While many on the far right have railed against Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court, comparing her to David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan, no one has been quiet as virulent in their opposition as MSNBC’s Pat Buchanan. From insisting she is an “affirmative action” choice to mocking her efforts to learn English, Buchanan has set his target squarely on Sotomayor’s forehead. Media Matters made a compilation of his attacks. Watch it:
Today, ThinkProgress’s Ian Millhiser appeared on MSNBC to discuss Sotomayor, opposite Buchanan. Buchanan declared Sotomayor favors a system in which “white males” get “retarded and held back.” Millhiser replied:
When you look at her record, you understand that this is a judge who understands that she has to follow the law, regardless of what is popular. … It doesn’t matter what Judge Sotomayor thinks about affirmative action personally, because when you look at her record, she has consistently followed the law.
“Judge Sotomayor is not waging a culture war against white America,” Millhiser added. Watch it:
ThinkProgress’s Ian Millhiser Debates Sotomayor’s Nomination With Pat Buchanan
– - No offense, but I much prefer watching Buchanan get the crap beat out of him regularly by Lawrence O’Donnell.
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:43 pmIt doesn’t matter what Judge Sotomayor thinks about affirmative action personally, because when you look at her record, she has consistently followed the law.
True dat. Of course, affirmative action is the law.
Their concern isn’t that she’s a “judicial activist.” Their concern is that she isn’t a judicial activist on behalf of white male privilege.
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:45 pmMinor typo correction. Quiet should equal “Quite”.
Then please delete this comment.
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:45 pmJudging by Buchanan, white males are already retarded.
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:51 pmWhy does MSNBC continue to give Buchanan air time? He’s completely irrelevant and outdated. He should just retire quietly and GO AWAY!
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:52 pmBuchanan…as usual likes to use these highly charged images of the white man being brought down by one justice…
Of course the whole breadth of Sotomayor’s decisions need to be taken into account as with any other nominee.
As I have stated before these ridiculous, highly charged words and images do not hold water…unless you are as ignorant as Buchanan.
It is amazing that this thinly veiled racism is being tolerated.
Buchanan and the rest of the white male repubs seem to have an issue with diversity on the court. What are they afraid of?
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:55 pmBut certain sects of white America seem to be waging war with just about everyone else in the world…look up neoliberalism, neocons, the whole history of the Republican party, ad nauseum…
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:55 pmNice job by Ian Millhiser but to be fair, outdebating Pat Buchanan at this point is kind of like outrunning the kid in the iron lung.
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:55 pmDon’t hurt him, Ian!
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:58 pmA debate?
Slaughter is more like it…
June 3rd, 2009 at 5:58 pmAnd we know how fair and balanced Buchanan is. He’s definitely the person I look to for objective information.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:02 pmkrystalview Says:
Why does MSNBC continue to give Buchanan air time? He’s completely irrelevant and outdated. He should just retire quietly and GO AWAY!
Aren’t we kind of straw-man’ing conservative arguments by having Buchanan on to present them…?
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:02 pmWell… Pat does make the right-wing look pretty bad… maybe MSNBC really IS leftist channel.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:02 pmTheir concern is that she isn’t a judicial activist on behalf of white male privilege.
We have a winner. Comment thread over.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:04 pmFrom Buchanan’s perspective, the old-fat-white-male point of view has no voice in US Government.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:07 pmAs I said before, it’s so heartwarming to see someone, like Buchanan, courageous enough to step up to the plate and speak on behalf of the poor, discriminated, oppressed, and downtrodden White man… sob…
**wipes tears away**
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:12 pmPat Buchanan is the original and most tenacious culture warrior. Over time, his efforts to go after African-Americans have not been successful (e.g., Barack Obama was elected president), so when he saw an opportunity to go after an Hispanic who’s also a woman, he obviously “seized the day” and continues to do so.
In truth, as a long-time fan of The McLaughlin Group, I often enjoy listening to Pat, who actually experiences bouts of sanity when not caught up in his culture war battle du jour. Get him started on, say, the abortion issue, however, and he rapidly becomes unhinged.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:14 pmPat is the very best at putting a happy face on racism for the 20%ers.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:16 pmBuchanan must be under an infinity contract with MSNBC.
His Archie Bunker style bigotry is not acceptable.
Ian did a great job putting Pat down today with calm and thought out arguments, in contrast to the bombastic Buchanan, who further proved his regressive bigotry. He is becoming a laughing stock, and should retire before he is laughed off the set.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:19 pmNo you’re right. I like debates that get straight to case history/facts. (although, got off topic around the time they went to the XTREEM NEWS QUAD MATRIX MODE)
Looks like a certain insect got his sleep last night. Go tp.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:23 pmBuchanan is once again revealed to be the racist he’s always been.
Ian, you were WAY too polite, but nice work. :)
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:23 pmJohnintexas Babbles:
Isn’t she one of the most often-reversed judges out there
No.
The rest of your fact-free post is not worth replying to.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:25 pmproud? c4p? we’re waiting for the voice of the retarded white male to speak…
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:26 pmHAHA! Thats all you got john! What you said was an example of why your party is contracting. Besides the legacy lack of empathy, you don’t know what the f- you’re talking about. Made me laugh, thanks.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:26 pmOK, remind me again why we’re still listening to unemployed Republicans like Buchanan, Cheney, Tom DeLay, Karl Rove and Joe the Plumber.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:26 pmthank god johnintexas chimed in with the perspective of the retarded white man buchanan is defending.

Yes, well-said, well-said!
Isn’t she one of the most often-reversed judges out there . . . i.e. . . . isn’t she another incompetent buffoon using her power to right the perceived slights and wrongs of childhood?
Like . . . maybe none of the guys asked her out to the prom so now she’s a man-hating lesbian . . . like, maybe she grew up wishing she was blond & blue-eyed and now is a virulent racist?
Reminds me a little of our current President doesn’t it?
Could be that’s why Obongo picked her. Two broken losers with a hunger for vengeance . . .
I think the libs are right for once, you really are a moron. Race vengeance? Lets look at the facts. Sotomayor may have used affirmative action, but shes more than qualified. I say give her a chance and keep a close watch on her.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:29 pmSounds like you speak from a long history of personal experience…please do not reply, this does not mean I want to talk to you…
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:30 pmIf nothing else, we may remember the nomination of Judge Sotomayor as the straw that tipped Pat Buchanan from cranky to stark, raving, mad.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:30 pmGood job Ian Millhiser! Pat Buchanan is a rascist to the tenth power. And the worst kind too because he makes these statements with a smile. Buchanan can’t mess with O’Donnell -he gets owned everytime.
johnintexas is back with his silly rascist comments. He’s one of those paranoid types who thinks President Obama has an ax to grind with white people! Laughable since his mom was a white woman from Kansas. That’s like saying he hates himself! Stupid johnintexas – just stupid!
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:32 pmjohnnyboy, who the hell is Obongo? And I think you have been watching batman to much, the “guess you didn’t get the memo” line is getting old.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:37 pmJohnintexas is a parody of himself. I don’t think he is for real. how could he be? Unless he watches FOX news that is…
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:37 pmThat’s President Obama to you – johnintejas!
He’s your President too whether you like it or not.
You just have a deep dark hatred for yourself.
People who spew hateful comments about others really have self-esteem problems and alot of self-loathing.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:37 pmDo you hate yourself johnintexas?
Yeah, passing credit card reform, speaking at notre-dame, bumping down payroll tax, passing a homowners tax credit. He sure hates them white people.

You can always tell a loser. They graduate at the top of their class at university, go on to end up on the law review, get elected to the US Senate or appointed to Court of Appeals and get elected President of the United States and nominated for SCOTUS.
Or they publish their childish hateful racist screeds on a blog.
Who is the loser, loser?
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:42 pmEveryone,
JohnInTex’sAss is a facist sucking, RePugniScum troll and waste of time.
Talk about the varmit but not to the varmit.
You’ve been warned.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:43 pmI’m white, lived in Chicago for several years, and have friends who are members of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, the former parish of Barack and Michelle Obama and their daughters. Believe me: parishioners at Trinity do not hate white people.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:44 pmHi Intellectual Heavyweight….
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:44 pmJohnintexas this thread is about conservative bone heads like you.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:45 pmOhhh…I didn’t mean to insult varmits…my bad….

June 3rd, 2009 at 6:45 pmIt seems to me that she consistently follows precedent. Isn’t that exactly what Republicans say they want?
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:46 pmJohnintexas should take his racism to some other country. Perhaps a nice theocracy somewhere.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:46 pmJohnintexas Says:
As a mulatto, he could have lived his life as a white man or a Negro. He chose Negro.
Because he looks so white he could have passed. Except in, well, reality land.

Sorry, but this won’t mean anything to the texasracist. He’s already made up his “mind” on the subject and facts and good sense need not apply.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:48 pmThey keep forgetting the white parishioners. And I haven’t seen a single word or dead of President Obama that would indicate a hate of anybody. I guess when you hate yourself you think everybody else hates you too. And if you work at it, like a stupid troll, you can ensure that everybody hates you.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:48 pmWhy was living as a mulatto not an option?

June 3rd, 2009 at 6:49 pmWhen President Obama nominated Judge Sotomayor, he made an excellent choice! Now it’s a known fact that Judge Sotomayor rules according to the LAW! Pat Buchanan can’t dispute her ruling in 2002 in Pappas v. Giuliani!
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:51 pmflag the racistintexas folks.his racist rant at #42 is flat out unacceptable. If he can’t contain himself he should go away.

they are both people who deeply identify with race. They wallow in it.
Pot. Kettle. Black.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:55 pmOne wonders whether Johnintexas has even been to Chicago. I have some extended family members who are similarly angry, under-educated but stubbornly opinionated “conservatives,” and they rarely leave their own backyard.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:56 pmI think he did an outstanding job handling the Grand Wizard.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:57 pmthis clown is another attention needing fraud. Just ignore them. They are not real. They are lonely that’s all.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:58 pmThat’s the whole thing, hormiga brava chavez. She has an impeccable and long record both academically and on the bench. She’s made a few enemies by demanding her level of excellence in her court which I think is awesome. She was originally appointed by a Republican and has already been confirmed, with Republican support, twice in the Senate. There’s no valid reason to object to her appointment.
So? They simply make sh!t up and hope the morons, like our pet rolls, swallow the line and let their fear rule. Anything to keep the stupid and the cowardly stirred up.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:59 pmTalking about yourself in the third person, sounds like you speak from a long extremely painful prison of self-hatred & personal experience…please do not reply, this does not mean I want to talk to you..

June 3rd, 2009 at 7:05 pmJohnintexas is clearly not a concerned citizen. I doubt he knows anything about America in general. I think he just wants attention. There, there Johnintexas.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:07 pmY’all,
And all of these years I thought the KKK “wallow[ed]” “with race.”?…
I mean… with all those clown hoods and chicken-shit tactics like night raids and fear tactics just like the RePugniScums aren’t they the “wallow[ing]” racist scum?
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:08 pmHow long are you folks gonna play with this fraud and loser?
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:10 pmpete,
So true! They just make it up! I think it’s also a huge deal that 145 of her former Law Clerks wrote a letter to Senators praising Sotomayor. Sotomayor has garnered a tremendous amount of respect and praise from her employees and colleagues. Few object to or dispute her record.
I just laugh now when I hear Buchanan, Limbaugh and Gingrich spew their nonsense commentary.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:10 pmSpeaking about yourself in third person, it sounds like you speak from a long, extremely painful history of personal experience, imprisoned by self-hatred…please do not reply, this does not mean I want to talk to you..
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 pmI’m actually finding it hard to be disgusted by someone who Believes so many things that are the opposite of true. This one is beyond Lush Rimjob’s level of delusion. This one sounds more like a product of Klan rallies and late nights on Stormfront.
Poor li’ feller. He never really had a chance.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 pmNIce links to your “quote” texasjackass. you’ve already proven yourself to be an idiot, a racist and a fool.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:11 pmIndeed they are dixie blood!
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:13 pmI hear racists like Johnintexas are usually under achievers. They are racist in order to bolster their own sense of self.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:14 pmPat Buchanan has much in common with the trolls.

June 3rd, 2009 at 7:14 pmjohnnyboy, I haven’t bad mouthed my country, I’ve bad mouthed you. I have no time for skinhead nazi racists like yourself.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:16 pmAs I read it, Judge Sotomayor didn’t “rule against a white man”. She, and two of her colleagues, decided that the policies in place protected the defendant from specific damages. The ruling had nothing to do with race.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:17 pmJohnintexas Says:
In Ricci v. DeStefano she ruled against the white fire-fighter
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmClinically speaking, I concur. The nomination of an accomplished, strong Latina woman to the Supreme Court has really driven them around the bend. As if having a mixed-race President wasn’t enough.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmKudos to Ian – big time! I purposely watched this segment when I realized that a rep from TP would be on. What I saw was a complete and utter “evisceration” of Pat Buchanan. It was masterful and reduced Pat to a bumbling idiot/hypocrite.
Why Tweety keeps a racist like Buchanan on his show as a commentator is beyond me and totally discredits MSNBC. Of course, if their goal is privide illustration to the people of the total idiocy and illiteracy of the right wingnut party, then the goal is well served.
Ian hit it out of the park and Buchanan was reduced to pure rubble and drivel. At one point he was so totally outclassed that he called Sonia Sotomayor “Judge Mayor”.,….what a classless fool Pat has become.
I hope to see Ian out there making Republicans look like unprepared, inane fools much, much more!
Keep up the great work, Ian – the true people’s work!
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmjohnnyboy, I’ll put up my DD214 against yours any day. Name the place and time.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmJohnintexas’s brand of good-ole boy racism, sexism, bigotry and homophobia is dying out, and he is PISSED. His patron saint, George Dubya Bush, has retired. The all-white country club where he works as dishwasher and busboy has to let The Black Man in, AND there’s A Black Man/Muslim in the White House, where only white people have lived before!
Johnintexas’s world has been turned upside down. We can only hope that he doesn’t have access to a gun.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmWould anyone be interested in having a thread to address the issue of handling trolls. The hate speech is out of the ball park. There is so much to defend, the stories of women have late-term abortions, for instance, are not being told. A cartoon strawman of the woman has is dominating. The racism issue that our president says it’s time to talk about is kind of floundering. We are addressing it, but we are in the larval stage of discourse in the blogging community, especially where race, gender, sex, and science are concerned.
I’m of the opinion that most of the trolls we see lately are high school kids. School is out and all of a sudden more one-liners are posting during school hours and staying up late. Should adults that are discussing such vital citizen’s issues, in an environment where hate-speech is broiling and true bigots are having a field day, be tolerating the presence of anti-social children (or adults with the emotional IQ of young children) who have no intention of participating in a conversation, much less discourse?
Whack-a-Troll was perfect for the discourse during the presidential election campaign. It was in my top three reasons for staying here, at TP. But the ugliness that is bringing down the dialogue right now is in an order all it’s own and I feel that women, minorities, and our President really need to be well defended now. Liberals and Progressives don’t need to be wasting time with the untrained children of the 18%.
Anyway, anyone else interested in a meta-thread for discourse on discourse and the problem of hateful trolls?
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmIf you want a view into just how demented and racist Pat Buchanan’s mind is, just read the testimony of Johnintexas the troll in this thread. then have shower…

June 3rd, 2009 at 7:20 pmJohnintexas Says:
Isn’t she one of the most often-reversed judges out there
No. Out of over 400 cases she’s decided on the 2nd circuit, only 5 have been taken up for review by the SCOTUS, with 3 overturned. So less than 1.75% of her cases have been overturned. Of course if you use wingnut math, that’s an overturn rate of “60%.” Because you are stupid.

Johnintexas Says:

Guess you didn’t get the memo.
No, we saw the Palin/McCain Reichstag rallies. They were most entertaining for us.
You know what? You don’t get to tell us who’s a racist, racist. And you definitely don’t get to tell us what’s pro- and anti-American, much less say a damn thing about the Constitution. You’re just another little KKK and/or neo-Nazi Aryan Nations puke. I bet you’re wearing a freaking armband right now. Your kind don’t belong in this country and never did. And you know damn well that all you’re accomplishing by vomiting your sickness on this board is to discredit the conservatism that you claim to align yourself with.

I hear it’s all about feelings of inferiority. They can’t keep up with the “other” kids so they decide it’s because the “other” kids are out to get them. Eventually, they end up with other social outcasts who can’t get their crap together, in person or online, and drink too much piss-warm LoneStar and smoke meth.
They feed on each others insignificance until they can’t see anything but a dark pit of despair.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:22 pmPost 42 is flagged………….again
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:22 pmI’m betting our racist troll is really a George Wallace man from way back.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:23 pmWe really are only dealing with one totally fuc ked up unstable loser here with many incarnations. The normal trolls are a riot and still a joy to smack about. This little feller gets real sad inside when ignored which is why it is the best policy. The others are fine to fool with however. The little feller has to go to ridiculous extremes of race and gender becuase it can’t get the attention it seeks in the traditional way…
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:24 pmWhy do you people keep responding to Johnintexas? You’re only giving him more incentive to spew his crap and cluttering up the comments section.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:25 pmThey are consumed by self-hatred and narcissism and they are unaware of how deep in the darkness they really are…sad…and dangerous…
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:25 pmHey John the Steer Queer from Texastan. I see you’re back from buttblasting the cattle. Why don’t you steer queering Texanstanians just do this country a favor and secede like Perry has been suggesting. We don’t need Texastan and America can do better without you racist redneck pro torture, pro rape, pro crime neocon scum. Just think. It’ll do you good. You can elect Bush once again as President and he can be alongside Cheney as VP and Lizbo can run a major public office at the ranch. She can be Secretary of Steer Queering.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:27 pmwiley, we’ve been trying out an “ignore” policy and it seems to be having some impact. We disposed of that parody troll Merde yesterday, but today the new sockpuppet and racistintexas have been really abusive and subhuman, so i’ve been again advocating Flag and Ignore.
It’s a difficult strategy to pull off en masse — we are progressives, after all, and not really prone to groupthink — but I think it can be very effective.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:28 pmralph, you are right. I also will just ignore the little racist.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:30 pmMy only concern with the ignore policy it that we risk causing serious damage to already troubled souls. These folks are really crying out and know not how to fit in a world which has isolated and alienated them. Vile as they are they simply want to be accepted but lack the skills needed to form positive social affiliations. Further isolation could push them that little step too far…
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:31 pmI’m with dbadass. We’re dealing with a very small group of nut/nuts. Personally, I think he/they lose half a brain with every new sock puppet.
As for the whacking. It seems that there’s a consensus to ignore most of the crap or make observations. But, sometimes they say stuff that touches a nerve and, in that case, deserves comment. It sure would be nice if TP would ban by IP and eliminate the worst offenders though.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:33 pmI understand your concern, dbadass, but this really isn’t the proper environment to address these needs. This is a research environment. Some of our guests really need a team of practitioners. Or perhaps a residential treatment facility. I think a therapeutic community could do wonders for them.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 pmpete, I’m as vulnerable to taking a swing at a nice, fat hanging curveball as the next Whack-A-Troller, so I know what you’re saying.
Generally my approach is to give the troll an assessment period, especially if it’s a new sockpuppet, and try to engage. Only when it proves completely unsociable will I step back and just ignore it. For me, the racistintexas passed that boundary sometime this morning.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 pmSome trolls are just annoying – like merdad – and easy to ignore but some – like johnfromtexas – need to get whacked for their mean comments. Ignoring is a temporary solution until they change their screen name/handle and come back for more.

For me, he passed it yesterday or the day before.
This one has the stench of irighti, who was about as racist, misogynist, moronic, White supremacist-like, and with the same inability to grasp simple facts. Irighti also claimed to be a conservative from Texas, by the way.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:44 pmralph the wonder locust Says:
wiley, we’ve been trying out an “ignore” policy and it seems to be having some impact.
Whassisname from yesterday wasn’t worth responding to primarily because he wasn’t addressing the topic – or any substantive topic, for that matter.
However, Dukakis Gore and Kerry all learned that being “above that” and failing to respond to even the most disgusting slurs coming from the wingnutosphere just makes them stronger. JIT is on topic and does give reasons for his opinions; the stench coming off of him is the same one that comes off of any Aryan Nations puke who crawls out from their bunker to scream about all the brown people taking over their “White Nation.” I submit that they require vigorous dissent and exposure even more than more rational right wingers do.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 pmActually I thought the Texas twat got banned yesterday. He’s been exceedingly vile from his first post.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 pmOh, please, please, please when a troll is engaging in hate speech or just here to insult their liberal strawmen, do not talk to them. Talk about their stupid ass*s or the phenomonen itself if you must, or when it seems particularly appropriate, but please don’t talk to them.
I’ve started to recommend every post that is one of the following:
on topic
factual
insightful
probing
an entertaining zinger
a thoughtful question
addresses the discourse itself in a way that enriches dialogue
a new take on the issue
whether I agree or not. Some concern trolling can have the above qualities, but I don’t recommend them. It should be people having dialogues noted, and trolls ignored. Dialogue? SCORE! Trolls. FAIL
I would like for TP do clean out posts by people who are here to insult and do not even pretend to engage. I would like people who engage in unmitigated racist, sexist, or heterosexualist hate speech shunned, then deleted.
I suspect a certain night in shining armor will mount his stallion and accuse this of bigotry that will lead to genocide, but I see it as unnecessary and weak to tolerate anti-social behavior. It is also of no benefit to anti-social people. They don’t need to be accepted for this behavior— the exercise of their bigotry is self-fortifying.
If you were having a meeting to discuss a political issue of consequence, would you let a kid hang around and heckle and mock you? The cyber mind is in it’s terrible twos. I think it’s time for a discipline.
A lot of the threads are particularly hot lately, btw. Real discourse—diverse, thoughtful, loaded with facts, and aware of itself.
June 3rd, 2009 at 8:00 pmElBruce, I’m not in favor of an Ignore policy simply for garden-variety trolls.
Only for the ones who aggressively disrupt the threads with abuse or utter inanity.
June 3rd, 2009 at 8:37 pmWe may call them mean names, but there’s a certain grudging love/hate thing that a lot of us have with many of our trolls. I’m all but having a love-fest with backup in the GM thread, and IntellectualHeavyweight actuall took the time to refute Johnintexas. But Jit has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, unless it’s to make the other side look truly foul.
By the way, Republicans, that DHS report about “extremist right-wing groups” wasn’t talking about anything to the left of the likes of Jit and his KKK/Aryan-Nations/Neo-Nazi types. You seem to have forgotten just how ugly it can get that far off to the right in the wilderness; but they’ve been waiting for you for quite a while now. You may have dumped them after Oklahoma City, but they always knew you’d come back. Now it’s on you to figure out how to disassociate yourselves from them again, if you actually have the desire to.

and I’ll type this slowly so you can grasp it
Dude, http doesn’t allow me to read your keystroke rate. You’re really profoundly stupid, aren’t you?
.
Johnintexas Says:
What that shows is that on the big cases . . . you know, those involving the Constitutional principles the Supreme Court spends its time on . . . she got it wrong the majority of the time.
The SCOTUS overturns about 76% of the cases that it reviews. It intentionally picks up cases that it believes could use a SCOTUS ruling. So she’s still well below the average with 60%.
.
Johnintexas Says:
What that show is that she is a minor-leaguer . . . not ready for major leagues.
Where would you put her, the “Negro League?”
You don’t have to answer that. We already know what you’d prefer, you “Aryan” filth.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:33 pmIs it just me or is there a buzzing sound? Just an annoying low grade racist sexist stupid lame ass buzzing sound…
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 pmjackassintexas says;
My point of view . . . the majority of American points of view . . . do not agree with your liberal bilge.
What the idiot doesn’t seem to understand is, the majority of Americans have rejected his point of view, as evidenced by President Obama’s toatal asskicking of grampy mcdepends and caribou barbie.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:45 pmI think this one had a psychotic break or, in technical terms, it’s batscat crazy. It takes real rubber room fodder to maintain such a level of self-deception.
Though I suppose it could be heavy metal poisoning and/or white trash parents and associates. It must be an awful way to live.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:22 pmJohnintexas Says:
Well obviously not as profoundly stupid as you, you humorless liberal hack.
Ooh, a “NO U” comeback. Nice. That’s automatically another point for me, btw.
.
Johnintexas Says:
The two stats don’t even jive, you jive-ass liberal. It’s apples & oranges.
How so? Let’s go to the numbers:
* Over 400 cases judged
* Five of those have been reviewed by the SCOTUS (less than 1.25% of total)
* Three of those have been overturned by the SCOTUS (less than 0.75% of total, exactly 60% of those reviewed)
* Even if you use the 60% rate, that beats the average 76% for all circuit court judges.
So which fruit was which again? Which numbers do you want to go by? What case do you think you can make with them?
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:52 pmJohnintexas Says:
Look, nitwit, it doesn’t matter what the batting average is for this or that Circuit Court since not every CC judge rises to be a Supreme Court Justice.
So you are comparing apples (the average circuit court judge) with oranges (circuit court judges who became SC judges).
I eagerly await your comparison of her qualifications with any sitting Justices at the time they were nominated. Warning – you might not like what you find when you go look that up either… heh.
.
Johnintexas Says:
To compare apples with apples . . . she’s at 60% soon to be 80%.
It’s awesome when y’all base your arguments on your own wishful-thinking predictions. Mainly because you’re always wrong. Overturning Ricci would amount to basically throwing out a vast amount of standing civil rights law. Mind you, I wouldn’t put it past the SCOTUS as it sits presently, but still that would amount to judicial activism of the highest order.
.
Johnintexas Says:
Is that who we want . . . a racist lesbian
Hang on a sec – you’re a racist. I mean, I’m not calling you that as an insult, it’s just plain fact. You’re the one who said that white people were doing “the Negroes” a favor by enslaving them, as well as a number of things that pretty much the hardcore definition of racist exists to refer to. And you’re saying she’s just like you? Why don’t you like her if you’re both racists?
As to her sexual orientation, I’ll take her ex-husband’s word for it over yours.

From the WSJ:
“A total of 118 applicants took the two tests in late 2003, and 59 earned passing scores. But because there were limited vacancies, only the top scorers were eligible for promotion — a group comprised of 17 whites, and two Hispanics. None of the 27 black firefighters with passing scores was eligible. The city ultimately rejected the results of the test. Firefighters whose scores gave them a good chance at being promoted filed suit.”
Please get your facts and your half-baked arguments straight.
June 4th, 2009 at 3:06 amI like the way you hear the trolls lately, dbadass.
I’m seeing some new responses to trolls that endear me. Things seem to be getting on keel. I think we regular progressives here (and back up) are discerning people. Wack-a-troll has its place, as does ignore-the-troll, mock-the-troll, and pity-the-troll.
I’m very pleased that m_____d (the name which I will not speak) is gone. And I’m looking forward to J_____a*S being gone because he engages in hate speech, which is something I don’t ever want to see in our comment sections. It’s not like we don’t know it’s out there. Why let it occupy space that is dedicated to Progressives?

June 4th, 2009 at 5:58 amJohnintexas Says:
In Ricci v. DeStefano she ruled against the white fire-fighter . . . even though it’s clear that not a single negro was smart enough to pass the test.
Even if you believe that the failure of the black firefighters to earn promotion was due to their own deficiencies rather than test bias, the law says that you have to assume the opposite. You may disagree with civil rights law, seeing as how you’re a neo-Nazi and all, but the fact remains that it’s still the law until Congress says otherwise.
Under the law as it stands, if they had not thrown out the test, then the black firefighters would have had a much better case to make in their inevitable lawsuit than the white firefighters do now. Seeing as being sued by one group or the other was their only two options, they went with the one that would produce a worse legal case against them.
Title VII of the civil rights act says they had to throw out the test because its results demonstrated that it was racially biased. That’s not a matter of opinion, it’s a matter of standing law. The lower court ruled that doing so was legally appropriate. The three-judge panel Sotomayor sat on merely ruled that the lower court ruled correctly.
Wingnuts keep calling for judges who will judge based only on the law and not on their political opinions. But that’s exactly what everybody involved in Ricci did. What you’re saying is that she should have ignored the civil rights act and engaged in judicial activism.

I knew he would still be wallpapering this thread. I take the Holocaust seriously enough not to wear it out. I am not nor have I ever been anti-semitic. I’m agnostic. Why in the world would I be anti-semitic? The assertion that I would “forget” or approve of any persecution and systematic murder is anti-social.
