you smile, don’t you?

  55. Dirty Hippie says:

    Republicans do not “groove”.
