True, but that would require completely giving up on the notion that Senators of different parties can be responsible grown-ups and do their jobs. I don’t think we’re quite there yet, regardless of Kyl’s chest-thumping.

The Minority Whip doesn’t control committees, just the floor overall. If it comes out of committee and to the floor, R’s aren’t even needed. What’s that they used to say? Oh yeah – “she deserves a straight ‘up or down’ vote.”

Isn’t she seated yet!?! Let’s move on! Let the Republicans bitgh about this in the aftermath. Let the aftermat last for the next ten years. In the meantime, use a 51 vote majority to pass health care reform, get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, bring American businesses home (or tariff the shit out of their products), put Americans back to work, and let these Republican dinosaurs drown in their oil politics.

I guess my logic behind inviting republicans to boycott the hearing it is be rueful. They are only throwing around the rhetoric of boycott to draw the attention of the media. Such an invitation would be very insulting, and insulting wingnuts is so much fun!

It’s not so much that they are getting stupider, TMS, they are just getting more desperate and loosing control under stress. And, in their fear, they are still fixated on “purifying” the party while trying to put up a front of staunch resistance. Too bad for them. It doesn’t seem to be working in any significant way.

And it sure doesn’t help that they have been reduced to impotent tantrums. Unfortunately, the few who are still buying the message are becoming increasingly dangerous.

a McClatchy-Ipsos poll released today found that “37 percent of the general population and 42 percent of Hispanics said they’d feel less favorably toward the Republican Party if Senate Republicans ‘overwhelmingly oppose’ Sotomayor.”

Hey, GOP, go nuts, boycott – especially if you’re going to be seeking reelection in a state with a sizeable Hispanic population (like Arizona). I thought the wingnuts were pretty stupid during the W administration, but it seems their collective IQ is going the same way as their approval ratings.
