Copy Of Black’s ‘Strongly Worded Reprimand’ To Aide For Racist E-mail: ‘I Look Forward To Working Together’
Pressure has been building on Tennessee State Sen. Diane Black (R) to fire her aide, Sherri Goforth, who sent an e-mail with a racist image of President Obama. Today on CNN, for example, former Cheney aide Ron Christie said that “I think the appropriate course of action would be for this staffer to be dismissed.”
However, Black has dug in her heels. Yesterday, she told CNN that that although the e-mail “does not represent the beliefs or opinions of my office,” she decided to keep Goforth on:
When I did find out about the communication that was sent out, I immediately called the H.R. department and through their advice did what they told me needed to be done when there was a violation of an e-mail policy by the state. And so, therefore, as you have already stated, Miss Goforth did get a verbal reprimand as well as a very strongly worded reprimand written and it was put in her file that if this should ever occur again, that she should be immediately terminated.
As the Knoxville News Sentinel reports, the Tennessee Democratic Party has obtained a copy of this “strongly worded reprimand,” which is barely a slap on the wrist. Black advises Goforth not to send communications that are “derogatory regarding any minority” and adds, “I look forward to working together in the future within these guidelines.” The letter:
Goforth initially refused to apologize for the racist imagery, saying only that she sent it to the wrong list. (She eventually apologized for the “offensive nature” of her e-mail.)
Black has repeatedly insisted that Goforth’s e-mail did not “reflect any of my beliefs.” As proof she has cited her time as a nurse, “working with people with black skin who needed medical help” around the world.

They just don’t get it and they never will. Brain dead totally. And they still wonder what all the fuss was about. Can’t you just hear it? “Why that nice Ms.Goforth apologized in the nicest way.” A non apology is no apology. Until she goes on national television and gives an apology personally to the President and his wife, there is no apology. And you do not need to be black to be offended. I am white and I am damn offended.
At the risk of taring all Republicans. This kind of thing crops up weekly from the right wing nuts of that party. Every single week something like this comes up. Not a week since Obama announced his candidacy have the Republicans and those they represent fail to say the most hateful and outrageous things. And they wonder why that party is in the basement of public opinion. And if as an independent I am sick of it, I can only imagine how fed up the President and his wife are.

Seriously, my mother’s been a nurse for almost 35 years, and never once have I heard her say “Oh I’m not a bigot, I love this type of person because as a nurse I treated this type of person!” A real nurse does not define patients by their skin color, nor do they reference a specific people to enforce a point on how *caring* they are. A real nurse doesn’t need to defend their beliefs regarding their patients; their work speaks for itself.

For example: NBA players are generally tall and black. Obama is tall and black. Showing Obama dressed as a basketball player in a caricature, is that racist. Is it a racist stereotype? If anyone is offended, does it rise to the level of racism? Is that person fired for not knowing any better?
Once something is deemed racist, does it command an automatic termination? Is it equitable or just that all examples of racism garner an equal punishment?
