At least it was a short trip going to NY, probably a 20-minute flight that didn’t use up as much jet fuel as say, going to Crawford TX. And NY traffic is always sucked up, presidential visit or not. Besides, I think it’s cool to have traffic sucked up for a good reason like the prez rather than some drunken slob who got into a collision on the GWB.

But you’ve got to love Santorum’s logic. 1) Engage in a multi-year work-a-thon 2) ask your wife what she’d like as a symbolic thank-you for putting up with it 3) ignore what she asked for and 4) Drag her down to the local bar for a beer.

That being said, I enjoy watching the First Couple act like a married couple and plug their family values into society. So he takes a trip out to New York for a show. There’s no evidence that this is going to be the norm, and the fact he’s done his job over the past four months tells me that he deserves a night on the town.

We all need a break, and I doubt that Bush 43 would have disagreed with the trip himself.

It’s cool that the Obama’s seem to have a strong personal, romantic partnership.

It’s cool that they seem to make spending time together, and with their kids, a priority.

If we believe that the First Family act as role models, and that marriage (or partnership) and family benefit society; the Obama’s are doing a good job of promoting that lifestyle to the rest of us.
