GOP distributes candles to ‘thank’ Obama for ‘taxing our lights out.’

The Republican National Committee has sent candles to lawmakers on Capitol Hill and released a web video claiming climate legislation will “tax our lights out.” Notes attached to the candles protest the Waxman-Markey American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454), claiming that the bill’s cap on global warming pollution will make it impossible for Americans to use electricity:

If Democrats pass ‘Cap and Tax,’ this is all the energy American families and businesses will be able to afford. Don’t tax our lights out!

Watch the video:

In reality, the Congressional Budget Office found last Friday “that the net annual economy-wide cost of the cap-and-trade program in 2020 would be $22 billion — or about $175 per household” — less than the cost of a postage stamp a day. The CBO analysis, done at the request of Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), found that the 23 million Americans “in the lowest income quintile — would see an average net benefit of about $40 in 2020.”

Update Paul Krugman comments:
The point is that we need to be clear about who are the realists and who are the fantasists here. The realists are actually the climate activists, who understand that if you give people in a market economy the right incentives they will make big changes in their energy use and environmental impact. The fantasists are the burn-baby-burn crowd who hate the idea of using government for good, and therefore insist that doing the right thing is economically impossible.

Since Obama has taken office and taxed me beyond I belief, I had to electric service cut 4 times and cable TV cut 3 times, had my car repoed 2 twice, lost 3 credit cards, and my 5 cats quit eating.

Oh yeah? Well since President Obama took office, i lost 6 jobs, was evicted from 13 apartments, had 9 cars repossessed, and 8 of my cats cannibalized each other.

…Stop blaming the fact that your taxes haven’t increased a damn cent, you schmuck

LOL. Do these guys really have nothing better to do? I’ve got a bunch of shrubs that need trimming if they’re that desperate for a project. And I’ve got a neighbor who doesn’t pick up after his St. Bernard if they need a new cause.

But according to Faux News the tea-bagger parties were a smashing success. LOL! Yeah, a success to the righties! Meanwhile, young people don’t give a crap. You lose the youth, you are irrelevant.

Same old trying to scare the masses talk from the GOP. I don’t think many people are listening anymore. We’ve already been scared by reality: job loss, lack of health insurance, fear of losing our homes. I think people are ready for a better way, both on health care and energy policy. The GOP has no ideas and will become increasingly irrelevent.

  11. A Patriotic Anopheles Acting says:

The DNC should send a flat-bed full of horse shit over to the RNC headquarters and drop it on their front doorstep to thank them for a generation’s worth of failed ideas, failed policies and for their unending devotion to waisting time, money and effort on utter nonsense. What has the RNC accomplished so far this year? Let’s see, meaningless resolutions, divisive rhetoric, obstruction on the Hill, the gleeful spread of lies and mis-information pertaining to much needed and overwhelmingly wanted progressive legislation, anonymous holds put on cabinet picks and all around cry-babiness.

    New Heating bill – 70 a month

    In the dead of winter.

If only Bush and Cheney hadn’t created the the worst economic disaster since the “Great Depression”. Bush is the Enron President.

If only Bush and Cheney hadn’t invaded two countries in the Middle East, at a cost of almost $3 trillion to American taxpayers. That cost continues to grow.

If only Bush and Cheney hadn’t given Clinton’s $5 trillion budget surplus (our money) to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

It’s going to take 100 years to repair the damage that Bush and Cheney caused to America.

I’ve never gotten a good answer from climate change deniers when I’ve posed the following question:

why is it that whenever someone disputes the science of global climate change, they ALWAYS turn out to be politically conservative?

It’s not really a partisan question. It’s science. it’s complex science, certainly, but it’s science. Yet I’ve never run across a liberal who disputes the science outright. Some have a healthy skepticism, of course, but none I’ve ever met treat it as an emotional investment like right-wingers do. Nor moderates, either. It’s just right-wingers.

    Is it their anti-science bias?

    Their resentment against common interest?

A reaction against some perceived “blame humans” thing?

    Weird.
