Limbaugh: Obama is ‘behaving like an African colonial despot.’

On his radio show today, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh quoted at length from a new article in the American Thinker entitled, “Obama, the African Colonial” by L.E. Ikenga who identifies herself as a “first generation born West African-American woman.” In the article Ikenga argues that Obama is best understood through his “identification with his father” and his adoption of a “political mindset rooted in post colonial Africa”:

Like many educated intellectuals in post colonial Africa, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was enraged at the transformation of his native land by its colonial conqueror. But instead of embracing the traditional values of his own tribal cultural past, he embraced an imported Western ideology, Marxism. I call such frustrated and angry modern Africans who embrace various foreign “isms”, instead of looking homeward for repair of societies that are broken, African Colonials. They are Africans who serve foreign ideas.

Ikenga concludes, “[U]nderstand this: the African colonial who is given too much political power can only become one thing: a despot.” Limbaugh took Ikenga’s argument and ran with it, declaring that Ikenga “nailed who the guy is.” “We’ve elected somebody who’s more African in his roots than he is American…and is behaving like an African colonial despot,” Limbaugh said. Come on TP. Stop throwing out this drivel about Rush. If someone is interested in what Rush says they can listen to him or watch the Fixed “News” Channel. TP is better than this sort of coverage.

  17. Mathazar says:

But, doesn’t this contradict his past claim that Obama’s ethnicity is Arab and not African ?

As long as he doesn’t behave like an overpaid, undereducated, full-time complainer, it’s good. As long as he remains articulate and compassionate, better. He’s a far cry from his predecessor, and that’s great.

    When he’s right, he’s right.

The problem with publishing the inanities of Limbaugh/Robertson/Newt is that there’s no action plan, no advertisers list to target, nothing but, ” what a tool,” echoes from the choir.

Substance is what is needed during several opportune moments in our government, like healthcare.

    (via Krugman:)

So Mr. Obama and Democrats in Congress have to hang tough — no more gratuitous giveaways in the attempt to sound reasonable. And reform advocates have to keep up the pressure to stay on track. Yes, the perfect is the enemy of the good; but so is the not-good-enough-to-work. Health reform has to be done right.

Limbaugh, at this point, is merely a waste of pixels.

  29. misscoleopteramolly says:

So, lemme get this straight — instead of embracing Marxism, President Obama should embrace the values of African tribal culture?

Um…isn’t one of the values of tribal culture (African, Native American, or anywhere else) to take care of each other? How does this fit in with the GOP “every man for himself and stomp on your neighbor to get ahead” mindset?

I see a couple of problems here. First is Ikenga, who has a somewhat ludicrous view of President Obama. True, he had a Kenyan father, but he was raised by his mother and his maternal grandparents. One can’t say that he’s “best understood” through his identification with his father — a man he hardly knew, and from a culture his son wasn’t raised in.

And the second problem is Limbaugh, who will take any opportunity he can to bash Obama, even something written by somebody whose only dubious qualification for credibility is that she comes from the same continent Obama’s father did. And from this, Limbaugh conflates Obama with African tyrants like — whom? Bokassa? Mugabe? Idi Amin?

Ridiculous, of course. But his audience will eat it up whether it makes sense or not.

  33. Cats r Flyfishn says:

Rush is filled with so much self loathing that he always needs an enemy. If he can’t attack someone, especially someone that is way smarter then himself, then he loses his sense of self importance. Other then his drug habit, having enemies is the only thing that keeps Rush going everyday.

Did the board members of corporate evangelicalism draft this looney response for him?

  37. hanshiro the antlion says:

While Limbaugh gets quoted, our representatives had quietly cashed in on the bank bailout:

Members of U.S. House Financial Services Committee snapped up or dumped bank stocks as bottom fell out of market

    • Members of Congress were chasing profits while making policy
WASHINGTON — As financial markets tumbled and the government worked to stave off panic by pumping billions of dollars into banks last fall, several members of Congress who oversee the banking industry were grabbing up or dumping bank stocks.

Anticipating bargains or profits or just trying to unload before the bottom fell out, these members of the House Financial Services Committee or brokers on their behalf were buying and selling stocks including Bank of America and Citigroup — some of the very corporations their committee would later rap for greed, a Plain Dealer examination of congressional stock market transactions show.
    ….

Financial disclosure records show that some of these Financial Services Committee members, including Ohio Rep. Charlie Wilson, made bank stock trades on the same day the banks were getting a government bailout from a program Congress approved. The transactions may not have been illegal or against congressional rules, but securities attorneys and congressional watchdog groups say they raise flags about the appearance of conflicts of interest.

For example, Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, a Florida Republican, bought Citigroup stock valued between $1,001 and $15,000 on Oct. 2, the day before the House passed the financial rescue bill and President George W. Bush signed it into law, records show. She opposed the bill.

Eleven days later, she bought $1,001 to $15,000 worth of Bank of America stock. It was on the same day that then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson told leading banks that he expected them to accept billions in bailout money to prevent a financial meltdown.

“I don’t think that any of these people should be owning these types of financial instruments,” said Brian Biggins, a Cleveland securities lawyer and former stock brokerage manager. “I’m not saying they shouldn’t be in the stock market. But if they’re on the banking committee and trading in these kinds of stocks, I don’t think that’s right.”

Welcome to: WTF Is My Congress Doing While I’m Bashing Rush?

  40. tom says:

I was really disappointed in Limpballs today. He spent all his time on this “African colonial” stuff and cap-and-trade.

I was really hoping for a deja-vu moment with some discussion about Michael Jackson’s death. You know. Where he would say something about Jackson’s love of young boys.

That takes me back to the days when Limpballs used to yell that all drug addicts should be sent to jail. You know . . . and then his cover was blown and it turned out he was a drug addict and turned his housekeeper into his pusher. Then he kind of quit talking about what should happen to drug addicts.

So, I was hoping he would make some obnoxious comments about Jackson diddling small boys. You know. In the hope that karma would strike the gas-bag again. After all, it is about time that one or more of his ex-wives stepped forward and exposed his sick, deviant pedophilia.

Yup. The corpulent rant-jockey has definitely got some big, bad karma coming his way! The sooner, the better.

  41. flight says:

The art of putting together a 1000 piece jig saw puzzle drives me crazy. You always get the pieces that look like they should fit. There is no way that piece will fit the spot you want filled. Most reasonable people set the piece aside and proceed with the next piece. The Rush Limbaugh approach is to take a hammer and make the pieces fit. When he finishes he wants you to look at his work and compliment him on the wonderful job he has done.
The reality of Rush reasoning is his narcissism and his blatant racism. The scary thing is the Republican Party is also caught up in these “ism’s”. I am not at all surprised by this current ranting, you grow to expect it.
The Republicans is working hard very to alienate the African community for what purpose I don’t understand. For the rest of America, we have to ask who spawned this strange creature called Rush Linbaugh (I wish we could send him back to the swamp).

  42. whirlaway says:

Limbaugh is right. We also know that because of this “African colonial despot”, we saw a South Carolinian family man ditch his kids on Father’s Day so he could cavort with an Argentinian woman…

I’ve only been visiting the TP site for a couple months now, and though it has gotten a little troll-heavy lately, I really enjoy the discussions with serious people. That being said, I sometimes wonder why TP gives Limbaugh all this attention when he clearly is nuts and just as clearly influences nobody but those who won’t listen to reason anyway.

  55. curious says:

I am willing to take his word for what a despot is. He sees one in the mirror daily. He must have heard the term “colonial despot”, he surely has never read a book.

This idiot has eaten his way through life. Now he makes money chewing up people. It has inflated his body and his ego. Obviously he never spits anything out. Not true. He actually spits out a continual stream of lies, and reputation destroying garbage. He uses his bully pulpit to speak to an audience of brain dead, uneducated morons. These are the only people he can reach. They don’t know enough to see how ignorant he really is. He is a failed sportscaster, a drug addict, a serial divorced man, a food addicted man, he is a failed everything. The only thing he has succeeded in doing, is working for a network that has no standards. He tries his level best to drag all conversation into the gutter he loves. He wants to spread hate. He doesn’t know how to get out, so he tries to pull his listeners into his world.

You can almost pity him. Except for the damage he does, and the hate he spreads.

Obama is black like an African.

What is a hateful, fearful, racist, Christian Values GOP SOB like Rush to do? What remains? I’ve set the countdown clock and am waiting to find out who will be first to actually do the unspeakable…Moon the President on TV or Vid-Cam. Rush or Beck? My bets are on Rush.
