Steele refers to members of the Obama administration as ‘numb nuts.’

During his guest-hosting gig on Bill Bennett’s radio show this morning, RNC Chairman Michael Steele commented on the Wall Street Journal report that the Obama administration plans to appoint a “Special Master for Compensation” to ensure that companies receiving federal bailout funds are abiding by executive-pay guidelines. Echoing the common conservative criticism of the Obama administration’s use of so-called “czars,” Steele wondered aloud, “can the people appoint a czar to make sure these numb nuts don’t do what they’re doing?” Listen here:

Transcript:

STEELE: And I think the president has now announced yet another czar. We probably have more czars in the United States right now then they’ve ever had in the entire Russian bureacracy going back to the days of the czars. But yet we have another czar that the president has who’s going to oversee, I believe, how we spend the money. I think that’s a, I remember hearing something about that, which I found to be somewhat fascinating. They, what do they call, they’re appointing a special master for compensation to ensure that companies receiving federal bailout funds are abiding by executive pay guidelines. Oh, ok that’s right, they want to make sure that nobody’s getting paid more than they’re supposed to be getting paid. Is that the goal here? So so, can the people appoint a czar to make sure these numb nuts don’t do what they’re doing because this is…ugh…Paul. Let’s just go to Michigan. Paul, what’s up man?

In answer to your question Mr. Steele, yes, the people can “appoint a czar to keep the numb nuts from doing what they are doing.” The process for such an appointment is called an “election”. We held one last year. 156. Xisithrus says:

I understand you have to take such a view, LTTH, because everything you say and do goes against your belief. Jesus was spiritualistic, you are materialistic. Jesus was about sharing with his people but you are taking from the people. Jesus was against war, yet you work for things of war. Jesus didnt see money as a sign of success, you think of money as success. Jesus was about love and your clearly biased against a great deal of your own kind.

Its okay, LTTH, you dont have to pretend anymore and you need not put others down so you feel better about your hypocrisy.

Its okay, really. Call us names all you want, blame us for everything.

We probably have more czars in the United States right now then they’ve ever had in the entire Russian bureacracy going back to the days of the czars.

Why, yes. They only had one Czar at the time in Russia, and it could hardly have been described as a mere bureaucratic position.

Wait, he’s saying that they shouldn’t appoint someone to oversee everything, they should appoint a czar instead? Isn’t that the same thing? Or does he want a czar overseeing the appointments to prevent people from being appointed to oversee something dumb? I don’t get it.

On another point, I think “Special Master” is even sillier than “Czar” as titles go.

I just don’t like the name, and I wish that one guy had never started it… who was that again?

But “czars” actually have real titles other than that. For example, the head of the DEA is called the “Drug Czar,” but his pay stub says “Administrator of Drug Enforcement.” As such, many of them do have to be confirmed by the Senate. It’s not a separate position, and none of those are equivalent to a Cabinet-level post.

Amen. But Republicans are far too cynical to ever realize that.

    Nope. Not at all.

BTW. There are some signs the economy has begun to stabilize, though recovery is some time down the road. This is especially important because once the economy starts to improve we can start seeing a return on all that “spending”.

Even one czar would provide the opportunity for the president to govern without accountability -I am not sure why “so many” have you in such a tissy.

At any rate, lack of accountability, secrecy, transparency, and the attempt on the part of the executive to claim special privileges were not a conservative concern under Bush. Quite the contrary, it was something you mouthbreathers cheered as “leadership” even though us “libruls” warned it was all a very, very bad idea.

But, oh no -you conservatives were too absorbed in your cult of the Bush personality and them “libruls” were driven by Bush Derangement Syndrome, and wanted “Merca” to fail in Afghanistan and appease them evil Muslims…

“Accountability to Congress”, you say? Didn’t Bush claim his executive orders could bypass Congress to establish a warantless surveillance program, as you morons cheered him on?

    Oh, I forgot again: IOKIYA

    Romartin16985 Says:

And to believe that our current economic crisis requires the enormous spending, and of course taxing, to come out of it defies everything we already know about how increased taxes and spending affect revenue to the government, inflation, and unemployment.

When the economy is doing well, reduce spending and draw down the deficit. When the economy is doing poorly, increase spending, and use the deficit as a stimulus cushion. Taxes should remain at a constant, progressive rate. That simple prescription will result in steady and significant economic growth forever.

A comparison of the history of all industrialized economies the world over demonstrates this. Wherever it has been applied, conservative economic theory has always led to massive collapse. You’d think a lemming would wonder why there aren’t any old lemmings around; you’d also think a wingnut would wonder why their “ideas” have never actually worked when tried.

    .

    Romartin16985 Says:

Even the Chinese laughed at Geithner as he explained Obamanomics.

Actually, they laughed at his comment that “Chinese assets [in U.S. Treasury Bonds] are very safe.” Link. Not encouraging… but Obama isn’t the one who drove the economy into the toilet.

Now that the tables are turned, they are oh so concerned with respect for the law, the Constitution, and the reach of the federal government.

Remember in ‘96 when the R’s wanted to push through a line-item veto so that when Dole won he’d be able to hack up budget bills after passage? They were so sure they had the election in the bag, they crammed it right through. That gave Clinton the line-item veto to use against their pork projects, until they had to go running to a judge to get it declared unconstitutional two years later. Heh heh. Good times.

I think everyone should be clear on what this phrase really means. It really should be stated as “they serve the nation at the pleasure of the president.”

The Bush Administration treated it as “they serve President Bush at his pleasure.” Their loyalty was to the man, not to the office or to the nation. This is, IMHO, the primary reason why they failed at governing.

Our lame trolls are blaming Obama because miracles haven’t been achieved in 4 months — they are so pathetic and desperate, they make me laugh at their stupidity.

For the sake of argument let’s assume that what you say is true. And just for fun let’s toss in the bit about Obama not being born in the U.S. and thus ineligible to hold the office of POTUS. It’s safe to assume that the Bush administration, the FBI and the DOJ had access to any information that you have and more. You can only conclude that this information was known and they simply chose to do nothing about it, or they themselves were part of a vast conspiracy to perpetrate the largest election fraud in US history
    .
Bush knew, yet did all he could to make the presidential transition go smoothly. Chief Justice Roberts knowingly administered the oath of office to someone he knew to be ineligible. Cheney knew. Gonzales knew. etc. etc.

You’d better go pick up a supply of adult diapers and put some on because you’re living in a world right out of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and you are so screwed.

  263. Romartin16985 says:

    leftside -

No I’m absolutely not jealous of liberals. Don’t you know that survey’s have shown that conservatives are happier?

I do have my own opinions, liberals just don’t like them. Liberals know deep down that people must, and do, live their lives in a conservative manner, and liberalism always fails eventually.

When the economy is hurting, people tighten their belts. They don’t go on a spending spree as our government is, convincing the gullible that we must spend like never before in order to cure all our problems. (By the way, the stimulus spending was supposed to keep unemployment under 8%).

The public knows that diminishing the private sector in order to give government more control over our lives never worked for any other country and it won’t work for us.

The public knows that we must defend ourselves against those who wish our country harm by showing strength first and being proud of the good that we’ve done in the world.

The public knows that politicians will always have political agendas. Putting them in charge of anything, be it our schools or health care, will result in a system with conflicting goals that include getting those in charge re-elected.

So no, I’m quite happy as a conservative as I know that the truth always finds a way.

  264. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

    Romartin16985 Says:

With all due respect, you may see the world that way, but many of us don’t. We are, quite literally, more open-minded than conservatives. Your side and our side each view the world through different lenses.

We just believe that our lens does not distort things as much as yours appears to do.

  265. Romartin16985 says:

    Wayne,

You are deluding yourself. You think you’re open minded when all you are is closing your mind to realities. Maybe you believe that the fact that life is unfair (it is) is something to be rectified by the government. What you don’t consider is that we are all born different, different aptitudes, desires, energy levels, etc., and it’s up to each of us to make the most of what we have. We will get out of life what we put into it. If we decide to put in less effort, we will end up with less. The government can only help in striving to provide fairness in opportunity to all, while providing for those of us who are truly disabled in some way.

Just look what liberalism has done to California and New York.

Your lens is opaque, and you don’t even know it. Or maybe you do, but you just feel better about yourself by believing you are helping people when all you’re really doing is ensuring them a crappy life of crumbs doled out by the government.

  266. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

Just look what liberalism has done to California and New York.

Yes, it’s helped some people survive who would have died otherwise.

And I think it is you who have closed your mind to the possibilities for all in a liberal society.

  267. ElBruce says:

    Marie Says:

Our lame trolls are blaming Obama because miracles haven’t been achieved in 4 months…

Apparently they take it quite literally when they refer to him as “the messiah.” Which makes the fact that they also want to crucify him a matter of some concern and alarm.

    .

    Romartin16985 Says:

No I’m absolutely not jealous of liberals. Don’t you know that survey’s have shown that conservatives are happier?

    Citation please?

Never mind, I Googled it myself. Although I found many references to the same study, there’s just that one. It seems to have focused entirely on quizzing people about whether people were upset or concerned about economic inequality in America today. Turns out conservatives are perfectly happy with the fact that many people live in abject poverty, and liberals seem to have a problem with it. Shocking! Therefore, they conclude that conservatives must be happier than liberals. Pretty crappy methodology; they would have gotten different results if they’d talked about abortion or gay marriage. Also, being concerned with improving the lot of the world is hardly the same thing as being miserable.

    .

    Romartin16985 Says:

When the economy is hurting, people tighten their belts. They don’t go on a spending spree as our government is…

    The government =/= a “people.”

    Macroeconomics =/= microeconomics.

Seriously, y’all’s understanding of economic principles is kindergarten-level at best.

    .

    Romartin16985 Says:

What you don’t consider is that we are all born different, different aptitudes, desires, energy levels, etc., and it’s up to each of us to make the most of what we have. We will get out of life what we put into it. If we decide to put in less effort, we will end up with less.

I have met a lot of lazy conservatives. I have met a lot of lazy conservatives who got money from mums and daddums. I have met a lot of intelligent and extremely hard-working poor people, people who have done back-breaking work every day that conservatives could never manage to do for an hour, who hardly ever get anywhere.

If the U.S. economy were essentially meritocratic, then your argument might hold up. But it’s not. Now, I’m not saying we should take away all of the rich peoples’ property and give it to the poor; I’ll grant that some inequality is in fact necessary for incentive. But acting like all rich people morally deserve everything they have, and the corollary that all poor people are lazy sacks of sh!t, is offensive to common sense and patently insulting to millions and millions of perfectly good, smart, hard-working Americans who just haven’t caught a break.

If you would further your case, then you should be doing everything to guarantee that opportunity for all is being maximized in this country (as liberals do) rather than waving a magic wand and claiming it’s already there (as conservatives do).

  268. Romartin16985 says:

    Bruce

Maybe you’re projecting your own feelings, as I NEVER said all poor people are lazy.

You are the one here who is biased. A very small percentage of the so called rich got their money from an inheritance. Most have sacrificed and worked HARD to get where they are. This is a fact that just doesn’t compute with liberals, as it gets in the way of their fake concern.

Liberals do not have a monopoly on caring for those less fortunate, and striving to maximize equality of opportunity, as you also erroneously believe. Those evil rich donate and pay taxes out the ying yang. Maybe you’re jealous?

  269. Sesli chat says:
