Republican Norm Coleman conceded the 2008 election to Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) today. “It’s over,” Coleman said at a press conference in Minnesota, adding that he had called and congratulated Franken. Watch it:
President Obama issued a statement reading, “I look forward to working with Senator-Elect Franken to build a new foundation for growth and prosperity by lowering health care costs and investing in the kind of clean energy jobs and industries that will help America lead in the 21st century.”
Its about freakin time.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:27 pmSuck on it Limpdick!
June 30th, 2009 at 4:28 pmOMG! I can’t believe it! Congratulations to Senator Franken and the state of Minnesota! Thank you for giving it up NORM!

Franken: “Sure, but I’ll need to see some I.D….”
June 30th, 2009 at 4:31 pmSeven months too late, IMO, but at least the right man for the job was approved to represent the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:31 pmWell now the Democrats have an “on paper” filibuster-proof majority, if you count the fake Democrat Lieberman and the wishy-washy “which party do I belong to now?” Specter.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:33 pmNo more excuses from any Dem claiming we need sixty votes to move forward. Any Dem that sides with republicans and filibusters legislation should be thrown out of office.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:34 pmIt must suck to lose to a wrestler and a comedian in the same political career.

June 30th, 2009 at 4:36 pmCornyn and the GOP cut ol’ Normy off of the cash teat to continue “fighting” for his well deserved *ss loss to the GREAT Al Franken.
No way this scumbag concedes otherwise.
He’s a Republican. A loser.
Sorry for the redundancy.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:37 pmIt’s about friggen time. Now maybe the Senate can get some real work done like putting together a public health care plan.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:38 pmNOW THE TRUE DINO’S WILL BE SEEN IN THE OPEN WHEN YOU HAVE 60 SEATS!!! Who is going to be the first on the hit list to vote out of office for not giving the people what they want?????
List of Dino’s that may obstruct;
1) Bayh
2)Libberman
3)Spector
Please add ….
June 30th, 2009 at 4:38 pmOne less obstruction is great, but that one wasn’t even in Congress. Franken’s gotten great practice for the real obstructionists he’s about to mingle with (not just rs).
June 30th, 2009 at 4:40 pmHow long before Coleman is given a show on Fox?
They seem to be in the market for repiggie losers these days.
Hasn’t FoxNews already run out of time slots for those clowns?

June 30th, 2009 at 4:47 pmNow if the Dems stop fighting among themselves, they can advance Obama’s agenda.
Obama a Chicago thug? Hardly. Chicago politics is a full contact sport. Obama is a wuss compared to a real Chicago Dem.

No?
Thought not.
You just like to call the President names for the sake of calling him names. Kind of like the seven-year old kid who likes to call his little sister “retarded” just because he likes the way the word sounds.
But seriously — if that’s all you have to contribute here, would you mind terribly going and doing it somewhere else? You’ve gone beyond tiresome.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:55 pmAfter the political assassination of progressive Senator Paul Wellstone (D – Minn) in 2002, the door was open for the Republican criminal regime to seize control of the US Senate. And so it was done, with electronically rigged election thefts in Georgia and Minnesota. So Norm Coleman never was an honestly-elected representative of the citizens of Minnesota.

June 30th, 2009 at 5:26 pm“The implications of this Senate Race are particularly significant because the Democrats will now have 60 votes in the Senate. With their supermajority the era of finger pointing and excuses is now over. With just 59 votes, Senate Democrats in recent months have passed trillion dollar spening bills, drive up America’s debt, made every American taxpayer a shareholder in the Auto Industryand now want Washington to take over America’s health care system. Its troubling to think about what they might now accomplish with 60 votes.” John Coryn (GNOP) TX.

give the repubs credit they control the demos lock stock and barrel.

June 30th, 2009 at 5:40 pmSo, if I understand correctly, this means three things.
1. The vote on the public option cannot be stalled unless a democrat openly supports a filibuster. So, all we need is 51 votes and the public option passes.
2. The same can be said for the confirmation of Sotomayer. Without one dem on their side, the repubs cannot filibuster her confirmation. Hence, 51 votes and she’s in.
3. EFCA and ACES should sail right on through – no problem.
Today is a bad day to be a republican.

We the people have discovered the Internet and we are pissed. We are witnessing the rise of Internet based Democracy.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:09 pmI admit that I’m an unusually patient person. I tend to take a long range view of things and I think there’s lots of room to celebrate.
Yesterday saw what could be called the biggest symbolic date of the Iraq occupation when we, finally, ceased offensive patrols. That would have been my decision the day we realized there were no WMD. It’s taken 6 years, two elections, and uncounted dead for our elected leaders to try that course of action.
Today we see the last victory of the ‘08 election. The symbolic number 60 is, I think, secondary to the manner in which the whole fiasco went down. Despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, despite all the lies and innuendo from the Reichwhiners, Senator Franken won an unquestionable victory by unanimous decision of a bipartisan court. And that’s over and above the most careful and thoroughly moderated recount in American history.
Up to now, all the obstruction of the GOoPers has netted them nothing. It’s just served to reinforce their growing image as a bunch of spoiled children. We may want bolder action on some issues but we can’t lose site of the real changes that have already happened.
There’s been a lot of criticism for the approach Obama and the Congressional Dems on some issues. Much of that is justified. But, I continue to remain hopeful that they will continue to tackle emergencies in real time and work on sweeping measures in their “off hours”. It would be a shame if all the gains were jeopardized by impatience.

June 30th, 2009 at 6:14 pmIt just hit me how significant this is politically.
How long has it been since either Democrats or Republicans have had such a small minority that they could not filibuster?
The Republican Party has achieved a threshold in irrelevance that has not been seen in a long time. As Republicans lose more and more seats, they will become more desperate and dangerous.
We can expect violence from the fascist Republican Party as they continue to lose power.

I still live in Minnesota, stupid troll. I voted for Jesse and, for the most part, he did exactly what he promised to do which included changing his mind when convinced by compelling argument. His Administration wasn’t a golden age but it was pretty good. He did less damage than T-Paw no matter how you look at it.
As for Senator Franken, I think that his books and additional body of intellectual property is pretty compelling. I know that intellectualism is a contagion to be avoided by GOoPers but I always rate sheer intellectual capacity first when I consider any candidate. Personally, I have no qualms about Senator Franken’s ability to learn and comprehend everything that he has to.
