In 2007, Eric and Sandy Ehlers Mongerson divorced, and a Georgia trial judge awarded custody of their four children to Sandy and visitation rights to Eric. Inexplicably, the judge also held that Eric was “prohibited from exposing the children to his homosexual partners and friends.” Yesterday, the Georgia Supreme Court unanimously threw out the trial judge’s ban:
There is no evidence in the record before us that any member of the excluded community has engaged in inappropriate conduct in the presence of the children or that the children would be adversely affected by exposure to any member of that community. The prohibition against contact with any gay or lesbian person acquainted with Husband assumes, without evidentiary support, that the children will suffer harm from any such contact. Such an arbitrary classification based on sexual orientation flies in the face of our public policy that encourages divorced parents to participate in the raising of their children…and constitutes an abuse of discretion.
Georgia law permits a family court judge to prohibit a non-custodial parent from exposing their child to an individual who could have an “adverse effect on the best interests of the children,” but only if there is actual evidence suggesting such an adverse effect. Yesterday’s decision reaffirms the simple truth that there is no evidence that children are harmed in any way whatsoever by interacting with gay men and lesbians.

June 16th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
This view – one can’t catch “teh gay” – does seem to be the popular view, but it’s a view not held by everyone.
Perhaps the judge had read the following researcher, who seems to believe that “teh gay” is catchable, or at least teachable.
http://www.drtraycehansen.com/Pages/writings_prohomo.html
Pro-Homosexual Researchers Conceal Findings:
Children Raised by Openly Homosexual Parents More Likely to Engage in Homosexuality
Since an additional theme of the “popular view” is that no one wants to be gay, it makes sense for the judge to have the best interest of the children in mind when he does the sensible thing and moves to keep the children from a gay parent. Don’t you agree?
June 16th, 2009 at 11:34 pmbitblt seems to think that a researcher who uses the term “Pro-Homosexual Researchers” might have a shred of credibility on this board.
The report to which bit linked begins with this finding:
Studies thus far find between 8% and 21% of homosexually parented children ultimately identify as non-heterosexual. For comparison purposes, approximately 2% of the general population are non-heterosexual.
Note the asymmetrical language: “8% and 21% of homosexually parented children ultimately identify as non-heterosexual” as opposed to “approximately 2% of the general population are non-heterosexual”.
It includes the following note:
All social scientists who conduct research in this emotionally-charged area have personal biases. That’s a given. But if the authors of these studies want to be regarded as scientists, and not activists, they must set aside their biases and straightforwardly present their findings.
Yet the biases of this particular researcher, very much in evidence, do not seem to be “set aside”.
In fact, many believe the percentages of non-heterosexual children in these studies would be even greater if more of the children had been raised from birth by openly homosexual parents.
Since when is belief offered as scientific evidence for anything other than belief itself?
bit and Dr, Hansen do not seem to consider the very real possibility that the reason children of homosexual parents “ultimately identify as non-heterosexual” if these percentages continue to hold true may have more to do with the psychological acceptance of the possibility as normal rather than something of which to be ashamed, and thus are more free to accept it in themselves and to openly volunteer that as their identity. This, of course would require bit to give up his cherished “2% of the population” touchstone, which seems unlikely to happen without a struggle.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:11 amSpeaking for myself, no, I don’t agree.
But it’s good to know that your support for family values is so conditional.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:12 amAlso from the bit’s link above
http://www.drtraycehansen.com/Pages/writings_sexpref.html
At this link the researcher says she reviewed twenty-one studies. She also states her criteria for reviewing the studies.
This phrase “between 8% and 21%” is not asymmetrical language. It is simply a summary of the ranges of numbers found in the twenty-one studies.
You would be correct in assuming that bit understands family values not to include two same-same gender people as the parents. A family is mother and a father and their children. A family can be extended but is never two same-same gender people in place of a mother and a father.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:28 amCorrection:
http://www.drtraycehansen.com/Pages/writings_sexpref.html
Research says she reviewed nine of the twenty-one studies in which she found the percent of homosexual children to range from 8% to 21%.

It would be awful nice if I could keep the existence of bigoted warmongering torturers a secret from my kid. It would be great if I knew she’d never have to confront the fact that there are indeed subhuman murdering filth out in the world like American Patriot and bitblt. If Republican scum could be forced to keep their misbegotten foulness-spawning yaps shut in public places and at least try to pretend to be normal and decent like the rest of us. Because of them, my kid is going to have to face a lot of unpleasant truths growing up.
But unfortunately, I live in America. Unfortunately, they must be allowed to continue to practice their abnormal and disgusting lifestyle practice of trying to subvert equality and human rights right out in public, as if they were actual human beings, instead of soulless automatons, minions of Satan that I know them to be (practicing my freedom of religion).
Yes, the same laws that make them have to put up with teh gays also force the rest of us to have to put up with neocon vermin, rather than offer them a choice between reeducation camps and the extermination camps they deserve.
So maybe you wingnuts shouldn’t complain so much.

Maybe we need two democratic parties; The old dems meaning people such as reid, pelosi and the like and the new dems the ones who are more on the lines of Obama, Ed, Keith and Rachel.
This will at least get a sensible dialog going between two viable parties that is a win-win for us.
June 17th, 2009 at 2:14 amThank GOD that the vast majority of Americans are turning away from this form of prejudice, and are FOR extending equal rights to ALL Americans.
There is no place in America for prejudice or second-class citizens. These people remind me of the “no marriage for inter-racial couples” crowd. They base their arguments on fabricated “studies” and want to force their religion in our faces, no matter what the average American wants.
In 50 years, everyone will wonder why we let the minority anti-equal-rights crowd force their opinion on everyone else. Marriage equality will prove to be the best thing for America.
June 17th, 2009 at 9:34 amThis phrase “between 8% and 21%” is not asymmetrical language.
Thus proving why you’re just too stupid to continue participating in the conversation.
Asymmetrical language refers to the incongruous comparison made between those who “ultimately identify as” versus those who “are.” The first describes an eventual identification, while the latter describes the current identification, with no mention of any future possibilities or past identifications. The two statements do not describe the same situations, and are thus not comparable. Such an obvious error in analysis and presentation of data indicates a very weak basis for the research, as the person doing the research clearly lacks the skills required to properly perform the task in an unbiased way that fairly and accurately describes the data.

I can see your point. Bitbit constantly states “marriage is between one man and one woman” despite the numerous times in the Bible where it proves that marriage used to be between one man and many women, or that a man’s wife is the man’s property to do with as the man desires with no recourse to the woman at all.
Bitbit conveniently ignores the portions of the Bible that don’t fit Bitbit’s pre-conceived ideas. Bitbit seems to practice a “pick and choose” approach to the Bible, discarding anything that doesn’t support Bitbit’s opinions.
I do, however, believe that Bitbit does learn some facts, no matter how many times Bitbit regurgitates talking points.
The big difference between me and Bitbit is that I’m willing to consider that I might be wrong. Bitbit seems to be blinded by Bitbit’s belief in Bitbit’s idea of the “truth”, all facts to the contrary.
June 17th, 2009 at 11:25 amPoor ButtBlight is too STUPID to know that the “Studies” “Doctor (not clinical, only phd) “Trayce” refers to are the Bible Quack Studies that have been DEBUNKED…
bit is sorry that if in your haste to jump to a conclusion you overlooked the fact that the Dr’s(PhD) study was a study of studies conducted by homosexual encouraging researchers(HERs). She was studying others’ numbers and conclusions, and she concluded that the percentages presented by the HERs didn’t agree with their conclusions. IOW, the HERs’ studies concluded that being raised by same-same gender parents had no influence on the children, but the HERs’ numbers suggested that the children were 4 to 10 times more likely to engage in non-heterosexual behavior.
June 17th, 2009 at 11:32 amI can see your point. Bitbit constantly states “marriage is between one man and one woman” despite the numerous times in the Bible where it proves that marriage used to be between one man and many women, or that a man’s wife is the man’s property to do with as the man desires with no recourse to the woman at all.
bit consistently quotes Christ, who in Matthew says that the Creator’s intent was that a man and a woman would be one flesh. This is the definitive remark in the Bible on marriage as far as bit is concerned. Since poster has remembered bit’s previous posts it would seem that the same poster would remember this is the scripture that bit usually quotes on the issue of marriage: Matthew 19.
The NT does not record that Christ commented on homosexuality, but this also means that Christ certainly did not endorse so-called same-same gender marriage the way he endorsed one man and one woman.
Bit is not sure there is a single instance of polygamy recorded in the New Testament. While in the Old Testament there are several instances of polygamy, the practice is not universal even in the Old Testament. Two big name OT characters who only had one wife at a time are Noah and Moses. The lives and actions of these two big name OT characters have benefited even modern people.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:19 amOne might want to note that the OT says the first polygamist was also a murderer.
