Rodeskawler Says:
Maybe Limbaugh can visit Iraq and tell our troops how much he wants their commander in chief to fail.

unfortunately, they probably hear it, as the slug is on armed forces radio - and i don't think his bullshit is balanced with a truth teller... franken tried, but he's no longer on the air...

maybe limpbone's show is edited somehow... i'm not sure...

Colbert shows what those people who claim to be conservatives are all about. In many cases he is pointing out how non-conservative the actions of these people are, and exposes those lame excuses for the lies that they are.

One example if that conservatives would never be in favor of no-bid contracts that ensure we will spend a lot more in return for a lot less than if there was actual competition.

Colbert points out the irony or hypocrisy of a Republican party that claims to be conservative while doing very non-conservative things. He also points out when Democrats are being less than truthful.

Eventually Americans will learn that those labeled "progressive" in the media are actually all that is left of the watchdog media.

The only side they take is that of the facts and how these facts deny or confer justice to the most of us.

I'm sure the troops in Iraq will appreciate some humor, and seeing someone from the media (tongue in cheek as it is) paying them some attention. Has the MSM forgotten about them? I don't have television reception, and wouldn't watch it if I did, but from glancing at Reuters, it appears that there isn't much news coverage of Iraq these days.

Saw this on Colbert's Twitter page:

Support our troops is no longer a slogan. It's an action. #tweettoremind http://bit.ly/remind
6:49 AM May 25th from web

Colbert routinely uses his platform to push a number of charities and service organizations, many of them having to do with supporting soldiers overseas and veterans at home.

I have seen none of the chickenhawks doing anything similar, or at least not so often.

Jimmy Big Bucks Says:

Colbert has made a living mocking anything conservative.

This is true. He does an excellent job of it.

.

Jimmy Big Bucks Says:

Colbert mocks people who support the war. The troops support the war and are giving their lives for it.

Many of the troops don't support what they're doing, but they do it nonetheless, as is their duty. There's a significant difference between respecting soldiers and respecting the mission they were given. You don't seem to understand this, so I'll try to break it down philosophically for you:

1. In signing up for the military, soldiers hand over (most of) their personal moral agency to the Commander in Chief. That is to say, he can order them to kill people and they have to do so. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect and peaceful world, so it is necessary that we have people who are willing to do this.

2. Essentially, the Commander in Chief carries all of the moral agency for all of the people who have sworn to take orders from him. Thus, if he uses it for good, then he deserves thousands of times the praise of an individual; if he uses it for evil, then he deserves thousands of times the scorn. However, such praise or scorn does not fall on the soldiers themselves, as they have transferred (most of) their personal moral agency to the Commander in Chief.

3. Ordering the troops to go to war (to kill and risk being killed) is an evil act if the war serves no purpose in protecting the U.S. and/or if the stated causes of the war are lies. Bush did this.

4. Because of Bush's choice, not only have many Iraqis been needlessly slaughtered, but many soldiers have needlessly died as well. Many more have needlessly been forced to kill others, which is something they'll have to deal with all their lives. Many more have been needlessly maimed or otherwise harmed (PTSD, Gulf War Syndrome, etc). All of them will ultimately have to deal with the fact that due to Bush's choice they committed acts of war for no good reason. No matter how much propoganda the right spews, a good reverse-justification for Iraq will never surface. It would be one thing if they could come home knowing that they had done what was necessary to protect the U.S. But it's a horrible thing for them to have to deal with doing such things for no other reason than because Bush felt like making them do it.

5. Opposing sending our troops to prosecute an unjust war constitutes supporting our troops in that we condemn forcing them to suffer the consequences of war needlessly.

Why do you hate U.S. soldiers?

You're the kind of person you meet at certain dismal dull affairs.
Center of a crowd, talking much too loud running up and down the stairs.
Well, it seems to me that you have seen too much in too few years.
And though you've tried you just can't hide your eyes are edged with tears.

You better stop, look around, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here it comes. Here comes your nine-teenth nervous breakdown.

When you were a child you were treated kind
But you were never brought up right.
You were always spoiled with a thousand toys but still you cried all night.
Your mother who neglected you owes a million dollars tax.
And your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax.

You better stop, look around, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes,
Here it comes. Here comes your nine-teenth nervous breakdown.

It's summer and we have an infestation of young teen trolls. This one is a malicious troll. It's very young, and its only intention is to get a rise out of people. It has no intellectual interest, and no vested interest in politics. In its little world it scores biggest when it makes the least effort to get a response and gets one. The more thoughtful the response, the bigger it scores because it's not making any effort.

Here's a profile from a study done at the University of Texas which I have highlighted

"Malicious" trolls tended towards strong destructive actions such as spamming and excessive profanity. They showed no tendencies towards any of the Meyers-Briggs known types, instead only indicating significant personality defect PTypes such as histrionics and compensatory narcissism. Other issues were raised with such surprising regularity that one must conclude that virtually all Malicious trolls have both erectile dysfunction and suffer frequent enuresis The average IQ of this group was 83.

You see it don't you? The expression "troll piss" is right on.

Another thing unique to this group was a concentration of ages not apparent in the others. The youngest of these was 12, the oldest 16, and the average being 15.27 years of age. As is to be expected of this age group, they continued to show a markedly absent sense of maturity and a significantly diminished grasp of rudimentary social skills.

I've been wondering why, why, why. Clearly school is out for the summer.

The author also had the opportunity to interview a former Malicious, who chose to go by the moniker "Vlad" in our ICQ discussions. Vlad had stopped trolling some 10 years ago, yet according to the MMPI-2, all of the previously mentioned personality disorders were still present, and IQ had actually decreased..

Pity. We can see them actually getting dumber as they post, the decline is so marked.

Pre-adolescent conditions were strongly marked by cases of Munchausen syndrome[9], characterized by the feigning of the symptoms of a disease or injury in order to undergo diagnostic tests, hospitalization, or medical or surgical treatment. They frequently found reason to stay home from school and watch Captain Kangaroo.

The first three troll types also were preoccupied with members of the opposite sex at a young age, often finding themselves being punished for playing "doctor". The malicious type, on the other hand, maintained a firm belief in girls having "cooties" until well into their late teens.[10]

Which explains a lot, including such gems as "MySpace whores".

Anyone wanting to stereotype liberals has a plethora of sources---it's the stuff of urban myth. So how a young troll comes up with this stuff is no mystery. It's easy material for an activity that requires almost no effort on the part of the troll.

Why TP? I'm thinking TP gets the infestations we've been getting lately, not because of our political content, but because of low moderation.

Death threat? Nope. The troops have little tolerance for a little dweeb who mocks their efforts at every turn

Speaking of the USO. My Dad and uncles who served in WW2 all had stories of USO comedians who kept their audiences in stitches by "mocking" their commanders. I also seem to recall that FDR gave Bob Hope explicit consent to make fun of him. It seems that troops in harms way get a moral boost from laughing at those who put them in harms way.
