Thune To Conservative Activists: ‘We Need You’ To Help Obstruct Sotomayor

On a conference call organized by the right-wing Judicial Confirmation Network, Sen. John Thune (R-SD) told a group of conservative activists that he needed their help to prevent Judge Sotomayor from being confirmed to the Supreme Court in a timely manner. “We need you involved in this process,” Thune told the call’s listeners, because Senate Democrats “are going to jam through this lifetime appointment rather than provide a full and fair review of her record.”

But Thune sang a different tune when President Bush was in office. Judiciary Chair Patrick Leahy (D-VT) modeled Sotomayor’s 72-day confirmation schedule after the exact same 72-day schedule that was used to confirm Chief Justice John Roberts. Back then, Thune thought this schedule was more than adequate for him to make up his mind:

“Today marks the beginning of a historic and revered process. As we pay tribute to the legacy of former Chief Justice Rehnquist, we see many of the qualities that marked his tenure of excellence mirrored in Judge Roberts,” Thune said. “Judge Roberts brings with him a brilliant legal mind and a profound respect for the Constitution and the Court.

I urge Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to put politics aside and allow a fair and efficient confirmation process to work. I look forward to hearing from Judge Roberts and have full confidence his experience and character will carry him swiftly through these important hearings.”

Perhaps Thune is simply having trouble understanding how Sotomayor’s confirmation schedule compares to Roberts’. To help explain this difficult concept to Sen. Thune, ThinkProgress has prepared this helpful chart:

  6. PFWoody488 says:

Considering the knee jerk reaction of the Party of No to the Sotomayor nomination, maybe next time President should nominate an actual Liberal judge.
It would bring some long needed balance to the court, and the reaction of the right will be the same anyways.
    Come on Barack.
You got a mandate from the people.

These guys are such liars & hypocrites it puts your teeth on edge. One moment they refuse to meet with her, skip meetings with her, etc., then whine that they need to get to know her better. And “jam through” ?? Repubs & Bush were the experts in “jamming through”.

  11. Tired of being lied to says:

Perhaps Thune is confused because of the colors used on the charts.

The color of Roberts chart should be red. Sotomayor’s can remain blue. Everything else can remain the same.

Then, perhaps, he could see the difference between the two.

Oh, wait, umm, there isn’t any difference, is there…

  16. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

The American people, through their vote, bought President Obama’s products: his policies and his people. Unless the GOP can find some criminal or gross moral or conflict of interest in Judge Sotomayor, they should confirm her. And if the GOP is so gung-ho about finding moral or legal corruption, perhaps they should look to their own party members.

George Soros has made his mark as an enormously successful speculator, wise enough to largely withdraw when still way ahead of the game. The bulk of his enormous winnings is now devoted to encouraging transitional and emerging nations to become ‘open societies,’ open not only in the sense of freedom of commerce but—more important—tolerant of new ideas and different modes of thinking and behavior.

Forbes lists Soros as the 29th-richest person in the world, with a net worth estimated at $11.0 billion. Soros has given $6 billion to various causes since 1979

The Insider Trading case that the French brought against Mr. Soros may have been politically motivated (do tell!). What FLM hasn’t noted is that the case is on appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
As far as his activities FLM again lies through his teeth. For two days he worked for the Jewish Council in Budapest handing out deportation notices to jews. He was instructed by his father to tell the ppeople getting the notices that if they reported for resettlement, they would be deported. He did live with an official in the Agriculture Ministry who was involved in the confiscation of Jewish Property, but their is no evidence that i can find that suggests that young Soros participated in the operations to do so in 1944.

In 1988, he was asked to join a takeover attempt of the French bank Société Générale. He declined to participate in the bid but did later buy a number of shares in the company.
French authorities began an investigation in 1989, and in 2002 a French court ruled that it was insider trading, a felony conviction as defined under
French securities laws and fined him $2.3 million, which was the amount that he made using the insider information.

  48. Chickenbone Bill says:

What’s the big deal that Judge Sotomayor and 2 fellow Judges were overruled by the Supreme Court that have all the ditto-heads crowing about?
Chief Justice Roberts was a member of the DC Court of Appeals that issued a unanimous ruling in Hamdan v Rumsfield in July ‘05. The Supreme Court “REVERSED the Circuit Courts decision with a 5-3 ruling in 2006 with Judge Roberts sitting as the Chief Justice.
Judge Alito has been reversed on 4 decisions he ruled on since 2000, with one of the reversals being a uninimous decision by the SC!
Since 2004 the SC has reversed 67% of Federal Appeals Courts cases before them. In ‘07 it slipped to 61%.
    So what’s the big deal?

    SCANDAL! SCANDAL! SCANDAL!

    EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!

George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her.

“In her suit, Margie Schoedinger states that George W. Bush committed sexual crimes against her, organized harassment and moral pressure on her, her family members and close relatives and friends. As Schoedinger said, she was strongly recommended to keep her mouth shut. . . . Furthermore, she alleges that George Bush ordered to show pressure on her to the point, when she commits suicide” (blog of drizzten).

“One of those ‘very leasts’ [was] George Bush’s personal complicity in the death (murder to be precise) of my friend Margie Schoedinger in September of 2003. Determining the exact whereabouts and contacts of . . . George Bush on September 21 thru 22, 2003, should be entirely lacking in difficulty” (Leola McConnell—Nevada Progressive Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010).

McConnell is correct: Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder where it culminated in her death.

Bush is a racist hate criminal and hates black people (please feel free to see my “GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY” blog). (Schoedinger was an African-American woman.)

BEWARE: If the president of the United States hates one—for whatever reasons—he can continuously criminally stalk one to the point that one cannot get away from it, and one ultimately commits suicide in desperation to escape. He can murder people in this way.

Bush is getting away with his murder of Schoedinger—with no sheriff, prosecutor, or court willing to uphold the rule of law.

Bush’s method of murdering Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.

Bush should confess, come out with the names of all of the people whom he murdered in the disgusting way he murdered Schoedinger, undergo execution, and accordingly find himself at the intersection where he would be free.

(There are thousands of copies of the information above on the Internet. It exists very extensively in all major search engines. Please feel free to go to any major search engine, type “George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her” or “Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder where it culminated in her death,” hit “Enter,” and find innumerable results.)

Recently the Supreme Court reversed a decision made by Sotomayor. Although many people (especially the Republicans) claim this will hurt her nomination to Supreme Court, the truth is she isn’t the first judge to be elected after the Supreme Court reversed a decision. Bloomberg states Supreme Court took a different angle on the case compared to Sotomayor. http://www.newsy.com/videos/will_reversal_reverse_sotomayor_s_fortunes Her reasoning could effect her nomination.
