Earlier this week, ThinkProgress noted that Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) had placed a hold on Rep. Ellen Tauscher’s (D-CA) nomination to become Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, perhaps as blackmail in his wider goal of preventing the Obama administration and Russia from negotiating “deep cuts” in the respective U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals. However a congressional source told Foreign Policy’s Laura Rozen yesterday that Kyl is no longer holding up the nomination. Soon after, the Senate confirmed Tauscher to the State Department post. Kyl’s office did not respond to inquiries from ThinkProgress asking why Kyl lifted the hold.

Which facts were edited out of this one to give it just the proper amount of left spin?
You are confusing TP with FOX “News”.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:32 pmKyl’s office did not respond to inquiries from ThinkProgress asking why Kyl lifted the hold.
because the pugs are STILL not used to authentic push-back.
because he was not expecting that information to be made known…
because they are STILL in the mid-20th century………..
June 26th, 2009 at 12:32 pmKyl is the sort of spoiled little repiggie who throws a temper tantrum every now and then, just to let people know how powerful he is.
He and his fellow repiggies cheerfully led this nation down the primrose path into the Iraq calamity. Why should any decent person follow his advice on anything?

June 26th, 2009 at 12:36 pmPlease ban FreeMarketLiberal. I’m sick of his drivel cluttering every thread.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:38 pmThis was just another petty ploy of the Repug Party. They will do anything to block or obsruct any legislation. Did we expect anything else from the Repug Party?
June 26th, 2009 at 12:39 pmThe facts are that we are witnessing members of Congress fighting tooth and nail trying to protect their own financial portfolios over the good of the Nation. The F-22 fighter jet, nuclear proliferation…this is big money for elected officials who profit not only from the heavy military lobby but their private stock holdings as well. These self-serving politicians would rather the Country waist billions on un-needed military weapons to protect their holdings and the deep-pocketed military industrial complex rather than concede to a world that desires to lower the number of nukes and a nation’s economic necessity to move money to places where it is needed other than unecessary jets. Call it what it is…self-serving greedy political fat-cats abusing their positions over the economic needs of the Nation.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:40 pmSenator Wyden is writing a bill on Congressional ethics which includes an end to the secret hold. I wonder what it would take to get rid of the hold altogether. It seems a lot of Senators are using the hold to get the President’s attention for their pet issues, at a time when the President needs to get the big picture in order.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:42 pmKaty at #4 is so right. The repiggies are definitely stuck in the past century.
More importantly, they are not used to being confronted and ridiculed. It makes them quite nervous and very hostile – typical bully behavior.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:43 pmDo the senators from Arizon ever contribute anything useful to any discussion? Or are they simply media whores who will say and do anything to get some coverage each week?
PEACE
June 26th, 2009 at 12:44 pmThe real story here should be:
WHY HAVE THE DEMS REPEATEDLY CAPITULATED TO THE UNPOPULAR AGENDA OF REPUGS AND NEOCONS.
The party, on a national level, is slipping into irrelevance and demographic trends ensure that slide will continue.
Why don’t the dems publically call out the “Party of No!” and be sure to scream to the heavens when they use anonymous holds. And if they threaten to filibuster – MAKE THEM DO IT!
The public needs see what this crowd stands for and the dems consistently cover for them.
Healthcare reform is a great example – NO NEED FOR BIPARTISANSHIP because the repugs/neocons don’t stand for anything the public supports (even the majority of repugs back obama’s plan).
This is “newsworthy” and a legit post, but please don’t continue to hold only one side accountable. The gridlock we see is AT LEAST as much the fault of the dems.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:47 pmThe idiot troll is always spouting about Gore and Pelosi getting rich from green energy. I see he doesn’t post who is getting rich pushing the F-22 the military doesn’t want or need.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:49 pmKyl wants to be president. The repiggie availability pool is constantly shrinking, due to so much adulterous conduct among the leading candidates.
I wonder what sort of sexual skeletons are in Kyl’s closet.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:50 pmKyl received a note from cheney telling him to back off and get ready for the next “no.”
June 26th, 2009 at 12:51 pmI’m sure the MSM will be asking Kyl why he placed the hold and why he released it any minute. And Fox News will be leading the charge to get him on screen explaining himself. Sure they will.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:52 pmevangenital, Kyl looks like a wife beater and child abuser.

These temporary “posturing” holds in order to play to “the base” are anti-American and anti-democratic; especially in a time when the country needs its government to be fully functioning.
Despite their rhetoric, Republicans seem to prefer the order of their decision-making to be: Greed first, then party affiliation, and then their religious beliefs, and finally country. Disgraceful, anti-democratic, and obstructionist.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:55 pmDoodlebug, he certainly is a pathological liar. That party is full of them.
June 26th, 2009 at 12:59 pmKyl’s office did not respond to inquiries from ThinkProgress asking why Kyl lifted the hold.
Why should he?
June 26th, 2009 at 1:00 pmSpeaking of repiggie sleaze, here is a link about Roy Blunt, a repiggie congressman from Missouri, and his own tawdry adulterous affair with the woman to whom he is now married. This guy is another sounding brass and tinkling cymbal of the “defense of the sanctity of traditional marriage” collection of lowlifes.

smack him like you did that fly, barack… he’s just as pesky…
June 26th, 2009 at 1:05 pmWhy should he?
The better question is why didn’t he?
Isn’t he man enough to take responsibility for his actions, or was he afraid he would embarrass himself by once again cry like a baby.
June 26th, 2009 at 1:07 pmThe better question is why didn’t he?
He shouldn’t answer to tp. Do any (d)’s answer to tp? Please list them.
June 26th, 2009 at 1:10 pmDoes widdle Kyl feel big and strong now cuz he held up the scary girl? Or does widdle Kyl now feel scared of all the big people who picked the scary girl?
June 26th, 2009 at 1:11 pmNo for the sake of no. It’s the Republican Way.
June 26th, 2009 at 1:11 pm. Call it what it is…self-serving greedy political fat-cats abusing their positions over the economic needs of the Nation.
it’s a result of the militarization of th economy. There are ‘defense’ jobs by the score in every congressional district in the country.
No Congresscritter waqnts to be in the position of beiing accused by an unscrupulous (gasp) opponent of “losing jobs” in the District, in a primary or a general election.
These are the same guys who will tell you with a straight face that Govt jobs don’t create wealth.
It is possible that they are anosognosiac enough to believe their own press clippings about the jobs they bring to their districts.
June 26th, 2009 at 1:13 pmRepublicans Love Facts Says: He shouldn’t answer to tp
“No government ought to be without censors, and where the press is free, no one ever will. If virtuous, it need not fear the fair operation of attack and defence. Nature has given to man no other means of sifting out the truth whether in religion, law or politics. I think it as honorable to the government neither to know nor notice its sycophants or censors, as it would be undignified and criminal to pamper the former and persecute the latter.” –Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, 1792. June 26th, 2009 at 1:16 pmthe swamp needs to be drained
of all
demos repubs and all
the consitition needs rewritten
we treat the consitution like a bible
term limits for congress etc
send all lobbyists to cuba to work in sugar fields
wash is corrupt to the core
the system of reelections demands corruption as the demands for money are great
change the system change america
changing the players in the system and expecting real change is foolish at best and ignorance at worst
how few in the world understand the system’s influence on human behavior
capitalism breeds inperialism and individualism
imperialism and individualism will always self destruct
we are witness to that self destruction now and all we do is blame people ie individuals
this is an example of individualism in action
700 military bases around the world and two unwinnable wars are examples of imperialism in action.
the industrial military complex loves these unwinnable wars. $$$$$$$$$$$

June 26th, 2009 at 2:13 pmI hear skeletons rattling in a certain someone’s closet…
June 26th, 2009 at 2:28 pmI would NEVER support a new Constitutional convention.
The CorpoRats/Pukes/Christers/PNAC would OWN it. It would be a national Prop 8 fiasco.
Periodically, one of the top law schools dispatches its first year students to solicit signatures for a new constitution…which is identical to the old one…but which typically your basic “person-on-the-street” Murkin moron says they would reject.
June 26th, 2009 at 2:55 pmwhew! what a day…!
and, Congratulations Rep. Ellen Tauscher!
Rep. Tauscher casts key votes before leaving House
3 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Ellen Tauscher made it a memorable last day in Congress. The California Democrat wielded the gavel during debate Friday, gave an Academy Award-length “thank you address” to the chamber and was casting what could be one of the more important votes of her 13-year congressional career.
The Senate on Thursday confirmed Tauscher, who represents the San Francisco suburbs, as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security.
In an emotional speech on the House floor, she said she had told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., that she would resign when votes ended Friday.
That meant she could make a critical vote in favor of a Democratic bill to curb global warming and promote cleaner energy. With the Democratic leadership scrambling to come up with a winning margin, Tauscher’s vote was essential.
She also told colleagues that on Saturday, she was getting married. “It’s hard to be a blushing bride at my age, but I’ll do my best,” the 57-year-old said.
