It would seem from that comment that you’re implying that I disagree with prosecutions. Of course, you know that isn’t true since you later copied my comment in which I said the photos should be used for prosecutions. The photos don’t have to be made public in order to be used in prosecutions. Why take the extra step to make them public and subject our military to “slightly more risk in the short term” if it’s unnecessary.

I was specifically pointing out that I believe your concern is misplaced. If do feel the need to we keep the photos private, it should not be about concern for our troops. That's a non-issue.

Besides, the photos are starting to surface on the internet anways. Therefore "publicizing" them from the White House would merely constitute acknowledgement of their authenticity, which I think would be a good idea.

We clearly agree that prosecutions are necessary in either case.

So those who are serving in our military now, and who would probably suffer if the photos were released, be damned. We can just tell them that the scum who authorized and carried out the torture are to blame. That'll make it more tolerable for our soldiers who are innocent to accept their own torture.

Here's something you don't understand about "the troops" - they're by and large decent people. I'm sure they'd want this information exposed and the perpetrators properly brought to justice. And if that means that they're subject to slightly more risk in the short term, then so be it. Their job is to accept personal risk in defense of the principles America is founded on. I trust them to do it, and I appreciate that they're willing to. So quit playing the coward on their behalf. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't thank you.

The photos can and should be used to punish the guilty. No one else needs to see the photos. And why would anyone want to see such a thing if they didn't need to?

I pretty much agreed with that point above - but not out of concern for the "troops" so much as concern for the victims. Forgot about those, didn't ya?

I didn’t think it was necessary to point out that our military consists mainly of good people. I assumed that was common knowledge. In your first comment, you say they’d want the perps brought to justice even if it increases risk to themselves. I realize that they volunteered for the job, but that doesn’t mean they want their lives to be put at risk just so everyone gets to see some gruesome photos.

As for your second comment, you copied my statement saying the photos should be used for prosecutions and wondering why anyone would want to see such photos if they didn’t need to. Then you said you agreed, but not out of concern for the troops. My statement didn’t concern the troops, but the need for prosecution. Then you suggested that I had forgotten the victims. If I had, I certainly wouldn’t see any need for prosecutions. Your comment is senseless.

Speaking only for myself, I find all the acts to be unspeakably vile and don't distinguish between them. Nor do I distinguish between the perpetrators and those who ordered the atrocities.

I find it interesting that so many posters are so outraged by the rape of men and boys (and we should all be outraged) - but the pictures posted in the link above show the gang rape of an Iraqi woman by what appears to be 4 - 5 soldiers including the photographer.

Has the rape of women become so "normal" that it can't illicit the same outrage?

This torture - was signed off on by Rummy with full knowledge of bush and darth "the dark side" cheney. They ordered it, they knew about it and they got off on the photos and videos. Shame on America!

Exactly (actually all 3 points were great, thx) - it's very likely that that Pentagon flack was talking about a very specific set of photos and comparing them to descriptions of other photos. "The pics I've seen didn't sound like that.
How did this great nation get the notion that we do not have to suffer the consequences of our actions? Every time I turn around, we seem to be covering up for or bailing out some creep that committed some crime. How about we start accepting responsibility for our actions and those done in our name? Yeah, OUR name. The American People. We have to accept the consequences if our combat troops go off the rails. You don't just get to pick out all the warm fuzzy nation building and discard the rape and torture. It's ALL ours. Every time someone with a little American flag on their sleeve does something, it is on our behalf. For good and for bad. The sooner we take a good hard look at what we allow to be done in the name of the richest, most powerful people on the planet, the better.

And, for Pete's sake, STOP trying to use what "they" did to us on 9/11 as justification for torture. It has not a damn thing to do with how we should be acting as the beacon of the free world. If we even have the gall to call ourselves that anymore.

Sorry if I'm repeating...

1. Rape has very little to do with Sex. It's about power, and, in these cases, torture.

2. The ARVIN used barbed wire up the butt to torture VC Prisoners - we probably used barbed also.

3. "None of the photos in question depict the images that are described in that article," - the Pentagaon's quote. IN QUESTION is important here. They don't say photos of these things don't exsist, just that these photos aren't them.

And now I need to go throw up. God help us!

I don't want to see the pictures, but I would like to hear some explanations for why these pictures were taken. Taking them as trophies is some serious pathological s*it.

Quick question for everyione. Given the black eye the abuses at Abu Ghraib and GITMO has caused the US and the fact that they have been used as a recruiting tool for extremeists in Iraq and Afghanistan, would you support the release of these photos, if they do exsist, knowing that they could rally more people to the extremist cause and potentially endange US troops further?

Yes.

The troops who raped 15-year-old Iraqi detainees should've thought about these consequences before they raped 15-year-old Iraqi detainees.

So those who are serving in our military now, and who would probably suffer if the photos were released, be damned. We can just tell them that the scum who authorized and carried out the torture are to blame. That'll make it more tolerable for our soldiers who are innocent to accept their own torture.
The photos can and should be used to punish the guilty. No one else needs to see the photos. And why would anyone want to see such a thing if they didn't need to?

Okay, so I'm enjoying my day off, when I come across this $hit.
I am completely disgusted by these accusations and pictures.
Didn't think I could be anymore disgusted.
Until obamawipe$ and CFP actually defends it.

Rape and sodomy is NOT defendible, you mucking forons!
And yet, here you are, making light of it.

NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

I am usually a pacifist, but today, as the anger enrages in my blood, I really wish I could meet you two, face to face.
I really do.
It wouldn't be pretty (for you) , and I'd probably be in jail.

Kids sodomized at Abu Ghraib, Pentagon has the videos - Hersh
by Gryn
Share this on Twitter - Kids sodomized at Abu Ghraib, Pentagon has the videos - Hersh Wed Jul 14, 2004 at 08:33:32 PM PDT
(From the diaries -- kos)
Seymour Hersh says the US government has videotapes of boys being sodomized at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
"The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told an ACLU convention last week. Hersh says there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher."

This is a summary of Hersh speaking at the ACLU 2004 America At A Crossroads conference according to EdCone.com (via Oliver Willis). I verified by watching the video myself (it starts at 1:07, the "worse stuff" part starts at 1:30).
There's more bad stuff in here, read Ed Cone's summary.

I'll try transcribing some of the more important bits.

[my transcription from 1:31 - 1:32]

Some of the worse that happened that you don't know about, ok. Videos, there are women there. Some of you may have read they were passing letters, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib which is 30 miles from Baghdad [...]
The women were passing messages saying "Please come and kill me, because of what's happened". Basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys/children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. The worst about all of them is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror it's going to come out.

It's impossible to say to yourself how do we get there? who are we? Who are these people that sent us there?

---
Absolutely. Let the world see that we believe in the values we endlessly preach to others about. City on a hill? After they are released the nation should than accept full responsibility and apologize and seek forgiveness upon the world stage. It is sort of the same advice we give our children when they screw up...

I did no such thing.

You stated, and I quote:
I don't think it was "exhilarating" for the 9/11 victims who fell 100 stories to their death.

I asked you for proof that you don't think this was an exhilarating experience for them. Not for proof that it was not an exhilarating experience for them.

I find it interesting that you made the mental leap to such a disgusting conclusion. But not surprising, since you were the one who suggested it in the first place.

You owe the victims of 9/11 and their families a very sincere apology, CFP.

Hoodathunktick Says:
They say jumping off a 100 story building is an exhilarating experience...for the first 99 1/2 stories.
It would appear that our little troll buddies are in that last 5 feet of free fall.

Hoodathunktick Says:
CFP and his ilk feel that they would be perfectly justified in burning down the neighbor's house, raping the neighbor's wife and daughter, spreading gas over the lawn and roasting the neighbor's dog on the BBQ if said dog crapped in their yard.

Hmmmm, no mention of 9/11 in either post. No reference to 9/11 in the thread.

You want disgust, CFP, it is in your constant attempt to misdirect everything so that the horror of 9/11 can justify your pitiful need to justify the horrors of rape and torture by the US under your psychotic buddies.
