Mancow: Hannity Called Me After I Was Waterboarded And Said, ‘It’s Still Not Torture’

Last month, Fox News’s Sean Hannity claimed he would agree to be waterboarded “for charity…for the troops’s families.” Since then, multiple pundits have challenged Hannity to undergo the torture tactic, yet he has been unusually silent on the subject of waterboarding since.

Last week, right-wing radio host Erich “Mancow” Muller stepped up to the plate and had himself waterboarded to prove that it isn’t torture. Immediately afterwards, Mancow admitted that it was “absolutely torture” and was “way worse” than he expected.

Yesterday, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann interviewed Mancow about his experience under the bucket. “I would have said anything to make it stop,” Mancow said, further confirming that torture does not produce reliable intelligence. “I don’t think drowning is harsh enough. … This is worse. This isn’t gulping for air. This is your brain is shut off.” Mancow said that despite the “horrific” event, Hannity called him afterwards to insist that waterboarding still isn’t torture:

MANCOW: First of all, Sean Hannity called me and said, “It’s still not torture.” I said, “Sean” — he is a friend of mine — “it is torture.” All right. But, look, you are giving 10,000 dollars to the Veterans of Valor.org. So I think you are stand-up guy for doing that.

“I felt the effects for two days. I had chest pains. I told my wife — I have two little kids. We prayed. I said, dear God, help me. I had chest pains. I was so stressed out by this,” Mancow said. Watch it:

Time and again, those who have dared to undergo waterboarding have said it is torture. Mancow, who initially scoffed at the tactic, explained to Olbermann: “Look, I see the video…the sprinkling of the water, big deal. … I was laughing at it. I was willing to prove and ready to prove that this was a joke. And I was wrong.”

Mancow laughed at waterboarding until he tried it himself. Hannity’s fact-free claim that waterboarding is “not torture” might carry more weight if he displayed the courage of Mancow.

  1. The Republic of Hymenoptera Stupidity says:

‘It’s Still Not Torture’, said Sean as he dabbbed some fresh pancake on his already perfect makeup.

Meanwhile, a voice from another room shouted out, “Olbermann on line 5, for you, Mr. Hannity, AGAIN…”. Sean just giggled as he admired himself in the mirror and replied, “Tell him I’m not in, AGAIN…”.

  2. RantingTommy says:

Mancow is why Liz and dick have been absent from the airwaves lately.

Now that their claim that it isn’t torture has been proven false, he has admitted to authorizing and cheerleading for war crimes.

    Cheney has no defense now.

    Hannity? Courage? BWWAAAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA

  4. raynman says:

As time goes by, it becomes increasingly obvious that facts have very little to do in the right wing’s justifications for using torture. It’s all about FEAR FEAR FEAR and trying to maintain a hold on the psyche of America.

  5. Badmoodman says:

Mancow: Hannity Called Me After I Was Waterboarded And Said, ‘It’s Still Not Torture”

    – - Mancow cried “uncle” after 6 seconds of a controlled-waterboarding that was as safe as possible. So the obvious question is, if the US waterboarded the same detainee many dozens of times, and for longer than 6 seconds each time, within a one month period, just how tough are these detainees?

  6. spencers mom says:

So when is Hanniteabag going to play a little game of “water polo”?

There are very few people that I know of that I despise more than that lying bastard Hannity.

  9. tom says:

Little Seanie Vanity will never allow himself to be waterboarded. He doesn’t care for the idea . . . he would rather go on radio for three hours a day, repeat the same scurilous lies, whine, attack anyone who disagrees with him and parade around wrapped in the flag spouting his phoney patriotism and fake humility. In other words, he prefers to torture his listeners.

  10. margarine says:

I used to listen to Mancow on Rock 103.5 and later Q101. His political beliefs started to become more and more prevalent later in the show and I think that’s part of why he was dropped by Q101. They cited something like “different audience” or something. There aren’t tons of young people listening to alternative music that also want to listen to Republican weirdness.

That said, I’m glad he had some balls and did this. Not only did he do it, he admitted he was totally wrong about it and is willing to appear on national TV to say so. I might disagree with a lot of his viewpoints, but at least he is reachable and willing to stand up for those viewpoints and challenge them.

  11. Zimzone says:

Hannitea is a wuss to the Nth degree.

He’s a pretty boy who has about the same class & resume as the Bloated One. College dropout, sub-intelligent and scared of his own shadow. His message, like Rove & Rush, is to initiate FEAR.

    Ironic, eh?

I missed Jesse Ventura offering to waterboard Hannitea. That must have been priceless.

In fairness to Mancow, the Marine pouring water told him he’d go on the count of 5, but began at 2 or 3. That didn’t allow Mancow to take a deep breath and, perhaps, last for 30 seconds.

The media should join the fray on Hannitea. Show America that waterboarding isn’t torture, Sean.

    Are we not men?

  12. WaltB says:

FINALLY a conservative with morals and guts!!!! Now if all the other warmongering ones would just go over to Iraq and go on patrol with some GIs, we’d have some more truth tellers!

  13. WaltB says:

And, Zimzone, since when would an interrogator tell his subject he could take a deep breath?

  14. Wiz says:

So with Mancow thing the question of waterboard as torture is basicly over, and the right wing lost the arguement. The question of closing Gitmo is over, because General Patreus spokeup in favor of closing it. Two big losses for the right this week. They right has also lost the battle over the Supreme Court pick.

  15. amish_edison says:

Kudos to Mr. Muller for doing what multitudes of GOPers and conservatives will never do! …..and that is investigating the facts for himself and then coming to a conclusion based on his own investigation and thinking; rather than regurgitating what he is told or what he blindly believes sans fact.

  16. P.D. says:

Well, what did ManCow expect? Guys like Hannity still think the Earth is 6,000 years old and flat. They don’t believe in Global Warming and they swear Obama is a Fascist Socialist.(???)

  17. DRxJapanese Beetle says:

First off, let me say I am not a fan of ManCow, ever since his morning show fabricated “guests” in the mid 90’s, like the satanic worshiper who ate babies.
Then he went Libertarian, which basically meant anti-Democrat.
He still spouts on his show of a Muslim agenda by PRESIDENT Obama.

That being said, he does get my respect for putting up and not shutting up (Yeah, I’m talking to you InSannity!).
He went in to disprove water boarding as torture, and was prepared to debunk it. It was a controlled environment (although I give kudos to the Marine who said “Get ready on the count of 5. 1, 2…I LIED”) and ManCow couldn’t last even 10 seconds.
Let’s not forget, during that TORTUROUS 6 seconds, at least 2 of those seconds the water was not even being poured directly into his mouth.
His description of the pain was spot on.
Now, imagine this being done 168 times to ONE individual.
And what pertinent information of an immediate threat did we receive?
    WMD in Iraq?

  18. jaihind says:

Hannity is a wimp. He will not be able to do chicken dance also. hats off to keith for honouring his promise to donate to charity. In fact this was the best opportunity for Hannity to bankrupt Keith aka a liberal, but he missed on that. No words to describe Mancow’s heroism in debunking the myth of waterboarding is not torture. He is the real hero and as someone commented here earlier, looks like he has pushed darth and liz from the airwaves.

  19. Wayne says:

“I felt the effects for two days. I had chest pains. I told my wife — I have two little kids. We prayed. I said, dear God, help me. I had chest pains. I was so stressed out by this,” Mancow said.

    Hurt, didn’t it Mancow?
And that was only from 6 seconds of it, because they didn’t hold you down to keep you from coming off the board.
Anyone that went through SERE could have told you its no leisure bath.

  20. RantingTommy says:

Mancow ended the Liz n Dick show by destroying their “it’s not torture” defense.

That in itself is a heroic act.

    Mancow proves waterboarding IS torture
    Cheney bragged about waterboarding
    Cheney bragged about torture
    Torture is a war crime
    Cheney bragged about war crimes

  21. A Patriotic Anopheles Acting says:

Hannity is a Republican and we all know that Republicans DO NOT EVER admit to being wrong. Sean knows that if he were to agree to be waterboarded he wouldn’t even last six seconds before crying for his mommy and he doesn’t want FOX viewers to see him wet his pants on live tv. Poor scared little boy, his boastful mouth got ahead of him as usual but we aren’t going to let him off the hook so easy on this one.

  22. BrianFL says:

I love how right-wing regressives get caught up in debates about things science has decided long ago, like human evolution, or global climate change, or approximately how old the Earth is, or whether water-boarding is a form of torture.

When they finally come into reality with the rest of us, we praise them like little children who finally made their bed like the big kids.

Reich-wingers, ALWAYS on the wrong side of every issue.

That’s what happens when you are too intellectually lazy to examine what you’re told.

  24. BrianFL says:

An easy way to make pro-torture people look foolish on this issue is to ask them if our pilots captured by Saddam in the first Gulf War hated America. Also ask if the Vietnam vets being tortured in the Hanoi Hilton hated America. After all, these were men who were subjected to torture who then confessed to hating the United States. They called themselves and their fellow soldiers war criminals and “air pirates” after torture. Do you REALLY think they believed ANY of that? Of course not. They were just saying anything to make the torture stop, even if they had to make anti-American propaganda. That alone shows how meaningless torture “confessions” are.

  25. RantingTommy says:

Anyone think Mancow will use this lesson and learn to examine other issues deeply enough to realize that the right wingers he idolizes are perpetual liars?

  26. P.D. says:

Between ManCow and Jesse Ventura, the GOPers pretty much lost the argument. Don’t you find it odd after all Dick Chaney and his daughter tried to present their side of the story, ManCow and Ventura, the only ones who really know what they are talking about, slam the process and Dick and Liz are no longer in the spotlight?

  27. RantingTommy says:

The Dick and Liz show is over now that they can no longer claim he didn’t order torture.

  28. Exit Stage Left says:

    Not me.

  29. Zimzone says:

    WaltB Says:
And, Zimzone, since when would an interrogator tell his subject he could take a deep breath?

That was my point, Walt. Maybe I didn’t say that well. Mancow was SURE he could last 30 seconds, because he thought he could ‘cheat’.

The Marine made sure he didn’t get the chance.

And, as Wayne noted above, Mancow wasn’t restrained on the board.

  30. ElBruce says:

To those who say it’s not torture, we can just do it to them until they say it is torture. Therefore, no one can disagree. So if it’s “effective,” then it must also be torture. Anything you can do to someone that will make them say or do anything you want, is torture. It would only not be torture if it didn’t work, and if it didn’t work, then why were we doing it to detainees?

double your donations to your favorite charity!

And that’s not all! Every 5th waterboarding for you
means that we match it 2 dollars for every dollar that
    Keith O donates.

Step up to the plate, you chickenshit!

  32. Wayne says:

Funny though, when the govt and parents lie to their kids to scare them away from smoking pot and the kids figure out they were lied to about pot, most of them tend to think “hmm, maybe they lied to me about heroin and meth, too” – which makes lying to them about pot extremely dangerous.

But a right winger will accept being lied to over and over about a multitude of issues and never learn to question the source.

One caveat though, SHannITTY. If you soil your pants before
you are waterboarded, the deal is off! Fair enough?!

  35. pbeeg says:

It is revelaatory, though, that Hannity would call up a fellow conservative and tell him that his (Hannity’s) jusgment is superior to the person who had just gone through the actual experience.
To his face. Someone on the same side of the fence.
    That’s one seriously disturbed toon.

  37. RantingTommy says:

I think Hannity turned down Olbermann’s offer because Keith offered to pay the charity, and not give the money directly to Sean.

I know Sean has lots of cash, but he is one greedy little bastard.

  38. Purple State says:

The thing I immensely enjoyed on Countdown last night was the fact that Mancow did not detract from the subject. This was torture. This was worse than drowning. Had this been a pundit, they would have probably tried to spin the waterboarding they received and used the time to attack other principles, but Mancow was a stand-up guy and put the facts of his experience on the table.

Only he doesn’t get a safety cow. He gets restrained, so he doesn’t come off the board either.
He can try to say his chosen safety word, after the water stops pouring from the first round, heh.

  40. MarkD says:

This is your brain is shut off.

And that’s different than any other day for Mancow how, exactly … ?

I’m glad the guy did it, and glad he’s trying to convince Hannity that it is, in fact, torture. I don’t think it’ll work, but kudos to the guy for trying.

But Mancow is still a complete and utter tool who wants to be the conservative Howard Stern (but has failed) and just did this to get noticed.

Simply put, the credit he is getting for this stunt doesn’t erase his years of weapons-grade stupid. Kudos, but keep trying, pal.

  41. Daddy-O says:

    RantingTommy sed:

“But a right winger will accept being lied to over and over about a multitude of issues and never learn to question the source.”

This is a serious question. Obviously, Mancow HAS learned, and learned that he was wrong. He is the exception, or otherwise this wouldn’t even be a story.

I think it’s something different: These people have a genetic disposition or an over-learned response to never, ever, ever admit they were ever, ever wrong.

    That sounds more like it.

  42. Daddy-O says:

    Purple State sed:

“…Mancow was a stand-up guy and put the facts of his experience on the table.”

Absolutely. As a reality-based moderate liberal, I will give credit wherever credit is due.

Purple State, it’s very likely that you have never been waterboarded; I know I have never been waterboarded.

But Mancow has–and I accept his version of what happened. And I will never accept anyone’s version who HASN’T been waterboarded–such as Dick Cheney, Bush, Abu Gonzales, Rush, etc.

Every day I take a saline solution up the nose, four times a day. It’s great; it’s the cure for me, for my sinus problems I’ve dealt with all my life. Once in a while, though, I’ve forgotten to add the saline to the water, or the water wasn’t heated to 98 degrees, or something else was incorrect.

And when it goes up your nose, that sh*t is awful. I know that much.

  43. Buckie Boy says:

It is torture, Hannity is a scumbag, reichwing, propaganda spreading, chickenshit.

This one is different, though, because it has exposed him as the chicken-sh!t he is. As others have said here, he must not be let off the hook on this. I say everyone here should email him at hannity@foxnews.com and demand that he make good on his promise. Tell him he should agree to be waterboarded at every one of his “Freedom Concerts” this year. Ollie North will be there and he’s an expert at the technique. What a great opportunity!

Maybe he could even convince Limpballs, Wiener-Savage and that little p!issant, Levin, to join him.

And this is where people need to understand that pundits are not the say-all be-all when it comes to racism, gay rights, etc. Unless you have experience or direct contact with these matters, you should have no say on what is right. Only having one view of things is narrow-minded and a horrible way to prove one’s point.

I do stress the above statement, as sometimes we here can be very narrow-minded as well. We need as many sides to an argument as possible with factual evidence and experience, not just hearsay or proof through the last episode of “24″.

There are various ways to waterboard that are as different as apples and oranges. Those methods that result in water being poured directly into the breathing channel (i.e. down the nose or into the mouth) are generally viewed as torture. That is what was done to Mancow as you can clearly see in the video as water was poured up his nose and into his mouth which were left uncovered.

Those methods that follow Judge Bybee’s guidelines do not include pouring water directly into the breathing channel. Rather, a wet cloth covers both the nose and mouth in order to prevent water from pouring directly into the breathing channel. “The individual does not breathe any water into his lungs.” The Bybee approved method is thus very different than what was done to Mancow. Apples and oranges.

    25. BrianFL.

I agree. Just for info purposes–
    14th Amendment Section 3

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state Legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each house, remove such disability.”
Sen. John McCain was a prisoner inside the “Hanoi Hilton” during his time in Vietnam. He also admitted that he was “tortured” into saying terrible things about his Country, which would be considered giving “aid and comfort to the enemy.”
I don’t know if he had to get 2/3’s vote to be exonerated or not, because HE WAS TORTURED.
He didn’t mean to say those things, he was tortured.
If you “torture” an inmate or prisoner, the testimony given by said inmate or prisoner is inadmissible in a court of Law.
That is one of the biggest problems that the previous administration handed the Obama Administration. What to do with the 100’s of alleged terrorists who have been tortured in the last 7 years, but can’t be charged due to over-zealous interrogation techniques, but also are now too pissed-off at the U.S. of A. to allow them to go free!
Everybody that warned Bush/Cheney that this would happen was labeled anti-American back in the day, but as Rev. Wright put it “the chickens have come home to roost.”

The video of the waterboarding of Muller, however, shows that water was poured directly “down [his] nose”[22] and down his throat, which is not a method approved by the Judge Bybee memo on waterboarding, [...]“

Right, because -as we all know- torturers everywhere are rather meticulous at following the instructions as written by a judge thousands of miles away.

Not to mention that Muller didn’t breathe the water either -something that was lost on you and on whoever wrote that entry in the Wikipedia.

How about TP gets a fund raiser together for our troops family`s. I live in PA, I would think that they could get permits to have a waterboarding fundraiser. I honestly believe that WB is torture. Theres alot of wingnuts that disagree. So lets put it to the test. I will volunteer to be the first, i think i can last for 2 seconds. So will you wingnuts go after i go? I already said its torture but im willing to go through it to watch the non belivers do it and then tell us its not torture. Think of the money that could be raised for our troops family`s. These men and women sacrafice their lives for us. Surely you wingnuts can have some water poured on your face for charity. Once again, Seanie Vanity’s mouth has written a check that his wimpy little self can’t cash. No surprise there. He does that 50 times every day on his rant-fest.

Well I thought I would sweeten the offer in my own little way . . . by pledging to change my political party affiliation to Republican. I figure they need all the members they can get! Here’s what I sent Sean . .

    Dear Sean,

If you will consent to be waterboarded like ManCow, actually go through with it, then tell us whether you think it is or isn’t torture, I pledge to you that I will change my party affiliation to Republican from Democrat. I’m a life-long Democrat, by the way ;-)

    Sincerely,
