Does anyone here know plants use CO2 to grow???Seems to me reducing CO2 would kill off some rainforest somewhere and that would piss off some no foresight environmentalists.
Most people realize someone actually needs to put a solution in place before your precious Starbucks can stop brewing your crappuccino w/ public utiity power. But, i’m sure Cap and Trade will fix everything. Let’s see… $686 billion for Waxman-Markey …to start. Let’s trade something we just make out of thin air like “carbon credits” that don’t exist and tax the hell out of everyone with a real job for them so that welfare babies can have more perfect mountains to never go to.
Let’s quote the nonsensical arguments of that ilk. Public Citizen’s case: Federal efforts to resuscitate a nuclear industry that was DOA come with a cost: your tax dollars (over $13 billion) are being spent to support the companies that want to build new nukes, transfering the considerable financial risk from corporations to taxpayers.
Hmmm. 686 billion for the new ENRON or 13 billion to do something that works until you can figure out a way to power your car with a windmill. Oh and you have to manufacture the windmill with only the power made from windmills. ;-) And you can’t use metals to make your windmill because that metal would have to be mined from somewhere, most likely somewhere newly stressed trees are growing. And you can’t use plastics because they use petroleum….

Me thinks Boehner is the one passing gas here. All of the data shows CO2 going up in tandem with the industrial revolution. If the problem was cow farts like Boehner likes to claim then CO2 emissions should have declined as we killed off the huge buffalo herds. Likewise, CO2 emissions should be higher in places like India where they have even more cows than we do. There is simply no data to support Boehner and his cow farts.

Well said Pete. Well not just plastic, but other products…golf balls, basting brushes, Turkey basters,etc. But seriously, what do we have to lose using your ideas?….Nothing. I believe we’re past peak oil. I don’t think that even my two grandkids will be alive long enough for new “oil” to be made. I mean I’m already 10 years past when I thought I would live. But with 2, 10 year old grand children…i kind of care about their future.

I couldn’t have said it any better, stormy. What ticks me off is that these freaks whine about the “cost” of green technology without ever mentioning the unimaginable profits.

Batteries, alternative fuels, electric drive trains, solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, fuel cell/hydrogen, all stand to make fortunes for somebody.

Plus we get the advantage of being able to devote the shrinking petroleum supply to plastics and other industrial uses instead of just burning it. I’ve often said that living without gas will be an easy transition compared to trying to live without plastic.

I’m a retired A.F. WX forecaster. I have studied Climo, not on the scale or the depth that the peer reviewed studies have. I DO NOT consider myself a climatoligist in any sense of the word. I do, however, know a hell of a lot more than the swatchdog or TammyG will ever learn. Climate change is not something to be blownoff with non-peer reviewed, Oil company backed “studies”.

My question to these idiots is: Even if the studies are wrong, what do we have to lose by cutting back on pouring more and more pollution into the atmosphere? I mean, Damn, it’s like saying smoking is not proven to be bad for you. I’m pretty sure putting smoke into your lungs is not the way the body was designed to operate. Pouring hundreds of thousands tons of “smoke” into the atmosphere, can’t possibly be good.

Is cap and trade the answer? I don’t know, but at least it’s a start.
