I sometimes feel the same way. Another possible angle is why spend the political capital and why acknowledge the diatribes. The response to the Republican crap is these blogs, and they serve a purpose. I suspect we are seeing a fundamental change to Democracy. Joe Citizen can express himself, and that voice has a resonance, no matter how small.
I enjoy reading and I give it my best to express myself. I feel a sense of obligation, and you can read that in so many others!

Make no mistake, the response to the Republicans is being made and the Republicans are hearing it.
