As ThinkProgress reported this morning, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) refused to meet with Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor after she was delayed ten minutes by her recent ankle injury. In the wake of these reports, Corker spokesperson Laura Lefler says that the meeting has been rescheduled:
“Sen. Corker’s meeting with Judge Sotomayor has been rescheduled for tomorrow,” Lefler said. “Sen. Corker was originally scheduled to meet with Judge Sotomayor last week, but when he arrived at the Capitol for the meeting, the Judge was running behind. It was decided that rather than rush or cut short his meeting with Judge Sotomayor and be late for his next meeting, it would be best to reschedule.“
While meeting with Sotomayor is a positive first step, it remains to be seen whether Corker can keep an open mind and consider voting for her nomination.

you wouldn’t recognize a college education if it was dicking your sister…

June 22nd, 2009 at 2:56 pmIt must be in training. I understand the troll masters frequently hand their interns pre-scripted gibberish and send them out to copy-and-paste, just to get the hang of the process. They also want to see if they can count on their charges to carry out orders without thinking.
It helps that their recruits are largely incapable of thinking independently in the first place.
June 22nd, 2009 at 2:57 pmCorker’s gonna vote against her nomination. She’s wasting her time with this glorified hillbillyinasuit.
June 22nd, 2009 at 2:58 pmOf course, the college education would have to wait its turn and be happy with sloppy seconds after our friend got finished…

June 22nd, 2009 at 3:00 pmI wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for any Republicans to endorse her let alone vote for her.

June 22nd, 2009 at 3:07 pmSo, she was 10 minutes late… he decided to go to his next meeting… I guess that means he was initially scheduled to have a 10 minute meeting with Sotomayor. WOW! she was scheduled in for a whole 10 mnutes!
Can you believe this nonsense?

June 22nd, 2009 at 3:07 pmWe should maybe feel a little bad for the new spamming troll. It is clear that it taxed its brain to the max to come up with little ditty so it feels a need to post it everywhere.
Maybe it didn’t get its candle?
June 22nd, 2009 at 3:08 pmThat was a quick. Somebody must have embarrassed Corker about his behavior.
June 22nd, 2009 at 3:09 pmSotomayor should just blow him off totally. He will never vote for her so why bother. Giving him anything which could be construed as respect is wrong. She should make a statement to the press about his actions and be specific. She should show him for the petty, arrogant, resentful crap he is. She should NOT meet with him under any circumstances, and address this during open questioning on C-Span. What we want on the Supreme Court is one tough broad. Not someone who will allow any of that Power to Truth crap to effect her interpretation of our Law. She should just show her Independence and kick his ass in front of everybody.
June 22nd, 2009 at 3:12 pmcorking good stupidity, huh Senator?
O/T: Republican Senators don’t seem to have a problem with accepting free, socialized government-run health care for themselves, their families, and their staffs. No problemo there… Republicans are also flaming hypocrites about free elections in Iran. Funny, these gOP big-mouths were silent as mice back in 2000, 2002 and 2004 when the Republicans were hacking, rigging, fixing, Diebolding and stealing our elections…

June 22nd, 2009 at 3:19 pmSo “ten minutes” would have made him LATE for his NEXT meeting?
So we can assume that he only allowed 7 minutes or so, to meet with the next person to have a LIFETIME appointment to the highest court in the NATION???
Guess his next meeting must have been REAL important . . . was it a pharma lobbyist or a Klan robe fitting?

I respectfully disagree. As much as I would like to see these obstructionist Republicans kicked to the curb, it would not benefit Sotomayor to get into playground fights.
Yes, we want a “tough broad” on the court (even though that particular term tends to make me gag). But we also want one who is fair, objective, and doesn’t get swayed by petty grievances — in other words, a grownup.
Someone once told me that the best way to combat bad manners is with good ones. Sonia Sotomayor will achieve far more by behaving as she has been — with class. And by doing so, her conservative opponents will be shown for what they are (and by not rising to their bait, Sotomayor won’t be giving them any ammunition against her).
That said — Corker did the right thing by rescheduling the appointment. Now, let’s let him have his meeting with her and wait and see if he keeps an open mind or pulls an Inhofe before condemning him further.
June 22nd, 2009 at 3:26 pmHe should go to her this time instead of vice versa.
