Disgraced former Senate Republican aide calls on McConnell to filibuster Sotomayor.

manualRight-wing activist Manuel Mirdanda coordinated a letter that will be delivered to Senate Republicans today from “more than 145 conservatives” calling for a filibuster of the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Going further than the letter, Miranda told Politico that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) should “consider resigning” his leadership role if he can’t “take a harder line” on Sotomayor. In 2004, Miranda struck a slightly different tone, calling filibustering judicial nominees “unprecedented, unconstitutional.” As Greg Sargent notes, as an aide to then Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) in 2004, Miranda was caught “hacking into the computers of Senate [Democrats] and downloading thousands of documents relating to the strategies of [Democratic] Senators on judicial nominations.” Miranda resigned and now runs Third Branch Conference, “a coalition of conservatives focused on judges.”

    Third Branch Conference

    or,

    The Branch Mirandian’s.

That’s a much more fitting title IMO.

  2. Marie says:

This is the level to which they have sunk?
I remember this guy and anyone who takes his recommendations is a fool.
But then again, we are talking about republicans aren’t we.

  3. wiley says:

If I put my mind to it, I could get 145 people to sign a petition to kiss my a*s.

  4. misscoleopteramolly says:

145 conservatives? Isn’t that about all there are left?

  5. Badmoodman says:

Miranda was caught “hacking into the computers of Senate [Democrats]

    – - Merdad, Mirdanda….hmmm….

  6. ADDdaddy says:

    He resigned???
I Thought that Hacking into computers was a federal crime? Talk about going soft.

Dems are afraid of their own shadows. Pathetic.

  7. misscoleopteramolly says:

I say let them filibuster. Sotomayor is going to get confirmed anyway as soon as the filibuster runs out of gas, and a filibuster will just spotlight the Republicans as bigoted, sexist, and obstructionist. All qualities sure to help them in the 2010 elections — especially with the Hispanic and women’s vote.

  8. katy says:

… Miranda was caught “hacking [...] and downloading thousands of documents relating to the strategies of [Democratic] Senators on judicial nominations.” Miranda resigned

wait. he wasn’t ARRESTED, TRIED, CONVICTED and SENTENCED???

    WHAAAAA???

  9. Badmoodman says:

    - – Hey TP, you’ve got the man’s name spelled Mirdanda and Miranda in your post. C’mon, It’s Miranda. After all, the man does have some rights.

  10. paleolib says:

Gang, the Republicans controlled every molecule of the federal government in 2004 down to using political screens to fill career spots in justice. Who was going to prosecute him? If Monica Goodling and that crew didn’t go to jail this clown certainly wasn’t going up on charges.

“Do as I say, not as I do.”

Interesting tip from the letter: of the 121 people that call for the filibuster, 43 called for the relaxation of a filibuster on the Alito nomination:

Other prominent names on both the 2005 and 2009 letters included David A. Keene of the American Conservative Union, Gary L. Bauer of American Values, and Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform. In all, at least 43 names on the 2005 letter have also signed the letter calling for Republicans to filibuster Judge Sotomayor.

Also quite interesting: they’re not calling it a “Democratic filibuster” in so much as they are calling for a “traditional filibuster”.

  12. Dharma says:

Um, why is he relevant? Or why does he think he’s relevant?

  13. texasrick says:

Wow, where do these guys come from?

I know the Dem’s have their share of Wacko’s, but the Repubs seem to sink to new levels of character assassination, bigotry, and stupidity on a daily basis.

  14. galmud says:

As if we needed more proof of the incompetence of the Bush administration..

    From sourcewatch:

Currently Miranda serves as Director of the Office of Legislative Statecraft at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. [1] His job is to give instruction on democratic principles to Iraqi lawyers and lawmakers.

    RE: the headline

Isn’t using the words “disgraced” and “Republican” kind of redundant?

  16. linkwray says:

Carl Rove may have been banished from the White House but his power over the Conservative Dirty tricks is alive and well. His ideas are bankrupt and divisive just as he intend them to be. Like a good little Nazi he comforts himself and his zealots by wrapping a blanket of delusion and disinformation around his small group of devotees. Progressives should let him and then give the whole bunch a “blanket party” they’ll never forget. The mainstream media deserves one, too, for letting these thugs have equal time to spread their disinformation. It’s all so slimy and moldy just the people pushing this anti-american propaganda.

  17. kdgamergirl says:

I’ll say it again… they really are determined to destroy their party! So much for the female and Latino vote huh guys? :)

  18. RUCeriousMaggot! says:

Manny’s got one thing right “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) should “consider resigning”

They really need a leader with a chin that can take the blows they are self inflicting.

  19. Doc Rock says:

    Why isn’t Miranda in jail?

    Why isn’t Miranda in jail?

Maybe they forgot to read him his rights.

  21. ElBruce says:

This “Third Branch Conference” doesn’t seem to have any web presence whatsoever. Google gives me a lot of other people talking about them, but nothing of theirs. Hmm… maybe they’re scared of getting hacked. But in this day and age, if your group doesn’t have a website, it might as well just be a rumor.

    katy Says:

wait. he wasn’t ARRESTED, TRIED, CONVICTED and SENTENCED???

IOKIYAR. See Watergate for further details.

  22. hormiga brava chavez says:

McConnell should consider resigning his leadership role if he doesn’t listen to a criminal?! HAHA!

  23. Anonymouse says:

“caught “hacking into the computers of Senate [Democrats] and downloading thousands of documents”

Does this mean he was never charged? WTF?!!

  24. wiley says:

Maybe they have a secret meeting place, sign loyalty oaths, and drink puppy blood like Dick Cheney

  25. kasinca says:

They act like a bunch of juvenile delinquents in school. They refuse to do the work and contribute so they try to find ways to disrupt business and obstruct. The conservative wing of the wingnut party is demonstrating why they have lost the last two elections and will lose the next one as well. They are out of touch. They have nothing to contribute and they are failures at governance. They do not belong in government.

  26. wiley says:

Maybe thinking that government writ large is “the problem” and being a government official is a combination that has devolution and dissembling written all over it.

  27. COProgressive says:

These wingnuts never quit. They are like a bunch of nasty chuchuas nipping at your heels all the time. Their bark is worst than they’re bite.

They got nothing but their yapping bark and little nipping bites.

Anyone have some canvas bags and some rocks?

  28. Gregor Samsa says:

Conservatives following, willingly, the lead of a crook?

    I am shocked, shocked!, I tell ya…

Stone Cutters? Can someone please attach the stone of shame to this dude…

I just tried to find their site too. Came back saying “Under Construction”. Bet it never comes online.

  31. MapleStreet says:

If he hacked into the dems computers in 2004, why wasn’t he prosecuted under the numerous acts which define this as a matter of terrorism ?

    IOKIYAR ?

  32. eyeswideopen1 says:

Wow! 145 (disgruntled and sour grapes praticing) Conservatives. I guess those are ‘big’ numbers for those clowns these days!

  33. doktorgizemli says:

Hey Kevin. I just saw the YouTube video about web 3.0 and I have had this idea about our future economy.
It’s a bit in tune with the Zeitgeist film. See, if all of our knowledge was shared, we couldn’t make money of it. Siki?
    porno
    Porno izle
    sex videolar?
I’m a musician and I kinda have the feeling that in the future people will pay for live performances, because we have computer software that is very close to sounding like a musical instrument, with a modelled human touch. So, if a person that has never played the guitar, can click a button and sound like Jimi Hendrix, than what is the coolness about all this digital music really? Infact, I think that the more advanced this gets, the less interesting it becomes. We are still in awe over a youngster that can make the violin cry and we will definately be in even more awe when a person can actually do with their fingers that what we can do in an iPhone application.
