Liz Cheney doesn’t rule out run for office, but says she doesn’t plan to ‘right now.’

On Friday, Washington Whispers’ Paul Bedard reported that some conservatives want Liz Cheney to run for office, believing that “she’s a chip off the block!” ThinkProgress noted yesterday that Republican political guru Karl Rove has said that “she might” run at some point. Asked about the rampant speculation on Fox News today, Cheney didn’t rule out an eventual run for office, simply saying, “it’s not something I’m focused on right now.” Watch it:

After the interview ended, hosts Trace Gallagher and Martha MacCallum said it sounded like Cheney was open to running. “But I think that was ‘I’ll consider it,’” said Gallagher. “I would say it’s not ruled out at all, said MacCallum.

I’m SO looking forward to it…

  2. NOLIESPLEASE says:

A dollar short and a day late honey!!!!!

I hear your very popular in the South….how’s your accent????

  3. Marie says:

Yes, she certainly is a chip off the old block.
    A specious distinction for sure.
And likely to become even more sophistic after her father is convicted of war crimes.

  4. NOLIESPLEASE says:

PS….Don’t think that the hatred for your dad won’t spill on to you.

ANYTHING WITH THE NAME CHANEY….RUN…RUN LIKE HELL!!!!!

  5. BillFromDover says:

I assume someone somewhere needs a new dog catcher?

  6. had enough says:

Wait until the last minute as it will give less time to expose your ignorant self.

The fact she is giving it time to decide tells me she will run.

  7. raynman says:

    Cannon fodder…

‘thinking’ Republicans are becoming more and more aware that unless something monumentally changes in the American voting public psyche, anyone with a Republican brand attached to their name comes to the voting booth already as damaged goods. So you trot out expendible candidates that you can afford to have their butts kicked in the election so that, ultimately, you have your ‘A’ team ready for when the electorate isn’t as anti-Republican….

  8. StratRat says:

The names Bush and Cheney are unelectable for at least 10 cycles. Any suggestion that Liz is running is simply to inflate her already massive ego and entitlement complex.

You will notice however that the Villagers love the idea of GOP ‘leaders’ being able to ‘appoint’ their kids and wives to office. They just love that monarchy stuff. They do not like the pedestrian masses electing representatives, we are just to empathetic and activist.

  9. Dakota Flint says:

Ah poor Liz, she needs more time to get that lip curl snarl perfected and to burrow out her very own special super secret undisclosed bunker den…just like her old fiend…ah…I mean father.

  10. Zimzone says:

    hmmmm, let’s see here…

-She doesn’t have any military service

    -She lies about others’ actions

    -She’s a Cancervative

    -Her name is Cheney

    -She’s a politician

-She supports the crap her Dad spews

    Yup. She’s qualified…

  11. barfly says:

She’s waiting to see if her father is indicted for war crimes, by the international court. Her candidacy would be a trainwreck if she announced, and then he was indicted.

  12. Chris LeJeune says:

Please run! Please! Run in a fairly red area too, where the dem candidate is not favored. Anything you can do to help the democratic party!

  13. theswan says:

Unlike darthvader she creates a laugh a day.

  14. ElBruce says:

I find it odd that they start with the person and then figure out what they should run for, rather than starting with the position and thinking about the best person for it. Carpetbagger much?

  15. barfly says:

Run in Texas. The state that loves southern-fried nepotism…

  16. MCMetal says:

We know , hon ……….You’re focused on spewing mindless drivel in an on-going attempt to save Bush’s and your dad’s sorry , non-existent “legacy” , along with trying to keep them (and possibly yourself) , out of jail ; it’s not going to work ………….

  17. spring heeled jack says:

Yeah, she doesn’t have the time to run–5 kids and a book to write–who’s minding the kids when Mommy is on Fox every hour lying for Pop Pop?

  18. Above the Clouds says:

She will run if everyone “promises” not to ask any questions about her defense and support of her dad’s torture policies.

  19. angels81 says:

I hope she runs for warden of a supermax prison, that way she may be able to see her dad everyday.

  20. Zimzone says:

    Liz,
Considering your last name has become a sexual verb, do your REALLY want to go down this road?…just ask’in

  21. Daddy-O says:

    Run, Liz, run!

There’s a peculiar thing about elections these days, that separates this moment in history from most others in our nation’s past: Democrats can’t lose. And the Republicans know it.

If Liz decided to run, the Democrats would throw everything at her that they could. In an ORDINARY year, this would mean making a decision about what and how much precious resources to expend in a questionable race, and constant reference to polls when making said reality-based decisions.

But THIS year, the Democrats have the power, the incumbencies, the MONEY, etc. Going all in and trying to defeat Liz Cheney would be a merry undertaking instead of a serious decision to make.

Please, run, Liz! Popcorn manufacturers agree! And seeing your name go down in utter and dismal defeat, like Norm Coleman’s and dozens of other Republicans’ names is something to truly savor.

  22. Daddy-O says:

I think somebody with the bad luck to be named Richard Nixon has a better chance at getting elected than this idiot.

    ha ha

  24. delafield says:

If Cheney runs for office in Texas, Utah, South Carolina, or Florida, she would have a good chance of winning. But then again, if one of Timothy McVeigh’s relatives were to run for office in those same States, they would probably have a good chance of winning, too.

  25. Above the Clouds says:

Daddy-O – You’re on to something there. I think Gingrich’s mantra will be: “I’m not as bad as Nixon and smarter than Palin.”

  26. MapleStreet says:

What is it with the repubs and their dynasty – building inherritance ?

Do they subscribe to the idea that the rulers have special blood flowing through their veins ? Some sort of divine right of kings ?

  27. had enough says:

The GNOP not only have no plan to fix the mess all witnessed was created by Bush and their party, but obstruct all viable plans. Not only do they obstruct, but continue to lie, name call and smear president Obama.
Are the goppers that stupid to think a blond, a palin, Joe the Plumber, a proven numerous time sleazy adulterer such as newt will win the people’s heart.

Give it up GNOP and good bye.

  28. SharksBreath says:

I thought the snotty nose kid was a little loopy.

    I stand corrected.

She’s out of her funking mind

  29. Ape-Man says:

Until the Republicans accept that everyone should be treated equal under the law, they cannot be taken seriously as a political party in America.

  30. One Thousand Billion says:

Ah, the Cheneys… a political legacy to rival the Kennedys.

  33. drunkfoulmouthfiltybeast says:

She will have to hack into the voting machine to steal my vote. That’s their usual modus operandi.

  34. Trittydi says:

Dose the “chip off the old block” have her own private torture dungeon at home?

  35. moondancer says:

What will she run for? She-Wolf of Gitmo?

  36. Badger1 says:

I think she is doing what Carrie Prejean was doing; auditioning for an acting role/pundit/news-reader at Fox News Corp.
She’s blonde, dishonest, dilusional, and speaks with conviction about those things she is proven to be lying about, I’d say she fits the bill!
Plus, she can say what daddy would say if he wasn’t a complete coward and went on some tough venues.(Olbermann,Maddow,Goodman,Flanders,Ueger,Moyers, etc…)
Besides, what Political office comes with an “undisclosed bunker” she can relax away her term!?

  37. ElBruce says:

    delafield Says:

If Cheney runs for office in Texas, Utah, South Carolina, or Florida, she would have a good chance of winning.

It would still have to be a carefully selected “safe” Congressional district. And I don’t know if she’s anywhere near the head of the GOP line for those plum jobs.

She’s not going to run for anything, because she has never shown any intention whatsoever of serving the American public. She just wants a platform to spout off about how great Daddy is, how everything he did was perfect, and how all those mean liberals should leave him alone. An elected position doesn’t help in that regard.

  38. RUCeriousMaggot! says:

Run as far as you can Ms. Cheney. The name recognition will get you the first 11% of the electorate. Can you tell the difference between famous and infamous?

  39. po says:

Here’s a thought . . . who cares what Liz Cheney might do or what she might think!?!?!? Anyone . . . thought so

  40. Wiz says:

Isn’t it inspiring when a daughter can selflessly speak up for her father. What? She did it to further her own career, oh wait, if you Republican hypocrisy is a virtue. So my guess is she is shopping around for a congressional district to run in.

  41. Bozo The Neoclown says:

interestingly enough, if you notice down in the far left corner of the screen there’s always a fixed news logo. a little advice, direct from me to you, liz,
no one gives a rat’s ass what you have to say just please go away.
    thank you

  42. Rascalcat says:

She’s hoping, with all her might, that there is another Republican Adm in her lifetime. Her pitch will be “trained from birth”, the position…”Torture General”.

  43. Rascalcat says:

“The first, openly gay, female, GOP candidate to run for President!

    The year is 3012.

  44. ElBruce says:

It’s another sign of just how desperate and fcuked up the GOP is right now that somebody who is merely banging the drum for her father, himself one of the most reviled individuals on the planet, is talked up by them as a potential party leader. What, Slobodan Milosevic’s kid wasn’t available?

  45. LizCoro says:

I don’t agree with this woman, but she’s only coming to the defense of her father in the hope that he’s not indicted for war crimes by an international tribune (ya never know) . .

Wonder what this woman thinks of Palin ‘the intellectual’?

  46. annagranfors says:

I hereby vow, whenever I see the words “Liz Cheney”, that I’ll pass along my mother/daughter Cheney YouTube, where they are asked what the proper pronunciation of “Cheney” is, have completely different (ChAYney v. ChEEney) pronunciations, and have different, detailed stories about why it’s pronounced that way. That’s still “Weirdest Thing Of The Year” for me, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the phrases “Skull And Bones” or “Opus Dei” are somewhere in the explanation.

  47. DNFP says:

Does she inherit the man-sized safe or will she demand a new “woman-sized” unit?

  48. researcher says:

i hope she runs and wins.

with 8 years of her in office americans may wake up to the reality t hey are imperialists.

tell an american we need another war for profits to protect his or her freedom and they get out their checkbook.

tell them 47 million americans dont have health insurance and they say you are on your own jack.

that is the america I know.

ie christianity died on the cross.

jesus preached love and care for the sick and needy and americans preach with their actions not their words but their actions you are on your own jack.

with communism man exploits man with capitalism it is the other way around.

old souls and new souls on this planet and the repubs are newer souls. ie selfish and just down right mean.

  49. Cal Malenky says:

The Cheney brand is SO strong now, she’s gotta do it.

  50. osage says:

She would probably get elected easily in daddy’s home state of Montana. But I’d like to see her move to New York, Chicago or LA where there are more people than cattle.

  51. chascates says:

She has several problems here. With other qualified candidates like Sarah Palin & Michele Bachmann she’ll have competition for any race. And with her father’s high ratings as a statesman voters may not think she can measure up to him.

Ha! I’m drinking straight out of the bottle now! Run Liz! You’re perfect for the GOP!

  52. Marie says:

I think Fox will offer her a deal she can’t refuse – she’s blonde, she is a defender of all things Bush&Co — what more qualifications for a Fox commentator?

  53. LibertyLover says:

    No more dynasties!

  54. flavorino says:

I think she’s full of it.
She just doesn’t want to talk about the real reason for her and Daddy Deferment’s sudden media blitz…that would be
TRYING TO KEEP HER COWARDLY DADDY FROM BEING INVESTIGATED, PROSECUTED AND SENTENCED TO PRISON.
Doesn’t really want to talk about that.
Let’s pretend….just like we did with the WMD’s!

  55. ElBruce says:

    Check it out.

    osage Says:

She would probably get elected easily in daddy’s home state of Montana.

It thought it was Kansas? Wyoming? One of those where she can drive around a rural route for a couple of days and get enough votes to go to Congress.
