Von Brunn’s friend: ‘The responsible white separatist community condemns this’ because ‘it makes us look bad.’

John de NugentThe Washington Post reports today on the history of hate of James von Brunn, the reported shooter at the Holocaust Museum. An acquaintance of von Brunn’s, John de Nugent, “who describes himself as a white separatist,” told the Post that von Brunn had been paranoid recently that “someone in Washington” cut his Social Security after “looking at his Web site.” De Nugent also tried to distance von Brunn from what he deemed “the responsible white separatist community”:

De Nugent called von Brunn a genius but described the shooting as the act of “a loner and a hothead.”

“The responsible white separatist community condemns this,” he said. “It makes us look bad.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center describes de Nugent as “a frequent contributor to virulently anti-Semitic and racist online forums,” who was banned from the racist online forum Stormfront after he apparently threatened a moderator who requested that he “tone down the implied threats of violence in his posts.”

Dammit, CTH! You stole my line!

I was gonna say that the responsible rapist community condemns those rapists who kill and dismember their victims because it makes them look bad.

    Now I can’t say that.

    Pooh.

And it should make them look bad – they’re to blame for fueling these terrorrist acts. It’s like playing with matches and gasoline – what in hell did they – the separatist community – think would happen?? Damn fools!

I’d say it’s a good name for Texas, but then I’ve been to Texas and know that the word “responsible” is definitely not appropriate.

Except that William F. Buckley would never have adopted anything close to their philosophy. I might not have agreed with his politics, but the man at least had basic human decency. Something sorely missing in much of the right wing today.

Though this de Nugent guy does look a little like him, now that you mention it.

  16. misscoleopteramolly says:

Is there any way that any kind of white separatist community could look GOOD?

I doubt even Jon Stewart could come up with a way to parody John de Nugent that would make him look more ridiculous than he looks by his own words.

Totally agree, CTH. I didn’t mean to imply that Buckley was a white separatist, though I realize that one could get that impression. I was simply trying to capture an image of a dignified, erudite figure who could serve as the model for the “responsible white separatist”. It didn’t work for me.

  21. Helen Rainier says:

Sheesh — just about every other poster here commented on the same thing I was going to: the “responsible white separatist community.” Truly amazing pretzel logic.

Is that kind of like the Nazis who quickly killed people by gassing them to death as opposed to say, someone in Texas, who drags them to death (like James Byrd) by chaining them to the back of a truck?

My lord, they are regressing on the ladder of climbing out of the tar pits.

  23. misscoleopteramolly says:

    ___________________________________________________________

Doesn’t von Brunn know that cutting one’s Social Security isn’t generally how the government deals with people they deem to be a danger? If von Brunn’s online writings were inflammatory enough to warrant any kind of government action, they wouldn’t bother with cutting his SS — they’d just come and get him.

Of course, paranoia is rarely rational…

  28. Zimzone says:

I recall my band playing in Northern Idaho in the early ’70’s.
We had heard about these type of extremists relocating to that area, and wondered if trouble would show up that evening.
While we were doing a sound check, a huge man meandered over to the sound man, who was black. This looming figure quietly informed the sound man that this area had a ’sunset law’, meaning no black people were allowed out after sunset.
I came over and heard the tail end of this conversation. I thought, oh boy, we’re not even playing yet & trouble has found us’. I’ll never forget the next words this giant of a man uttered…‘anyways, my name is Cliff. I’ll be here tonight. If you have anybody bother you or even look at you funny, just holler, hey, Cliff! I’ll be right over to take care of the problem’.
We had a great evening of music, Cliff was there, but not needed and we left without incident.

My point here is never judge anyone on appearance. Judge them by what the say and what they do. We’re all Americans. We need unity to fight extremism.

    Peace Be Upon You

Take the church shooting “christians” who will kill to save lives while you’re at it. They are probably your cousins anyway.

  35. Xisithrus says:

I read where Von Brunn stated that, after his arrest from taking a gun into the FED, told the courts that white people had an higher IQ [speaking of Bell curve I guess]

Okay, lets say, for this big IF example, that people of a certain skin pigment had a higher ability than others because of said pigment.

Why would that mean they would/should need/work to destroy or subjugate a differeing pigment? I would think if one pigment is superior to another they should work to advance the lesser pigment? Isnt the goal to advance humanity and if you had superior ability [not saying anyone does] wouldnt a superior mind say “Ah, you know violence, thousands of years of war, building things so they can be destroyed, are really a regressive thing for us to do”

    misscoleopteramolly Says:

Geez — even Stormfront appears to have SOME scruples. Who would have imagined?

Not scruples, tactics. They hold that premature and/or ineffective violence is harmful to their cause. They would probably cheer someone who assassinated Barack Obama, as that would have be a significant blow to progress; whereas this event does nothing. These are the same people who in one breath say they disagree with Hitler, and in the next breath admit that they only disagree on whether Hitler should have invaded Russia when he did or wait until after occupying England.

It’s also worth mentioning that they also believe there is no such thing as bad press. No matter how negative the attention they receive because of a news event, it might point a few racists to their site and thus give them a few more recruits. So they’re really not too terribly upset about this.

Rightwing extremist chatter on the Internet continues to focus on the

Anti-Semitic extremists attribute these losses to a deliberate conspiracy conducted by a cabal of Jewish “financial elites.” These “accusatory” tactics are employed to draw new recruits into rightwing extremist groups and further radicalize those already subscribing to extremist beliefs.

No problem, gum. If Pee can reach back 145 years to “prove” that Republicans are really the friend of the black man, then going back to WW2 to “prove” that because both the Nazis and the imaginary “Islamo-Fascists” are both anti-semitic and therefore, because radical Islamic fundamentalists are naturally liberal (wink, wink) James von Brunn is a secret leftist — that’s no big deal for our li’l intellectual gymnast.

Right. These movements rely on someone who’s just as nuts as they are, but less pragmatic, to eventually do their work for them. 99. tombaker says:

That pic looks way too much like a young Dennis Hopper.

    DRxJ Says:

Okay, someone HAS GOT to explain to me how a white separatist group can be responsible?
By lynching minorities after dark, and not getting caught?

They wear condoms at all times. ;)

  101. Buckie Boy says:

    “It makes us look bad.”

Uh, just being a white separatist makes you look bad, and why, because you are evil.

The responsible white separatist community does not exist.

Our government needs to start looking at the ReichWingers a lot closer, some of our Troll posters here fit right in with some of the context of their posts.

    Fcuk the Republic Fascist Party

  102. cmac says:

    ‘it makes us look bad.’

    Ya think?

  103. spring heeled jack says:

Honey, does this hood make me look racist?

  104. Hoodathunktick says:

I am glad America has the right of freedom of speech and that everyone is free to choose what they want to believe. But do they have to pick the Nazis? And then act like this is rational behavior?

  105. ElBruce says:

    Xisithrus Says:

Even if you took away these peoples religion they would still, and do, find a reason to hate one another.

Take away the skin color and they would fight over hair types, shave their heads and they would fight over how they talk differently, take away their language and they would fight over ear size/shape…

All of the ways in which humans divide each other is manipulated and controlled by the Southpaw Conspiracy. The secret left-handed cabal controlling everything are the true enemy, but they realize that if the general public knew just how different southpaws secretly are, they would be exterminated for the good of humanity. Thus, they create racism, sexism, every other -ism they can come up with to conceal the fact. WAKE UP, AMERICA! While you sheeple are worrying about how white people treat black people or vice versa, the left-handed people are subjugating all right-handed Americans! Where do you think the word “sinister” comes from?!?

    /crazy

    DRxJ Says:
Okay, someone HAS GOT to explain to me how a white separatist group can be responsible?

They use recycled ropes in their lynchings?

They use ecologically-friendly soaps while cleaning the blood from their Klansmen hoods?

  107. Squeaky Wheels says:

    “It’s a free-for-all, baby
    You want it? You got!
Beat me, beat me, come on eat me!”

  108. Doodlebug Shayne says:

Who do they think they’re fooling. These shooters do exactly what the group hopes they will do. The throw around these buzz words in the hopes that somebody is crazy enough to do their dirty work. Watch Sarah Palin, she is always targeting somebody she feel need discipline.

  109. Janet says:

God, he does look like a young Dennis Hopper now that you mention it. I was thinking, too, that he looks like he is about to break into “Tomorrow Belongs to Me”

  110. Game of Life says:

I read quite a few comments posted on stormfront. To my amazement a lot of them are calling him a nut and don’t want to be associated with the killer.

I believe they had to tone down their hatred or be banned by their isp.

I still don’t believe stormfront and other racist sites are innocent in fueling the killings.

  111. LividLib says:

look at that guy! he belongs in an SS uniform. he’s a natural! there’s just one thing missing – a monocle!

  112. ElBruce says:

    Game of Life Says:

I believe they had to tone down their hatred or be banned by their isp.

If their ISP banned because of hatred, they’d never have been there to begin with. It’s more likely that they had to tone down agreement with a real instance of violence or be investigated by the gubmit.

I recall hearing there was a thread up there earlier where he was being praised, but they shut that one down.

  113. neoconsrscum says:

I’m white- why don’t you and your “responsible white scumbags” go away to say, Antartcia- in your skivvies.

    Janet Says:

The same thought crossed my mind. He looks like Hopper did, in that old Twilight Zone episode, where he played a Hitler-esque character.

  115. The Artist Formerly Known as 'Bartlebee' says:

Why is there a photo of Dennis Hopper above?

  116. ElBruce says:

I still say he looks more like Rutger Hauer.

  117. Rodeskawler says:

Von Brunn is a disgrace to caucasians.

  118. spring heeled jack says:

I say he’s the love child of gay penguin sex between Gen. Wesley Clark and Dennis Hopper.

  119. wiley says:

People who arm themselves to protect their “gene pool” and precious body fluids are not thinking clearly. I have to wonder if this Brunn character had some diagnosable mental illness like bipolar disorder, or OCD combined with stupid programming.

But anyone is going to “look bad” when they embrace a philosophy that’s hard to distinguish from a mental illness.

  120. EugeneDebs says:

    Conservatives4STUPIDITY

YOU are a liar and a fool. MOST of the Arab and Islamic world was allied with US during the second world war. You are stupid CFR. Very stupid. You regurgiate the propaganda of those who think for you and no matter how often we show you that they are lying to you and making a fool out of you. You dont care. You keep repeating their stupidity as your own because you dont CARE if its true. That makes you both a liar and a fool

  121. EugeneDebs says:

I think we just found out who SouthernGuy isl Von Brunn’s friend here

  122. cdwriteme says:

    I think that’s a picture of William F. Buckley

  123. kali90 says:

“responsible” white separatist community.. ha ha…. there’s an oxymoron if there ever was one.. a “responsible” racist movement… ha ha ha ha.. these nutjobs have gone completely off the bend….. what a bunch of psychos, I swear….

  124. Papadeau says:

Who’s the photo of? Is it Denugent or Von Brunn?
You’re posting an ambiguous head shot in an item about
an alleged murderer. If I were Denugent I’d file a libel or slander suit in a New York minute.
