In her profile of CIA Director Leon Panetta in this week’s New Yorker, Jane Mayer reports that Panetta believes former Vice President Dick Cheney’s criticism of the Obama administration’s approach to terrorism almost suggests “he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again”:
Panetta, pouring a cup of coffee, responded to Cheney’s speech with surprising candor. “I think he smells some blood in the water on the national-security issue,” he told me. “It’s almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it’s almost as if he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that’s dangerous politics.”
The language Cheney has chosen to use has suggested he is anticipating another attack. In a CNN interview earlier this year, he explicitly fear-mongered that Obama is “making some choices” that “raise the risk..of another attack.” And in an interview with Politico, Cheney “warned that there is a ‘high probability‘ that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.”
When did they PhotoShop the ice cream cone out?
June 14th, 2009 at 3:31 pmIF we are attacked we know exactly who to blame.
Bush/Cheney
June 14th, 2009 at 3:36 pmWayne: nice subtle reference to Europe ‘72.
http://sunshinedaydream.biz/store/image/1io49/Buttons_Grateful_Dead_-_Europe_72_Button.jpg
June 14th, 2009 at 3:41 pmWe have been saying this all along… and for the CIA director to also comment on this… OMG.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:41 pmDick Cheney’s problem is that he and Bush failed to properly balance our national security needs against our constitutional guarantees of liberty and freedom, which they were obligated to maintain. In every question of national security vs. personal liberties, they sided with national security every time. Remember, these are the people who wanted to initiate (and may have succeeded for all we know) something called TIA, Total Information Awareness, a program designed to capture every single electronic communications of every kind, with or without probable cause. Cheney is one of those who believes that the only way to keep the nation “safe” is to take away everyone’s freedom to not be watched continuously by the government. Sadly, he was not the last one in government who feels this way.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:42 pmCIA Director says Cheney sounds like he is ‘wishing that this country would be attacked again.’
– - Cheney needs to absolve himself of ignoring warnings and memos prior to 9/11 that warned of an attack. So, much like the recidivist sinner who is born-again, Cheney now assumes the role of Richard Clarke, messenger-of-bad-tidings.
Cheney will come off looking more looney than ever or prescient. It’s a good gamble on his part considering he has nothing to lose and the odds of another terror attack rise as time goes on.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:43 pmShorter Dick: Oh Noes! Teh Sky Iz Fallin! Wun awound wif yew haid skreemin!!
June 14th, 2009 at 3:44 pmWe were lucky for the last several years…and Darth Vader Cheney knows it!
Now he wants to parlay that luck into some type of divine action by this pompous jerk…
June 14th, 2009 at 3:47 pmDick Cheney says, “Obama is making some choices that raise the risk..of another attack.”
I’m still waiting to hear the reason why they hate America in the first place.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:51 pmI thought Dick head was masturbating at first!
June 14th, 2009 at 3:53 pmWell, what do you know! In addition to Dick Cheney wanting our nation to be attacked again, John McCain’s adviser from Iran during his campaign also said an attack on America would be fantastic for the republican party:
June 14th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
And wasn’t it Newt Gingrich who also said an attack on our nation would be helpful to republicans? *shaking head* These morons only care about winning elections and don’t care if Americans die and that includes the day of 9/11, which they use now during every election!
June 14th, 2009 at 3:58 pm.
Sorta like Newt Gingrich…
… “Should let some ‘REMINDER’ attacks happen”
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5lmje_newt-gingrich-bush-should-allow-rem_news
WTF?!?!?!
What kind of person wishes upon their Nation, an attack that can kill their own Countrymen?
NONE DARE CALL IT TREASON
.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:00 pmOf course he hopes we get hit again. That is the only hope the Republics have of regaining power in the next century or two.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:00 pmOf course Cheney want’s America to be attacked again. He’s probably planning it right now.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:02 pmCheney and Rumsfeld suspected criminal activities go back as far as the ’80’s. Crimes back then and to this date have been left un checked and not prosecuted…. and look where we are today?!
There is no end to future crimes, or the horrific nature as long as these criminals are allowed to be free.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:02 pmSounds more like a threat from Cheney to me! Since CIA Director Leon Panetta is “the boss”, I hope the CIA is keeping a very close eye on the Cheney Mafia…. no telling WHAT they are plotting!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:05 pmDamn!! Now we gotta look forward to “crazy” Liz defending her “evil”, “lying”, “war criminal” father again. AG Holder and Senator Leahy et al better hurry up and lock Cheney up. I wouldn’t be surprise if Halliburton and Cheney has made some sort of secret deal with Al-Qaeda to attack America again?
What a sick phuck Dick Cheney is. We all knew this “twisted” and “demented” cretin was wishing for another attack.
Cheney should be brought up on Treasonous charges against America!!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:07 pmCheney already did tell us that the next attack he’s planned for America will be nuclear. He truly is our pal for letting us know!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:10 pmSIDEBAR NOTE: I’ve noticed that Glenn Beck didn’t say, “Hello, you sick twisted freaks” on his Friday morning radio program. Do you think maybe Beck knows that Americans nod in agreement every time he says that?
June 14th, 2009 at 4:11 pmWe all know Dick Cheney still has his assassination squad at his disposal and when nukes start falling all over America, I think it would be in the best interest of our government to get a copy of Cheney’s phone/cell phone/email/fax logs pronto!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:13 pmCheney gives sociopaths a bad name. After pretty much allowing the worst attack on American soil. This dark heart seems like he wants it to happen again. Why does the media keep giving this fool a medium to talk?
June 14th, 2009 at 4:18 pmWhen is obama going to figure out that he can’t placate them and he certainly can’t trust them? Why is he allowing so many of w’s people to remain fixed in place? Don’t try to tell me how he is two moves ahead of me in the big chess game. As long as w’s people are in place, they can do things to help make life dangerous for us. Appointing them to his Cabinet is just opening the door to trouble. The wingnuts need to be investigated and prosecuted. As long as they can keep getting away with these treasonous deeds and hiding behind “political differences shouldn’t be prosecuted,” this kind of cancer on the body politic will continue. Just look at people like elliot ambrams and the rest of that crew who were pardoned; many came back to w and continued to cause problems.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:19 pmScientific Poll: 84% Reject Official 9/11 Story
and this:
Seven in 10 Americans think the assassination of John F. Kennedy was the result of a plot, not the act of a lone killer – and a bare majority thinks that plot included a second shooter on Dealey Plaza
June 14th, 2009 at 4:19 pmOf course he is!
9/11 was an INSIDE JOB!
Because they cannot duplicate that act treason, they need to root for someone else to create mayhem.
The msm has constantly featured little dicky and his daughter fanning the flames – doing everything but directly advocate for a violent act against US interests.
But remember – they did much more than “wish” before 9/11 – they actually created it.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:20 pmTheirs no reason for an attack by foreign forces. The terrorists that Dick helped create, arm, organize, and motivate are racking up quite a body count on their own.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:29 pmOops? Theirs=There’s
June 14th, 2009 at 4:30 pmOf course he does! An attack is exactly what he needs to justify the suppression of our rights and his torture policy. It’s all about the fear!
June 14th, 2009 at 4:30 pmWhat’s worse: Cheney wants it to happen again because he believes it would prove we’re all softies–if not traitors–who are not torturing people enough. That’s patriotism, winger-style.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:32 pmI agree with Another Joe, but let’s take another take on Cheney’s words. Suppose he is setting up the next “attack” by this sudden outburst of TV appearances. Suppose this is already in the works. We can suppose these things because we never got the truth on the original causes of the 9/11, particularly after a scientist found micro particles of thermite in the dust in various parts of the city. I think someone needs to do some checking, like the FBI or the CIA, on Cheney and his neo-con artist friends.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:36 pmEven a poll taken on Fox News – the place where these criminals are birthed and aided:
Poll: Most Believe ‘Cover-Up’ of JFK Assassination Facts
June 14th, 2009 at 4:37 pmIt’s all about ‘parity.’
The Dims “got” Nixon.
The Pukes “got” Carter AND Clinton.
IX/XI occurred on the Chimp/Cheney’s watch; total dead 3,000.
The next one, on Obama’s watch?
Do the math…
What “next one?”
You know. The “NEXT one!” Much bigger. Dirty nuke, probably.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:37 pmThese sort of statements are no surprise. Consider Mark Kirk and his statements to China. It is time for mainstream media to go after Cheney, Kirk, Limbaugh, etc. It is not enough to just report their statements, but to come out against these statements.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:38 pmCheney is the kind of psycho who will hurt you badly just to prove to you that there are people out there who will hurt you badly.
The biggest problem with Republicans and right-wingers is not their “principles”, but their negative attitudes toward just about everything.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:39 pm.

I stand corrected…
… None dare call it SEDITION!
.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:44 pmIf there is anaother attack, I will personally suspect Cheney as the mastermind. He will be guilty until proven innocent –just the kind of justice he likes.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:45 pmAmerica owes it to itself and to the rest of the world to have Bush and Cheney brought up on treason charges President Obama can’t restore diplomacy all by himself?
And I bet “crazy” Liz and her “hideous” rueful father are laughing at all of this?
BTW let’s not forget Mark Kirk, R-IL, told Chinese officials not to trust America’s budget figures? WTF!!
I have such bitter contempt for Bush’s Torture Administration.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:49 pmThe whole gaggle of Reichwhiners is setting the table for catastrophe. They piss and moan about everything, claim it’s all going to lead to some big disaster, and now they are trying to provoke those disasters.
And, as disasters don’t happen, they will simply make them up if necessary. Let us hope they won’t manage to convince anyone outside their shrinking 20% of committed nut jobs. That stupidest fifth of the electorate can still be dangerous enough on their own.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:53 pmPANETTA: “When you read behind it, it’s almost as if he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that’s dangerous politics.”
You can drop the “almost,” Panetta. Cheney has wet dreams about this country being hit by another massive terrorist attack.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:05 pmIt isn’t hard to imagine Dick Cheney, dental drill bit posed at the ready, hovering over Director Panetti in the dental chair and repeating over and over “Am I safe yet?” Drillin’ Dick I just have to ask, “Are any of the American citizens who believe you should be on trial right now, safe?”
June 14th, 2009 at 5:06 pmCan I geezer like Cheney still have wet dream?
June 14th, 2009 at 5:07 pmDamn. I really need a preview button…
June 14th, 2009 at 5:11 pmdb,

What I’m wondering is if the Obama administration has identified Cheney’s little army of assassins. It would be very embarrassing and probably not good for this country if they are still under Cheney’s control.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:14 pmIt’s about time someone officially called Cheney a chicken little. This is Cheney’s terror game. It will happen. Cheney will blame everyone else but himself. Hopefully he will be in prison when it happens.

I think that part of the problem is that President Obama can’t even get his own people in place. Do you have any idea how many appointments the Republics are holding up at this time? I heard on Randi Rhodes show that it’s a lot of them. Part of the reason why Obama is having a hard time rolling out the stimulus money is because he doesn’t have his own people in key positions that will need to be there to administer the money and make sure it’s being spent wisely.
If he can’t even get his own people in place, how in the hell is he supposed to get rid of the Bush holdovers?
I think it’s time for Obama to start making waves and holding a news conference where he tells us all the people the Republics are holding up. I’ve never seen anything like what the Republics are doing to the Obama Administration in my 61 years on this earth.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:19 pmdb,

I heard Thom Hartmann interview a guy about the JFK assassination the other day and it was down right terrifying. A guy in the FBI blew the whistle on an assassination plan in Chicago about a month before Kennedy was shot and the government ended up in arresting him on a trumped up charge and throwing him in prison for 3 years. And while he was in prison they tried to get him declared legally insane.
I wonder if we will ever know what happened with JFK just like I wonder if we will ever know what happened at Roswell.

June 14th, 2009 at 5:35 pmDarth Cheney needs to go crawl back under whatever rock he came from. He’s waiting for the “I told you so” moment and it’s sick. If he had just paid attention in the first place to the memos then none this mess would have ever happened.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:44 pmWait for the howls of protest over Panetta’s comment from the right wing.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:56 pmPeople should remember – everything Cheney says, every word that comes out of his mouth – is designed for the sole purpose of preventing himself from facing charges for his crimes. He believes that if he drums up political support for what he’s done that justice can be completely circumvented, or at least delayed well beyond his natural life span. So far, it seems to be working.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:56 pmJust a thought that keeps coming back……
Fade In: In a ski chalet in the rocky mountains early January 2001
June 14th, 2009 at 5:57 pmSitting in comfortable leather chairs in front of a roaring fire in an expensively decorated den are two men drinking Cognac from sniffers and smoking Cuban cigars. One man, the chalet owner is a Prince from an oil rich country in the Middle East, the other man, older statesman and former Secretary of War sit talking.
Prince
Well, now that you’ve got your man in place, I expect you will start the plan you’ve been working on all these years.
Former Secretary
Well, yeah Prince. With my input the new president will be putty in my hands. He’ll follow orders, but he just won’t understand they’re orders as he’ll come to the conclusions I put into his head. The guy doesn’t have a clue and all I have to do is explain thing in a way that the only choice is to do just what I want him to do.
Prince
I never thought he was very smart. How did he come to be your president?
Former Secretary
Well he’s not my president. (Laughter…) How he became president is with some political slight-of-hand and friends in high places. It’s amazing what you can do when you game the system real well.
Here’s were you come in Prince. We need something like a new Pearl Harbor to enrage the American people so they will let us do whatever we say must be done. I’m thinking of an attack by terrorist here in America. I don’t need to know the details, but it needs to happen early in the new presidency so we can make maximum use of the attack. That way, once we have thing moving on our side we can go after those that attacked then move into that Iraq thing we talked about before the election.
Prince
There have been some discussions with a family friend you know about. He would like to finish a job started by others in the 90’s. If we pay him he will come up with something quickly I think. If I give the go ahead, I think you should have your attack within, oh, six months, maybe a little longer.
Former Secretary
Okay, Prince. Make it happen. Let me know that it’s rolling, but nothing more until it’s ready to go down.
Prince
Good, I’ll contact our secret services and have them pass along the go ahead to (redacted).
I’d like to think that there is a lack of trolls on this topic because even they can’t defend the murderous cyborg anymore. But, alas, it’s probably just because they’re busy on Sundays burning Harry Potter books, doing the superior dance at Christian rock raves, and catching up on tivo-ed porn.
If anyone remembers an episode of the old Outer Limits show from the ’60s called “The Zanti Misfits,” doesn’t Dick look like one of those creatures?
June 14th, 2009 at 5:59 pmThe conspiracy nuttery in here is even worse than the liberal babble. Both the 9/11 and JFK conspiracies have been debunked by science. Over, and over and over and over again.
June 14th, 2009 at 6:00 pmWe already have been attacked when a Military man is gunned down in Arkansas by a Muslim.

June 14th, 2009 at 6:01 pmB.O. and company have let the Muslims loose in our Country but the press is down playing it.
Do anyone really think Bill O’Reilly would do something like that? It sounds so out-of-character for him.
June 14th, 2009 at 6:09 pmSo Cheney is gloating over the possibility of another terrorist attack, apparently to redeem his failure to stop the last terrorist attack in this country on 9/11. Should one occur then we would need to thank Cheney in large measure for his failure to capture or kill the cornered bin Laden at Tora Bora. Talk about grave failures…..
June 14th, 2009 at 6:09 pmAm I hearing the buzzzzzzzzzzz of vultures?
June 14th, 2009 at 6:12 pmOf course Cheney hopes for attacks. It’s how he & his friends make their millions. Thank God Obama has protected us from offshore attacks, actually vastly improving foreign relations, & is working to make the U.S. a world power again. Too bad the right-wing extremists like Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, & Malkin continue to encourage & promote home-grown terrorists with their lies, racism, violent rhetoric,& hatred. Until these bigoted losers are put out to pasture, the U.S. doesn’t stand a chance of regaining its global presence. But again, thank you, Obama, for trying. You are doing a great job, in spite of the Repub lying wingnuts.

Idiot, we were “attacked again” when the anthrax attacks took place. Then the Beltway Sniper. Oh yeah, Dr Tiller was killed by a terrorist, just like those church goers last year. And also the terrorist shooting you mention.
Hey, how come you only mentioned the converted Muslim? No, don’t answer that. I know the answer.

Whatever anyone thinks about 9/11 is was a failure of our air defense system that has not been adequately explained, and I’ve heard bupkiss about them doing anything to address that. Treating passengers like potential terrorists doesn’t count.

The jokers at Conservapedia are calling the ordered execution of Dr. George Tiller an “act of retaliatory violence”. Glenn Beck is telling his insane audience, “sometimes you have to pick up a gun”, when you are afraid of other people.
I don’t give a rip if our pet trolls are angry adolescents, twisted practical jokers, or serious threats to public safety. Until the Reichwhiners collectively condemn violence for political means as the terrorism it is? They are part of a terrorist movement.
Terrorists. Right Wing Extremists. Murderers and those who conspire to bring violence to our streets, and schools, and museums, and churches. That’s the GOP ca. 2009.
And they have the unmitigated gall to accuse “the left”, which they can’t even define so they include everyone outside their little 20%er bubble, of being hateful and dangerous? The whole damn bunch should be strapped down and medicated.
Sorry. Rant over. For those of you who, unlike our rabid pets, can read for content; here’s a thoughtful Op/ed from the NY Times:

centrist Says:
The libnuts have already forgotten 9/11 and refuse to admit terrorism is real.
Of course it’s real; that’s why using it to play political games is dangerous. If they really took it seriously, R’s would have secured the ports and improved international police cooperation instead of going it alone.
The fact is, they need terrorists to actually hit us so they can get whatever they want in response. Actually preventing terrorism is unsexy and boring. It involves making friends instead of shooting bad guys. People who think the real world should be a Tom Clancy novel don’t have the patience to deal with it and instead run off seeking more adventure and explosions elsewhere. It’s the sort of thing only a boring, braniac Democrat can handle well.

June 14th, 2009 at 6:59 pmHypocrisy? If one wants to talk about hypocrisy, let’s talk about the murder of a healer.
Dr. George Tiller was systematically targeted for decades by a terrorist movement. This movement is supported by many mainstream sources including a “news” network. This network labeled the Doctor a criminal or the worst kind and provided his identity and location to a audience that includes murderers. And I won’t even mention Reichradio.
So, stupid trolls, I have a challenge. Either admit that political/religious violence is ALWAYS terrorism, and condemn it, or never use the word “hypocrisy” again.

June 14th, 2009 at 7:12 pm9/11 took terrorism to a whole new level, but many countries have lived with and dealt with terrorism without going batty. When I lived in Germany, the Bader-Meinhof gang was active. They didn’t pull off anything as dramatic as 9/11, but they blew up clubs and such with some regularity. People didn’t freak out and stay at home over it. Now there is no Bader-Meinhof gang.
June 14th, 2009 at 7:35 pmOnly on far left blogs do you see anti-Christian rhetoric.
This statement is completely false, and not simply for the obvious mistake of using the word “only,” but also because it misstates what is being said.
What is often mistaken as “anti-Christian rhetoric” is actually a denunciation of all organized religion, not simply Christianity in particular. This view is primarily fueled by the observation that people with deeply held religious beliefs often mistake their view of the world for reality. Denouncers of organized religion believe that this requirement that people substitute their religion’s view of the world for what they can plainly see for themselves is what leads people to make poor choices in other areas of life, such as politics.
Now, as for why Christianity in particular may appear to get picked on the most, that is because politicians will exploit people’s beliefs in order to get elected. Witness Karl Rove being caught referring to the Religious Right as “wackos”. Once they start exploiting religion, they tend to get even more hypocritical. They are often exposed as saying they believe in behaving one way, but doing the exact opposite in their own lives. Since Democrats tend to downplay the whole moral behavior argument, they are less frequently exposed as hypocrites in this one area. Republicans, on the other hand, very often do exploit religion, especially their own religion (which is usually some form of Christianity) and try to appeal to voters by saying they believe in living that way. Then we find out they had an affair with one of their staffers and later ended up marrying them. (Witness Newt Gingrich. Twice. Plus many others.)
I just felt that by viewing it as “anti-Christian rhetoric,” you might be missing part of the point.

Since when is Gaffney “NOT some fringe crackpot”?

The conservative response to terrorism is to cower in fear. Patriots are supposed to be willing to suffer some personal risk in order to defend the ideals their country was founded on, not to sacrifice those ideals in the name of their own cowardice.

No, actually we haven’t. As a matter of fact since the former administrations strategy of bombs and bullets has failed miserably against his war on terrorism while making us less safe and creating more enemies and hatred for our country, the more intelligent President, President Obama is trying to do things a bit differently.
The repiglicans have already forgotten who was President when 9/11 happened and refuse to admit that Bushco dropped the ball pre 9/11 and also allowed Bin Laden to escape in Tora Bora because he wanted to put all focus on a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

June 14th, 2009 at 8:34 pmCentrist, just because YOU say “Nuff said” doesn’t necessarily make it so. The whole reason liberals are against Guantanamo, the Iraq War, the cowboy bluster and all the rest of the Cheney administration’s greatest hits is that we are certain terrorism exists, and we are certain the neoCons’ policies have made us less safe.
Just as we are certain there exists for most Americans at this time a greater risk of terrorism by home-grown right-wingers.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:51 pmCheney and his Conservative hacks are lacking in stature and credibility. President Obama, even at this early stage of his presidency is developing a significant presence on the world stage.
Cheney/Bush are already dwarf in Obama’s Shadow. I wish Cheney had some self respect left and fade away. The country can do just fine with out him.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:55 pmOf course the Evil, lying, neo-con Cheney hope for more deaths of Americans. He and all the Republicans are extremists and have become domestic terrorists. Because they will lie, murder, cheat and intimidate to further their failed conservative (Fascist) agenda.

“”I think that Dick Cheney wants this country to get hit again for political gain. I believe that he thinks, in his mind, that if we can think, make them think – the enemy – that if we’re weak, because Obama can’t stand up for us, we’re gonna get hit. And then of course we can paint the picture that the Democrats just can’t get the job done on national security. I think Cheney is that mean.”

I was very worried about our nation during the Bush years. I think it’s settling down now, except for that 18%. Without a specific and dramatically threatening event, Cheney’s base is just the victim of anxiety that is diagnosable. It appears to me that their character is one of constant alarm and hysterical overreaction to over-hyped threats to their mythical America. They look almost normal when a lot of Americans feel paranoid. It sucks to be them.
June 14th, 2009 at 9:30 pmBush and Cheney wanted us to believe there was a boogeyman waiting to terrorize the country. The only problem was that the boogeyman was them and some people could not figure that out. They were the bigger threat than Bin Laden because he only killed people. Bush and Cheney killed people (Iraq) and took are freedoms away. Thank the deity of your choice there still are elections. We need to be vigilant so that we do not allow our fear to govern our vote.

June 15th, 2009 at 2:55 amOnly on far left blogs do you see anti-Christian rhetoric. — Centrist
***********************************************************
Wrong…or at best, only 25% correct. I can’t deny that there are a few people on progressive sites who have been critical of or who have even expressed outright contempt for Christianity, including some who choose to use language which I personally feel is disrespectful. However, at least some of those people are critical of all organized religion rather than Christianity specifically. I should also remind you that right-wing sites have their fair share of people — including some who identify themselves as Christians — who express contempt (or worse) for anyone with whom they don’t agree. You know that as well as I do — so with all due respect, I don’t think you can fairly claim the moral high ground on that score.
Much of what you consider to be anti-Christian rhetoric, however, I’m more inclined to call anti-hypocrisy rhetoric. The fact that someone claims to be a Christian by virtue of words alone is not automatically enough to truly make that person one. There are even several passages in the Bible to this effect — I know, because I was raised as a Christian. Talk is cheap, but actions speak louder than words because actions don’t lie — and even when speaking, people often reveal more than they intended to or realize they did about how they really feel.
Yes, every person is imperfect and will therefore make mistakes or do bad things. To live a life entirely without sin or ethical lapses is simply not possible for any human being — which is why Christians believe in the importance of both earthly and divine forgiveness. It’s a bit unfair to expect that Christians will always embody the obligations of their faith perfectly — however, that’s still not enough to entirely excuse what they do or say when they fail. I for one am fairly certain that most Christians don’t realize just how much harm and hurt they may have inadvertently caused over the years — but good intentions often aren’t enough (the proverbial road to Hell is said to be paved with them). It cannot be disputed that a good many abuses have been and are committed in the name of Christianity — anyone who says differently is quite simply either in deep denial or lying through his or her teeth.
One reason why I’m disenchanted with a lot of Christians these days is the fact that Christians are supposed to believe that all sin is equally abhorrent to God — but to all appearances, a good many Christians today are very quick to condemn certain groups of people for certain kinds of sin yet quite willing at the same time to overlook or justify their own sins or those of people with whom they agree (even when the sins are sometimes the same ones!). It may be human nature, yes…but it is not Christian, or certainly not according to what I was always taught. Some people even take this to such an extreme that they see themselves as far better than everyone else and give themselves permission to express contempt for other people. That’s when someone has started using their beliefs as an excuse for ego-tripping instead of using it as a catalyst for bettering oneself.
Christians are expected to attempt to live their lives in a Christ-like manner — and one quality which I have always attributed to Jesus yet which seems sadly lacking in many Christians today is genuine respect for other people. Jesus invited other people to follow him — he never demanded or forced them to do so, because he respected their humanity and their right to make their own choices (even if they were the wrong ones). True respect for other people — at least as I define it — means avoiding the temptation to force one’s own will and standards on other people with no regard for their thoughts on the matter (And no — I don’t believe that I automatically know better than they do)

If you’re a republican you’re against women…unless they are cooking you dinner.
If you’re a republican you’re against people of any sexual orientation except monogamist.
If you’re a republican you’re against any religion any where near schools , government or politics..UNLESS it is your brand of fundamental christian?
If you’re a republican you’re against any program or service that will assist, benefit or support individuals that are not republicans (or the filthy rich)
If you’re a republican you’re against supporting anything “Democratic” in government and believe that corporations should rule the masses rather than the masses dictate rules of conduct for the corporations?
If you’re a republican and currently in power, you would be in PRIVATE a Democratic
obstructionist,fascist,racist,sexist,religious fanatic,Jingoist.
If you’re a republican not in power, you would rather be in PUBLIC a Democratic
obstructionist, Fascist,racist,sexist,religious fanatic, Jingoist.
