Obama: ‘I’ve got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration.’

During an interview with President Obama that aired on CNBC yesterday, chief Washington correspondent John Harwood said, “When you and I spoke in January, you said — I observed that you hadn’t gotten much bad press. You said it’s coming.” Harwood added that since then, Obama still hasn’t received much critical press and wondered if his administration isn’t being “sufficiently held accountable.” Obama, however, disagreed:

OBAMA: It’s very hard for me to swallow that one. First of all, I’ve got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration. I mean, you know, that’s a pretty…

HARWOOD: I assume you’re talking about Fox.

OBAMA: Well, that’s a pretty big megaphone. And you’d be hard pressed if you watched the entire day to find a positive story about me on that front.

Watch it:

Seeming to undermine the premise of his question, Harwood said after the interview that Obama has “gotten slapped around pretty good on our network for a while” too.

That was a bullshyte question! Harwood feigning like he doesn’t know how much Fox slams Obama is ridiculous. Obama is getting criticism daily from Fox and almost everyone else.

It’s like Obama is not doing enough. Obama’s doing too much. Obama’s not moving fast enough. Obama uses a teleprompter. Obama this and Obama that! Good GD Grief!

There was a study done that showed that the positive things that were said about the President, by “news” station. CBS, NBC, and ABC were in the upper fifties to lower sixties respectively, but FOX was somewhere around 13%. That means they are saying 87% negative things about him – and that he’s absolutely right about this.

Aside from Fox giving George Bush 100% favorable coverage for 8+ years (they were cheerleaders of his campaign as well), I wonder what the coverage of CBS, NBC and ABC was of Bush?

#9 Unbelievable reports that around 60% of coverage on network TV is favored to Obama — but I seriously suspect that favorable coverage of Bush in his first term approached the 80% mark.

Between the networks and Fox, that would average out to pretty high percentages of favorability in reporting the news for GWB — the media shares a great deal of blame for the condition we find ourselves in today.

    ____________________________________________________________

In the first place, Fox News isn’t a “station”, no matter what the President called it. But since both you and President Obama want to call it a “station”, I assume that the “120 other stations” you mention are actually 120 other networks with a reach comparable to that of Fox News.

Would you care to provide both A) a list of these 120 “stations”, and B) some credible evidence that they’re “kissing his ass 24 hours a day”?

And as far as ABC setting up shop two doors down from the White House — that doesn’t translate to butt-kissing of any kind. It does translate to ABC’s desire to provide White House coverage, which can be either positive or negative.

Oh, and it’s “whining”, not “whinning” — and President Obama was doing neither. He was merely rebutting an incorrect point his interviewer brought up.

It’s kind of a loose agreement. Sometimes that’s the best policy. An outright FnF is the way to go when they’re really just wanking, but sometimes they really need to be smacked down directly.

    It’s a judgment call.

Of course, one benefit to calling an FnF is that they try to convince themselves that they’ve “won” in some way and their little pathetic “victory dance” is really funny to watch.

Oh, I see, you mean like this?:

Skeptics counter that there is much evidence to refute Mr. Snow and that Fox, a favorite of conservatives, has long had a unique status in the Bush White House.

When Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a hunting companion and set off an uproar in February, he gave one television interview, to Brit Hume of Fox. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has given very few television interviews lately, but he gave one last week, to Bill O’Reilly of Fox. (This week he is to talk to Larry King on CNN.)

Televisions in the West Wing are regularly tuned to Fox. Televisions on Mr. Cheney’s plane and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s plane are tuned to Fox. Televisions in Mr. Cheney’s hotel rooms must be tuned to Fox before his arrival. Until last month, the television in the press cabin of Air Force One was tuned to Fox.

  102. covered_10 says:

Fox is just red meat for conservatives. What makes it so insidious is its persistence in broadcasting under the “fair and balanced” mantle. Even my conservative relatives will admit that.

Doesn’t matter. You guys set the ground rules that it’s treasonous to criticize a President during wartime.

    We’re still at war.

    Obama is President.

Ergo, you are not allowed to criticize President Obama or else you’re a traitor.

    Sorry. Your rules.

How would you know if we were at war? This site completely stopped reporting on the war after the election.

How would I know we’re at war? Are you serial?

Um.. this may come as a shock to you, but most of us on the left get our news and information from multiple sources. I don’t rely on TP alone to stay informed. In fact, I mostly rely on it to provide entertainment in the form of uninformed trolls like yourself.

well, in fairness to Pee, he doesn’t let the straws go to waste.

He uses ‘em to build his straw man arguments.

Isn’t it sad when a poor, attention-starved creature pushes folks away with its desperation, and then is reduced to repeating the behaviors that led everyone to shun it in the first place?

    Just pathetic.

  115. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

Do I see some idiot trying to make us believe that Fox News Channel’s ratings reflect the quality of its news coverage? Does that moron not know that the reason Fox News Channel has more viewers is because it’s free to cable providers, so customers like us do not have to pay extra for it (like we do for CNN or MSNBC, in many places in the country)? Is this fool so ignorant that he believes making the “Fox News has more viewers” argument will persuade knowledgeable people with IQs in the three-digit range?

How wrong can one person be?

  116. Intrepid says:

    Proud Says:

You are all correct, no negative coverage of the “Messiah Barack” can or should be tolerated.

Since we are fighting two wars, you MUST support Obama. STFU and stand in line, treasonous twat!

Like handing you your ass? LOL!

  119. Doodlebug Shayne says:

The trolls are so stupid that they confuse the ratings for “American Idol” House” etc. in primetime as legitimacy for Fox News. Here’s a flash, 20th Century Fox was around a long time before Faux News. Yes they know how to do entertainment. It’s news they have a problem with. Only those too stupid to know lies when they hear them would listen to that drivel.

  120. ralph the wonder locust says:

    Proud Says:
You are all correct, no negative coverage of the “Messiah Barack” can or should be tolerated.

… and Prod demonstrates the dysfunctional analytical process so typical of the right-wing mind…

Sadly, it’s that flawed analytical ability that has led the G-NO-P right into the wilderness in which it now finds itself. Let’s hope it can read a GPS as well as it can analyze foreign policy or the economy.

  121. American Patriot says:

Fox News Channel has more viewers is because it’s free to cable providers

Is that why I have to pay extra for it?

  122. kdgamergirl says:

Wow this is amusing. Here I thought my break before grad school would be boring! AP is loosing it!

  123. Doodlebug Shayne says:

Besides Wayne the actual amount of viewers for any program are not that easy to access and many times you have to go by what the PR department of any corporation tells you. Unless you are a media buyer for an ad agency that pays for those subscriptions you can’t get proof of anything.

  124. Doodlebug Shayne says:

Stupid bible thumping trolls don’t think everybody believes in the concept of a “messiah”. It ought to be illegal to own a computer when you’re that stupid.

  125. Doodlebug Shayne says:

OMG, the trolls are so stupid they would pay extra for Faux News. Everybody knows it’s available with basic cable everywhere but dumba$$ pays extra. He probably has a pay toilet in his double wide.

Prod’s not doing too well, either, if you’ve noticed…

  127. Doodlebug Shayne says:

Arn Gunnutes, I believe what got Bush and Cheney so despised by the American public was that they only watched the sycophants at Fox lying to them and ignored the feelings of the thinking people of the country.

  128. Doodlebug Shayne says:

Hey dstankass…what happened to B.O.’s thread…about him not allowing the press to see the WH visitors log? I asked you great input you have on the fact that Body Odor has been lying to all of you. He like about transparencies…about putting bills on line prior to passing…about DADT and many other promises.

Sucks when you can’t trust your pussy leader who speaks like a scared idiot around the rest of the world. He has the ovaries (because they sure are not balls)….to complain about Fox not kissing his azz…like the rest of the Medias! Crybaby

What scares me is the way the other 4…CNN, CBS,ABC & NBC…totally give the B.O….slobby knobbers all the time….and don’t ask the tough questions!

What about ABC’s day long infomercial next week about healthcare…from the WH. Talk about propaganda TV.

Why do repugs believe we believe they are slick, clever, serious? Why do these tenacious teabagging idiots insist on insulting our President of the United States?

harwood, you’d confused wit with being a dimwit. Don’t act as if you asked President Obama the Pulitzer Prize question.

Who could miss the around the clock advertisement/promoting for their racist teabagger party? Another bad idea from the club of starched sheets and no ideas (or proven failed ideas.)

repugs are milking the hell out of their “wonderful” teabags, aren’t they?

Fox was going after Bush about his stimulus package. There is the one you have been asking for. and they had more than one night on it

  144. rickyb2112 says:

This is pretty dumb…. No matter what point of view any station has (and we all know both sides of the spectrum are well represented on our dial)they have the right to voice their opinion. MSNBC has just about crawled in bed with Obama… but they have the right to do it… you can twist news, and show links, conspiracy theories, etc… just don’t LIE when you report the news. Fox does not LIE, and neither does CNN… I don’t really watch MSNBC, but when I have, the bias seems to be on commentary. They have the right to do it. All of them do. Obama is saying Fox is aiming at him? Well, Bush had every station aiming at him… you may think it is OK that they were aiming at that administration and not this one, because you agreed with what was being said, but I don’t see any of these networks really standing up and asking obama the hard questions. He seems to get a pass all the time, and he won’t even come on Fox. Anyway, I think all stations have a right to air what opinions, editorials, etc… Our media is our watchdog. They should all be doing the same job now they were doing during the last administration.
