Appearing on the Washington Times’ America’s Morning News radio show today, former Bush press secretary Dana Perino jumped on the conservative bandwagon and criticized ABC News’ upcoming special “Questions for the President: Prescription for America.” Asked by right-wing host Melanie Morgan what the reaction would be if Fox News had similar access at the Bush White House, Perino laughed and said that “there are a lot of double standards“:
MORGAN: I just keep wondering, you know, what would be the reaction of these same people in the mainstream media if President Bush had allowed, say, Fox News to turn over their entire broadcast from the Blue Room at the White House.
PERINO: Well, you know…
MORGAN: Hahaha, I think we both know the answer that question.
PERINO: Yeah, look, I think there are a lot of double standards. Both, maybe you know, from the right and the left. And so I try not to use it as an excuse or a grudge.

I went to the Airport the other day. The bar had Fox News on. That’s a good viewership, YES? And my dad’s convalescent home’s activity room’s T.V. is always set to Fox News, too. And hey, when I went to visit my brother last month, the T.V. in the Grey Hound terminal lobby? It was on Fox News. Do you really think the coincidences here are because of the quality of programing on behalf of Fox News Corp? Or perhaps, agreements made to have channels “on”? Now THAT’S deep viewership, YES?
A person could say to themselves, “I see Fox News on over here, and I see this place has Fox News on over there, and I see my neighbor has Fox News on and …” soon enough, you’re watching Fox News.

I’m not criticizing you mind you and I understand Mr Snow’s role as a facilitator but the threads about Perino, and given Mister Snow died recently of a horrific death at a very young age, it seems it would become us to show a modicum of respect, irregardless of what we thought of the man.
There’s lines reasonable and decent people don’t cross, like for example saying things like “I find all brown people ugly”.
And I think slurs on the recently dead (unless it’s like Hitler or Kim Jong Ill or something) cross that line.
If this countries ever going to come together we’re going to need to find again the things that combine us, at least with regards to reason. There were times Tony Snow was a likable guy, who tried on more than one occasion to reach across the aisle at least for appearances sake, and that’s a start.
The man died not to long back, at an age many of us are approaching (or looking back on) and it would be nice if we’d set the example for the tone and show a level of respect, at least for the sake of chivalry.
There’s plenty of fish to fry who are still with us.
It would do us no harm to let the ones who have recently passed lie in peace.

He’s not an issue any longer. He was one small part of a very large picture, and his role was limited. He came in long after the real damage had been done, long after the 4th Amendment had been removed. Long after the constitutional provisions for declaring war had been disposed of. Long after the Geneva conventions had been abandoned.
There is a point where we cross a line of reason and basic decency and its the crossing of that line by both sides that makes it impossible for this country to come together and meet somewhere in the middle. All I’m saying is a reasonable respect for things like elderly ladies, a persons skin color, or the recently deceased is a good place to start.
Reasonable, decent people don’t mock and berate those who have recently passed unless that person was some sort of murderous tyrant. Tony Snow was an apologist for the Bush administration, but he was not the incarnate of evil. So why not act like decent people, with at least a modicum of reverence for the recently deceased and a little human decency for his family and friends? What could it hurt?
We’d want the same from them, and whether or not we get it, wouldn’t it be nice if we could at least give it?

Anyway go look at the thread. So far not one insulting comment calling him “snowjob”, or “evil”. In fact no ones mentioning him.
Which once again I am encouraged by, as it shows that there are plenty of TPrs who have a level of grace and compassion that is becoming of a respectable people. Showing a modicum of respect for the recently deceased is not a liberal or conservative quality. It’s a human one. It’s a sign of human decency. And it’s essential to healing rifts between two opposing sides for those willing to meet in the middle.
Your original mention of his name was admittedly somewhat neutral, and I concede that point. But your comments following that were not, and I could see where it was going given the tonality of those coming in at the end of this thread.
See, we got through the entire thread with only one mention of him, and that one being a respectful and poignant, pertinent reference. All of the bloggers in here chose to not drag his name through the mud, and instead focus on the other ample evidence showing the relationship between Fox and the Bush White House, no doubt out of their own innate human decency. So leaving the thread with some last minute focus on him seemed unnecessary, and cheapened the efforts made by everyone to now dwell on that one single aspect out of respect for the recently deceased. That’s all I’m saying.
