Wow Max you are incredible. You obviously have proof that the U.S. purposely as policy killed detainees! You wouldn’t say this if it wasn’t true would you? And I trust you didn’t get your information from a website. I bet you read a lot but probably have never seen war. You probably have never seen human rights groups look the other way when the monstrous acts are ethnic against ethnic. You probably have never seen a U.N peace force desert a town or village because there might be shooting leaving the residents to be murdered like they did in the Balkans. And you have never seen a U.S. Marine stand a bridge protecting innocent people from those that are out to murder them. No where do I claim we are virtuous. But to buy into ever BBC interview and left wing web posting is unbelievable when there are thousands of U.S. troops worldwide doing their duty every day.

I hate to admit it but I think you may be right. Can’t watch countdown as I just can’t listen to guys that lie. The reality is our troops are building schools, hospitals, and community centers and standing the post. To make claim that terrorist are justified in their actions because we don’t set some moral standard at a time of war is lunacy. And only fools buy the BBC interviews.

No one is arguing that Americans haven’t been killed or tortured. People are arguing that these murders, in no way, justify our ability to exact the same. For when we do, we legitimise what was done to our men/women.

Max: We don’t do the same! But my point is why this website would accept the statements by these detainees without question from the interviews with the BBC. Where is the balance? And how can anyone state like MapleStreet where in point 1 states “quite predictable as we have tortured them”. I have never and would never support torture. I do not accept that the actions we have taken legitimize the actions of our enemies to be-head and murder Americans. And this is where you and I differ. You see our enemies as a simple people justifying their actions because of gitmo. I see our enemy as an educated force using the BBC and others to propagandize their cause. And their cause is murder.

You’re making my point for me – simultaneously and in 2 different ways.

1) By your post, they are torturing us – which is quite predictable as we have tortured them.

2) You’re condoning our torture under the guise that they torture us. So why do you think we can deny them from excusing their torture under the grounds that we torture them ?

Americans captured in Iraq and Afganistan are Tortured and murdered. Haven’t any of you read what happened to Americans captured in Iraq? And the detainees?

In war we are terrible as war is terrible! Perhaps you need to get involved in one to see the reality. I’ve had ak47’s put to my head twice by children in Africa wondering each time if this was the one to pull the trigger. I have seen what our troops do in Bosnia from my charity work. I have not been in Iraq or Afganistan but know many serving there. American troops are on the ground worldwide standing between the inocent and those that would murder them. And every time an innocent is killed, it is blamed on the U.S. Bush was too secretive. I think Obama can change the propaganda war as I believe they will listen to him. And put these detainees on trial and give them a public defender! But for those released telling the world their lies? I don’t buy it. Remember one said the tortue was worse under Obama.

Because we were offering $5,000 to any Afghans who would provide information on suspected Taliban and al-Qa’ida members. In a country with an annual per capita income of $800, that’s quite a lot of money. Add to this the fact that Afghanistan is a very tribal society with a history of conflict where grudges can go back decades or longer.

Given all that, it’s pretty easy to see how a lot of innocent people would have been turned in to U.S. and Afghan authorities as suspects by individuals who wanted to make a quick 5 grand while getting rid of a rival.

Just like U.S. criminals in prison they are all innocent of course. But as a conservative, let’s put them on trial in the U.S., convict them, and put them in an 8’ x 8’ x 8’ cell for 23 hours a day with three other prisoners like we do for American convicts.
