O’Reilly: I never called Tiller ‘Dr. Killer.’

Last night, Bill O’Reilly took issue with a recent San Francisco Chronicle article that pointed out that O’Reilly had referred to the late Dr. George Tiller as ‘Dr. Killer.’ “Transcripts prove what reporter Joe wrote was false,” O’Reilly said. In fact, O’Reilly did refer to Tiller as ‘Dr. Killer’ on June 2.

O’REILLY: In order to terminate a life, that has to be catastrophic. And I think it has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, in Dr. Killer’s case, that wasn’t what he was doing. But Ms. Ireland, we appreciate you coming him on.

IRELAND: You call him Dr. Killer, and he was murdered. And I think that that is…just outrageous.

Watch a compilation:

While his June 2 remark appears to have been inadvertent, O’Reilly often referred to Tiller as “Tiller the baby killer” prior to his murder.

  1. AIO says:

Not ‘Dr. Killer’, but ‘Tiller the Baby Killer’; opps, sorry, my bad, Bill.

  2. Wayne says:

well we do call him O’LIEly for a reason

  3. Uncle Ho says:

    “I never called…”

    yeah, ….right….
and I’m a kumquat from Queens

  4. raynman says:

He may have ‘accidentally’ called him Dr. Killer, but he certainly did say ‘Tiller the Baby Killer’. Doesn’t seem productive to split hairs with someone as morally bankrupt as O’Reilly is

  5. The Moderate Squad says:

Does O’Reilly realize the huge potential for his rhetoric to backfire? The Reactionary Party has a marked habit of late of turning on their own for not being Reactionary enough…

  6. CageyCretin says:

Y’all mis-heard him… he said “Dr. Fluffy Bunny”. Listen closely to the recordings….. it helps if you squint a little…..

… funny thing is, how many of his loyal fans will believe him on this for the rest of eternity?

Not so funny thought is, how many of his loyal fans will RECALL that he DID say Dr. Killer, and note that he is lying?

  7. CageyCretin says:

How many of his loyal fans are coherent enough to know to change their depends?

  8. Blackacre says:

Why didn’t he correct Ms. Ireland when she said “you call him Dr. Killer?” I notice Billo didn’t say, “the video proves that’s a lie.”

  9. shoeless says:

O’Reilly has been on TV a long time. You would think by now he would know that videotape can be saved and played back later.

  10. spearNmagicHelmet says:

i’m sure it was a slip of the lip, he didn’t even realize he said it when he did say it. but i’m sure he’s seen/heard the tape since then. and he did say it.

    Just the terrorists.

  12. jjm says:

Almost psychotic in his denial of reality…

  13. paleolib says:

He can’t win this one. At least half of his crazed viewers will be pissed that he now claims he did not call him “Dr. Killer”.

  14. RantingTommy says:

    BillO supports terrorism

    It’s that simple

  15. misscoleopteramolly says:

It’s pretty obvious that O’Reilly DID say “Dr. Killer”, even though it was probably a misspeak. Not only does the videotape show what he said, but his guest even called him on it at the time. His denial is a lie that anybody with the intelligence of a deviled egg can see.

But O’Reilly really doesn’t care if he looks like a lying fool to most of us. His kool-aid drinking choir will never question him, and since they’re the people responsible for his paycheck, they’re the only people that matter to him.

  16. EndTheGOP says:

His loyal viewers don’t listen to, or read, other sources of information. Therefore, whatever Psycho Bill says is true. I love how an older family member doesn’t trust the Internet, says it’s full of lies. He gets that right from his “hero”, Bill-O the Clown, who attacks the Internet any chance he gets. And why attack the Internet? Because the Internet is the biggest threat to Bill-O’s ability to get away with the rampant lies to his sheeple.

  17. Doodlebug Shayne says:

O’Reilly and the others that throw these buzz words around know EXACTLY what they’re doing. Palin is running around calling the President a socialist just like she said he hung around with terrorists during the election. Just like Jon Voights hate speech. They’re trying to incite somebody to take the shot for them. They are just as complicit as the people who commit the terror acts and should be held responsible. Dr. Tiller’s family should file a big fact civil suit against Billdo if nobody else will charge him.

  18. Tawdry says:

O’Reilly will continue to claim “I never said..” forever and Fox will continue to employ him. And a certain percentage of television viewers will continue to follow them. My rabid Republican son-in-law is one of those. If another news channel is on he hollers and screams “lefty channel” and switches to Fox. Nothing will change at Fox or in my son-in-law’s head.

  19. Exit Stage Left says:

FCUK IT!!!! We’ll do it LIVE!!!!

    NO..WAIT…..Let’s TAPE it!!!

  20. ranus69 says:

OMG!!! What a phucking liar O’Reilly is, I can’t believe this moron gets paid 10 million phucking blood dollars to lie.

O’punkishReilly owes Dr. Tiller and his family an apology for contributing to Dr. Tiller’s murder. Also, to the people who worked at Dr.Tiller’s office as they are now all unemployed.

Wasn’t one of the “transcription” companies found to be “doctoring” some of the FNC transcripts in the past?
I think they were “rewriting” some of Bush’s speaking engagements to make him sound “coherent” as well?

  23. ranus69 says:

I wish I could spit in O’Reilly’s face as his is pure garbage.

  24. spencers mom says:

Is it a misspeak or is it pathological? How many times did we hear Fux ‘n’ Friends refer to Obama as Osama?

misscoleopteramolly, that’s the root of it right there. He lies with impugnity because his audience is deaf that ear. To reasonable people, even those who lean right, BO is a caricature of a blustering, corrupt bully, but BO is not interested in reasonable people.

  26. Doodlebug Shayne says:

O’Reilly claimed that the SF Chronicle is going broke because they printed a lie stating that he called doctor Dr. Killer and won’t retract it. O’Reilly did in fact call him Dr. Killer how can they retract what is fact?

  27. Lora says:

    To ConservativeforPlagiarism
For the record, the TP headline has the quotation marks only around the term “Dr. Killer.” And considering that you frequently “borrow” lines from rightwing blogs without proper attributions or quotation marks, you are hardly in the position to discuss the use of quotation marks, hypocrite.

    ConservativeForProgress Says:
You fell into TP’s trap. The “I never called” is not part of O’Reilly’s quote. It is just part of TP’s typical misleading headline.

O’Reilly: “On Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle printed that I called George Tiller “Dr. Killer” while covering his murder last week. That’s a lie. Transcripts prove what reporter Joe Garofoli wrote was false.”

C4Pee parses words with the best of ‘em. One can’t help but assume that Pee admired President Clinton’s “Depends on the meaning of the word ‘is’”.

Unless, of course, Pee’s willingness to parse is party-dependent.

  30. Zimzone says:

Perhaps Billdo will meet the same fate as Dr. Tiller.

    ============
C4P, you fell into O’punkishReilly’s trap. He did say “Dr. Killer” which was part of O’punkishReilly’s quote.

I wish Dr. Tiller’s family would file a civil lawsuit against Faux News since they can’t Fix this one.

  34. Xisithrus says:

On Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle printed that I called George Tiller “Dr. Killer” while covering his murder last week. That’s a lie. Transcripts prove what reporter Joe Garofoli wrote was false.”

Unfortunately, it was true. Bill-do is splitting hairs. He said it while interviewing Ireland and discussing Tillers murder not actually ‘covering’ it.

  35. pags2 says:

O’Reilly claims his words did not cause or contribute to Tiller’s murder. On the other hand, O’Reilly has postulated that people who listen to rap music are encouraged to treat women badly. O’Reilly is trying to have it both ways.

How pathological is it that C4Pee goes to the trouble to show up specifically to defend a documented lie.

  37. Xisithrus says:

Start acting like a journalist instead of a partisan political hack for crying out loud.

  38. Zimzone says:

To be more accurate, TP fell into Bill’O’s trap. He made it sound like he never say that by flatly claiming the citation was wrong. He was probably criticizing its punctuation or something.

  41. dasm says:

Oh, good- now he’ll have to apologize again!

    C4Pee fell into O’Reilly’s trap.

The movie “Disclosure” had a scene near the end where Michael Douglas catches Demi Moore in an obvious Lie about whether she was in Kuala Lumpur at the manufacturing plant?
She denied it and said something like “I don’t know where you could have gotten that…” while they played the VIDEO of her touring the plant!
EVERYONE in that board room(as well as the movie viewers) knew she was caught in a bold-faced lie, except it seems, ConservativesForProgress!!!
    I’m just sayin’!

I hope Tiller’s family sues the living crap out of Bill and Fox news.

Fcuk the Republic Fascist Party & those who vote for it.

  49. Daddy-O says:

One more lie from this g*dd*mn*d f**king liar, Bill ‘Oh, Really?’

They’ll never stop. I’m with Buckie Boy: Sue, baby, sue. But it’ll be really hard to put a trillionaire media master like Rupert Murdoch out of business.

    We can only try.

  50. Whenwillthisnightmareend says:

Two great technological developments that create a trail with which we can homd criminals to account: DNA and Video Tape. Criminals seem to believe that they can manipulate justice in spite of this, but only a fool would believe them over the facts.

  51. Linus says:

Fox and The O’Reilly Factor doctors (no pun intended) the show’s transcript to read “Dr. Tiller” rather than the “Dr. Killer” that came tumbling out of Billo’s mouth, and The S.F. Chronicle is the liar?! Yeah, sure, in that “alternate reality” that Charles Krauthammer congratulated Murdoch and Fox for creating (http://thinkprogress.org/2009/06/10/krauthammer-alternative-reality/).

  52. UCSBKitty says:

It’s time to use their arguments against them especially when it comes to universal health care. How many infants die because of the lack of health care in this country? Who among them could be the one to cure cancer someday, to end world hunger, to become the next president?

  53. bsober says:

Another conservative suffering from terminal moral bankruptcy.

  54. ElBruce says:

Just gonna drop this here, since it’s relevant…

KRAUTHAMMER: What Fox did is not just create a venue for alternative opinion. It created an alternate reality.

  55. FOIA Gras says:

“Transcripts prove what reporter Joe wrote was false,”

Mr. O’Reilly must rely on the same department for his transcripting that does his fact checking.

As badly as his “Dr. Killer” quips screams Freudian slip, the fact that I heard Thom Hartmann make the same slip on his show one day last week lends credence to the plausibility that O’Reilly’s folly was similarly inadvertent. That he would try to use a transcript to refute the video, however, reeks of pathology. (”Who ya gonna believe, me or your own lyin’ eyes?”)

What has been most striking is the contrast between the demeanor of the coverage of Tiller’s assassination by conservative media vs. that of Rev. Falwell’s passing away by liberal talk radio hosts. The former, by and large, perfunctorily condemned the act while showing sympathy for the shooter. I don’t recall liberal talkers reporting on Rev. Falwell’s death by counting all the hateful sound bites as reasons to celebrate the event (liberal callers and message board jockeys may have been a different story, however).

  56. pags2 says:

O’Reilly and Fox will not correct the falsehood because he would lose credibility with his audience. Most of the people who watch him do not watch other networks so they will not hear about this lie. The ones who do are not likely to stop watching the program since they will rationalize what they perceive as a minor error.

  57. wiley says:

Is the FCC going to take a stand? Calling a person who has literally been targeted by a radical group a “murderer” is far more consequential than Janet Jackson’s breast being exposed.
