Should I assume from this, then, that Cantor thinks the phrase “domestic terrorism” is automatically a contradiction in terms? I guess the names “Theodore Kaczynski” and “Timothy McVeigh” don’t mean anything to him.

With regard to Timothy McVeigh in particular, would Cantor — or perhaps we should call him Can’t-Or? — care to explain how driving a truck filled with explosives into a building so with the intent of killing people does constitute terrorism when it’s committed by a foreigner against American citizens but somehow doesn’t constitute terrorism when it’s committed by a fellow citizen? I seem to recall that McVeigh was executed after being convicted of all eleven charges leveled against him including “use of a weapon of mass destruction” — and since Republicans have often cited weapons of mass destruction as being the primary point of concern with regard to terrorism, I think we can infer that McVeigh meets the definition of a terrorist — and we didn’t seem to have any problem dealing with him.

But while I lived in Charleston we hosted the guy accused of plotting terrorism via dirty bomb. He was held there for many, many years.
