Rove: I’m Horrified That A News Network Would Be A ‘Cooperating Partner’ Of The White House

On Wednesday, Fox News’ Sean Hannity brought on former Bush White House adviser Karl Rove to gripe about ABC’s upcoming “Questions for the President: Prescription for America,” which will feature President Obama answering “questions offered by audience members ’selected by ABC News who have divergent opinions‘” on health care. Rove called it “unprecedented access to the White House and more importantly an unprecedented use of the White House.”

Last night, Rove was back on Fox News — this time with Greta Van Susteren — and argued that it was improper for ABC to get the access, considering that former ABC reporter Linda Douglass is now working in the White House:

ROVE: If it’s not crossing a line, it’s getting comfortably too close to a line of where a news network becomes a cooperating partner of and an adjacency to the White House communications shop. And I think the presence of a former ABC reporter as the communicator-in-chief inside the White House on this issue also raises questions about how it ended up in the hands of ABC.

Watch it:

It’s hard to take Rove’s outrage seriously. After all, Fox News’ Bret Baier received “unprecedented access” to the White House (as well as Air Force One and Bush’s ranch in Crawford, TX) in February 2008 for a “documentary” on President Bush. Baier said that the piece offered “a President Bush you’ve never seen before.”

In October 2007, Baier also hosted a special titled “Dick Cheney: No Retreat,” which was “a rare glimpse into the life of the vice president.” Of course, in the period leading up to Fox gaining such extraordinary access, who was the White House press secretary?

Tony Snow…who had previously worked for Fox News.

Transcript:

VAN SUSTEREN: First of all is I confess I would love to do it. I don’t get it. He doesn’t talk to FOX. That’s the first thing. The second thing is, is that, you know, we chased the first lady — former first lady around the Middle East on breast cancer awareness. Now, that wasn’t policy, but that was promoting, you know, a health program. But you know, we had a unique access, but anybody else who wanted to pay the freight, I guess, could have gone along, too, other — there were other empty seats there. Other networks could have.

And the third thing is, is, you know, the next day, we’re going to be doing everything the president hates because we’re going to be going over every single thing he says and challenge it. We’re going to have — you will probably be on and everybody else, and we’re going to have a chance to see what is it the president said. We finally get — you know, we get it laid out, and then we can take a look at it and scrutinize it.

ROVE: Yes. I have two points to make. First of all, we’ll be scrutinizing it the next day, but we won’t be scrutinize that night in front of the big audience that he’ll have having a primetime evening news program on a major network with a unique venue, the East Room of the White House. So he wins no matter what.

Second of all, this is my problem about it from the perspective of the president. He’s devaluing the White House. The White House ought to be used for big things, like major addresses to the country and press conferences and heralding the best of America. He’s turning it into a campaign backdrop. And eventually, it’s going to diminish the White House, as it’s going to diminish him.

I mean, he is in our face all of the time, and I’m not certain, from the White House perspective, that that’s necessarily a healthy thing. I do know that it’s devaluing the White House. And I also know that it’s extraordinary. Tell me one other major network that during any other big battle that a president did a similar kind of a thing. Did they do it when Bush was working for the tax cut or No Child Left Behind? Did they did it when Bill Clinton was trying to pass NAFTA, or trying to pass Hillarycare? Did they do it for Ronald Reagan when he was trying to pass his tax cuts? Did they do it for Jimmy Carter in any of his initiatives? No, this is really unusual, and I think it’s crossing a line.

If it’s not crossing a line, it’s getting comfortably too close to a line of where a news network becomes a cooperating partner of and an adjacency to the White House communications shop. And I think the presence of a former ABC reporter as the communicator-in-chief inside the White House on this issue also raises questions about how it ended up in the hands of ABC.

This fills my weekend with levity; actually, if Stooge Rove wasn’t such an overt hypocrite, it might be something to give a second thought to. Rove’s stooges on Fox Noise are clueless when it comes to truth, obviously, as they mark in moronic lockstep parroting the same lies and misinformation.

Do these individuals believe that they have one shred of cred with the american people at this point?

Fox Noise has become a mere cipher and all but totally irrelevant to the american landscape.

Rove, the criminal who has thus far evaded prosecution for his crimes, doing the talking??? Now we KNOW without a doubt that they’re scratching the bottom of the cesspool to highlight a fraud like Karl Rove.

ahahahahahahah! Fox News has become “the american joke”.

  2. AllYouNeedIs says:

“Unprecedented”. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

  3. chris joseph says:

He’ll be taken seriously by the drooling dolts who’ve always taken him seriously. That’s the real problem.

  4. NOLIESPLEASE says:

Rove horrified?????? Pleaseeeeeeee…..the biggest propaganda machine there is (Rove)is horrified?????? NO I’M HORRIFIED THAT YOUR NOT IN JAIL YET….THATS HORROR!!!

  5. blistex11 says:

Fox Noise (and their sister networks in Hate Radio)= 100% of 20% of the population. Somehow this means something?

  6. blistex11 says:

Jailbird Rove is on borrowed time. By placing his ugly mug front and center as a target of americans anger, it’s time to call for his prosecution now.

  7. blistex11 says:

“Unprecedented”?? Rove is such a pathological liar and fraud that he’s saying things he doesn’t want to spill…like precisely what these clowns called Bush’s docudrama making the case for the Iraq War ….. “unprecedented access” as though it was something to trumpet.

Isn’t it certain that a pathological liar will eventually out themselves by saying precisely that which will indict them?

It’s occurring thorugh the Grand Old Pervert party today.

  9. paleolib says:

Fox wasn’t exactly a “cooperating partner” of the Bush administration. It was more of a wholly owned subsidiary.

  10. Uncle Ho says:

Why isn’t the war criminal Rove dangling from the gallows yet?

  11. JosephP says:

Let’s stop pretending that this is forgetfulness, or merely a shocking inability to see irony.

Karl Rove is simply an audacious liar, in the tradition of Goebbels. He subscribes to the Big Lie Theory—loudly and emphatically accuse your opponent of the exact same thing of which that you yourself are doing.

He knows full well that his current employer Fox is the propaganda arm of the Republican Party.

Imagine if Fox received a letter from a jilted husband naming Senator Chuck Schumer as an adulterer with his wife. Can you imagine the banner headline? However, we now learn that Fox’s Meygn Kelly received such a letter five days ago from Doug Hampton detailing the affair between his wife and Senator John Ensign.

I’m checking the Fox News website twice a minute—so far not a peep.

  12. Zooey says:

Scratching the surface of KKKarl, we find:

*crying, with snot running down his chin* Oh god, oh god, what can I do? Without George in the White House, my whole life is meaningless. Oh god…If only that 90 lb liberal girl hadn’t beaten me up in junior high, I might have been a decent human being…I know, I know…I’ll call up my Fox butt-buddies, and they’ll let me on their shows…and, and I can wear one of my nice suits, and comb what’s left of my hair, and…*sniff*…and I’ll talk smack about the new president…oh god, he really scares me…I wonder if he’d give me a job…NOO!! He wouldn’t! I hate him! Waaaaahhhhhhhh!!! *runs screaming from the room*

  13. majii says:

    Joseph,
IMO, there will not be a peep from Fuchs about how they went behind the husband’s back and called Ensign.

Rove has shown himself to be one of the most prolific liars in the history of the world, and he has plenty of associates just like himself.

  16. ranus69 says:

This is funny to see KKRove “whine” in nimiety (excess) because Fix News has been all but banned from the White House. I wish I could give KKRove a pacifier.

  17. PatrioticLiberalChristianMantisReligiosa says:

    Rove horrified??
I doubt it. I seriously doubt that this creature has a conscience which could be horrified, given all the dirty tricks he himself has been immersed in. This is another example of the Rovian tactic – attack the strength of your opponent. Bush had NO transparency and did not give the media access to anything while Obama is certainly much more transparent and accessible. (Not perfect but a huge improvement.)

  18. ranus69 says:

    Zooey,

    I agree, I can’t watch him either.

  25. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

I’m horrified that the fat turd Rove is still not sitting in some dark cell, yet former Alabama governor Siegelman is in prison and basically a political prisoner of the former regime.

  26. Xisithrus says:

According to Woodward, shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks Roger Ailes [FOX president] sent Bush’s chief political aide, Karl Rove, a confidential memo. Ailes had previously been a media adviser to George H.W. Bush. But “Ailes was not supposed to be giving political advice,” Woodward notes, because he was now running Fox News.

  27. ralph the wonder locust says:

And I think the presence of a former (blank) reporter as the communicator-in-chief inside the White House on this issue also raises questions…

    Tony Snow, anyone?

Okay, KKKarl is not even pretending anymore. He’s just saying, “look, you can point out the facts that make me look like a hypocrite. But it just doesn’t matter, because my peeps will never see the truth of your “Reality-Based Community”. Y’all can’t touch me.”

  28. texasrick says:

I think we’ve all marveled at the audacity of foreign leaders from N. Korea (spying journalists) and Iran (honest elections) who tell outright lies with a straight face and expect the world to believe them.

Then back here in America, we have this idiot Rove who spouts this crap thinking we’ve all forgotten about the Bush years when they were in bed with Fix news.

    Like B. Bunny would say…”what a maroon”!

  29. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Rove and his ilk really do think we are stupid, don’t they. Anyone with an IQ out of room temperature range saw Fox become the right hand of the Whitehouse and the Republican party.

But, I’m all for their whining about the ABC special. It just shows us how ridiculous their party has become.

  30. 5th Estate says:

You know who else had unprecedented access?

John Ensign to his staffer’s wife.

Also Megyn Kelly apparently had unprecedented access to the staffer’s wife’s husband who apparently was asking Megyn for her ‘help’ about the wife-boning, FIVE DAYS before Ensign ‘fessed up.

GOP News: We Decide what’s Fair.

  31. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

Rove really is counting on the stupidity of Faux news viewers isn’t he?

  32. ElBruce says:

Now, that wasn’t policy, but that was promoting, you know, a health program.

Health programs aren’t policy? Alright, we’re going to hold you to that, Greta.

    .

This the part that really offends me:

He’s devaluing the White House. The White House ought to be used for big things, like major addresses to the country and press conferences and heralding the best of America. He’s turning it into a campaign backdrop. And eventually, it’s going to diminish the White House, as it’s going to diminish him.

It is widely known that the main power the President has is the “bully pulpit” – that is, the use of the trappings and respect of the office to popularize your agenda with the voters. That’s precisely what Obama is doing, and as he is the POTUS, he gets to. That in no way “diminishes” the office.

Rove is just basically complaining that Obama is President and Rove doesn’t think he ought to be.

  33. Xisithrus says:

Rove was on a non-stop campaign the entire time he was at the White House and we saw Georges approval ratings ‘devalued’ way down.

Plus Rove is a political hack and I have no reason to listen to his incessant partisan bloviating about anything.

  34. pags2 says:

Rove, Van Sustren and Fox News-hardly worth a mention in any other media because we already know what Rove’s opinion is on any subject.

  35. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    chris joseph Says:
He’ll be taken seriously by the drooling dolts who’ve always taken him seriously. That’s the real problem.

It’s not that big of a problem. There are not that many of them and they are dying off daily.

DailyKos TV has a great mashup of Fox News talking about “unprecedented access” – quick cuts back and forth between their crowing about their own access to both Bush and Cheney, and decrying ABC’s access to Obama. It ends with a couple of False Noise talking heads lamenting the death of journalism. It’s actually hilarious to see them contradicting themselves so blatantly.

  55. Bob says:

What network is giving ample air time to him and what other networks has he been on? This viewpoint has no defense, and he’s arguing it in an echo chamber.

So Rove thinks that health care is not a big thing? I hope that Fox which is NOT a major network as they pointed out gets a clue that ABC, NBC and CBS are using the PUBLICS airwaves. In fact they should do more of this because this is the media’s job to inform people. I think there is a lot of sour grapes there from Rove because he wasn’t smart enough to do this for Bush. They should also remember that the White House is the PEOPLES House so where better to have the President explain his health care proposal which will affect all of the citizens in this Country which he leads.

    Source?

When students are learning to write research papers and persuasive essays, they also learn the difference between needing to cite information/sources and not needing to, if such information is common knowledge.

Trolls apparently fall short in distinguishing the two.

  92. DRxJ says:

Awwwwwww, did our new widdle wolly twollie not want to play?

Yeah, it’s hard to back up posts when they are blatantly full of lies! Your silence, and lack thereof for providing proof of hatred among our community, speaks volumes.

Sorry Pee, but your concerned act was caught, filleted, and cooked over a smoke pit!

Feigned indignation from the most unethical and corrupt Rove.

TP has noted Tony Snow – who worked for years for FOX – but he’s dead now, so presumably the public has forgotten.
Jeff Gannon had plenty of access to the WH when Rove was there.
Watching these pigs squeal is becoming a circus show.
The the head hog is Rove.

What do either dailykos or Keith Olbermann have to do with this topic? This is about Karl Rove’s audacious (good word) lies. You do understand that Rove is not being truthful, do you? (For the sake of clarity, when I say the words “not being truthful”, I mean he is leaving out information which, if revealed, would put all these “questions” he has in a different light, and show that what he says doesn’t match reality. He knows he is not being truthful. Do you?)

    i love america Says:

The republicans have done very good things for this country, including Karl Rove.

Let’s list just a few, shall we?

    1. Censoring scientific reports
    2. Signing statements undermining legislation
    3. K Street
    4. Warrantless wiretaps
    5. Pipelining cherry-picked intelligence past analysts
    6. Unneccessary war
    7. Imprisoning people without trial
    8. Torture
    9. Deregulation
    10. Massive economic collapse

If you believe any of these things were “good,” then you hate America.

Karl Rove in particular is the architect of slash-and-burn politics that hit below the belt whenever possible. The behavior you see from the left is merely the only effective response to it. It took us eight years to realize that we can’t just be a bunch of latte-sipping nonviolent grownups when the other side is going to fight hard and dirty every time. So now we fight back. That’s what Rove did for the country.

For some reason I always think of pigs squealing when I see Rove.
    He is one creepy dude.
Check out his family history. He is carrying some serious psychological baggage.

I loathe that fat, lying little maggot and all the rest of the corrupt, evil, sniveling, fearmongering, greedy barstid Repukes for what they’ve done to this country -!!

  105. American Patriot says:

Fox New is denying claims that Doug Hampton — whose wife Cynthia is the other woman in Senator John Ensign’s sex scandal — sent the network a letter pleading for help exposing the affair five days before the Senator announced it in a press conference and that Ensign came forward with the affair because he knew Fox was working on the story.

  106. Patty says:

    American Patriot Says:
Fox New is denying claims that Doug Hampton . . . sent the network a letter . . .

Ahhh, it’s lovely when trolls begin to catch on to the wylie ways of Karl Rove and Company: word-parsing.

Doug Hampton, it seems, didn’t send the network a letter; he sent it to a person affiliated with the network.

When one tunes into Mr. Rove’s antics, such word-parsing is readily apparent. He will deny, for example, telling someone or some office to do something; that does not mean he did not in some other way communicate such direction.

The phrase “the whole truth” means nothing to him.

  110. wdvandertex says:

There is a slight difference between the Foxnews access and the ABC infomercial supporting the administrations health plan. Foxnews was distributing information about a lame-duck president 11 months from the end of his 2nd term. The ABC infomercial will be promoting a huge change of lifestyle for every American.

This change of lifestyle will include significantly higher taxes (sales, sin, income) as advertised by several different democrat Congressmen today. There is a difference between the two programs.

BTW, the amount of tolerance exhibited by 90% of the comments would seem to indicate the exact opposite. Have a great day and God Bless you.

  111. diffrntdrummr says:

I agree Carl! I think you should resign from Faux News immediately

  112. Robt says:

I do recall the exclusive interviews with FOX. Although it wasn’t with reporters or journalists from FOX. It was with “Commentators” and “talking heads”. Of course they happened to be vigiliant GOP zelalots of the airwaves.

Lets see, Bill ORielly was one. There was Sean Hannity. No Shep Smith?
VP Cheney after sobering up, went on FOX to interview on how sorry Cheney’s close friend and legal council was for getting shot in the face by Cheney. Oh, the probing questions and retorting questions to those hard answers. Would make Iran’s news corps look so free and uncontrolled by Iran’s Gov’t in comparrison.

And we’re horrified that Karl Rove hasn’t yet been sent to Leavenworth.
