On his radio show today, global warming denier Glenn Beck played an audio clip of Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine speaking favorably of cap-and-trade, but saying it would be “difficult” to do it in Virginia alone. “This is something that is much better done, either on a very huge regional basis or a national basis,” said Kaine. Kaine’s comments caused Beck to accuse cap-and-trade supporters of being “the dumbest people to ever walk the face of the Earth,” “greedy,” “wicked” and even “treasonous“:
BECK: And these people know it. They are either the dumbest people to ever walk the face of the Earth, which I think some of them are. They are just greedy and just want their own power and their own control, which I think some of them are. Or, they believe in a different system other than the Republic, which I think some of them do. They are, they have exposed themselves as incompetent. They have exposed themselves as wicked. They have exposed themselves, quite honestly I think, as treasonous. I think some of them are treasonous. They have exposed themselves. Now the question is are there enough people in America still that believes in liberty and freedom and the Constitution?
Listen here:
Transcript:
BECK: If we have the audio from WRVA, this is the governor of Virginia on the phone, either doing a, you know, ask the governor kind of thing. And he’s on and they’re talking about cap and trade and they’ve got a guy who is for cap and trade in the audience on the phone. Listen to this exchange.JOE: This is Joe.
KAINE: Hey Joe.
JOE: Oh, sorry, I’m a little nervous. Governor, thank you for your work. I applaud it. I think you’re doing a good job. I appreciate your support for cap and trade and universal health care.
KAINE: Absolutely Joe.
JOE: And my question is if federal government fails, will you please try to implement a version of cap and trade and universal health care in Virginia. Will you do that? Can you do that for us?
KAINE: Well, yeah Joe, let me take them both.
HOST: Conservatives, by the way at this point, fasten your seatbelts. Go ahead sir.
KAINE: Yeah, it would, it would be difficult for me to do either cap and trade or universal health care as governor if the feds don’t do it. I mean, I do think we’ve got to have a cap and trade or equivalent system to start to control carbon emissions. And we have to do it in a way that, you know, deals with our environmental challenges, doesn’t overly cripple industry, but that also is a strong enough leadership step so that there’s a meeting of world nations at Copenhagen in December. We really need India and China to do it too. You know, we don’t want to do it — they need to do that because they’re such growing economies. They won’t do it if we don’t.
HOST: Well, they won’t do it period, but that aside.
KAINE: Well, I think, I think that there’s a good chance that they will. Actually, there’s some good things that China’s doing that’s ahead of us on this right now.
BECK: What kind of, where is, what planet is he on?
KAINE: But they’re growing economies at a pace where they have their own challenges, but if we do not walk into Copenhagen in a leadership position, they’re going to not do anything either.
BECK: Right, because we don’t have challenges.
KAINE: So, I think we do need to move. But cap and trade program just in one state, frankly, I do not think is that workable.
HOST: Well, if Virginia were the only, let’s say for the sake of argument, that Virginia were the only state to do something like that, we wouldn’t become the most business friendly state anymore.
KAINE: Yeah.
HOST: They’d be, there’d be, manufacturers in particular.
BECK: He agrees.
HOST: They wouldn’t be looking at Virginia, would they?
KAINE: Right. This is something that is much better done, either on a very huge regional basis or a national basis. That doesn’t mean…
BECK: Ok. Stop. Ok, stop looking at our country as anything, but what are they trying to do? We are in a global economy, right? That’s all they ever say. We’re in a global economy. Then our country is like a state. And the world is like our country. You can’t do this. If you think that China is going to do this because we’re leading, they’re going to laugh at us. No, actually, they’re going to be pissed at us because we’re not going to be able to afford our debt. You think India, they don’t want to live — have you seen the river over there, I mean it’s like sacred, no it’s not it’s full of poop and stuff. I mean nobody wants, you think they want to live like that? No. Men want to pull themselves out of the muck and if they can do it, they’ll do it. You’re not going to go and cap and trade. It’s suicide. If doing it in just Virginia makes it so unfriendly to business then why would we be doing it in the U.S.? I mean, doesn’t that make the U.S. unfriendly in business? Yes! Yes, yes, yes.
And these people know it.
The dumbest people on the Earth vote Republican.
There are 55 Million of them in this country.
How can we stop the psychotic disorder of being a Republican from spreading.
June 26th, 2009 at 7:41 pmAre there genetic factors associated with psychotic disorder?
Some psychotic disorders, like Schizophrenia, tend to run in families. If someone has a psychotic disorder, it is quite likely that another member of his/her immediate or extended family also has had a psychotic disorder.

Your unhinging in not making you look good. Why don’t you try to come up with something constructive instead of stupid negativity. You guys will never get into the majority again standing for nothing or just being against everything. Are you too lame brained to figure that out? You offer nothing. You are mad that Obama won the election. Okay. Get the hell over it. You are going to have him for a master for eight years, like it or not. The larger goal is achieved: There will be financial incentives to limit your polluting and financial penalties for creating pollution. It puts a ‘price’ on polluting.
June 26th, 2009 at 8:27 pmobama only cut taxes for people who are still working. what about the folks who were laid off and can’t find a job in this economy but owe money to the IRS – why isn’t there a tax credit to provide relief of their debt in a economic downturn that prevents them from working to pay it off?
June 26th, 2009 at 8:28 pmThe more the wingnuts talk the more foolish they appear. Send them all some speed and let ‘em rap!
June 26th, 2009 at 8:34 pmThing is, they’ll remain as calculated and ruthless as before. What is the point in polluting less only to sell your pollution credits to some big polluter? It certainly doesn’t help with global warming. We need to show them the inside of a cell, not give them a slap on the wrist that they already accounted for.

June 26th, 2009 at 8:42 pmArgument for regulation, no?
This guy is quite the scam artist. It takes a lot of practice and in all likelihood, coaching, to mimic the agitated state of a paranoid this well. He even comes close to mimicking manic states at times, which is impossible to completely nail. The Republican party isn’t benefiting from this, even if they think they are, but Beck is getting richly rewarded. He is to the Republican party what Elmer Gantry is to Christianity.

June 26th, 2009 at 10:06 pmGlenn Beck is all those things. Dumb, stupid, treasonous, wicked and most of all without intelligence or honor. He will say anything to remain where his is. And where he is, it’s called Fix.
He was probably easier to take when he drank. He was a real booser.
June 26th, 2009 at 11:00 pmSounds like Beck is describing himself.
June 26th, 2009 at 11:16 pmThe only plausible explanation for Glenn Beck is that he’s dyslexic and gets right and left confused. He’s describing the Bush administration here, but due to his brain being miswired he thinks he’s describing the left. We should really pity him and hope he eventually gets the help he needs.
June 26th, 2009 at 11:46 pmBeck is one of Murdoch Hacks. These guys exist in Newt’s altered reality. I guess you could say Beck is a member of the twilight zone.
There is something that irritates the hell out of me about Beck. The willingness to slander good people and polarize an issue till it barely resembles what you started with.
Don’t let it be said that Murdoch hires the best and brightest. He sticks to mean and nasty!
June 27th, 2009 at 12:22 amGlenn Beck talks about treason, when The Bush Administration put us in a Police State unknowingly, via the Patriot Act. People who have ling ailments and can’t breath will benifit frim this. We could never speak our minds.
June 27th, 2009 at 6:46 amFunny how Glenn Beck uses “I think” a lot when he talks, but rarely ever does it.
June 27th, 2009 at 6:53 amThe amazing thing about the republican/conservative talking points is that the ones pushing them know the truth about the policies and have no remorse about lying to and misleading their listeners for the sake of celebrity, power, and money. They don’t care about their followers or the country. Their main mode of thinking seems to be I’ve got mine, it’s up to you to get yours, and the people exist for our exploitation. We do it because we know that our base will believe whatever we tell them to believe as long as we include certain keywords like patriotism, treason, socialism, government run, etc.

June 27th, 2009 at 8:54 amGee–a free market incentive to reduce pollution…
and the people who just looove that free market scrream bloody murder.
The good thing that this does is it puts polluting in the balance sheet.
Rather than a crime, it’s a cost. With the crime model, the reaction of corporate pollutrs was to lawyer up, hunker down, and whine about tree-huggers (or have their surrogates like Beck do so.) The results were endless EPA laawsuits that get dropped when Republicans come into power.
With cap-annd-trade, it becomes something more effective and harder to deal with than an ideal for the gummint–it becomes a source of revenue.
You’ve got to understand–corporations are extremely low forms of life, like slime molds. When they come upon a resource, they will feed on it as fast as they can, until they’ve used it all up, and then they will emit a high-pitvhed whining sound ass they search for more . There’s very ;little intelligence involved. The business press will amplify the whining and turn it into philosophical lamentation, and wonder how terrible it is that we have made our slime-mold overlords unhappy.
In ages past, I miht have wanted to confront the free-marketeer, asking how we introduce the very real cost of polluting into the equations by which the free market works. And I might have expected an intelligent answer.
Foolish me.
If you ask for a counter-response to cap-and-trade from the free marketeers, they don’t bother with one (while progressives will)–they don’t give as hit about it. They will instead just echo that corporate whining , reduce free-market thought to a cultic belief that if we just give the corporations absolutely everything they want, magically things will get better. One day. Somehow. Except for losers.
And then they’ll burst into tears.

I don’t need to ask myself why – Republicans care more about money than they do about humanity, and Democrats care more about humanity than they do about money. That Bible that Republicans like to beat people over the head with has some stuff to say about this. You’ve heard of The Bible, I’m sure? I find it an interesting, though not particularly well-written, piece of fiction. I’m sure you’ll find it entertaining. The central character in the second half of the book, called “Jesus,” has A LOT to say about the love of money, and how people should treat others. Perhaps you should give it a read.
You apparently value money over people as well, since the only thing you had to say was regarding how financially well-off people are, regardless of the off-topic nature of such a statement. Money isn’t everything, man. People are important, too, and those that put their earnings over the well-being of their fellow world citizens are such pathetic excuses for human beings, I don’t know why anyone would want to associate with them. Most of us learned why selfishness was bad in Kindergarten. Were you absent that day?
The vast majority of the people in this country don’t give a shit about businesses or the ability of CEOs to fly on private jets. We are more concered with being able to breath, sending our kids to decent schools, and being able to go to the doctor when we are sick. Until the Republicans can come up with some types of solutions to these problems, I frankly don’t give a damn whether they make more money than Democrats, and neither does the other 70% of the country that identifies themselves as anything except Republican.
June 29th, 2009 at 2:55 pmWE ARE CANADA!
(Canadian A Unique Identity)
Canadians are becoming self aware, and see themselves literally, as having a quite, (1) one of a kind, unique identity, a stronger sovereign nation, walking out the door each morning choosing to accept the risks of the day that they will face, facing the worlds reality, with the knowledge that nothing last forever, (This To Shall End), nothing stays the same, able to look itself in the mirror with a New Self Confidence, with a Secure and Well Defined Reflection, of Clarity and Purpose, no longer hiding their collective head in the sand and see it in fact as a disadvantage to do so. Canadians have always reached out in a bold way to provide assistance to those needier, and have been willing to pay the price (119) One-Hundred-Nineteen, Canadian Flag draped coffins in the latest helping hand endeavor, knowing that to do nothing Canada would have failed, willing to stumble and fall, but always picking up and carrying on in the Canadian way, walking just a little bit taller with just a little more pride and determination, an sense of confidence, this is the Sovereign Nation of Canada, and WE ARE CANADA! Viewing this (DIA) Deep Integration Agenda, as simply beyond being creditable and are beginning to stand up with self determination, for the sovereignty of its democracy, and will not be relegated to the scrap heap of the (DIA), tolerated as irrelevant by the Empire at best. Canada need no longer talk to or be talked to as less than equals in the New Geo-Sphere Global Community, and has sizable clout to bring in all formal Geo-Sphere Global negotiations, and policies that are in the best interests of Canadians first and always, no longer having a preoccupation fixed national gaze upon their collective belly buttons, taking decisive steps, in their place in the New Geo-Sphere Community. WE ARE CANADA!
(Trilateral Commission Economic Integration Vision)
The world needs Canada as a more gentle counterbalance to the neighborhood bully Empire, with its manic episodes on the world stage, which the New Geo-Sphere Global Community can and will survive without, and does not rotate around the Empire. Canadians have little appetite, for and are beginning to view The (DIA), Deep Integration Agenda constantly being pushed by the corporate-political elite of the Trilateral Commission and the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, the forming of a customs union either leading to political union, or a political vacuum and instability at the centre of such a union, with unshared values and cultures, not Canadian values and ultimately lost to an unholy union, as the Empire moves increasingly away from the rule of law and increasingly resembles a Tyrant Global Police State and even if reduced only to trade, will not succeed, as the single greatest threat to Canadian sovereignty and democracy. And the (3) Three way marriage between Canada, The Empire, and Mexico as a failed marriage, and that Canada would be wasting its time in any efforts to, smooth out, work thru, make adjustments, that would little chance of bringing about fair, efficient, or effective way of dealing with (FTA, NAFTA, NACC, SPP Security and Prosperity Partnership for a move toward a common security perimeter an deepening of the (DIA)), and in fact would be in a serious asymmetrical disadvantage driven by the Empire. Canadians feel it is time to begin the process of disentangling from the Empire which has consistently failed to under value the contributions of Canada to the Empire, as Canada waits to be noticed as a New Canada, that needs the Empire far less than the Empire need Canada, in the new Geo-Sphere Global Community, that Canada need no longer go Cap In Hand, as a negligible given reality in the New Geo- Sphere Global Reality, to the Empire. WE ARE CANADA!
(We Are Canada!)
No pain, no gain,Canada must concentrate upon deepening economic integration with the new rising economic powers negotiating trading alliances with The (BRIC) Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, The (PRC) Peoples Republic of China, widening its Economic Alliances, outside of the (DIA), with protectionism is the normal mix of those interests, trying to avoid any short-term pain at so high a long-term cost to Canadian sovereignty is not the answer, as to the relationship with the Empire, at the end of the day, they need us more than we need them. The Empire needs Canadian resources limited and in demand resources, which other markets are now competing for, markets that over-ride the geography proximity of the Empire. And until the day the Empire begins to recognize this and set on the task of developing a sounder, smarter basis, of relationship with Canada, making the marching toward a common destiny of continentalism, based upon geography, and a common boarder irrelevant. It has come time for Canada to radically diversify its Empire dependency, s minimize Canadian dependency on the Empire. While retaining those markets which Canada can reasonably hold and expand. Canada should no longer, have to fight tooth and nail to achieve a fair deal. There are others with a greater sense of fairness. Canada must do business with the world, while keeping Canadian best interests in mind, a position Canada will be respected for it. Canada has and over dependent, Geo-Economic portfolio, of between (70% – 80%) with the Empire, pulling the majority of its eggs into a fast falling apart Economic Empire Basket, with the dollar dropping in a correlation between dollars printed and market value, with each new percent printed, dropping in value by a percent on the Geo-Economic Market. In the (21st) XXI, Twenty-First Century, Canada must become fully Economically integrated both with Canadian Economic Spheres, but with the New Geo-Sphere Global Reality, no longer worth giving a second let alone first taught, by the Empire, or the Worlds Community, but as a full member of the New Geo-Sphere Global Reality, WE ARE CANADA!
