Boehner: American Clean Energy and Security Act is a ‘pile of sh*t.’

On Friday, the House passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act which will, in part, regulate carbon emissions in the U.S. House Minority Leader John Beohner, a vocal critic of the legislation, delayed Friday evening’s vote for nearly an hour by taking advantage his “privilege as leader to speak for an unlimited time on the House floor.” After the House finally voted on and passed the legislation, the Hill asked Boehner to comment on what he had hoped to gain through his “filibuster-like” delay. “Hey, people deserve to know what’s in this pile of sh*t,” Boehner replied.

  17. Cicero says:

Well, its consistent, at least, with other bills passed in the House.

I understand the need for speed, of course. One of the most effective attacks against HillaryCare back in 1993 was when Republican politicians and talk radio would read from the bill all the nasty provisions in it.

No, now we ram it through without giving the public time to see the bill and react.

Hell, there wasn’t even an integrated bill this time. You had one copy of the original bill , and one copy of the 300 page amendment, and that was it. And its not like you’d just stick the amendment on the end of the bill, no, it was “remove sub-paragraph i and replace it with blah blah blah”. Who knows what they were voting on?

What a way to run the country, huh?

    Later,

  18. Pam in S.C. says:

Boner the cry baby, it seems like a lot of repug “MEN?” are doing the same thing that they accused Hillary of, saying how weak she was showing her emotions in public like that. As for repugs gaining control ask a true South Carolina voter about Sanford’s lame lame duck future. hahahahaha

  19. hivanh says:

Mr.Boehner’s perhaps alcohol-related, tan-induced, tear-spattered theatrical antics not withstanding (he performs as well as Sanford), we are easily dissuaded from examining the facts, in favor of oohing and awe-ing over the hystrionics. The bill is no longer what it was originally intended to be, and may well get blown out completely by the big money forces paying for our senator’s and their condos. Peabody Coal alone has spent more money trying to block the bill than the public and the government have spent researching and supporting it.

A month from now it will be forgotten and in a decade or less, while we are all choking on untreated coal fumes and have made no significant advances in electricity production (and coal prices will be sky high), there will be another uprising. And then everyone will look back with perfect rear-view outlooks and condemn the the decisions “those people” made “back then”. Save me,please, from this “pile of s#@t” crap: you are standing in it.

Correct me if I’m wrong. As I said earlier I don’t know enough about this cap and trade bill but after listening to Boehner babble on and on as he read the bill and mentioned carbon derivatives my first thought was that this bill is just going to create another market for the Wall Street crowd to make a lot of money.

It wouldn’t surprise too much if the GOP finally realizes what a self-absorbed wanker Boehner is and replaces him after the midterms (I only hope the Dems follow trend and dump Pelosi in favour of someone like Waxman, Lewis, or Van Hollen).

And I still fear for the Bill. It’s very unlikely that it will pass the senate unless reconciliation is used, and the version of the bill that’d return to the House would be unrecognizable. Consider this a dry run for the healthcare bill.

  35. majii says:

So, all of you naysayers are saying do nothing at all, just wait until the problems are huge and then start working on them? That’s like a doctor telling you that in 10 years a mole will mostly likely turn into melanoma, you dismiss it, ten years later the melanoma shows up, and then you want to try to save your life, but by that time it has spread from the outside to the inside of your body. Yeah, your plan to delay taking any action will work out just fine for you when you find in year 10 that the prognosis for extending your life is 6 months.
Someone among the citizenry and the government has to have the ability to examine the research and its’ implications. Living in a state of denial will most likely doom the ones who are thinking rationally to the same fate as the deniers if the deniers are allowed to have their way. It’s a good thing that only a simple majority vote is needed in the Senate, and we progressives will keep the pressure on the dems like McCaskill who don’t seem to know which way the wind is blowing regarding CAP.

Inhofe? Yes, indeed, and his list of “scientists” includes virtually no climatologists — and some that are listed have asked to be taken off the list.

  40. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Why do I get the feeling that this bill is all about money? In the public eye, the debate is about new taxes, new technology, a cleaner environment, more jobs created, more jobs lost, the democrats are shown as the supporters of this bill while the republicans play the role as the opponents of the bill but for some weird reason, knowing how our government operates, I get the feeling that because this will create a new market on Wall Street for investors, that both parties are secretly for this bill and the grand debate is just a spectacle for the public.

  41. Tim Vaculik says:

    majii,

Your argument, like many others presumes that mankind’s activities are the primary cause of so-called “global warming.”

Members of both parties have made small fortunes off of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, off of the health care industry, off of the pharmaceutical companies etc, etc,

There should be a law (if there isn’t one already and is ignored) where all elected officials must reveal to the public all of their investments and if say they have money invested in a drug company or a defense company, this would disqualify them from voting on any bill related to drug or health care companies.

If your paid propagandists could come up with one such test no scientists would support it. Doodlebug Shayne @ 51…that is what bothers me so much about many republicans, my sister included. They always take the side of the corporations, never the American worker, never our environment…I just don’t get it.

If one looks at our country’s history, the corporations have been screwing the American worker forever. Just look into the mining history of the 30’s & the 70’s. Of course thanks to Louis Powell, there was a move in the 80’s to remove all of labor history of our country from books in our public schools.

The ironic thing is that many of these corporate supporting republicans fear the new world order or one world government and yet some of the very things that they support could eventually help lead to a one world government.

You want a peer review of the “suppressed” paper? Here ya go.

Some parts of the blogosphere, headed up by CEI (”CO2: They call it pollution, we call it life!”), are all a-twitter over an apparently “suppressed” document that supposedly undermines the EPA Endangerment finding about human emissions of carbon dioxide and a basket of other greenhouse gases. Well a draft of this “suppressed” document has been released and we can now all read this allegedly devastating critique of the EPA science. Let’s take a look…

First off the authors of the submission; Alan Carlin is an economist and John Davidson is an ex-member of the Carter administration Council of Environmental Quality. Neither are climate scientists. That’s not necessarily a problem – perhaps they have mastered multiple fields? – but it is likely an indication that the analysis is not going to be very technical (and so it will prove). Curiously, while the authors work for the NCEE (National Center for Environmental Economics), part of the EPA, they appear to have rather closely collaborated with one Ken Gregory (his inline comments appear at multiple points in the draft). Ken Gregory if you don’t know is a leading light of the Friends of Science – a astroturf anti-climate science lobbying group based in Alberta. Indeed, parts of the Carlin and Davidson report appear to be lifted directly from Ken’s rambling magnum opus on the FoS site. However, despite this odd pedigree, the scientific points could still be valid.

Their main points are nicely summarised thus: a) the science is so rapidly evolving that IPCC (2007) and CCSP (2009) reports are already out of date, b) the globe is cooling!, c) the consensus on hurricane/global warming connections has moved from uncertain to ambiguous, d) Greenland is not losing mass, no sirree…, e) the recession will save us!, f) water vapour feedback is negative!, and g) Scafetta and West’s statistical fit of temperature to an obsolete solar forcing curve means that all other detection and attribution work is wrong. From this “evidence”, they then claim that all variations in climate are internal variability, except for the warming trend which is caused by the sun, oh and by the way the globe is cooling.

  51. chris joseph says:

No, this bill is more like a shovel to clean up the pile of shit industry is drowning us in. That includes he ranching industry which produces farting cows to support our over-consumption of beef. Just because cows are living beings, they are raised, maintained, and processed by humans for consumption, just like any other manufactured product. Their co2 and methane emissions are therefore a result of human intervention. There would not be so many if not for our breeding them in captivity. We’re drowning in shit, and I’m embarrassed to know Boehner is from Ohio, making us all look like uneducated fools.

“… a scientific theory only needs one test of it to fail to prove the theory void.”

Well then, you should be on our side! Are you aware that there is NO climate model that when fed past atmospheric CO2 data, can even replicate the earth’s temperatures today?

  75. angels81 says:

Now we should all listen to a guy like Boehner when it comes to climate change. Here’s a guy who thinks the earth is only 6000 years old, and humans walked with dinosaurs. How can we go wrong with that kind of logic? What do all those scientists know when it comes to a great brain like Boehner.

  76. Game of Life says:

    Cicero Says

  77. Game of Life says:

repugs don’t use sun screen then. Use baby oil and show them scientists a thing or two.

  78. angels81 says:

So, watchpuppy thinks that if we are not 100% sure, we should do nothing. Thats like a guy standing in the living room of a house with the kitchen on fire and saying, but its not burning here.

  79. Keith says:

IPCC compiled 2600 pages of evidence pointing towards human responsiblity for climate change. CO2 in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million before the industrial revolution and 379 ppm in March 2004.

20,000 Europeans died in the summer of 2002 heat wave. US insurance losses due to extreme weather was $2 billion per year in the 1980’s and $12 billion per year in 1990’s.

Nature Magazine said up to 37% of 1,103 species studied could face extinction or near-extinction as a consequence of global warming.

  80. gummble-bee-itch says:

poopdog: If they wanted to be truly balanced and concerned with truth. why even associate with know political activists?

Everyone is associated with someone. How about you provide a source that counters ACTUAL CLIMATOLOGISTS and we can take a good look at who they “associate with.”

And around here “associating with progressives” is hardly considered a problem.

There’s no way around the credibility of climatologists, dog, no matter how desperately you try to DENY it.

  81. Badger says:

Watch Dog is concerned about climate change legislation because of the crippling of our horribly troubled economy

We are going to Spend/Borrow Half a Trillion Dollar$ on Imported Oil this year.

This is good for our economy??

We need a little forward thinking, and less fear mongering.

Even IF were it the case that huge increases in greenhouse gases are benign, we need to get off Oil for Economic and National Security reasons .

  82. Keith says:

We did not have a HORRIBLY TROUBLED ECONOMY after eight years of Clinton. Obama inherited it after eight years of Bush!

  83. angels81 says:

watchpuppy is not concerned about the effects of climate change or how much oil we import or anything else for that matter. Watchpuppy will be against anything that progressives on this site are for period. Doesn’t matter what the subject is, he will be on the otherside.

  84. chingebush says:

Is Boner crying again? Who would have thought that a pile of shit had feelings?

  85. Keith says:

FDR inherited a HORRIBLY TROUBLED ECONOMY after 12 years of Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover. Clinton inherited a bad economy after 12 years of Reagan&Bush I.

  86. angels81 says:

watchpuppy. Huh? wouldn’t the guy be just as vulnerable in his old house? And if we try to do something about our finger prints on climate change, maybe he won’t have to worry so much about those hurricanes and tornadoes.

  87. delafield says:

Uncle Fester Lurks says, “That is what bothers me so much about many republicans, my sister included. They always take the side of the corporations, never the American worker, never our environment…I just don’t get it.”

You can include my sister, too. She claims that she’s for the environment yet she voted against the father of “Earth Day”, Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wis.). And she voted for Reagan, the man who said that trees cause pollution.

She forwards numerous email messages to me about protecting wildlife, especially wolves. But then she votes for Sarah Palin, the women who shoots wolves for fun from airplanes.

Her 24 year old son is over $10,000 in debt due to hospital bills. Her 22 year old daughter has no health care coverage at all. But then my sister turns around and tells me that she doesn’t want any change to our health care system.

She says she’s pro-life but then she votes for Republican who are pro-war.

She’s an Evangelical extremist who says that I’m going to go to hell. But in the end, if there really is a heaven and hell, I think that she’ll be the one who’ll fry in hell.

Other than that, I get along well with my sister.

  88. evangenital says:

Evangelicalism is the fastest growing mental illness in this nation.

  89. gingerpye says:

    Stay classy, Boehner.

    Too true.
Please remember repugs logic isn’t a dem/liberal/progressive thing.
Even paternity tests aren’t 100%, nothing is. With that logic of yours watchie, you would never claim your children.

    Chickenbone Bill Says:

How much time was given the Dems and the public to read the Patriot Bill before the Regressive Repubs “SHOVED IT” down the throat of this country? You got a answer?

    Answer, not nearly enough.

Do not take my opposition for actions of the current President and Dem-controlled Congress as support for past actions of the previous President and the then Rep-controlled Congress.

Past bad behaviour by the Repubs does not excuse current bad behaviour from the Dems.

  93. Game of Life says:

    gummble-bee-itch Says:

    watchdog Says:

The number of skeptics is swelling everywhere On Climate Change.

Quoting a WSJ column which references: The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. — 13 times the number who authored the U.N.’s 2007 climate summary for policymakers.

Inhofe? Yes, indeed, and his list of “scientists” includes virtually no climatologists — and some that are listed have asked to be taken off the list.

Aren’t there 20k scientists who can prove man-made climate change?

  94. pete says:

Any claim that the number of global warming skeptics is climbing is a flat-out lie. The only voices of opposition are the same energy industry shills and young earth creationists who have been saying the same shit for 20 years.

  95. pete says:

Inhofe and Boner haven’t the foggiest notion what science is. I wouldn’t trust the two of them combined to count to ten. Neither of them has any scientific credibility.

  96. kevsters says:

Nice picture of Boehner wiping the tanning oil out of his eye.

These people will do anything to kill this legislation, because it will hurt their largest supporters’ profits.

Watch this clip of Chuck Grassley not being completely honest about CO2 emissions.

  97. ranus69 says:

And this mucker Boehner state has received $7,4 billion dollars from the Feds and he’s always whining on tv, “where are the jobs!!, where are the jobs!!. Meantime, he’s out on the golf course raising money and only raised $31,000?

Does anyone see the discourse and hypocrisy here?

Little less golf time would have help Boehner the “Whiner”?

  98. SP Biloxi says:

Oh no, is he going to start weeping again? Er… cleanup on aisle 4! Bring the big mop. Boner’s been crying like a baby again. Give crybaby Johnny a sucker so he’ll stop crying.

  99. eyeswideopen1 says:

The reason Boners filibuster didn’t work is he need to eventually stop and go out for a smoke. It’s true. The Dems knew that would happen so they just patiently sat by listening to their ipod or whatever.

  100. stormy says:

I’m a retired A.F. WX forecaster. I have studied Climo, not on the scale or the depth that the peer reviewed studies have. I DO NOT consider myself a climatoligist in any sense of the word. I do, however, know a hell of a lot more than the swatchdog or TammyG will ever learn. Climate change is not something to be blownoff with non-peer reviewed, Oil company backed “studies”.

My question to these idiots is: Even if the studies are wrong, what do we have to lose by cutting back on pouring more and more pollution into the atmosphere? I mean, Damn, it’s like saying smoking is not proven to be bad for you. I’m pretty sure putting smoke into your lungs is not the way the body was designed to operate. Pouring hundreds of thousands tons of “smoke” into the atmosphere, can’t possibly be good.

Is cap and trade the answer? I don’t know, but at least it’s a start.

    USAF,REt.

P.S. Zooey, dbadass, the Schneiders, etc…Keep kicking A**. My work schedule is such that I can’t contribute, but I’m here every day cheering you on. Thanks

  101. pete says:

I couldn’t have said it any better, stormy. What ticks me off is that these freaks whine about the “cost” of green technology without ever mentioning the unimaginable profits.

Batteries, alternative fuels, electric drive trains, solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, fuel cell/hydrogen, all stand to make fortunes for somebody.

Plus we get the advantage of being able to devote the shrinking petroleum supply to plastics and other industrial uses instead of just burning it. I’ve often said that living without gas will be an easy transition compared to trying to live without plastic.

  102. wiley says:

Hi Stormy. I was in the farce too. Scope dope.

  103. stormy says:

Well said Pete. Well not just plastic, but other products…golf balls, basting brushes, Turkey basters, etc. But seriously, what do we have to lose using your ideas?….Nothing. I believe we’re past peak oil. I don’t think that even my two grandkids will be alive long enough for new “oil” to be made. I mean I’m already 10 years past when I thought I would live. But with 2, 10 year old grand children…i kind of care about their future.

    John
P.S. Wayne S., I’ve seen you’re an AF vet, when and Where were you stationed? Just wondering if our paths crossed.

  109. MapleStreet says:

Boehner is right – it can be compared to $h*t.

    Feces makes great compost.

    It generates methane.

Why don’t we make use of it ?

  110. diffrntdrummr says:

The boners’ statement does make me pause…I’m thinking, if anyone knows shit,it’s the boner. He’s been steppin’ in it his whole career.I must admit I’m a little confused. But then again, I’m young and I’ll get over it.

My late stepfather was a Republican from Ohio but also a scientist and Teddy Roosevelt-style conservationist. I’m sure the presence of people like Bonehead would have sent him crying away from the G(roup)O(f)(P)erverts, if he were alive today.

  113. DallasNE says:

Me thinks Boehner is the one passing gas here. All of the data shows CO2 going up in tandem with the industrial revolution. If the problem was cow farts like Boehner likes to claim then CO2 emissions should have declined as we killed off the huge buffalo herds. Likewise, CO2 emissions should be higher in places like India where they have even more cows than we do. There is simply no data to support Boehner and his cow farts.

  114. Mark701 says:

A pile of shit eh? Well, I suppose he would know.

  115. lvdragonlady says:

Someone needs to find out which companies are paying this man to be against clean energy. Anyone with half a brain knows that we have to start doing something otherwise we are going to be in big trouble. Hard to believe that the GOP is this flippin stupid.

  116. energylab says:

Does anyone here know plants use CO2 to grow???Seems to me reducing CO2 would kill off some rainforest somewhere and that would piss off some no foresight environmentalists.
Most people realize someone actually needs to put a solution in place before your precious Starbucks can stop brewing your crappuccino w/ public utiity power. But, i’m sure Cap and Trade will fix everything. Let’s see… $686 billion for Waxman-Markey …to start. Let’s trade something we just make out of thin air like “carbon credits” that don’t exist and tax the hell out of everyone with a real job for them so that welfare babies can have more perfect mountains to never go to.
Let’s quote the nonsensical arguments of that ilk. Public Citizen’s case: Federal efforts to resuscitate a nuclear industry that was DOA come with a cost: your tax dollars (over $13 billion) are being spent to support the companies that want to build new nukes, transfering the considerable financial risk from corporations to taxpayers.
Hmmm. 686 billion for the new ENRON or 13 billion to do something that works until you can figure out a way to power your car with a windmill. Oh and you have to manufacture the windmill with only the power made from windmills. ;-) And you can’t use metals to make your windmill because that metal would have to be mined from somewhere, most likely somewhere newly stressed trees are growing. And you can’t use plastics because they use petroleum….

  117. indi1216 says:

“Boehner: American Clean Energy and Security Act is a ‘pile of sh*t.”, so is the republican party…guess what you look like one too with that tan of yours.
