Palin: The less money Alaska has, the better.

During a recent interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) once again criticized President Obama for “spreading the wealth” while at the same time boasting that Alaska spreads its own wealth. “We have a share of our oil resource revenue goes back to the people who own the resources. Imagine that,” she said. But somewhat shockingly, later in the interview (and in a part that did not air on Hannity’s program last night) Palin actually said that she would rather have Alaska pull in less money in oil revenues that more:

HANNITY: The price of oil is going up again. It’s not quite at $140 a barrel, but it’s certainly on its way up to $70 and $80.

PALIN: Yeah, well and I thank God it’s not at $140. You know people say, “Hey, Alaska! Eight-five percent of your state budget is based on the price of a barrel of oil. Aren’t you glad the price is going up?” I say, “No!” The fewer dollars that the state of Alaska government has, the fewer dollars we spend. And that’s good for our families and for the private sector.

Watch it:

The Mudflats writes, “The less we have, the less we spend? And here we all were worried about the economy. So exactly how much of the 85% of our state budget does she wish will go away? Inquiring Alaskan minds want to know. Welcome to the 2012 election.”

And this is why I really wish the Republican Party would run her as their Presidential candidate in 2012. I think the Democrats would take all 50 states!

  4. Pennsylvanianne says:

Maybe Palin hopes Alaska state government would have fewer dollars from big oil so we progressives could stop pointing out 1.) the obvious hypocrisy in her saying the U.S. is headed toward socialism — at the same time she is governor of the most socialist state in the United States and 2.) the crazy illogic in just about everything she says.

  5. wiley says:

The fewer dollars that the state of Alaska government has, the fewer dollars we spend.

Whaaa? It’s normal for Republicans to treat macroeconomics as if it were a family budget, but arguing that having less money is a good thing? She could have at least argued for a lower price of gas in the lower 48 if she wanted to go in that direction.

  6. Lefty Liberal says:

kasinca, I respectfully disagree. We want her ignorance on a daily basis. The more she blabbers, the more stupid she, and by association, the Republican party looks.

Disagreement noted. I think most of us have decided that she is a wingnut. The rethugs are still going after their base and she is on the same intelligence level as the base. It just becomes tiresome to read ignorance on a progressive site everyday…sort of like tolerating trolls. I agree, it should help our cause for every group of voter with an IQ above room temperature.

  9. ElBruce says:

Republicans don’t believe in goverment. Therefore, electing Republicans to government positions inevitably leads to disaster. In order to prove themselves right, they will attempt to sabotage the very government functions they are supposed to fulfill.

It would be like hiring Ralph Nader to be the CEO of General Motors. He believes their entire operation is evil, so he would probably do a bad job in the position.

The moral of the story: never vote for Republicans, for anything.

  10. Lefty Liberal says:

    kasinca,

Wingnut is actually being very kind in my opinion, but suitable for a public forum. I just look at it as comedy. Like reading Doonsbury, only funnier since it is unintentional.

And I agree it would be nice to have a site where the least intelligent people posting have triple digit IQ’s, but as long as there are Republicans, that won’t happen…

  11. hormiga brava chavez says:

Jimmy Jacka$$ – you are one stupid fella – if the Alaskan government has less money, the Alaskan people will be affected by this and have less money.

Palin sounds as dumb as paint. With a high unemployment rate and natural disasters, I do believe Alaska needs to have more funds available. She’s just grandstanding at the expense of Alaskans.

Since Sarah and her ilk believe President Obama has made America into a socialist country, then why the hell are they still here then? Huh? I thought their mantra was ‘fascism or bust’? LOL We’ll have to ask her why she stays in Socialist America.

  16. Badmoodman says:

Here’s the other nugget from Hannity’s interview:

Palin: We are the only state with a negative tax rate, where we don’t have any income, sales or property tax statewide, and yes we have a share of our oil resource revenue that goes back to the people that own the resources. Imagine that.

Hannity: And it went up higher since you’ve been the governor and you negotiated with the oil companies. That all went up so people get a bigger check.

Palin: There was a corrupt tax system up there and we had a couple of lawmakers end up in jail because of the tax system that was adopted so we cleaned it up and said we wanted a fair and equitable share of the resources that we own, and the people will share in those resource revenues that are derived.

Uh huh, and they call Obama a Socialist.

Sarah Palin is vacuous. The longer she speaks the less she can remember what it is that she has already said.

A long interview with Palin (remember Katie Couric), is like the Charlie Mansion parole hearings; if you never saw one of these you should put it on your schedule.

Charlie begins impressively, but as the hearing goes on he begins to unravel until, after about twelve minutes, he is telling parole board member that he could kill them and not think twice about it. Listening to Palin isn’t that much different.

  22. KayInMaine says:

According to Sarah Palin if you’re making $10/hr and your boss says, “Sorry pal, but I’m cutting $2 from your hourly wage!”, Sarah believes this is more money in the employee’s pockets! Yeah yeah, just like saying to the people of Alaska, “You know those billions the American people paid in taxes and it’s technically yours to begin with, because all tax money is the people’s money? Well, we’re not going to take it! We want the government to keep it! How’s that? We’re gonna be rich now because we’re not going to take any money in! We’re less for more!”.

Give her a speech and let her throw raw meat to the GOP hardcore and she’ll do fine (with them). Just don’t ever put her in a position where she has to answer questions or think on her feet — not that the Wingers would notice what a disaster she is, but independents certainly would.

Well, this is quite a fib she is telling. During Stevens tenure he brought in some 3.4 billion for the state of Alaska between 1995 and 2008. I guess they just piled it up like snow somewhere, riiiiigghhhhhht. Pork, by capita, for Alaska ranged from about $500 to just under a $1,000 a person.

Sarah didnt mind spending on Todd Palins per diem

Palin complained the state wasn’t getting its share of the windfall. She successfully pushed for a law that raised taxes on oil profits to 25 percent from 22.5, winning passage in the State Legislature in November 2007. The increase amounted to an estimated $1.6-billion [oil revenue went to 11 billion] annually more for the state.

Well, as anyone knows oil companies pass on those tax increases to the consumers…other states!

Yeh, they dont want more money to spend.

The Department of Education also anticipates releasing additional guidance Monday [March 2009] regarding all education funding provisions in the stimulus bill, including the application forms for State Fiscal Stabilization Funds.

Meanwhile, Education Secretary Arne Duncan has explicitly warned school districts to follow the rules and use the stimulus money wisely and responsibly, and has cautioned districts that he intends to get on a plane and personally visit any district that violates the rules in the expenditure of stimulus funds.

I suspect the actual member of the armed forces are also in favor of repealing DADT. Of course, they’re biased because they may believe that a larger military would keep them from returning to Iraq for their 5th, 6th, 7th or more tours. What about that Anne Kilkenny e-mail?
I stumbled across a letter from a woman by the name of Anne Kilkenny (I think). It’s all over the Internet and the woman claims to be from Palin’s home town and gives personal information about the VP nominee. Is there any way to look into the legitimacy of this letter? It seems to be legitimate, but I usually only trust the articles you write.

Read the full Letter from Anne Kilkenny

    A:

The facts in the e-mail message about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are mostly correct.
This e-mail was indeed written by a woman named Anne Kilkenny, a resident of Wasilla, who sent it to friends soon after Sen. John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate. We have been in e-mail contact with her. Her remarks have been distributed to countless people and reside on innumerable Web sites, and we continue to be asked about their veracity by our readers.

We found that most of Kilkenny’s main factual claims are correct, or very close. Kilkenny’s own views, such as, “She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions,” are a big part of the e-mail, as well. The author is a Democrat and not a fan of Palin’s, but she’s forthcoming about that and has a few positive things to say about Palin too, calling her “smart” and “energetic and hardworking.”

We’ll go through some of her major factual allegations about Palin, and leave the opinion out.

dbadass, I suspect there are a number of explanations for trollish behavior, but a select few must suggest deep psychological dysfunction. One who spends all day anonymously seeking negative attention goes well beyond simply juvenile pranksterism.

The fact that it never mounts an actual argument but instead relies on belched retorts and deluded aphorims suggests that it has no real political motive, just a personal one. And that is to feed its starving ego with any meager nourishment it can find, even negative attention. And it seems to have become addicted to the negative attention.

It strikes me as a sort of eating disorder of self esteem. It refuses to nourish itself with actual affection from any family or friends and instead seeks the corrosive effect of the disdain it willful seeks to generate among a community of anonymous strangers.

    Very sad.

On the plus side, if we can get our research published, we could very well make our names in the field for identifying a previously unknown mutation of human psychology.

  150. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

Just glancing through before I say good night, I saw some talk about spending vs. cutting in gov’t spending. This is just a political game they all play with each other.

In truth, quite often, spending in actual dollars goes up each year. So when people defend themselves against charges of “cutting spending”, they point to the fact that actual dollars spent have gone up each year. Where the “cutting” comes in is in the proposed budgets for future years. When they reduce the amount that they intended to increase spending some time down the road, they call it a “cut”, even if they actually spend more than the year before. That’s why you hear charges of “she cut spending” when she spent more each year. (Or he.)

The point is that it has become so meaningless a charge that it isn’t worth bringing up, IMHO.

    Good night, everyone.

But in my defense, I did lay down a few qualifiers:
dim-witted and poor grammar. No one could ever mistake a real cougar’s growled message, but Barbie always seems to garble any point she’s trying to make.

  171. AaronQ of Maine says:

Pretty much the middle east is a historically violent place. If americans go there their going to find that violence. But there is also a lot of hope there too. Beheading is like old school. If it wasn’t americans it was someone.

They are using video cameras, which means there is possible exploitation. MSM uses these videos to get ratings and in turn get advertisers monies. So, these terrorists are unwittingly help american capitalism. Ironic.

Palin, might be smart, but it would mean she was acting this whole time, you know, playing the character. I think Sean Hannity is a character too, the real sean is probably (secret horrible hypocrite) someone else too. But people will do anything to get on TV, even cut off people’s heads.

  172. atlasfugged says:

Great! I am going to stop giving a dollar several times a week to that panhandler I see everyday on my way to subway. The less money he has, the less he spends, and thus the better off he is. (I’ll try to explain this to him. I’m sure he’ll understand).

But, wait! If I don’t give him that dollar, then I’ll have several extra dollars at the end of the week, which means I might spend more, which means I’ll be worse off. It’s like I’d be bound by some kind a Gordian knot. I mean I could just burn the money, but that would be insane. What ever should I do? Oh, Sarah, your “You Betcha!” logic has confounded me once again!!

  173. barfly says:

I can’t wait for the intelekshul debate in 2011, between Newt and She Who Is Not To Be Named.

He’ll put forth a detailed proposal, and she’ll tear at it with poorly constructed ripostes, and he’ll be reluctant to point out her poor analy sis, for fear of being criticized for attacking a woman. Then Sarah will find some way of working Newt’s failed marriages into the mix, and it’ll be 2 naked ambitions in the ring, ready to claw each other’s eyes out for any advantage.

    Good Times.

  174. AaronQ of Maine says:

Newt Palin 2012. Obama biden is too surreal. Just kidding. I don’t pay taxes anyways so it doesn’t matter who wins. I just like to watch the people who actually-think-their-vote-matters heads explode.

  175. AaronQ of Maine says:

just kidding about the taxes. I paid like $3 just today.

  176. had enough says:

    Palin, might be smart

The only thing smart about that loon is due to her stupidity she has learned how to survive by using nonsense chit chat.

  178. ranus69 says:

Palin didn’t even know who signed NAFTA, she’s like a fly that won’t go away until she is voted out of office and never elected to another again she’s dumb.

  179. Intrepid says:

Care to talk about how you were spouting progressive lies like Palin cutting 62% of funding and me calling you out on it? I forgot you would rather make up fake quotes like you make up fake facts and then call yourself intelligent. You really are pathetic.

I even made up the url to the site I linked (surprised?) and the “fake quote” dribble is merely my translating what you said from “pathetic” moron to conventional English so the “intelligent” ones in here can understand you.

    :)

  180. The Artist Formerly Known as 'Bartlebee' says:

Well, considering how they’ve spent federal funds before, like their infamous “bridge to nowhere”, I’m gonna have to agree with Sarah on this one.

The less money we give Alaska, the better.

  181. Razor_Boy says:

Shouldn’t we all be getting checks from Alaska’s oil industry? After all, didn’t our progenitors tax money go to by that land in the first place?

Shouldn’t we all be getting checks from Alaska’s oil industry? After all, didn’t our progenitors tax money go to by that land in the first place?

That is true, Alaska, Sewards Folly, was purchased by the United States in 1867 for a little over 7 million from the Russians.

  183. Xisithrus says:

I expect my yearly portion of the Alaska oil revenue, [11 billion divided by 300 million] 36.66 dollars, Ms Palin, please pay in cash plus interest.

  184. MCMetal says:

The less Bible Spice Palin talks , the better all our ears feel ………..

  185. PatrioticLiberalChristianMantisReligiosa says:

If the Alaska government has less money, then there will be less money to spend on special education, services for the blind and deaf, and programs for military families. Why does Palin hate We the People?

  186. Wiz says:

It doesn’t look like Palin will run for reelection in Alaska. She is foresaking the people of Alaska to appeal to the Republican 20% core to get a shot at 2012. She cannot afford to be defeated as Governor if she wants a chance. This is same thing that Pawlenty did in Minnesota. I actually think that Palin will be a good designated loser against Obama in 2012.

On the subject of Alaska Oil revenues, I think that the Alaska cut on oil is a tax on the rest of the country. This is a true case of taxation without representation, why don’t they bring this up at the so-called tea parties? The United States bought Alaska, the public resources in Alaska should be owned that the people of the United States, not just those in Alaska. It is unfair for Alaska to receive these revenues alone.

  188. christopher wiwi says:

Wiz, I agree with you on that, but the damn pesky Reich wingers will say some stupid like the 10th Amendment and states rights.Palin doesn`t care about her citizens and that with less money coming in means less $ for education, police and fire depts and the rest of the commons that taxes pay for, she is looking ahead to 2012 and that`s good for the left but in the meantime Alaska`s citizens will suffer.

  189. christopher wiwi says:

Palin also wants less money for SEX EDUCATION and Planned Parenthood…….

  190. RUCeriousMaggot! says:

No!” The fewer dollars that the state of Alaska government has, the fewer dollars we spend. And that’s good for our families and for the private sector.

Someone please buy this woman an ‘Econ 101 for dummies’ book.

Not that she’d read it unless it was the King James version, but it would look good gathering dust on her coffee table.

  191. Doodlebug Shayne says:

I wonder who paid for Bristol’s health insurance and how she is getting coverage for the baby as well.

  192. Doodlebug Shayne says:

In addition Wiz if they can give each resident $3K why does Alaska take almost twice as much money back from the federal government as it pays in? They probably don’t even collect state taxes on that money to pay for things they need like better schools.

  193. Wiz says:

christopher wiwi: The states rights question is what the Repubs bring up to fight something they don’t like. At once they champion states rights, but oppose gay marriage when a state implements it. The cited states rights as a way to oppose civil rights in a number of ways. They don’t care about states right anymore than I care about the far side of the moon. They only care about advancing their power. People have caught on to Republican hypocrisy

  194. The Moderate Squad says:

I think Palin’s tune might change if she wasn’t living on the state teat.

    republicans hate facts Says:

You should READ DOWN FURTHER in the FACT CHECK ARTICLE you LINKED…. Palin *DID* make those cuts. But to *DEAF* programs and other “SPECIAL” programs like trouble youth military academy.

    http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html

According to Eddy Jeans at the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, funding for special needs and intensive needs students has increased every year since Palin entered office, from a total of $203 million in 2006 to a projected $276 million in 2009.

Those who claim that Palin cut special needs funding by 62 percent are looking in the wrong place and misinterpreting what they find there

And in any case, the decrease in funding for special schools is illusory

You really are a moron. Clearly you have been owned here. Admit you were wrong and you did not look at the facts and move on.
