GOP lawmaker slams RNC video mocking Pelosi as ‘reprehensible.’

This past week, the Republican National Committee (RNC) released a web video comparing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to the James Bond villian Pussy Galore. Politico said that the video “implies that Pelosi has used her feminine wiles to dodge the truth about whether or not she was briefed by the CIA on the use of waterboarding in 2002.” Watch it:

Yesterday, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) sharply criticized the RNC’s video:

I thought it was reprehensible, irresponsible and unpersuasive. If we’re going to regain the credibility of the American people, we’re going to have to stop with silly antics like that. It may get a snide chuckle inside the Beltway, but it offends most people. We have to get away from the politics of personal destruction.

WOW! A Republican arguing against defamation of character! What will we see next? Compromise?

Maybe when the dinosaurs finally succumb, a new type Republican politician will emerge.

A more intelligent and viable opposition would be good for the country.

I say let them foam on.

Republicans haven’t boticed that they’ve been smearing Democrats nonstop for the last 30 years, and the result is more Democrats than ever.

If they want to keep losing voters this way, it’s OK with me.

I think it’s time for President Obama to start illegally wiretapping the right wing of this country. That will get them to shut up!

The real disappointing thing is that pelosi does suck – she led a total and complete capitulation of house dems to dur chimpfurher even after he became the most unpopular president in US history.

And now some want to defend her here, even when no one really knows if she was aware what “enhanced” interrogation” means.

She knew what she was doing when she continued to fund the Iraq war, destroy constitutional rights, and enact the policies that led to the financial meltdown.

She does not really deserve our support now.

  7. KayInMaine says:

In the American Taliban’s (aka the current republic party) world, Nancy Pelosi is a demon and Virginia Foxx is the feminine warrior who coddles all of us at her perky and beautiful breasts. See?

So, you’re saying Porter Goss, who also got the same briefing as her and who also echos Pelosi’s comment that neither one of them were told any technique (waterboarding included) was being used nor would be, is a liar and should be on the chopping block as well? Or do you think he’s legitimate and would never deceive a country on behalf of George Bush’s CIA and that the CIA is always just, pure, and good over any of us?

You give it it;s shots and throw it a bone from time to time. You don’t give it a frickin’ parade everyday on FOX news.

It’s a shame they didn’t have this high regard for the CIA back in August 2001, they might have read that report that said that Bin Laden wanted to strike the USA…

Yeah her statement about “taking impeachment off the table” is like giving the Bush gang a free pass.
With that bunch of devious and sometimes traitorous and criminal weasels it was a very dangerous thing for the country and our democracy.

So he’da been cool widdit if it had been persuasive?

And by the way, the politics of personal destruction are the only politics that are possible in a political environment that is so mediated as to be effectively “virtual.” Saul Alinsky got that, 40 years ago. It’s the ONLY way to prevail in vicarious politics, which is what our GOP/Dim kabuki has become…

  15. Another Joe says:

KayInMaine – I am just saying that if you are proclaiming that pelosi somehow has all of this credibility, you haven’t been paying attention.

I don’t know what happened and neither does anyone else that posts here.

But her record is clear – she sold us out.

  16. Another Joe says:

flavorino – forgot that one – the dems ran on a platform of accountability, won big with it, and then gave the entire band of thieves a “get out of jail free” card.

Get a grip folks – pelosi deserves to be run out of congress.

  17. blistex11 says:

I think I just heard a very loud “backfire”.

  18. blistex11 says:

Another Joe: If Pelosi is so culpable (and she does not set policy), then wouldn’t those who set the policy even be more culpable?

Also, which Republicans were also “informed” about what was going on? Surely, this intel committee was not wholly consisting of Democrats, was it?

Where are these “also complicit” Republicans on the Intel committee? We KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt precisely where they are – hiding in the bushes right now because their party has placed them in a very public CATCH-22.

If they spin the lie that they were all briefed about waterboarding, they lose and become as complicit as the reichwingnuts are making Pelosi.

If they admit that the CIA didn’t inform them, bingo! They’re toast and grouped with all of the Pelosi detractors.

These Republicans who sit on the Intel committee are “cooked”.

  19. blistex11 says:

Besides, Pelosi is not on trial here with the american public – Bush, Cheney and the “complicit Republicans” are definitely on trial right now. And the public outcry for prosecution is getting louder with each passing day and each piece of criminal evidence.

Just yesterday, we learned how Cheney interferred with the IG and his report about the torture AND HOMICIDE of several prisoners.

THIS is not going to play well with the mainstream media next week. Now let’s make sure that this IG report gets nationwide coverage…..

  21. EnnuiDivine says:

Chaffetz has some class…and he need not worry about losing face.

The dude won a primary challenge by running to the incumbent’s right…in one of the most GOP leaning districts in the country.

  22. DoingNuance says:

Any Dem who opposes Pelosi doesn’t understand her at all, and doesn’t understand her roll. She is terrific! She is super smart and tough as nails. She does an excellent job of herding the congressional cats. She delivered her 100 day agenda in about 65 days, and has delivered on a lot more legislation since then. (The fact that the bills get filibustered to death in the Senate is not her fault.) IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that we Dems rally around her now, to deflect this stupid GOP assault. It’s just another right-wing diversionary tactic, to keep people from looking at the real issue.

  23. douglasg says:

    OMG! Waaa frikin waaa.

The dems do it to the rpugs, and the repugs do it to the dems.

  25. ralph the wonder locust says:

Anyone wanna bet that the RNC didn’t secure the rights to the images and music they used?

We shouldn’t allow the Republican Party to frame the issues that are important to America. Republicans lost the last two elections (2006 and 2008). It’s time to end the Republican nightmare.

    We elected Barack Obama to:

    a) Discontinue America’s occupation of Iraq and Afganistan
    b) Create a Universal Health Care System for America
    c) End the Bush/Republican recession.

  27. ralph the wonder locust says:

  29. Another Joe says:

blistex11 – “definitely on trial now?”

Must be some really good drugs down there – cheney is marching around the country and on the bobblehead circuit and the lying liars in the MSM tell us his approval ratings are going UP!

No one is being held accountable and the current administration is trying to block any attempt to hold anyone accountable.

Sorry buddy, you are picking the wrong horse on this one and your misstatements are just as damaging to progressive causes as those coming out of little dicky cheney.

You are giving them all a free pass (dems and repugs) by proclaiming there is going to be consequences when clearly there are none.

  30. nellre says:

This post is really about how juvenile some GOP’ers are, how they make personal attacks such as this shameful sexist video in a pitiful attempt to get some attention.
It’s not about Pelosi… she just happened to be the subject matter for this particular video.

Most of the GOP’s leadership seem to have the emotional IQ of a slug.

  31. RealityCheck says:

She can stonewall it all she wants…but sooner or later…she will answer for her lies!

  32. ralph the wonder locust says:

How did Pelosi “lie about the CIA”?

Are you suggesting that the CIA does not mislead Congress?

Or are you suggesting that the CIA’s record-keeping is beyond reproach?

Do you think that Speaker Pelosi is culpable for war crimes related to the Bush administration torture program?

    Please do elaborate.

  33. Leftside Annie says:

  36. WAYNEBRO says:

Well I’m not going to defend Pelosi. She’s as guilty as the rest of them. She tells us one thing then votes the opposite.

She’s the reason there’s been no real investigation into war crimes, and that’s most likely due to her knowledge and involvement in them. Her excuses are lame, and we wouldn’t tolerate this out of a republican so we shouldn’t tolerate it out of her.

She’s been the biggest obstacle to positive legislation next to the republicans, and she does nothing at the end of the day, but roll over. This week she helped pass a credit card rights bill that is guaranteed to do nothing to help the American people, and in exchange for it she allowed a rider permitting handguns in our National Parks.

With “democrats” like Pelosi and Reid, what do we need republicans for? She’s in league with them and it’s time people start to realize that before she wins another term and helps drive this country further into the ground.

  37. WAYNEBRO says:

But I also agree it’s nonsense that the GOP is targeting her for “knowing about their crimes”.

    It’s nonsense.

  38. Brain From Planet Arous says:

Then you have to distance the party from Newt Gingrich, because the politics of personal destruction that he championed is what won the Republicans control of the House in 1994. So now they think that’s the only way to win.

  40. republicanSScareme says:

They’re trying to crucify her for telling an ugly truth: The CIA has always lied to Congress and everyone in Congress knows it.

The public knows it…if they don’t. Maybe they haven’t read any of the 5000 books about CIA shinnanagens. Congress takes the lies because they don’t want to accept responsibility (or have the guts) for over-seeing a scary spy agency.

Besides, telling Congress something can be akin to telling Fox News. Isn’t Washington the only city in the country where “plumbers” means something else? Most leaks are slow but in Washington they come out like fire-hoses.

If the CIA had told Congress about all the BS it had pulled throughout its history, Congress would have had to do something about it. If they’re not officially told, they can remain uninformed and not responsible. In other words, irresponsible.

We’re also not stupid enough to not think that the whole lot of them don’t learn these things at private cocktail parties and BBQs.

But I am shocked to learn that gambling is going on in here!

  41. andy42302 says:

Another Joe, I enjoy seeing constructive debate on any blog. Unfortunately, there’s an aura of diatribe in your writings that seem to drown out dialog. I too was disappointed in the lack of aggressiveness Pelosi took toward Bush. But had you been watching non-Fox news or perhaps read non-New York Post newspapers, perhaps you’d realize that strategically, it wasn’t advantageous to go after Bush & Co. at that time. 1) Voters had shown that they weren’t thrilled over the Clinton/Lewinski ordeal. 2) There was a lot of work to do other than being distracted with going after Bush. 3) The GOP were already hanging themselves with daily sexual and bathroom escapades and their own ruin of their culture of corruption. 4) The legal proceeding would have outlasted Bush’s term anyway.

Backbone hasn’t exactly been the long suit of either party. Had backbone and logic prevailed, we wouldn’t be in Iraq today. The abject failures of the occupation would be nowhere what we’ve seen. The War On Terror was built on its very name, terror or fear. If our public officials dared question the rationale, they supported terrorist and applauded 9/11. Any opposition indicated not supporting our troops. The Bush/Cheney/Rove propaganda machine actually had people believing that Saddam was linked to 9/11 and that as long as we supplied young men to satisfy their blood lust in Iraq, that would somehow prevent terrorist from fighting us here. You see, maybe Nancy knew in 02 or 03 (the time when people most supported the war on fear) and maybe she didn’t. But at that time, Bush Co was scaring the hell out of voters with the concept of either being with him or against him, least have terrorist in our taxi cabs and hiding under our children’s beds. Pretty slippery slope wasn’t it?

Okay, maybe Pelosi fumbled her press conference, completely blew it, lied if you like. That’s not illegal and in reality, a non sequitur argument.

The very clip only promotes the GOP as being desperate. The last thing Democrats need is their own internal spats over irrelevant issues. Every win the Dems get causes more chaos for the GOP. I use to be undecided about Obama’s health plan but I’m leaning more towards it now. If that were to pass, the GOP would likely self-destruct.

  42. Wannabekool says:
