Gov. Sarah Palin Quits Her Job
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced this morning from her home in Wasilla that she will not be seeking re-election and that she will be stepping down in a few weeks. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated as Alaska’s governor on July 25. A local NBC affiliate reports that “there was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.” Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News yesterday that Palin “is not a serious candidate for the presidency.” “You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you’re running for the presidency,” he said.
After running through her accomplishments as governor during the announcement, Palin said, “This success I am proud to take credit, for hiring the right people.” She said she decided to “veto” those “stimulus dollars” because “some of those dollars would harm Alaska and they harm America.” “So that Alaska may progress, I will not seek re-election as governor,” she said, adding, “I’ve determined it’s best to transfer the authority of governor to Lieutenant Governor Parnell.” Watch it (note the video feed cut out before Palin finished her statement):
If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It's an enormous gamble - but it could be a shrewd one. After all, she's freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues - and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska. I suppose she'll take a hit for leaving the governorship early - but how much of one? She's probably accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor, and is leaving a sympatico lieutenant governor in charge.
"Talking to people who are very close to Sarah Palin, I have been told that she has told her supporters that she is out of politics, period. She is fed up with politics. She doesn’t like her life. She feels like she has to raise her family. She’s sick of the commute from Wasilla to the capital and she really does not want to run for higher office. This is not the case where she is stepping down in order to figure the way for a presidential run. In fact, she has told some of her biggest backers in the national Republican Party that they are free to choose other candidates for 2012."

Apparently they’re going on about the economic collapse that’s already been going on for years but only caught the headlines as of October. But it’s all Obama’s fault. Nothing to do with stagnating wages for 30 years compensated by massive debt building and deregulated financial practices that have hit a tipping point.

I think this is a precursor to her running for President. She and her advisers think that just because she can draw large crowds at rallies, she will waltz into the White House in 2013.
While she is Governor of Alaska, she needs to be in the state and since it is a long way from the rest of the US it takes too much time to get to all of the fund raisers she needs to attend.
There may be a scandal, but I really think the main reason is she wants to run for President in 2012.

Since I spend over half my time around the world I have and will defend the actions of my President to ever foreign friend overseas that always choose to blame us for every mess they make. When home, I will exercise my right to debate the issues but I will never enter into the personal attacks. You may not agree with Palin, but to viciously attack her and her family is disgraceful. The facts of the lawsuits are unbelievable harassment. I respect politicians of both parties that sustain the vicious and personal attacks from both sides. I know because I have worked with politicians on both sides through the charities my wife and I support in some very dangerous places. I have seen diplomats on both sides do incredibly courageous acts in places like Bosnia and Kosovo to stand between the murderers and the innocent. But bloggers like several here do not believe in a two party system. Any differing view that does not match yours, you denigrate and abuse them. Had Palin made a bid for the presidency, I would not have supported her. But I respect people who are unafraid to put their name in the game. Unfortunately everyone has a breaking point and I cannot think of a women in political history that has had to put up with the attacks as this one.

There are many other politicians that have been treated worse than Palin. Much of the attacks were the result of her actions or statements. If she can’t handle the stress of these things, then she is not qualified to hold higher office. I will feel sorry for Alaska and the US Senate if she tries to run for Murkoski’s seat and wins. She is petulant and petty and these are not good characteristics for a President. She rationalizes away the matters that she needs to confront and be honest. Yeah, most of us were kind of hoping she’d run in 2012, too. Not because she’d “kick some major Democrat party A$$” (a snowball has a better chance in h*ll than that happening), but because it would lead to a spectacular implosion of the Republican Party.
The Republicans still don’t get it — that in order to survive, they need to return back to their traditional conservative values and kick the evangelicals, the neocons, and the warmongering yeehaws out of the party. They need to quit marketing a product that the people have already figured out is no good, and start providing some real solutions people can get behind. And they need to find a real leader for the party instead of putting a puppet in charge while special interests run the country. And a major purge of the characters who alienate the moderates the party so badly needs (Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, etc.) wouldn’t hurt.
Since the GOP refuses to face reality, they deserve to go down in a ball of flame. Then, out of the ashes will come a new GOP, or a new party (perhaps with a libertarian bent) will arise to take its place as one of the two major parties in the country while the old GOP goes the way of the Whigs.

I must disagree. Deserts are very pristine and all but a few square miles of the driest deserts have a wonderfully balanced, though delicate, ecosystem. A troll’s “river of consciousness” reminds me of the Love Canal or a toxic waste ditch.

But, at risk of going waaaaaay off topic, I had the experience of camping in Death Vally when they had, as of the early 70’s, the biggest rainfall in a couple decades. In one night they received something like ten average years worth of rain.
Well. All the roads were cut by flash floods so we had nothing else to do but wander around the immediate area of the campground. In the course of that day the entire desert exploded in flowers. Some on existing bushes and cacti but some of them leaped out of the ground and flowered from dormant seeds, or roots, that had been unnoticed for decades.
A desert appears empty but it’s full of potential. A troll’s brain, on the other hand, is positively noxious. It starts out empty and will never bloom even if it receives water.

Well, my knowledge about educational trends is that neither a GED nor diploma gets you far, and Higher Ed is needed for real mobility. So both the GED and General H.S. Diploma (w/o the bells and whistles like AP classes and foreign language) are roughly the same achievements. Both credentials can get you starter employment and into college, although with GED recipients the recommendation is to attend a community college first and build a course repertoire that you won’t find on a GED transcript.
