Just a little background for you (and for TPaine2009, too):

First of all, on the weekend TP has a lot fewer threads, so the few that are up tend to wander way far away from topic;

Second, the ‘regulars’ here get a tad upset when a stranger, or one of the usual trolls, opens up his or her first comment with a blanket insult about liberals/progressives, and we usually smack back pretty quickly, usually in kind**;

And third, there are lots of intelligent people here who would truly enjoy intelligent and polite discourse with like people who hold opposing views–this used to happen more often in the before-time, but obviously this past campaign, election, and inauguration have had an affect on the public discourse as well as on the internets.

**Most of the swapping of insults that you see above are between TP regulars and, to us, well-known trolls who contribute nothing to the conversation. Mr. Paine, the ‘Bush = Bad’ stuff started with the troll Proud’s comment (Proud Says: Let me save all of you lots of time. I will sum up every post on TP: Obama….Good Bush….Bad). I’m sorry, but we have simply lost our patience with Proud and his ilk.

This is my 1st time here. I just found this site about an hour ago. I have read through some of the comments that I have seen here.
As I put in my profile I am neither a republican nor a democrat. I am an independant.
As the header statement of the President being partially responsible for the Iranian election is kinda nuts IMHO.
I do see though that alot of people like bashing others opinions. I think that everyone has the right to express their own. But I cannot understand why people find it nessasary to call each other names for expressing those opinions. Again just my own opinion.
I am not very astute on politics. All I know is that being a member of either party brings with it there own problems.
I have never figured out what right-wing, left-wing was suppose to ressemble.
Again IMHO I don’t think anyone in a public office is corruption free. I know in business, it is certainly not corruption free. You know when we have something bad happen, like when we have a hurricane, tornado, flood or even a car accident, people put there differences aside and try to help others out. In those situations it doesn’t matter what color you are, how much money you have or don’t have or if you are a democrat or a republican.
To say that any one party has all the right answers well thats just not the case. IMHO I don’t think that any party has the right answers. It’s the individual. Its about wisdom, compassion, justice, the Constitution of the United States, and whats the best for the most.
But I am one with just one opinion. I hope not to ever intentionally offend anyone but at the same time I hope to have a benefical debate over our goverment, morals and nation.

I see no reason to be nice to people who stop in and start a conversation by calling us fools. I see a reason to slap the stupid out of them

I think it would be original not to discuss the Iranian situation as if it were ours. There is very little factual news coming out about it right now, and a lot of polarizing articles from the West that portray the opposition candidate as if he were a liberal Democrat.

The Ayatollah has the last word, that’s the way it’s been since ‘79, if I’m not mistaken. However it works out for Iran, it’s not our problem our fault.

If you take a look around you’ll find that this is, by comparison, one of the better forums of it’s type. People around here generally take the caps lock off and usually don’t feel the need to post the same thing multiple times.

Keep in mind that the only qualification necessary for this or most any of these forums is an internet connection.

It only takes two for an intelligent discussion and I can absolutely guarantee that there are more than two intelligent people around here.

You mentioned that you are a “glass is half full type person’. I don’t know exactly how full it is around here but at least there is a glass. Spend a few moments over at “Gateway Pundit” if you want to see something truly depressing.

An open-minded person logically, not passionately, is capable of weighing the issues thoughtfully, wiping aside personal biases, and discussing the chosen topic with neither anger nor pessimism.
