There is a lot of wrong-minded arguing on both sides.

Here's the reality, guys:
Obama is a US citizen because he was born in Hawaii. This is not only a fact, to dispute it is simply stupid. No polite way to say that, really - people who dispute this fact are STUPID. There are plenty of more satisfying ways of saying it, but that's as nice as it gets. Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid. Pathetically stupid. Not intelligent enough to tie their own shoes without injuring themselves, stupid. Mustard gets to gloat because it has a higher IQ, stupid. W could whip your ass at Jeopardy Infant Edition, stupid.

On the meme that if he was born in Kenya, he'd be a US citizen because his mother was a US citizen - that's also false. The law that requires only one parent to be a US citizen was not passed until the 80s (1981, specifically). At the time that Obama was born, both of his parents would have had to be American citizens in order to naturalize him had he been born in Kenya. But he wasn't, so that's an entirely moot point.

On the meme that John McCain is not a US citizen because he was born in Panama, that is also not true. McCain is a naturally born US citizen because he was born on a US Military base. Whatsmore, at the time he was born, the US was the sole controller of the Panama Canal Zone (since we built and paid for it), had been the sole controller of it since 1903, and continued to be the sole controller of it until 1979, so military base or not, it was US soil.

Seriously, this is so completely ridiculous, I'm simply amazed that this many people have commented on it. I read it, because stupidity and craziness like this is funny...but sweet jebus, people. Wake up and recognize how stupid it is and how stupid you are for buying this incredible bullshit. My god, the scope of the conspiracy necessary for this to be true is of the same magnitude as the Flat Earthers espouse. You don't want to be widely-known as being just as batshit crazy as those morons, do you?

I think poster #7 has a very valid point. However, there is something much more mundane associated with the nonsense spewed by the right---money.

There are many people who make a shit load of money inflaming the weak of mind, the fearful, and the easily led. Limbaugh makes $44,000,000/year. Syndicated radio show host Sean Hannity has signed a new radio deal with Ctitadel/ABC Radio and Premiere Radio Networks. The deal will pay Hannity $100 million for the next five years and keep his radio show broadcasting nationwide on about 500 affiliates. Coulter has to be raking in at least a couple million a year from her "books" and synicated column.

The fact is these people are making a killing speading lies and nonsense. The reason they won't face up to reality is because they can't make any money, or at least what they're use to, by doing so. It's really no more complicated than that.

Well, now, isn't that so cute? The rightwingers have a conspiracy that is completely theirs and no one else's, and their going to hold onto it with their little fingers forever and ever.

Those who continue with this line are either trying to be intentionally disruptive to American government simply because they lost the election(s), or they are completely delusional and are clinging to this purely right wingnut conspiracy theory like a soiled security blanket -- hoping beyond hope that somehow this conspiracy theory will lead them back into political power where they can be the ones telling people what to do again.

And, of course, with the wingnut rightwing, it is all about telling other people what they can and cannot do. It's not even "power" in a general sense -- it is literally power to tell others what they cannot do that drives the rightwing-nuttery loons.

Keep this up, and the rightwing will become more lunatic fringe than tin foil hatters.

Jeezuss Pleazuss. Obama is a citizen because his mother was a natural born citizen. The Constitution states that a president must be a "natural born citizen", but that is not defined.

McCain was born on a military base in Panama. Americans born to American citizens overseas are citizens. We could argue over minutiae, as if the founding fathers were animistic and believed that being dropped from your mothers loin on U.S. soil conferred qualities upon U.S. citizens that presidents couldn't do without, but we have better things to do with our time.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

what if??? I didn't vote for either of these guys, but just what if??
By the way McCain was born on a military post, that was considered U.S. property.. although I think he should not ever become president.. But Just what if Obama was born in Kenya, his mother having been under age keeps her from conferring citizenship to him, according to the citizenship laws of the time. That would make him a subject of British rule, how ironic that would be. I really don't think I want to know if he is a citizen or not, simply because, what took place in Honduras, would take place here, the military would be forced to remove him. That is what we swear an oath to , the Constitution, not the president.
It would get ugly...... But still what if?

Doesn't ever cross these racists minds that a man who was educated in the USA, served as state senator for the state of IL, US Senator, before being elected President of the USA had to be a citizen for three of these positions and they have been satisfied? Look at Factcheck.org.

wiz says @ 7:44pm

The right wing has no legal path to do anything about this, the conservative US Supreme Court has already turned down a case related to this.

it's way more pathetic than that. by my count, as of the end of this month scotus has turned down five birther cases. 39 others have been dismissed by lower courts. only one case has returned a judgment, against the plaintiff, surprise, surprise ...

the birther movement is running on fumes.
