74.RantingTommy Says: who needs trolls when we have impractical impatience from hanshiro?

I've a longer memory of the last eight years than you, apparently. Pressure needs applying now because the people whose expertise I trust: the ACLU, Greenwald, CREW, Jon's blog (he's a lawyer as well), Krugman, Hersh, and others who fought the bush administration tooth and claw, are sounding alarm bells.

What you got?

*crickets chirping*

I'm frankly amazed you can type so well, sitting on your hands....

ACLU lawyer: On torture, Obama breaking transparency promises

The Obama administration, as evidenced by the court-ordered release of CIA documents on Monday, is breaking campaign promises for increased transparency, ACLU attorney Ben Wizner said Monday night. Instead, he analogized, Obama is merely continuing Bush-era secrecy surrounding the prior administration’s torture program.

Holding up two documents before cameras on the set of MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show, Wizner attributed one, almost completely censored in black ink, to the Bush administration. The other, which appeared nearly identical, he attributed to the Obama administration’s disclosures Monday. The only difference between the two, he noted, was a single sentence that had been unredacted.

“You see this little line here?” he asked Maddow. “It makes you want to say, ‘Keep the change,’ right?”

“I think what’s going on here is very, very clear,” Wizner said. “This is information, the release of which would increase calls for criminal accountability. And that is something that the Obama administration has been fighting to avoid.”

Transparency my ass!

64.hormiga brava chavez Says: Another thing Hanshiro, Litigators offer all kinds of opinions, etc.

Yet, you can't seem to cough up a single one to defend your take on Obama's stated positions on the issues I've raised. That would make this less of a one-sided discussion. In fact, you've offered not one viable reason for Obama's DOMA capitulation, his telecom immunity collapse, his obstruction and covering up of bush's crimes, the whole schmear.

You don't have bupkis...except indignity over a faceful of disillusionment, sourced and informed.

Up to now, you've provided no sources, no expertise, no information, no nada; you've just employed various ways to say, "Nuh-uh!"

62. hormiga brava chavez Says: First, I don’t worship Obama.

You unquestioningly defend his positions without even being familiar with their consequences. I've cited Obama's DOJ and their documented defense on two issues already, defenses that mirror bush-established policy and said policy that was roundly denounced by Obama himself....candidate Obama...

There's no limit to the lies just to get elected.

Second, your post does not provide any proof that Obama supports Bush’s policies. It’s just an implication that Obama’s embracing Bush’s policies. That’s not proof of Obama embracing or adopting Bush’s policies.

Again, (I'll type more slowly for you since you don't deem it necessary to acquaint yourself with the clear hyperlinks I posted to my sources.) Obama's DOJ has already used bush-established policy to defend not only State secrets provision in court, but defending keeping DOMA in place.

Maybe on your planet that's an merely an "implication," but here on earth, that's called, "damning evidence" of alignment with bush policy.

Why is it that Obama's intelligence is being judged as arrogance? Why? Is it because he's African-American?

No, you racist dou(hebag, because he is simply running counter to the people's will (the majority of whom roundly rejected the bush approach in the last two elections) only to have Obama traipse in and fight to perpetuate those very policies.

That's bluntly arrogant to spit in the face of the very constituents to whom you promised change from bush, then sending your DOJ to keep those policies firmly in place.

That's bullsh¡t!

This is such a token gesture on the heels of the outrageous brief filed by his DoJ in the California DOMA suit. The outrage is not the filing of the brief itself; that was a fulfillment of his oath of office. But did the brief have to resort to classic right wing talking points i.e. incest as legal argument for upholding DOMA?

OFA chapters are being organized in Washington (my home state) and elsewhere right now. That will be my venue of choice for addressing Pres. Obama's repeated betrayal of LGBT interests.

No more money for DNC, DCCC, DSCC; direct any $ to progressive candidates, office holders, and organizations.

Listen to what candidate Obama said on the LOGO network last year
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73oZ_pe1MZ8

He said he would support the rights of preachers to not be forced to perform wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples. Those preachers believed him and got out the vote for California Prop Hate. Now President Obama has to keep his word to them. Check DOMA (Discriminatory Offensive Marriage Attack) closely and you'll see that it stops the same-sex partners of any federal employee from having any rights.

Candidate Obama made it very clear in that debate that he is a heterosupremacist, and now he is acting on his belief that only Americans he accepts or approves of are entitled to constitutional rights. He obviously put his hand on the constitution and swore to uphold the bible.

To some? Love? Rabbitcore does not think the goverment or their insurance corporations should be able to dictate who one should love protect and benefit. Our President and populace forgets that this country has enslaved huge masses of human beings for a corporate purpose, meaning who they should, breed with for their corporate benefit. The church and goverment has no meaning of love. Corporations of today only want the right wing hillbillys, and illierate to breed, to keep people ensalaved to the dollar, living in their corporate induced twilight. To raise children in this country one has to be a morron. Straight or gay love is the same for all, not just for some. Little bunnys in this country, not one of my seed is going to bow to these super corporations, they can stick their dollar up their ass and light it.

Litigators offer all kinds of opinions, etc.

Yoo and Bybee - both lawyers - wrote and approved memos on torture.

Honestly, we the LGBT Community have been burnt so much by the administration already. A small token thing like this is very little to get excited over. I would love to see something major happen form the Obama Admin in regards to gay rights like a repeal of DADT or a repeal of DOMA

Hanshiro,

First, I don’t worship Obama.
Second, your post does not provide any proof that Obama supports Bush’s policies. It’s just an implication that Obama’s embracing Bush’s policies. That’s not proof of Obama embracing or adopting Bush’s policies.

Why is it that Obama's intelligence is being judged as arrogance? Why? Is it because he's African-American?

56.hormiga brava chavez Says: Again, that’s all your opinion. Obama a Bush defender?! That's BS. Not one time have I ever heard Obama defend Bush’s policies outright.

The Obama administration is fighting to block access to names of visitors to the White House, taking up the Bush administration argument that a president doesn't have to reveal who comes calling to influence policy decisions.

Please don't be lame enough to try to twist this into some semantics claim. Obama is, in fact, defending and perpetuating bush policy.

More:

Equally difficult to overstate is how identical the Obama DOJ now is to the Bush DOJ when it comes to its claims of executive secrecy -- not merely in substance but also tone and rhetoric (at least in the area of secrecy; there are still important differences -- no sweeping Article II lawbreaking powers and the like -- which shouldn't be overlooked). I defy anyone to read the Obama DOJ's brief here and identify even a single difference between what it says and what the Bush DOJ routinely said in the era of Cheney/Addington (other than the fact that Bush used to rely on secret claims of national security harm from Michael McConnell whereas Obama relies on secret claims filed by Dennis Blair). Even for those most cynical about what Obama was likely to do or not do in the civil liberties realm, reading this brief from the Obama DOJ is so striking -- and more than a little depressing -- given how indistinguishable it is from everything that poured out of the Bush DOJ regarding secrecy powers in order to evade all legal accountability.

Obama is embracing and, in court, using bush policy to defend secrecy and who-knows-what-else. The above quote is from a Constitutional litigator, so unless you have some compelling counter (which you don't, I'll wager,) you have no basis for your worship of an increasingly secretive and arrogant administration.

"Transparency," my ass...

McWars,

Constructive criticism of the Obama Administration is good. I just reject mean, unfair commentary from people who do not work in the White House and have only their opinions to offer for proof of why the Obama Administration has made the decisions they’ve made in the past 5 months.

Some information has to be classified and kept secret for purposes of national security. Like it or not – we will not be privy to all information coming in and out of the WH.

And again, in response to the contention that there are more immediate pressing issues, I tend to agree. But while the administration is on it, why don't they prepare arguments for fixing up the government's discrimination against gays to the congress instead of having their arguments ready for upholding unconstitutional laws in the courts?

Equal rights for gays isn't #1 on the docket, but it isn't the toughest with the public's comeuppance on the issue, either. And equal rights for gays adds to the economy and our military readiness. They'd be free to gain skills and contribute without the worry that their status would make their efforts go to waste.
