I thought that nuns viewed themselves as already being married (at least symbolically) — “brides of Christ” and all that. I don’t know if they still do this — but if memory serves, in the old days, they even wore wedding rings to represent this.

I don’t know that the Catholic bishops could technically object to the idea of a nun being married since they’re at least symbolically considered to be “brides of Christ” (and even used to wear wedding rings to represent this, although I don’t know for certain whether they still do or not). However, I think it’s safe to say that they’d definitely object to the idea of a nun committing bigamy!

You mean O’Reilly doesn’t mind that Tango — the female chick incubated and raised by Roy and Silo (the celebrated pair of gay male chinstrap penguins at the Central Park Zoo here in NYC) — has herself paired off with another female chinstrap penguin now that she’s reached adulthood? I’d be inclined to think that O’Reilly and others of his ilk would cite this as evidence that homosexuality can’t be the result of genetics (since she came from a neglected egg and has no biological relationship to either Roy or Silo as far as anyone knows) and that children raised by gay or lesbian couples are more likely to become gay or lesbian themselves.

Frankly, I’m a little confused and curious about how that worked out myself — and I’m saying this as someone who’s wholly in favor of gay marriage and who doesn’t believe that sexual orientation has anything to do with either choice or poor parenting. (Personally, I’m inclined to agree with those who believe that all human beings are born with the capacity to be bisexual and that social and/or religious conditioning is what keeps most people from expressing it — especially since there is, if memory serves, scientific evidence to suggest that life experiences have the potential to influence brain chemistry and/or neural connections as well as the reverse.)
