“Taking it in the shorts” seems to imply to me that the Executive Branch pulled a fast one on you, John, or somehow delivered a low blow.
No, John, you and the rest of the GOP sycophants (and a few Dems as well) in Congress voluntarily subjugated yourselves to the Executive Branch and, in the process, failed to fulfill your constitutional duty both in spirit and law. Perhaps even more shocking and pathetic is the fact that the impotence on the part of GOP legislators was not isolated and brief rather they regularly abdicated their check and balance role over the course of and 8 year period. Likewise, they utilized the House Floor, the Senate Well, media outlets, etc. to often defend Bush and attack any dissension.

Not surprisingly, you selfishly note that “we’re (i.e. the GOP) digging ourselves out of a deep hole” while callously forgetting that the entire nation lies in the “deep hole” as well while incurring far greater detriment than the “loss of seats” or bad approval ratings.

John, you didn’t lose power following the 08′ election. You never exercised it in the first place.

Can someone answer this off-topic question for me since jeeves cant?

Is it like a psycho/sociological trick to speak in the manner these guys do? I noticed gonzales, cheney, boehner, rumsfeld, and most notably, jr did this. When answering questions, they furrow their brow, pull back the very sides of their mouths, and squint.

Is this some kind of lawyer/legal poker face? Or is this just the “I’m condescending you while performing illegal nightmares, the scales of which will be hard to conceive for years” face.

I can’t really find the words to describe how I feel that Boehner is saying something sensible. I’m from Ohio so we have to put up with his idiotic actions on a deeper level. He has been an embarrassment to our state. I have a tendency to believe what I read on another post is that he is just trying to cover his own ass over the voting that took place with Bush/Cheney. It will take a lot more common sense from this goof before I am convinced.

How can a man who voted ‘Yes’ for every piece of legistlation that he was asked to vote on by Bush & Cheney, now blaming Bush and Cheney for Republicans failures.

Either Boehner did not know what he was voting on, or he is refusing to take reponsibility for his voting actions.
