Ginsburg praises Sotomayor nomination: She will bring ‘a wealth of experience in law and in life.’

Speaking at the annual conference of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit on Friday, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg praised the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the court. “As much as I will miss Justice Souter’s company,” said Ginsburg, “I was cheered by the next banner headline,” which was Sotomayor’s nomination. Ginsburg added that she would be “glad” to no longer be the only woman on the court:

The nominee will bring to the Supreme Court, as she did to the district court and then the Court of Appeals, a wealth of experience in law and in life,” Ginsburg said. “And I am so glad no longer to be the lone woman on the court.” Implicitly assuming that Sotomayor will be confirmed, she added, “I look forward to a new colleague well-equipped to handle the challenges our work presents.”

Yeah, I jumped to the same conclusion AB. Need to slow down and read the headline.

Uh oh! Newt will call Ginsberg a racialist now.

(R)ush would call Ruth Bader Ginsburg, by her comments alone…
    … A sexualist.

After All, (R)ush can’t be having the Femanazi’s in positions of dominance over white old men, can he?

No MCMetal. While they may appear to be mindless, actually they are quite thoughtful in what they are trying to do to our country (destroy it) …kinda like bush

If “racist” transforms to “racialist,” does “sexist” transform to “sexualist” in Newt-speak?

  7. KayInMaine says:

I must say, Ginsberg is correct. We women do rock and we do add the needed rationality in a room (or court!) full of right wing fools.

  8. hormiga brava chavez says:

HOOORAY for Ginsburg! Let the wingnut heads explode. Let the GOPers throw tantrums. To heck with shyte for brains Gingrich rascialist commentary!

  9. krystalview says:

I cracks me up that the Repugnicans are huffing and puffing in order to delay Sotomayor’s hearings hoping they can stir up some more “negative publicity”. Hee hee hee!
President Obama knew exactly what he was doing when he nominated judge Sotomayor! hee hee!

    Hey KayInMaine…still happy,I hope ;-)

“And I am so glad no longer to be the lone woman on the court.”

Reichwingers will start accusing Justice Ginsburg of sexism any minute now.

Can you imagine the absolute hell conservatives are living through right now?

Two “librul”, “activist” female Supreme Court justices!? Conservative white males are losing the privileges that gender & skin color confer!?

Oh, the horror of it all!

Or: Along with Kennedy, they’ll welcome ANOTHER “observant” Catholic.

  13. Gregor Samsa says:

“The nominee will bring to the Supreme Court [...] a wealth of experience in law and in life”

    What!?

Is Justice Ginsburg hinting that women have different experiences than men? And those experiences might weight in their rulings on, oh say, sexual harassment and/or discrimination?

We can’t allow that! The only bias allowed is that of middle-aged, Conservative, affluent, Ivy League-educated white males… you know, the only experience worth talking about.

    /sarc off

  14. KayInMaine says:

Krystalview, I’m always happy until a right winger looks at me wrong! Then I snap. ;-)

  15. Mathazar says:

Actually, I’ll bet the wingnuts will say Ginsburg just wants another chick to share the gossip and exchange recipes.

Too bad they’ll always arrive wearing the same dress. *snark

    Let’s take a look and see…

Roberts: “I hope she doesn’t rule against businesses.”
Scalia : “I hope she doesn’t rule against Italians.”
Alito : “I hope she doesn’t rule against Christians.”
    Thomas : “I’d tap that.”

    VP Biden is a “racialist.”

“That’s the special thing… it’s an Irish thing… a sixth sense. And he really did. I mean, it was a rare, a rare gift…”

And a true example of how he thinks Irish are better than other people:

A: “All these guys with these Rhodes Scholarships and things, and Ivy League schools, I don’t know whether or not I can–I should be here.”

B: “Look… you can learn what they know. They can never learn what you know.”

  20. Marie says:

    OT
It seems that racism is second nature to these cretins that ignorant, bigoted comments like this just slip out naturally.

A state Republican activist has admitted to and apologized for calling a gorilla that escaped from the Riverbanks Zoo Friday an “ancestor” of First Lady Michelle Obama.

…describing Friday morning’s gorilla escape at Columbia’s Riverbanks Zoo.
Longtime SCGOP activist and former state Senate candidate Rusty DePass responded with the comment, “I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless.”…
He said, “I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone.”

  21. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

    Marie,

I saw that story, too. He may have even made it worse.

DePass took his apology a bit further. He also said, “The comment was hers. Not mine,” saying the first lady made statements in the media recently saying we are all descendents of apes.

But an Internet search for those comments turned up no news articles of the like.

“I don’t know of any,” says Coble.

In fairness, we do not know how the “Internet search” was conducted, so we cannot conclusively prove she never said any such thing. But even if she did, so what? That would not excuse what he said.

  22. Zooey says:

Does this make Ginsburg a reverse racists as well? ;)

I agree with AmericasBack — President Obama’s nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the SC was GENIUS on so many levels.

Why dont you do the world a favor and just STFU

So she’s like Scalia, is that it? At least she’s smart enough to keep her racism to herself until confirmation, right? You can’t even keep your racism and sexism under wraps for 5 seconds. You wouldn’t even rate consideration for affirmative action for dumb ass twits — I hear that’s how Bush got into Yale. I’m guessing you’re okay with that.

  28. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

    RealityCheck,

Is there a point to your frequent slurs of, I don’t know, everybody else in the world? Seriously, I think you need the kind of help a mental health professional can provide, not some anonymous political blog.

Just out of curiosity, would you honestly be willing to post the exact same things you do now under your real name?

    To Reality-Checked-in-at-the-Door

How do you think C-student George W. Bush got into Yale, although even his prestigious boarding school didn’t think he could get into one of the Ivies? Why, it was “affirmative action” for alumni sons and grandsons!
By contrast, Sonia Sotomayor was valedictorian of her high school class and graduated summa cum laude from Princeton. I think it’s a sure bet that you are not an Ivy League graduate, unless you were a legacy like Dumbya.

  35. Lora says:

    To RealityChecked-in-at-the-door,
So how did the supposed dummy manage to graduate number 2 in her class at an Ivy League university?
In any case, I’m sure it wasn’t the place of someone like yourself that you took at Princeton.

    RealityCheck Says:
…and yes…she is dumb…she admitted it herself…that the only reason they let her in…was because she took a white persons(SIC) place that was smarter then(SIC) her!

Except she graduated top of her class, with no help. Do you think that white person she displaced would have done so well? Statistics say no way in hell.

  38. RealityCheck says:

A little girl wrote to Sarah Palin and asked, “How did the human race start?”

Sarah Palin answered, “God made Adam and Eve, they had children, and so was all mankind made.”

Two days later, the girl wrote to Michelle Obama and asked the same question.

Michelle Obama answered, “Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved…”

The confused girl went to her father and asked, ” Dad, how is it possible that Sarah Palin told me the Human race was created by God, and Michelle Obama said they evolved from monkeys.”

The father answered, “Well, Dear, it’s very simple, Sarah Palin told you about her ancestors and Michelle Obama told you about hers.”

Of course. I was responding to a nothing with nothing in his head. You are of course a liar and a fool. She graduated Summa Cum Laude you MORON. You are ignorant. You are a racist piece of garbage and you waste oxygen a higher lifeform could be using. Why havent you killed yourself yet? You are a burden on everyone who knows you. Your stupidity is offensive to all decent Americans. Do the right thing and go kill yourself.

  41. EugeneDebs says:

    RealityPunk

More racist stupidity from RealityPunk. See Michelle isnt as STUPID as you. So she would never say that since the theory of evolution NEVER said we were descended from monkeys or apes. Obviously that would be false since YOU are much stupider than any monkey, even retarded monkeys are smarter than you are ever going to be you racist, ignorant punkass troll
