On the Fox News this week, host Bill O’Reilly complained that he was “shocked that an Army recruiter in Arkansas got gunned down by some Muslim terrorist in the United States, and I can’t find any info about it.” Purporting to show “blatant media bias in America,” he criticized CNN specifically, claiming the network had largely ignored the story. According to O’Reilly, “only Anderson Cooper at 10:00 covered the story. No one else.” However, yesterday, CNN’s Rick Sanchez took O’Reilly to task for his misbegotten “media bias” claims, showing a lengthy clip of day-long CNN coverage of the shooting:
SANCHEZ: Bill O’Reilly says he only saw it once. And since he only saw it once, well then, that must be the truth. It doesn’t matter what really happened, it doesn’t matter what the record shows. All that matters is what Bill thinks he saw.
Watch it:
Last night on The Factor, Bill O’Reilly announced he had a “rare correction” to make. O’Reilly said that a “snide, surly guy on CNN” (Rick Sanchez) corrected the record about CNN’s coverage. “I was wrong. My apologies to CNN,” O’Reilly said. Watch it:
Orielly apologizes, it must be cold in hell today.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:06 amGood for snide, surly, sniveling, snarling, sneering Bile-O.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:08 amSnide and surley? Rick Sanchez? Projecting much?
O’ Reilly’s acting this way cuz he’s scared to death that Holder’s going to nail him on the Tiller death.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:09 amO’lier is still a worthless peice of shit.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:10 amSorry to say, but our wonderful Supreme Court ruled a few years back, that violent hate speech is protected speech. The only way is for the family of Tiller to sue O’Reilly in civil court.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:15 amAgain, O’Reilly again proves to rational people what a real a-hole he is.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:19 am“snide, surly guy on CNN”
June 6th, 2009 at 9:20 amdid widdle biwwie get his feewings hurt? too damn bad. you’re lucky sanchez didn’t send a stalker after your ass like you’re known to do after receiving “no comment” to your phone calls.
Glad he gave credit to his fellow third graders… “My bad” which makes him as sincere as his phony apology. It must piss him off to make a “rare” mistake. Yes, he’s out of control!
June 6th, 2009 at 9:22 amOne of the problems with the “liberal media bias” talking point is that the media does not have a liberal bias. But since the fascist wingnuts have positioned themselves against a fictional liberal media, the actual media becomes their enemy. That is, any media that is not directly under their control.
I am pleased that Billo decided to attack CNN, and that CNN showed that it still has more journalistic integrity than FOX News or Billo.
As for Billo’s retraction, I have never seen a less humble apology from anyone, ever. I have seen playground children that threw stones apologize with more sincerity. I know if one of those playground kids that threw stones called me snide and surly because I expected them to apologize for their misbehavior, I would not accept their apology, because they didn’t really mean it.
To top it off, Billo is now going to have his FOX crew do a “comparison” of how CNN and FOX covered a story. I hope TP takes a look at FOX’s comparison, I expect it will be a target rich environment.
It’s not news that FOX thinks stories of Muslims committing violent acts should be the lead story every day, because that fits their worldview. I wonder if there are any news stories that FOX did not cover as well as CNN did, because those stories did not fit the fascist wingnut reality.
I smell the potential for some future TP articles brewing here.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:29 amwhy is it cancervatives are always playing “the perpetual victim”?
June 6th, 2009 at 9:30 amHe’ll never apologize to Shawn Hornbeck for saying he had “fun” at the hands of his kidnapper who confessed to repeatedly raping the boy.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:30 amHe’ll never apologize for being part in the killing of Dr. Tiller either. One day he will wake up and see the blood on his hands, and no matter how hard he tries he will never be able to wash it off.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:36 amBozotheneoclown Says:
Criminals often try to excuse their crimes by trying to appear to a jury as somehow the victim, rather than as someone deserving of punishment. My mother didn’t love me, my dog died, my father abused me, the kids at school bullied me, etc.
It’s my belief that the fascist Republican Party is a pseudo crime organization, similar to other crime syndicates throughout history. It makes sense that they would want to paint themselves as victims, because of their rampant, pervasive criminality.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:39 amWanna’ bet his boss at Fox pushed this little correction? Can’t risk their premiere talent being revealed on tape as an amateur hack.
And that “mistake” had “amateur” written all over it.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:40 amo’lilie the puke will never change, he is such a mean spirited child….Guess he’s doing his best to try and be as relevent and evil as limpdick to the reich wingers..

Read this morning there is another noted nut job by the name of Murry floating around after making threats against our president when he was withdrawing money from his bank….All of us should be aware and report any weirdo these day’s…P. B. & J
June 6th, 2009 at 9:41 amSometimes it’s really difficult to decide which right-wing nut job I dislike most…Boss-hog Rush, Billo, Hannity etc.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:43 amI guess it depends which one opens his pie hole last lol.
“It doesn’t matter what really happened, it doesn’t matter what the record shows. All that matters is what Bill thinks he saw.”
So true for EVERY right wing pundit! Just repeat this tape whenever one of them says something stupid. Oh wait — it would have to run continuously…
June 6th, 2009 at 9:44 amI am sure that Rick Sanchez can now sleep contentedly knowing that this
June 6th, 2009 at 9:45 aminconsequential piece of dog s hit has apologized
A Republican apologizing is like a dog walking on its hind legs.
One does not expect it to be done well. One is simply surprised to see it done at all.
(With apologies to Samuel Johnson.)
Swine!
June 6th, 2009 at 9:50 amO’Racist will now spend the next few days on his show telling everyone how fair and balanced he is. Excuse me while I go puke.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:52 amFor the record, “apologies” that incorporate insults (IE: “snide, surly guy on CNN”) are NOT apologies.
Bill O’Liely is still an a$$hat.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:52 amI thought the trolls would be here to defend their guy, but then I remembered there was a great troll gathering this morning so they could kill a few more brain cells.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:55 amBillo’s only saw the story once on CNN, and therefore he jumped to the conclusion that there is “blatant (liberal) media bias in America”. Since CNN did not show the story just once, I guess that means that Billo must owe yet another retraction in that there isn’t this mythical liberal media bias the wingnuts keep trying to peddle.
Billo is just following Rovian wingnut protocol. Facts are not important, but propaganda is. Keep spewing fascist wingnut propaganda talking points, and to hell with the truth.
Wingnuts like Billo base their reality on belief, not on fact. Billo believed CNN only ran the story once because he only saw it run once. In Billo’s alternate reality, his biased belief system trumps reality, unless someone publicly rubs his nose in it.
This is typical for most people that are strongly religious. If you believe that the world is flat, you might be willing to torture and kill people that disagree with you. If you believe that certain woman were witches, you might be willing to burn them at the steak or drown them to see if they would float. If you believe you can get useful information from suspected terrorists, you might be willing to torture them to death to get it.
It does not surprise me that, given the Christian religious fundamentalism of the fascist Republican Party, Billo views reality through the kaleidoscope of belief.
June 6th, 2009 at 9:57 amangels81 Says:
I thought the trolls would be here to defend their guy, but then I remembered there was a great troll gathering this morning so they could kill a few more brain cells.
Yeah, P-brain was up all night playing his (tube)sockpuppets but he ran out of meth, so had to get some sleep.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:00 amO’Reilly’s handlers must’ve rung him up on the green room hotline and pinged him pretty damn hard to force him to back off. Truth is, CNN is Fox’s longtime partner in the whole Status Quo driven “good cop – bad cop” information game perpetrated on the public. No ned to drive a wedge into the scam that might allow any “outside” media in who may start telling the truth (like Al Jazeera, eg).
June 6th, 2009 at 10:02 amWhat appalls me the most is the O’Reilly thought he could get away with this — because so many times in the past he has.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:04 amSo a young man who had converted to Islam shoots two at a military recruiting center. O’Reilly sees one person on one channel do one segment and concludes and reports, as fact, that what he saw was the only airing of the news because of the biased liberal media conspiracy.
O’Lielly is like the 2-year-old who believes that, when he closes his eyes, no one can see him. If Billy didn’t see it, it wasn’t reported! What, no researchers or fact-checkers? Oh, what the hell am I talking about – this is FuxNews.
PEACE
June 6th, 2009 at 10:06 amWith his ambush tactics, and weakly-sourced news stories, Bill’s program most resembles a badly-conceived reality tv version of a political talkshow, complete with predictably hyper-egotistical host, inconsequential, inane blather, and amateurish, low-brow intellectual constructs, that disinform while they entertain, on the lowest of emotional levels.
He’s Tim Stack, without the class.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:13 amYou “insects” know Billdo is going to have his panties in a wad after reading this thread. So excuse me if I go for the gusto.
F-U Billdo, for being complicit in selling a war that has killed 4,000+ Americans.
F-U Billdo, because you said you would apologize after one year.
F-U Billdo, because you kept extending your apology date into 2 years.
F-U Billdo, because you said you would never trust the Chimperor’s administration again, yet you continued to label “anti-American” anyone not kissing the Chimp’s rear like you did.
F-U Billdo, because you refused to admit torture for what it is and you and your stupid viewers STILL don’t have the balls to admit it.
I could go on, Billdo, but I will only add one more.
F-U Billdo, for sending an ambush crew after Miss Amanda Terkel.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:20 amThank you SANCHEZ for the honorable smack down of evil extremist O’LIElly!
Here is more proof that O’Lielly always spews lies, hatred and stupidity every time he opens his right wing mouth, continually confirming his label of , “Wingnut Weasel, Evil Extremist Extraordinaire”.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:25 amThank you, Rick Sanchez! We need people like you.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:40 amspencers mom, I think you have an unfair advantage in understanding O’Lielly’s behavior. You have recent experience in dealing with a child.
Granted, yours is undoubtedly more mature and intelligent, but still…

You can’t blame poor O’Reilly. He’s a Republican, which means all he knows how to do is pull crap out of his butt and fling it.

How childish can he get.

June 6th, 2009 at 11:33 am
This is what Bill-0 thinks is an apology?
Fox will always be a right-wing propaganda machine, and the sooner the others call them on it and viewers begin to get the drift, the better off they will be for it.
Frankly, I am pleased to see this kind of mud-slinging between cable news media — when it finally all settles down, they may consider devoting their efforts into actually reporting news and keeping viewers informed.
Oh, for the days when news was considered a “public service” and not a money-making enterprise. If only we could get that kind of public service news from the local channels, it would be a good thing.
June 6th, 2009 at 11:36 amI truly believe that the only reason Bill-o’s ratings are what they are is because the Fox channel is ubiquitous — wherever you go, Fox is on the TV — it is not a “premium” channel on cable. In my area, it is even on network, for those who don’t have cable TV.
June 6th, 2009 at 11:41 amCNN has lost its compass in trying to compete with Fox; MSNBC is out there by itself, but it is considered “premium” channel, and therefore not free on basic cable.
If Bill O’Reilly was sincerely apologetic for the horrendous damage that his lies and shrill propaganda has caused democracy and this republic; he would resign from fox news, donate all his wealth to true charities for the poor, and spend the remainder of his life working as a sanitation worker.
June 6th, 2009 at 11:45 amWhen is CNN going to report about the Sexual Predator Bill O’s stalking of women?
Now for some Fox style reporting:
Bill O, the clown, could he be responsible for the Recruiter shooting? It might be his constant attacks about muslims on his show has inflammed some into violence.
I report, you decide.
June 6th, 2009 at 11:47 amBillo the Domestic Terrorist playing nice? I hope he gets locked up with the rest of his psycho anti-Choice terror cell. F.U. Billo you have much more to apologize for than this.
June 6th, 2009 at 11:56 amLast night on The Factor, Bill O’Reilly announced he had a “rare correction” to make. O’Reilly said that a “snide, surly guy on CNN” (Rick Sanchez) corrected the record about CNN’s coverage. “I was wrong. My apologies to CNN,” O’Reilly said.
************************************************************
Was some sort of monumental discovery made in the field of porcine aviation during the past few days? It must have been — O’Reilly actually admitted that something he said was wrong! I guess that when I go to see my parents in a couple of weeks, the flight crew of my plane will need to look out for pigs as well as geese…
That being said, for pity’s sake…even in the midst of delivering a (very grudging) apology, O’Reilly couldn’t stop himself from simultaneously portraying himself as the victim of an attack and launching a counterstrike at Rick Sanchez as being “snide [and] surly.” Ironically, by doing so, the only thing which O’Reilly really proves with this show of poor sportsmanship that he’s still suffering from an apparently incurable case of Freudian projection. Only someone with an ego as fragile as Dresden porcelain responds like this. If this doesn’t show O’Reilly’s true character — or rather, his lack thereof — I don’t know what does. I’ll concede O’Reilly this much (and only this much) — he did at least make an effort to apologize (which is more than I would have ever expected from him) — but it’s nowhere nearly enough to make up for the fact that he distorts the facts on a regular basis. O’Reilly is entitled to his own opinion, of course — but not his own facts, as Sanchez quite rightly pointed out. If O’Reilly is really sorry for having misrepresented (and maligned) CNN — not matter how unintentional it might, and I’m using that word deliberately, have been — then perhaps he ought to put more thought into how he chooses to express himself in future.
Aw, who am I kidding? He won’t do that — he’s only sorry that he got caught, not that he misrepresented the facts…
June 6th, 2009 at 12:05 pmAn “apology” containing a description of the other party as “snide and surly” is no apology at all — but it’s the best anyone will ever get out of the Bildo.
Cheers, Rick Sanchez!
Of course, CNN will now join MSNBC as one of Bildo’s evil empires in need of crushing…
Well done, Rick Sanchez!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:10 pmEvery one of these so called “news networks” lied for the “Bush Regime” for eight years. They lied about 9/11, Saddam Hussein, WMDs in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, Bush going AWOL during Vietnam, the election results between Bush and Gore, the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, etc, etc……
They are all liars.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:13 pmQue the idiotic trolls!
June 6th, 2009 at 12:31 pmSo, O’Reilly claims his main mistake was that he was thinking of prime time and “forgot” to mention it. Personally, I don’t believe that. I think that was just something he thought up after the fact in a lame effort to still appear to be correct.
I agree that this was a very insincere non-apology apology. If he felt any contrition at all, he wouldn’t have delivered the “rare correction” in such a “snide, surly” tone of voice.
For crying out loud, O’Reilly, Rick Sanchez is not Keith Olbermann. You could have mentioned him by name. Instead, you came off looking even more childish and petty than you normally do when people prove you wrong.

June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 pmSee, wipey, you don’t get to demand “examples” if you’re not willing to play by the same rules.
That’s called… hypocrisy.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:35 pmWayne Ant Schneider, you got it exactly correct. O’reilly originally said that CNN didn’t cover the story “all day.” Then, when Sanchez corrects the record, O’Reilly says he only meant prime time.
O’Reilly lies even when he’s trying to correct his previous lies.
June 6th, 2009 at 12:38 pmI don’t know why we should be shocked that you have no proof. It’s how you roll.

I’d venture to guess he was the one obnoxious student that would brown nose the teacher and ask moronic questions—-causing the rest of the class to despise him. Just guessing. He is a cowardly hypicrite who doesn’t deserve a soapbox. Unfortunately he has one and a lot of people actually take him seriously. A poor reflection on a large part of society.

June 6th, 2009 at 12:58 pmwipey thinks that posting a complaint letter from the ADL somehow proves that “O’Reilly is 20 times the man that olbermann is”.
wipey fails to realize a few things:
1. the thread is not about Olbermann
2. wipey did not make any claim relating to specific acts of any kind. wipey simply claimed that “O’Reilly is 20 times the man that olbermann is”. Whether this was meant to refer to weight, BMI, net worth, education, number of Peabody Awards or any other objective criteria was not specified by wipey.
3. O’Reilly made an error of fact. This embarrassing mistake has been ignored by wipey in his frantic efforts to defend his hero by denigrating his nemesis.
4. again, the thread is not about Olbermann.
5. O’Reilly’s “snide and surly apology” has already been identified several times for its classlessness and lack of contrition
6. and finally, the thread is not about Olbermann.
And still wipey has failed to live up to his own boastful blather.
Not even a little bit of a shocker.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:03 pmZoo, given the unremitting nature of the stupidity, I’d guess that lead paint chips played a part.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:05 pmIsn’t billo’s anger really over the fact the news media did not muster up enough breaking news and outrage of this story to drown out the impressive and intelligent manner in which President Obama is handling himself over sears?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:05 pmWTF does the ADL or Keith Olbermann have to do with the fact that O’Reilly made yet another ignorant, fact-less claim about another network that was easily disproved? Is someone of inferior intellect trying to make a point about something?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:08 pmI wouldn’t give CNN too much credit. This was an obvious whopper that was easy to refute.

June 6th, 2009 at 1:17 pmI wonder what Billo has to say about these Christo-Facist-Extremist/terrorists of the American Taliban?
1-Scott Roeder, deranged republican, shot and killed Dr. Tiller in the name of God.
2-James D. Cummings, a ultra right wing republican and American Nazi sympathizer, who was murdered by his abused wife had radio active material in his basement to make a dirty bomb to use on his fellow Americans.
3-Jim D. Adkisson, a right wing republican shot and killed two people in a Church his wife attended.
4-Eric Robert Rudolph, ultra right wing republican also known as the Olympic Park bomber, set off a bomb in Olympic Park, Atlanta, Georgia and has also guilty of bombing abortion clinics across the South, killing two Americans and injuring at least 150 other people.
5-Timothy McVeigh, ultra right winger, guilty of bombing the Alfred P. Murrah building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 innocent men, women and children.
Should we fear the America Taliban more than the Taliban and Al Qaida? Are Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Hal Turner, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Glen Beck just as guilty as those who promote what the Taliban and Al Qaida do?
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 pmBillo: “I’m sorry I hit you with a rock, but it was your own fault because you were stupid enough to stand in the way.”
Good grief; what a colossal embarrassment he is to sane people everywhere.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:18 pmBut…Fox is the number one news channel, right? What is Bill afraid of by criticizing them…afraid that the precious ratings of his precious network might start slipping?
Hey, Bill: you need to worry about your own sorry ass instead of openly criticizing the other news channels. Besides, it’s unprofessional to do so, something I think you’d be the first to agree with when hosts from other networks criticize you.
June 6th, 2009 at 1:19 pmFox entertainment host Glen Beck recently admitted on ‘The View’ that he never fact checks his stories and I am sure that Bill O’Lielly doesn’t either. Fact check?, why waste time with facts when the ignorant viewers of the Fox entertainment channel believes every word of bullsh*t that is spewed by the likes of O’Lielly, Beck, Hannity and the three stooges from Fox & Friends?

ralph,
How do O’Reilly’s fans measure how much of a “man” someone is? Is it height, weight, hair on the head, p enis size? It can’t be “ratings” because we all know how meaningless that measurement is. By that measure, the trolls who post here couldn’t call themselves “men” at all because they have no TV shows of their own.

Those on the right never apologize or ever admit that they were wrong. To them it is a sign of weakness. Believe me I know, I have two very republican sisters.
Indeed. I have a Republican mother-in-law who will argue over the smallest things and never admit she is wrong, frequently making up lies to avoid doing so.
Example: she thinks simply turning off her TV during a thunderstorm will prevent it from being hit by lightning. I have argued with her many times that this is not true and the best thing to do is unplug it. I have even printed out information from the power company’s web site proving my point, and yet she refuses. But get this: she is quick to run and unplug her washing machine. Why? Because it may get hit by lightning.

That is sad, Bad Eye. Hilarious — but sad.
Hey, as long as she stays in denial, she wins!! I just hope she stays out of the shower and off her land line phone in a thunderstorm. Just don’t tell her yourself — she’ll never believe you. :-D

Maybe its because Bill invites guests on his show to provide an opposing viewpoint, and then proceeds to shut them up by yelling at them and telling them how wrong they are. In this manner, I suppose, he manhandles the guests, which apparently gets his fans all hot and excited.
I once commented to a BillO fan at work that Bill was a pompous ass. The friend said, no, he isn’t. I said, you are right…he isn’t pompous.

That sounds like my dad. We once watched a Bildo show together, since he insisted I’d never actually seen Bildo doing his wonderful thing.
I was cringing in horror, watching Bildo doing his verbal masturbation, and shouting down someone who sounded perfectly reasonable to me, and my dad was laughing. He thought Bildo was being funny. I could not convince him that Bildo was deadly serious.

Every one of these so called “news networks” lied for the “Bush Regime” for eight years.
“““““““““““““““““““““““““““““
Agree, although some are worse than others!
One must remember the air in America after 9/11. The culture of fear permeating from the Bush administration. The rallies and cries of nationalism and patriotism. The threat and fear of being labeled a traitor or anti-American for anyone in government or the media who dared questioned the Bush administration.
This does not excuse those in government or in the media who failed the American people by jumping on the Bush bandwagon but we must remember the control and fear the Bush administration held over everyone. We must remember how our government under the Bush administration ran our government with an iron fist. We must also remember that the mainstream media has become a subsidiary of the corporations and the government.
Check out the documentary ‘Orwell Rolls n His Grave’ which talks about what has become of our media today and how they manipulate popular opinion with their news cycles and / or distract us from the real issues. Part 1 of 11, each segment is roughly 11 minutes in length.

June 6th, 2009 at 2:26 pmThis reminds me of when Ann Coulter wrote in her stupid book, Slander about the passing of NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt:
It took the New York Times two days to deem Earnhardt’s name sufficiently important to mention it on the first page.
In reality, it was front page news in the New York Times the next day. And the mainstream media raved about Ms. Coulter’s well-documented, uber-footnote-ed book.
Comedian Al Franken and Bob Somerby of the Daily Howler were among the only media to cry foul.
Pathetic.

If the right wing is depending on the likes of him to convince people that they are right and we are wrong, they will be out of power for a very long time.
June 6th, 2009 at 2:45 pmZooey, I’ll give you another example of the ignorance from the Right. Remember the “Communist China is drilling for oil off our coast” fiasco last summer, a “fact” touted by none other than VP Dick Cheney? Talk about manipluation of the populace. Dick new he was repeating a lie, for all he had to do was confirm this with any number of sources within the government, or at the very least call up his buddies in the oil industry. And that’s what got me…he didn’t bother, because he didn’t give a damn and knew he could get away with convincing a good portion of America that we needed to “Drill, Baby, Drill.”
And it worked. Two months after Dick’s revelation and the debunking of it, a local Republican columnist in our newspaper wrote that Communist China was drilling off our coast. PO’d as I was, I wrote an e-mail and asked him what his source was. He “couldn’t remember,” and after I pointed out that his info was wrong, he agreed. I also gave him some facts on energy conservation and on additional drilling off our coast (couldn’t help myself) and suggested that due to the lie he had printed, he might want to print a retraction in his next column. Stopping short of refusing, he said that should he write a future column about energy, he’d post a correction in it.

But here’s an interesting tool I recently came across: From Wikio.com, it’s a ranking of political blogs — emanating from everywhere from living rooms, mainstream media organizations, and the White House.
…
We got a sneak peek at the latest rankings — due to be published Friday — below. It’s a fun list to analyze: Huffington Post has the top spot, with the liberal Center for American Progress’ Think Progress

I wonder why the troll doesn’t use the letter from the Veterans that wanted to meet with O’Reilly and prove to him a lot of Vets were sleeping under bridges. Of course brave Billo dodged the meeting after it was proved he was once again WRONG. At the time, the Veterans Administration had posted on their website that some 200,000 Vets were homeless. Why do people still watch this windbag?
June 6th, 2009 at 3:42 pmWhy does CNN take that kind of cheap s—?
June 6th, 2009 at 3:51 pmTo me that is detirmental to CNN’s news network.
Someone on T.V. can openly tell serious lies about another network and walk away free?
For all this two bit piece of s— to keep putting other networks down and they don’t take him to court and sue him for all he and FOX is worth, is beyond me.
Sue the bastard and let him eat his own s—.
Bill “Chickenhawk” O’Reilly is the textbook definition of projection.
1. He calls Sanchez snide and surly, overlooking that those two traits describe Bill perfectly whenever he faces tough debate.
2. He critiques CNN for not carrying some stories b/c they don’t fit with their agenda, yet O’Reilly conspicuously omits lead stories that don’t fit his: i.e. the Ted Stevens verdict, the Senate Torture Report, etc.
3. He claims there’s an evil liberal media bias and states that he is fair and runs a no spin zone, yet the republican/democrat ratio on his show is 3:1 – maybe more. (And thats not counting Bill as a conservative who usually takes the right wing position)
4. He denigrates “tabloid news” yet he always includes fluff pieces or non-news in each show, because his need for ratings trumps his self-proclaimed beliefs.
5. He chides people for name calling, then with a straight face busts into his nightly “Pinheads and Patriots” segment.
6. He proudly states that he does not speculate on his show. Clearly he is taking the “offense is the best defense” approach because he knows that people can call him out for speculation. There’s many examples of him speculating, but one of the funniest exposures of him doing it is here: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/217059/january-27-2009/bill-o-reilly-doesn-t-report-rumors

June 6th, 2009 at 6:24 pmIt’s not his fault, though. His mom worked really hard to convince him that all the kids in school were laughing with him so that he would stop coming home from school in tears every day.

The Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly
c/o Westwood One
2020 M Street, NW
Washington, DC 20036
December 8, 2004
Dear Mr. O’Reilly:
We were deeply offended, as were many of your listeners who have contacted us, at your remark to a Jewish caller on the December 3 Radio Factor that, “if you are really offended” about attempts to convert Jews to Christianity, then “you gotta go to Israel then.”
American Jews are Americans. Jews and other religious minorities are part of America’s great tradition of religious freedom. The discomfort with proselytizing, or the intrusion of Christian teachings in public schools, is a very legitimate concern.
More dangerously, your remark plays into one of the oldest anti-Semitic canards about Jews, that they are not full citizens of a country and are not entitled to all of the rights afforded to the majority. The notion that religious minorities have no place in a Christian America and should leave may be acceptable for extremists, but it is unacceptable coming from a popular and respected media commentator.
We hope that in future you will be more sensitive to these issues.
Sincerely,
Abraham H. Foxman
National Director
Oh dear. :o/ Billo – a hand-slapping from the Anti-Defamation League???? Say it ain’t sooooooooooo!!!!!
June 6th, 2009 at 7:24 pmLetters to the Editor
The Daily News February 24, 2004
To the Editor:
Bill O’Reilly is wrong to suggest that Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion of the Christ” is an accurate rendering of the four Gospels (”Lay Off Mel Gibson,” Feb. 22). Religious scholars who have seen the film state that it in fact deviates substantially from religious teachings and historical fact.
Prominent Jewish and Christian leaders are deeply troubled by Gibson’s sources for the film, which include the writings of a 19th Century anti-Semitic nun.
It is unfortunate that O’Reilly has positioned himself as an unquestioning backer of this film, while engaging in attack-dog style rhetoric against Gibson’s detractors.
Sincerely,
Joel J. Levy
New York Regional Director
Uh-oh!!! ANOTHER ONE!!!!!
Bill!!! Shame on you!!!
June 6th, 2009 at 7:25 pmO’Really “Last night on The Factor, Bill O’Reilly announced he had a “rare correction” to make. O’Reilly said that a “snide, surly guy on CNN” (Rick Sanchez) corrected the record about CNN’s coverage.”
—————————-
Nothing like a heart-felt apology prefaced with an attack on the guy who called him out on his bogus complaint. Sanchez certainly had reason to be “snide and surly” about Billo’s “rare” mistake.
June 6th, 2009 at 7:27 pmSomeone needs to ask Billo why he refers to the shooter at the recruiting station as a “Muslim terrorist”, but he does not refer to Scott Roeder as a “terrorist”.
As a matter of fact the recruiting shooter has been charged with “terrorism” and Roeder has not. Why is that? As far as I am concerned they were both equal acts of terrorism.
June 6th, 2009 at 7:44 pmO’Reilly’s misrepresentation of CNN’s coverage can only be characterized as snide – and everyone knows he’s as surly as a constipated wolverine. So his backhanded apology is not so much puzzling as it is shocking, in that he bothered to apologize at all.
June 6th, 2009 at 8:24 pmthe left pays entirely too much attention to o’reilly. The man is a complete jerk, a pompous ass, a liar, an ignoramus, a nasty prick. He has nothing of value to say. He deserves only to be ignored and left to the moronic neanderthals that watch him.
June 6th, 2009 at 8:29 pmThe only reason this correction was “rare” is that O’Reilly refuses to correct the vast majority of his misinformation (or that of his guests.)
June 6th, 2009 at 8:59 pmIt’s summer and we have an infestation of young teen trolls. This one is a malicious troll. It’s very young, and its only intention is to get a rise out of people. It has no intellectual interest, and no vested interest in politics. In its little world it scores biggest when it makes the least effort to get a response and gets one. The more thoughtful the response, the bigger it scores because it’s not making any effort.
Here’s a profile from a study done at the University of Texas which I have highlighted
“Malicious” trolls tended towards strong destructive actions such as spamming and excessive profanity. They showed no tendencies towards any of the Meyers-Briggs known types, instead only indicating significant personality defect PTypes such as histrionics and compensatory narcissism. Other issues were raised with such surprising regularity that one must conclude that virtually all Malicious trolls have both erectile dysfunction and suffer frequent enuresis The average IQ of this group was 83.
You see it don’t you? The expression “troll piss” is right on.
Another thing unique to this group was a concentration of ages not apparent in the others. The youngest of these was 12, the oldest 16, and the average being 15.27 years of age. As is to be expected of this age group, they continued to show a markedly absent sense of maturity and a significantly diminished grasp of rudimentary social skills.
I’ve been wondering why, why, why. Clearly school is out for the summer.
The author also had the opportunity to interview a former Malicious, who chose to go by the moniker “Vlad” in our ICQ discussions. Vlad had stopped trolling some 10 years ago, yet according to the MMPI-2, all of the previously mentioned personality disorders were still present, and IQ had actually decreased..
Pity. We can see them actually getting dumber as they post, the decline is so marked.
Pre-adolescent conditions were strongly marked by cases of Munchausen syndrome[9], characterized by the feigning of the symptoms of a disease or injury in order to undergo diagnostic tests, hospitalization, or medical or surgical treatment. They frequently found reason to stay home from school and watch Captain Kangaroo.
The first three troll types also were preoccupied with members of the opposite sex at a young age, often finding themselves being punished for playing “doctor”. The malicious type, on the other hand, maintained a firm belief in girls having “cooties” until well into their late teens.[10]
Which explains a lot, including such gems as “MySpace whores”.
Anyone wanting to stereotype liberals has a plethora of sources—it’s the stuff of urban myth. So how a young troll comes up with this stuff is no mystery. It’s easy material for an activity that requires almost no effort on the part of the troll.
Why TP? I’m thinking TP gets the infestations we’ve been getting lately, not because of our political content, but because of low moderation.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:02 pmMethinks O’Reilly got a corporate asswhooping. BTW, the Supreme Court did not sanction hate speech by Fox news. They sanctioned Fox lies. Lower courts have ruled that wanted posters targeting abortionists are not protected speech, and I think if Fox were taken to court O’Reilly’s targeting might be ruled as unprotected speech also.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:14 pmThe correction is rare not because O’Reilly doesn’t spout falsehoods every night, but because he rarely admits that he spouts falsehoods.
June 6th, 2009 at 10:35 pmDamn. Damn. That was like watching a rabbit try to fight a mountain lion. I’m used to seeing O’Reilly get corrected for propaganda and stupidity in onesies and twosies, but, damn, that was like wrong times 30.
June 7th, 2009 at 2:30 amIt’s starting to look like more people are learning from The Daily Show. All it takes to debunk a false attack is a collection of clips debunking it. Now that CNN has learned the trick, hopefully more responsible broadcast media will follow suit. Eventually we should be able to put the liars out of business once and for all.
June 7th, 2009 at 3:44 am“Snide and surly guy” is a perfect description of Bill O’Reilly yet Bill-O doesn’t get the irony of using those words to describe Sanchez.
