Limbaugh: ‘I do want and I still want Obama to fail.’

On Hannity’s America tonight, host Sean Hannity interviewed conservative talker Rush Limbaugh. In one of his first questions, Hannity attempted to portray the media as being unfair to Limbaugh by characterizing him as wanting President Obama to fail as president. Limbaugh, however, quickly corrected Hannity, insisting that he does indeed want Obama to fail:

HANNITY: Last time I’m here, I ask you…do you want [Obama] to succeed. You gave a very long answer that got reduced to Rush wants Obama to fail. Which wasn’t what you said.

LIMBAUGH: Well, in a sense it was. It was. I don’t hide from it, I do want and I still want Obama to fail.

Watch it:

Later in the interview, Limbaugh reiterated his belief that Gen. Colin Powell endorsed Obama only because of his race and that Judge Sonia Sotomayor is a racist. Limbaugh, however, said that he may be able to “overlook” her racism and support her nomination if he comes to believe that Sotomayor is anti-choice.

This should be a warning to all that flunking out of college or dropping out of college to become a hatemonger will make you either a drug addled gas bag or just a totally whacked out lunatic. You do not want to be like these individuals.

  13. God says:

Think progress foments hate among the braindead sheeple. Soon the left wing terrorists will get tired of simply spewing their hatred online for no apparent reason with no apparent impact.

Many of you will go on to commit terrorist acts and should be investigated given your hate speech against Christians. You hate Christians as much as the KKK hates Jews. Many of you I have seen wish them dead or locked up.
Little Hitlers online! Dreaming of gassing Christians or anyone that doesnt follow your ideology. Gone are freedoms of speech, gone is equality.
Hitler and Joseph Goebbels did the same as you and ThinkProgress does and demonized the Jews with their propaganda.
Goebbels would be so proud of you left wing brown shirts with your anti-Christian, anti-semetic rants

You jack off to the thoughts of Christians dying. You are probably planning to burn down a church.

I know Republican_hates_facts is mentally disturbed as much as the guy who shot the abortion doctor. We all know he is going to kill a random Christian someday soon.
And I know many more of you so filled with hatred that you are probably fantasizing about it. You definitely write about it here. Kill the Christians you chant in unison on every blog entry!
Nazi Germany brown shirts exactly like the left wing terrorists who hang out here spewing hate, only more compassionate

If you left wingers are going to move online with your hatred and decide to start harming people. Turn yourself into the police, seek mental help before you kill any Christians

Bah it’s buzzing all over the threads. Stand strong TP posters. Don’t indulge the troll :)

As for the issue in this post, who cares what Rush thinks other than racist, greedy, ignorant extremists?

  15. ElBruce says:

SSDD. Hey TP, you’ve reported on Rush saying this at least three times now. We get it.

I take his meaning just fine. He believes that Obama is harming the country, and he wants him to fail in doing so. You can take Rush’s statement as an attack on the country only if you believe that he believes that Obama’s policies are good for it. Which I doubt he believes.

Of course, Bush failed utterly at everything, and he still managed to drag the country down with him, so…

  16. dbadass says:

    JohninTexas,

Some college professors might be liberals, but if they are liberals, then they certainly aren’t fascists. Fascism is on the right, not the left. It is Conservatives that lean towards fascism in America, not the left.

Your prejudice against the left is clearly indicated by you supposing liberals live with their parents as long as possible. You have pre-judged liberals to fit a stereotype you believe to be reality. That is prejudice and that makes you a bigot.

Why would you hope that America fails unless you aren’t a patriotic American?

Limbaugh is a traitor to his country and those that support him are just as treasonous.

America has failed, should fail and ultimately will fail soon. For too long the political class has made the wrong decisions and steered this ship into the rocks.
99 trillion dollars of US debt obligations to social security, medicare/medicaid, government worker pensions where they take care of their own. Work 20 years for the government receive a pension and live another 50 years on the taxpayers dime.
The country is bankrupt. It holds no moral legitimacy. No economic legitimacy. Obama quadrupled the deficit in one year.

The laziness and greed of the USA is non-sustainable. Obama has put a nail in the USA’s coffin. A death that is well deserved and the sheeple who voted for the polical class deserve what is coming to them.
Yes there is no doubt Obama will fail. No need to hope for it, its inevitable. Runaway inflation, skyrocketing taxes, 20% inflation.
This stimulus package is just a sugar high as was stated. The unemployment will continue to go up.
USA IS DOOMED! YAY! The worst generation gets its karmic return in spades!
Riots in the streets! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!

Not only do all of you hate Christians with your hate speech, now its clear you hate God!
That is not good for your undying soul atman

am unchanging, infinite, immanent, and transcendent reality which is the Divine Ground of all matter, energy, time, space, being, and everything beyond in this Universe. Also: Absolute Reality or universal substrate, eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and ultimately indescribable in human language. As well as the sum total of the objective universe, some human minds boggle at any attempt to explain it with only the tools provided by reason. It is beyond the senses, beyond the mind, beyond intelligence, beyond imagination. Indeed, the highest idea is that the idea of me transcends and includes time, causation and space, and thus can never be known in the same material sense as one traditionally ‘understands’ a given concept or object.

As atman, you deny Brahman, semantically the same as God, just a different label for the same thing That is very bad

This dual nature of the single divinity or totality of the universe, Brahman and Atman, gets worked out in the following way. Brahman can be located both in the physical, external world and also in the spiritual and inner world where it is present as Atman, “universal spirit.” Now every human being has an undying soul (atman) which, because of samsara, lasts through eternity from life to life; this undying atman is a microcosm of Atman, the universal spirit, which is identical to Brahman. By understanding your true Self, by coming to know one’s own undying soul, one then arrives at the knowledge of Brahman itself; the key to understanding the nature of the one unitary principle of the universe is to see one’s (undying) self as identical with Brahman: “aham asmi Brahman”: I am Brahman.

Here’s the equation: Brahman=Atman=atman. Brahman is the totality of the universe as it is present outside of you;, Atman is the totality of the universe as it is present within you; Brahman is the totality of the world known objectively, Atman is the totality of the world known subjectively. This equation fundamentally underlies the whole of Krishna’s teachings concerning dharma in the Baghavad Gita .

God is the creator of everything

I think this is good news. These poor little chickenhawks are now resigned to keeping company with each other because they have lost so much influence that they can’t make it on their own anymore . . . and virtually no one (other than Newtie, RoverBoy and Darth Cheney) will give them the time of day.

Jesus is just a fairytale, never happened, but still you shouldnt hate people who believe in a fantasy.
Hatred is bad! Very bad, whether it is Al Qaeda terrorists, right wingers who hate and you left wingers so filled with hatred of Christians that dont believe in your ideology.
You hate Christians as much as the KKK hates Jews. There is no difference between your fervent hatred of others different from you.
Its all good though b/c pretty soon the USA will fail and you will be begging for food and wont care enough to hate other people. Particularly b/c they are probably the only people who will feed you.

Hatred will consume you, you fear them!
Fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will
Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Sorry, but late to the thread; Limbaugh is nothing short of patholigical. Liar, illicit drug abuser, husband failure (multiple offender in this respect also), discompassionate, inhuman and just plain rotten to the core, Rush Limbaugh is is an absolute, total scourge to all that encompasses humanity. It just saddens me to no end that people feel the need to listen to this boob.

For those of you who suffer from this weakness of subserviance to Rush, ask yourselves this question; am I a human being without Rush? If you aren’t, then what will happen to you when he dies?

I just don’t understand people that revel in a world of chaos when we are capable of having a world totally absolved of it.

  99. ralph the wonder locust says:

Since b-cup feels compelled to reiterate his long-standing position on Limbaugh’s hope for the failure of the President, I guess I can restate my own perspective:

if the nation succeeds — if the economy recovers, if our foreign policy leads to greater stability in troubled areas, if our social policy leads to greater stability and prosperity at home, regardless of the means to achieve that – Obama will get the credit. Doesn’t matter if it’s his “socialist” policies that are responsible or not. If the nation is peaceful and prosperous three years from now, Obama will be re-elected.

Limbaugh does not want Obama to win a second term.

Thus it stands to reason that Limbaugh hopes for greater economic stress for Americans, for failures abroad, and for dissatisfaction across the nation. He has to hope for this, or else his ideology has no prayer of regaining relevance.

That sure looks like he wants America to fail, to me anyway.

  100. Mr. Evil says:

It’s still amazing that republicans feel relevant even though they have nothing of substance to offer this country. Nothing. Absolutely nothing!

  101. soze16 says:

Yes, wanting the president to fail and wanting the country to succeed are mutually exclusive.
George W. Bush was a war criminal, a liar, an embarrassment, and an appalling president, but I never WANTED him to be. I never HOPED he continued screwing over my country. I would have LOVED for him to be a better president than he was. Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, wants Barack Obama to fail even though a president’s failure is, inevitably, synonymous with the failure of the country they govern. His damage control attempts are obvious crap, and this fat, draft-dodging junkie stands revealed as someone who cares more about ideology than his country.

    How’s it going, ralph?

I keep chiming in, because I really don’t get it.

I just don’t believe that if a Palin type conservative became President that progressives could genuinely hope for his/her success in changing the direction of the country to become more fundamentalist or conservative. If someone like Palin became President, I would expect progressives to want her to fail to implement the policies that she champions.

It makes sense to disagree with Limbaugh and his ideas. But, it doesn’t make sense that he should be expected to root for President Obama to succeed in taking the country farther from where he thinks it should be.

  106. hormiga brava chavez says:

That’s not what Limbaugh said. He said “I hope he fails”. Nothing that nuanced. He wants Obama to fail in governing the country, thus continuing or exacerbating the mess we’re in, because he doesn’t care if the country goes to shit, as long as he looks smart. This is a man who’s on record as sneering about how HE’S not being hit by the recession.

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iqyaFh_efr-brDq0rMLF1hkop0tgD98JFAP00

Afghans say 140 civilians died on May 4, while American commanders say video evidence recorded by fighter jets and the account of the ground commander suggest no more than 30 civilians were killed, as well as 60 to 65 Taliban.
The International Committee of the Red Cross said a team that it sent to the area saw “dozens of bodies in each of the two locations,” including women and children.

During the Bush administration, conservatives complained that those expressing opposition to the war in Iraq were being traitorous or unpatriotic or partisan.

I imagine that progressives probably felt that it was actually patriotic to voice opposition to what they saw was wrong, rather than cheerlead a false idea they disagreed with.

In this instance, does it make more sense for people to vocally protest the errant bombings and mismanagement in the hopes it will curb the behavior, or does it make more sense to ignore them due to the potential damaging effect the information could have on the future prosecution of the efforts in Afghanistan?

    We’ll see.

What’s patriotic is probably determined by the bias of those making the judgement.

If you share ideology with Limbaugh, you probably view opposition to Obama as patriotic, not partisan obstructionism. Obviously, if you reject Limbaugh’s views, you are more likely to see his resistance as mere partisanship.

The Repubs in Congress have gone into full obstruction mode.

Across the country, wingnuts are stocking up on guns and scrabbling to find ammo.

The right float one scary rumor after another rumor about Obama’s unexceptionable Supreme Court nominee. They are mad as hell and they will not be pacified.

The clueless are planning more tea parties. (How long before someone opens fire at one of these things?)

President Obama reaches out to the Republicans, and they bite him, apparently unaware he is carrying their policies forward.

Meanwhile, Pro-Lifers have started another one of their killing sprees.

The conclusion is unavoidable. The culture wars are on. The Right intend to make everyone as miserable as themselves.

There is no chance America will regain its health with these people around.

I propose we airlift the cool people out of Utah and and herd our right-wing brethren there. They can have their own country, Wingnutania, where they can practise their catastrophic policies to their hearts’ content.

Wingnutania would be a nation of almost all aging white males. They would have a death penalty. There would be plenty of gays,m yet homosexuality would be illegal. Women would be forced to have babies. The infant mortality rate would be sky-high. There would be a guin under every pillow.

They would be dead within weeks. Cultural wars over. Problem solved. Thank you very much.

Or is “heaven” in a different time continuum?

this troll sounds like just another right wing coward, sort of like CFP

At least back-up is entertaining, in a trained-seal sort of way. He tries to act conservative, but at times you can tell his heart really isn’t in it, and he going through a routine. You’d know, Tommy, a performance. But you can’t lip-synch online.

so maybe he is just parodying the real ignorance and cowardice of people like CFP?

remember the other day when some troll was demanding a list of profitable union companies while declaring they didn’t exist?

why are trolls so wrong so often?

Whatever you do, don’t make your own way in the wolrd or thnk for yourself. You don’t want to be like Mr. Limbaugh … a man who owns a private jet, a fleet of cars, beautiful homes, is the top-rated radio personality, is a multi-millionaire.
If that’s a gauge of alleged success and happiness, John, I want no part of it. Limbaugh has three failed marriages, no children, was caught with Oxycontin without a prescription one time and Viagra on his way to the Dominican Republic, which conjures sick images of mating with children. The man is sick, pathological, and alone in his Florida mansion. I do not think of him as a success, but as a demon-ridden failure.
“What profit a man if he gain the whole world, but suffer the loss of his own soul.” That Biblican phrase describes Rushbo to a T.

  174. Patty says:

What’s bugging Rush, it seems, is the amount of attention being paid to his pontificating — not from his targeted conservative audience, but from the more liberal, progressive ears of the country.

He begged — in the form of a challenge — for MSNBC not to mention his name or his program for a month. Probably seemed to himself like a clever way to get some breathing space from the microscope he’s been under.

Wisely, MSNBC hosts told him where to put that idea.

Knowledge is power; in this forum, knowledge comes from hearing and sharing Mr. Limbaugh’s rants and raves. When we all know what he’s saying and his motives, he becomes:

    insignificant.

And that is his greatest fear because then he loses his contract.

More and more, his extreme verbiage has all the power of crickets chirping.

  175. Purple State says:

    Wait…that last few seconds…

Rush: “I love America. I want everybody to succeed.”

Call me a projection player or whatever you want, but…doesn’t the likes of Obama fall under the general umbrella of “everybody”?

Rush, you just proclaimed that you want Obama to succeed. Indirectly, but you just proclaimed it.

Flip. Flop. Flip. Flop. Flip. Flop. Flip. Flop. Flip. Flop.

  176. The Dogfather says:

Hey “god” — I’d just “think perhaps” that if you really were who you apparently think you are, you’d know a little something about how to spell and use puncuation correctly…looking at your myriad posts on just this one thread, it’s pretty clear that either (a) you’re not really the omnipotent being that you claim to be, or (b) that you’re a god of a non-Christian religion where English isn’t the language of choice.

I think I’m going with choice (a)… And in that case, STFU.

  177. The Dogfather says:

BTW, “god” — did you catch the subtle and intentional irony in #197?

Barack Obama may not fail if he would truly bless the following endeavor (after all, Obama is a racial minority):

On June 10, 2009, “THE DISSEMINATING MACHINE” will start to disseminate thousands of copies of the post indicated below onto the Internet at lightning-like speed. By the end of June, one will be able to go to Google, type “George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her,” hit “Enter,” and find 1,000 or more copies indicating content of the post indicated below. If not—it would only be because the name “George W. Bush” has become substantially less popular on the Internet, and searches relating to “George W. Bush” would thus have turned up less results.

    EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!

    NOTICE! NOTICE! NOTICE!

If anyone believes that any non-Jewish Caucasian U.S. president within the next few decades has murdered any racial minority in the disgusting way George W. Bush murdered Margie Schoedinger, please contact “THE DISSEMINATING MACHINE” immediately (by leaving one’s complaint at http://andrewyu-jenwang.blogspot.com/2009/01/online-anti-bush-educational-scholastic.html “Post a Comment”), and “THE DISSEMINATING MACHINE” will disseminate thousands of copies of the relevant scandalous presidential information onto the Internet at lightning-like speed (including worldwide dissemination into numerous foreign countries if necessary—in the case that any non-Jewish Caucasian U.S. president has murdered “NUMEROUS” racial minorities in the way George W. Bush murdered Margie Schoedinger, AND the murders can be proved). The lovely, beautiful, and great countries of Russia and China are always by default informed of whatever scandalous presidential information—thousands of copies (general dissemination onto the Russian and Chinese Internet, dissemination into Russian and Chinese legislative and executive government units, Russian and Chinese national-security government units, etc.). Copies in Russia and China (general foreign Internet dissemination) shall indicate that the presidents of Russia and China are to be immediately informed of the information relating to scandal(s).

COPY OF POST OF JUNE 2009:

    SCANDAL! SCANDAL! SCANDAL!

    EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!

George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her.

“In her suit [against George W. Bush], Margie Schoedinger states that George W. Bush committed sexual crimes against her, organized harassment and moral pressure on her, her family members and close relatives and friends. As Schoedinger said, she was strongly recommended to keep her mouth shut. In addition to that, three unknown men attempted to kidnap her on October 26, 2000. . . . Furthermore, she alleges that George Bush ordered to show pressure on her to the point, when she commits suicide” (http://www.drizzten.com/blog/2002/12/).

“One of those very least were George Bush’s personal complicity in the death (murder to be precise) of my friend Margie Schoedinger in September of 2003” (Leola McConnell (Nevada Progressive Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010). http://leolaforussenate.blogspot.com/2008/02/leola-mcconnell-for-us-senate.html).

Leola McConnell is correct: George W. Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Margie Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder.

George W. Bush is a racist hate criminal and hates black people (indicated at andrewyu-jenwang.blogspot.com).

BEWARE: If the president of the United States hates one for whatever reasons, he can continuously criminally stalk one to the point that one cannot get away from it, and one ultimately commits suicide in desperation to escape—he can murder people in this way.

George W. Bush is getting away with his murder of Margie Schoedinger—with no sheriff, court, or prosecutor to uphold the rule of law.

George W. Bush’s method of murdering Margie Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.

George W. Bush should confess, come out with the names of all of the people whom he murdered in the disgusting way he murdered Margie Schoedinger, undergo execution, and accordingly find himself at the intersection where he would be free.

(There are thousands of copies of the information above on the Internet. It exists very extensively in all major search engines. Please feel free to go to any major search engine, type “George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her,” and hit “Enter.”)
