Maryland GOP group distances itself from letter comparing Obama to Hitler: We ‘never approved it.’

thomann As former TP editor Judd Legum reported earlier this week, the website of the Republican Women of Anne Arundel County — “one of Maryland’s most prominent Republican organizations” — prominently featured a letter from RWAAC President Joyce Thomann that compared Obama to Hitler. “Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view,” she wrote. That letter has now been taken down and replaced with an “urgent message“:

The article put on our web site by Joyce Thomann was done solely by her. Our Board of Directors never saw the article and would never have approved it. We are not in support of Mrs. Thomann’s personal thoughts ot [sic] opinions.

Ms. Thomann’s husband, Charles, told the Baltimore Sun that the letter “wasn’t meant in the way people are taking it.” He conceded that “maybe she wasn’t as artful as she could have been,” but said the main point was still valid: “The methods that [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and [President] Obama are using to get the socialist view point across, is similar to what Hitlder [sic] did. … I happen to be a history teacher.”

“Chicago thug in chief” ang Hitler have nothing in common…oh wait…polarizing wealthy classes and poor classes…

You’re the ones who are doing that. We’re just trying to fix the country. Most rich people are alright. But you’re the ones who are trying to get a flat tax, kill the estate tax, kill the capital gains tax, and generally give the rich a free pass to ride off of the hard work of everybody else. Most of the people saying this stuff aren’t particularly wealthy (like yourself) but are still pushing the interests of the rich at the expense of everyone else. “Economic conservatism” exists solely for the purpose of inciting class warfare.

    .

    FreeMarketLiberal Says:

…were the Jews the wealthy class in Germany?

Not so much. Typically upper-middle class due to their high literacy rate, but generally across the board as with most groups. But it’s interesting that you swallowed that bit of Nazi propaganda.

Oh, my mistake, Chuckie is an adjunct prof at the local community college. Now I am totally impressed. Pity the reporter didn’t ask him if he had ever heard of Godwin’s Law. I know the Republicans have gotten even dumber over the past few years but you don’t win this argument. Apologize or better yet, since we don’t need another “sorry if I offended anyone” nonapology, just shut up.

    ____________________________________________________________

Um…apparently this guy didn’t even read his wife’s letter. That wasn’t the point she was making at all. She was comparing Obama’s method of pushing his policies to Hitler’s bombing of Poland (you know, “blitzkrieg”), not the way Hitler sold his ideology to the German people.

And this is kind of ironic on a couple of counts. First, Hitler’s “blitzkrieg” could be equated with today’s “shock and awe” — a military strategy more associated with Bush than with Obama. Second, there are a number of us who WISH that Obama would work with Pelosi and Reid to ram through some needed legislation to fix health care, DADT, and a number of other issues. But instead all we get is dithering and waffling, much to our frustration. It’s hardly the “blitzkrieg” Joyce Thomann would have us believe. In fact, it’s kind of difficult to find a whole lot of valid comparison between Obama and Hitler — except that both men could draw a crowd, and both men (presumably) pee standing up.

But she’s just trying to rally her troops, who will obediently mobilize like the koolaid drinkers they are. They don’t care that what she says is absurd, let alone hateful. The Hitler comparison was only there to inflame.

On the other hand, the republicans scream ‘elitism’ about a guy who likes Dijon mustard, while trying to keep dynastic fortunes intact by eliminating the estate tax and making profits from stocks less highly taxed than income earned by working–all the while thumping the tub of Social Darwinism.
