Cincinnati Enquirer Columnist Issues A Non-Apology For Using Doctored Franken Photo, Deletes Original Post

On July 1, Cincinnati Enquirer columnist Peter Bronson wrote a column titled, “Minnesota — the joke is on you,” in which he wondered whether Al Franken will “embarrass his party and become a kick-me sign on the back of Democrats at election time.” To make his point, he posted this image:

frankencin1

A little googling would have shown Bronson that the image is fake. As ThinkProgress first reported in 2006, the Ohio Republican Party photoshopped an AP image:

Bronson’s original post has since disappeared. Although the Cincinnati Beacon — and then some of Bronson’s own commenters — pointed out that the image wasn’t real, Bronson didn’t seem to care. Yesterday, Bronson went into his comments section and was unapologetic in using the fake image:

Yes, the photo of Franken in a diaper was apparently altered. But it’s not exacly [sic] a big reach to believe it could have come from one of his SNL skits. It resonates because people find it easy to see Franken that way.

Bronson finally posted a “non-apology” yesterday afternoon, writing, “Franken did many things on Saturday Night Live that could be embarrassing to a Senator. But apparently, that was not one of them. It turns out the picture was photoshopped.” He also claimed that he doesn’t “knowingly run false pictures,” and instead posted a different “goofy” picture of Franken.

No word yet on why Bronson’s original post was deleted. (His post from yesterday notes that the link no longer works but he’s “not sure why.”) Ironically, as the MinnPost points out, Bronson’s column is called, “Bronson is Always Right.”

Update The NRSC has a new ad out today trying to make Franken look crazy and angry. As Dave Weigel notes, the footage is distorted. Franken was actually telling a touching anecdote about the late senator Paul Wellstone. To justify the ad, the NRSC pointed to the diaper photo and said, "We’ll certainly consider substituting it for this one if they would prefer though." When journalists pointed out that the photo was doctored, the NRSC simply replied, "You'll note the link is to the Los Angeles Times, one of the largest newspapers in the country - if there's a question about the authenticity of the photo, you should direct your question to the LA Times."

Just wait – once franken gets his bearing, he is going to make these and the rest of the lying liars look ridiculous.

Senator Franken has a history of calling these liars out.

Senator Franken doesn’t want to hear about being ‘# 60′.
He’s already stated his job is to be #2, the second MN Senator.

Senator Franken is deeply honored to be taking Paul Wellstone’s seat.

Senator Franken will prove to be skilled, honest & fair.

Senator Franken is already driving wingnuts even crazier!

Do Baucus’ Ties To Health Care Industry Compromise His Reform Efforts?

If you’re a long-time politico, you may have seen it coming: Standing between progressives and fundamental health care reform is a 30-year Senate veteran with a reputation cemented long ago as a deal-maker — or less charitably, as a sellout. Montana’s Max Baucus is exactly the sort of centrist often embraced by Washington insiders for “getting things done”–but whose record of acquiescing to special interests makes progressives cringe. As chairman of the Finance Committee he’s weathered his share of controversies. There’s no bypassing Baucus entirely. And he’s enjoying his position at the nexus of the reform battle.

    Oh, that is AWESOME!

Just picture how useful this excuse is going to be in the years ahead:

“Yes, the photo of Bill O’Reilly with a fake journalism prize was apparently altered. But it’s not exacly [sic] a big reach to believe it could have come from one of his books. It resonates because people find it easy to see O’Reilly that way.”

    or

“Yes, the photo of Limbaugh wth a small Dominican boy sex-worker was apparently altered. But it’s not exacly [sic] a big reach to believe it could have come from one of his rips to the Caribbean. It resonates because people find it easy to see Limbaugh that way.”

    or even

“Yes, the photo of Mitt Romney in a Nazi uniform was apparently altered. But it’s not exacly [sic] a big reach to believe it could have come from one of his rallies. It resonates because people find it easy to see Romney that way.”

    This could be FUN!!!

You see, Mr. Bronson… the thing is this: Al Franken was not a Senator when he performed on SNL and did those “many things… that could be embarrassing to a Senator”. He was a professional comedian.

He ran for the Senate with that experience on his résumé, with the voters of Minnesota fully informed of his past careers.

He won that Senate seat. There is no joke on the voters of Minnesota. They knew exactly who they were electing.

  18. Another Joe says:

We Are Only a Few Senators Away from Having Much Better Health Care

    By Paul Krugman

Fundamental health reform is now within reach. Obama and activists need to get those last “centrists” on board.
    Tools

The Congressional Budget Office has looked at the future of American health insurance, and it works. A few weeks ago there was a furor when the budget office “scored” two incomplete Senate health reform proposals — that is, estimated their costs and likely impacts over the next 10 years. One proposal came in more expensive than expected; the other didn’t cover enough people.

Health reform, it seemed, was in trouble. But last week the budget office scored the full proposed legislation from the Senate committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP). And the news — which got far less play in the media than the downbeat earlier analysis — was very, very good. Yes, we can reform health care. Let me start by pointing out something serious health economists have known all along: on general principles, universal health insurance should be eminently affordable.

After all, every other advanced country offers universal coverage, while spending much less on health care than we do. For example, the French health care system covers everyone, offers excellent care and costs barely more than half as much per person as our system. And even if we didn’t have this international evidence to reassure us, a look at the U.S. numbers makes it clear that insuring the uninsured shouldn’t cost all that much, for two reasons.

Key Senator: With Franken Seated No Need for Compromise on Public Option

Senator Schumer criticizes Senators wanting to compromise on health care and draws a line in the sand.

One of the leading Senate Democrats in the health care reform battle said that the seating of Al Franken has given the party the purpose and direction it needs to ensure that a public option for insurance coverage remains in any bill.

“If you did a consensus within the Democratic Party, you would find the level-playing-field public option to be the answer,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. “And now that we have 60 votes, it seems to me like we don’t have to turn it inside out for something we don’t like.”

Emanuel forced Obama to interrupt his diplomacy in Russia to release this statement:

I am pleased by the progress we’re making on health care reform and still believe, as I’ve said before, that one of the best ways to bring down costs, provide more choices, and assure quality is a public option that will force the insurance companies to compete and keep them honest. I look forward to a final product that achieves these very important goals.

Big KUDOS to Obama – and it does go to show that he needs progressives and liberals to hold people’s feet to the fire and hold BOTH SIDES accountable for meaningful healthcare reform!

With the recent announcement for Sarah Palin’s resignation coinciding in proximity to the announcement of Al Franken’s acceptance into the U.S. Senate, the one thing that stands at its intersection is…Saturday Night Live.

While SNL does satire a lot of politics, the satire of Palin was not only hilarious but on the mark. The unintentional effect, albeit minor and possibly indirect, was the defeat of the Republican Party in November.

Now the GOP and its supporters, with Palin’s withdrawal, see red meat with Franken’s election. No doubt about it–this is just the start of the GOP’s attack on the closest connection to “liberal celebrity” and SNL itself. Fox News and all of the conservative blogs are going to be ruthless in their smearing of Franken’s career and his inexperience in Congress.

    vitter:

A sexual fetish that consists of defecating while wearing diapers during an act of sex.

Named for Senator David Vitter from Louisiana. In July 2007, Senator Vitter was exposed as a client of the DC Madame. Later investigations showed that Vitter was also a client of the Canal Street Brothel in New Orleans. Further investigations revealed Vitter’s sexual diaper fetish.
As I was about to cum I took a VITTER in my diapers.

The myopic desire to insult instead of owning up to the failures in the GOP has put them in a tailspin. Remember fiscal responsibility? Smaller government? Govt. out of people’s lives? All platforms of the GOP that were abandoned under Bush. Instead of owning up to that they want to point at pictures.

    i understand both sides, really…

“But it’s not exacly [sic] a big reach to believe it could have come from one of her hunting parties.”

Again- if you had read the article you would realize that I was pointing out how ridiculous Bronson’s defense was…

I thought posting the almost word for word (I only substituted Palin for Franken) argument was funny for the ‘tounge-in-cheek humor aspect’ and yet you STILL call it my argument as if I were genuinely arguing that the Palin picture is okay to use in op-eds and political ads ’cause most people ‘ignorantly’ think she is a ‘redneck yahoo’ (all your words…)

The fact that you can’t recognize the ridiculousness of the argument when it’s parroted word for word and in fact mistake it for my own argument sort of shoots down your apparent ‘it’s obvious that it’s only for laughs’ argument, doesn’t it?

  171. misscoleopteramolly says:

So Bronson seems to feel that because Al Franken was an entertainer that any picture of him is fair game, including one of him in a diaper and bunny ears — even though he never played a character close to that.

I wonder if he believes that picture would be appropriate for Fred Grandy, Sonny Bono, Ronald Reagan, or Arnold Schwarzenegger — all of whom were entertainers prior to being elected to public office, and all of whom have played characters in some rather silly situations. It wouldn’t be difficult to photoshop any face in there.

  172. belaccifer lacca says:

Tracy:No, because the bunny ears and the diaper don’t seem to have any relation to his personality or previous actions.

So if I were to post a picture of Sarah Palin photo-shopped onto this body…

No wonder you needed his analysis of the day… he had a direct line to Lynne Cheney! That explains everything!

Many of those, which apparently includes yourself, thought the Palin photo to be funny because of her face on a gun toting body and as YOU said…

You know, that’s fine. For those of us unwashed masses on the Internet making fun of the others’ politicians, photoshopping is perfectly OK. For a published columnist, it’s not. They should be expected to check and see whether something’s real or fake, and not deal in the fake.

There’s an entire range of decorum and responsibility that’s expected in political discourse, from elected officials at the top, through newspaper journalism, to the MSM, to the semi-pro blogosphere, and finally at the bottom is partisan commenters like ourselves.

The problem I’m seeing is that wingnuts don’t seem to understand that. When one of their politicians goes off their rocker, they respond by saying “well I saw a blog person saying the same sort of thing,” apparently oblivious to the fact that comparing their politician to our anonymous Internet dweller isn’t a fair comparision – to their politician. And this happens all the time.

Look, go ahead and pass around ridiculous shooped photos of Franken all you want at freepers or aceofspadeshq. Have fun, laugh your ass off at them. But when that creeps into your newspaper op-eds or your politicians’ speeches, then somebody screwed up big time, and we’re going to call you on it. When the entire discourse of the right wing has devolved to its own lowest common denominator, then it has finally and ultimately failed as a political philosophy.

  213. pete says:

    OT:
I already posted this on the Palin thread and I don’t wish to spam but, since I never grow tired of my cleverness, I have to repost it here.

I was struck by the odd phrase, “barracudas hunt in packs”. The obvious gaffe is that fish travel in schools, not packs. But, I decided to do a little reading about barracuda because I used to fish for them and recalled that we seldom caught more than one at a time/place.

Well. I found this tidbit at Wikipedia:
Adult barracudas are more or less solitary in their habits, while young and half-grown fish frequently congregate in schools. These fish do not care for their young.

So? Barracuda do not “hunt in packs” or schools once they are adults and the part about not caring for their young is just funny. But then, I dug up an old booklet, ca. 1970, about the sport fish of California and I found this bit that describes Bible Spice even better.

Under the heading “sport value” I found this:

“The barracuda strikes quickly from ambush. Good for one strong run then becomes exhausted and submits to the net.

Hell’s bells! She really is a barracuda.

No, advocacy organizations are a separate category. I’d put them just below the MSM.

The entire point of my post was to describe that the categories are different, and you go and screw it up. NAACP =/= Barack Obama. Fcuk, you’re stoopid. But let’s go ahead and add your category into the list. It now goes (from highest responsibility to lowest)…

    1. Elected officials
    2. Print journalists

    4. Cable TV news
    5. Advocacy organizations
    6. Major websites
    7. Minor websites and blogs
    8. Commenters at any websites

Now, if you find anything else that is not one of the things I listed above, you do not just combine it with the highest level like you did last time. Instead you add it as a new category where appropriate. I’ll be back to check your work, dumbass.

  221. belaccifer lacca says:

Are you suggesting that Marcinko was not a SEAL and that his counter-terrorism expertise doesn’t far exceed anything Clarke has ever done or anyone you know?

Yes- I’m actually suggesting that the head of counter-terrorism under both Clinton and G.W. Bush probably has more first hand knowledge and ‘expertise’ regarding both the events that led up to 9/11 and the subsequent reaction in the White House than a former Navy SEAL who last served in the mid-80’s… surprising, I know.

But yet also strangely logical when you actually think about it.

Just because someone calls themselves a Republican doesn’t mean that he/she is a conservative. I mean you are aware that Snowe, Chaffe, and Specter are not conservatives….right?

You are aware that just because you disagree with someone that doesn’t make them a ‘partisan hack’… right?

You have shown ZERO evidence that anything that Clarke wrote is inaccurate and you have admitted that after a few pages you didn’t even bother to read anymore and instead turned to an autobiography published nine years before the events of September 11, 2001 simply because it reinforced your preconceived notions about counter-terrorism.

So you are aware that even though you may think of yourself as an expert you have ZERO credibility on this issue… right?

  224. belaccifer lacca says:

Marcinko’s accounts and conclusions aren’t based on his personal politics

As I have pointed out time and again- neither are Clarke’s.
And his accounts and conclusions have the added virtue of being actually relevant to the discussion of 9/11 as he had first hand knowledge of the events that led up to it and the aftermath in the White House… get it?

    Tracy__5 Says:

Are you suggesting that Marcinko was not a SEAL and that his counter-terrorism expertise doesn’t far exceed anything Clarke has ever done or anyone you know?

Clarke: Department of Defense employee; State Department employee; member of the Senior Executive Service specializing in intelligence, cyber security and counter-terrorism; counter-terrorism czar for both the the Clinton and Bush Administrations.

Marcinko: United States Navy SEAL Team Six.

I don’t have any problems with Marcinko’s service, but it’s hardly even remotely close to the high-level experience that Clarke has. It’s like you’re claiming that an army private knows more than a five-star general about the appropriate defense posture for the United States in the 21st Century.

    .

    Tracy__5 Says:

Clinton was never convicted even though he committed a federal crime.

Lying under oath in a deposition relevant to a sexual harrassment suit against you isn’t a federal crime. It is a crime, but not federal.

If you’re going to try to present your arguments effectively, it’s important to be correct about the relevance of your comparisons.

    .

    Tracy__5 Says:

Just because someone calls themselves a Republican doesn’t mean that he/she is a conservative. I mean you are aware that Snowe, Chaffe, and Specter are not conservatives….right?

They’re center-right. They’re what “conservative” used to mean before most of you wingnuts went completely insane. I’d still call them conservative based on the appropriate definition of the term.

    .

    Tracy__5 Says:

Marcinko’s accounts and conclusions aren’t based on his personal politics, just his experiences as field operative something Clark has never even come close to.

If I need to ask someone how to pull the trigger when I’ve got a terrorist in my scope then I’ll ask Marcinko. If I need to ask someone how the U.S. can work with other nations to reduce the threat of international terrorism then I’ll ask Clarke, whose experience as an expert at the international level is something Marcinko has never even come close to.

  234. belaccifer lacca says:

not to mention the crap about him really being a Republican.

Ahh, so he fooled Ronald Reagan into believing he was a Republican so that he could lie in wait for 15 or so years through 4 administrations until after an attack like 9/11 where he could then take personal responsibility for not doing enough to make W. understand the dangers of Al Qaeda so he could get a book deal and try (unsuccessfully) to get Kerry elected?

    He’s quite a mastermind.

  235. belaccifer lacca says:

Expertise about the events leading up to 9/11 doesn’t automatically make on a counter terrorism expert.

No but 30+ years working on counter-terrorism in the State Department and being elevated to counter-terrorism czar generally indicate more than a passing familiarity with the subject, don’t you agree?

  236. ElBruce says:

    Tracy__5 Says:

I never said he was inaccurate…only that his argument that going to Iraq to take out Saddam was not the right is wrong. It’s an opinion just like yours.

What was the prior justification for taking out Saddam?

    How was it right?

  237. belaccifer lacca says:

I never said he was inaccurate…only that his argument that going to Iraq to take out Saddam was not the right is wrong. It’s an opinion just like yours.

Ahh, so you don’t dispute the facts, only the opinions?

You don’t dispute that Clarke could not get a meeting to discuss Al-Qaeda at all in the months leading up to 9/11?
Or that the first thing that Cheney and Bush asked him to do after 9/11 was to ‘uncover’ the link between Iraq and Al-Qaeda and that he could find NO such link? That in fact he found that such a link was HIGHLY unlikely?
That Lynne Cheney repeatedly hung up the direct line between the situation room and the bunker where she and Dick and Condi were secreted so that she could better hear Fox New’s reporting of the events? And possibly hampered the response of the FAA to the initial hijackings as a result?

    These things you don’t dispute?

    Great.

  238. belaccifer lacca says:

Some field operatives have varying opinions I am sure. Depends on their experiences. I don’t like it.

Find ONE field operative who thinks it’s a good idea.

    Just one.

    I can wait.

  239. belaccifer lacca says:

Why would I have posted it?

Why did you answer: Op-ed columns…no problem. Political ads….absolutely. when I asked if this sort of photo-shopped deception was acceptable in op-ed columns or political ads?

That’s why I thought you were okay with it… you said you were.

    Get it?

We have a winner in the category: Freudian slip of the day.

Different people have different experiences. Based on those experiences, they reach different conclusions. Trolls can’t accept that fact because they refuse to adjust their conclusions based on experience.

They just can’t wrap their heads around the idea of changing one’s mind based on experience. That’s why they cling to dogma regardless of their own experiences.

They view changing one’s mind as treason. This is what happens when one substitutes loyalty to ideology for actual cognitive processing.

    Got it.

    Does it qualify as dishonest?

    or self-serving? or self-deluding?

Tracy lies constantly. Sometimes, it’s obvious that he deludes himself into believing his own lies. He live in a make believe world of deception. As joe cantwell noted in #330, Tracy’s lies often begin to contradict each other. Many times, his lies about his personal life piece together to form a bizzare picture. In this case, he has admitted that he lied, but has rationalized his lie by convincing himself that you are not worthy of being told the truth. In this way, Tracy keeps his delusional self-image by telling himself it is OK to lie to those who are beneath him.

I find the psychology of the wingnut somewhat fascinating. One of the things I’ve always wanted to understand is – when they pass around blatant falsehoods, ones which are easy to check and verify, someone in the chain of information made it up as a complete lie; the rest of them either were duped or were in on the lie. So why would they lie to each other constantly if they’re on the same side? And if one was merely duped, wouldn’t they harbor some resentment against all of the other wingnuts lying to them constantly?

I guess your explanation covers why they’d lie to us. Or maybe they’re all in on it, and all know they’re lies. But it seems a stretch to say that the entire right wing is a massive conspiracy of people making up crazy shit. Surely at least some of them have to honestly believe the crazy shit they get worked up about.

    .

    Tracy__5 Says:

Again I am not the one who didn’t understand the first time why I posted the Palin photo.

So why did you post the Palin photo? I get that it was shooped, but it’s hardly very insulting to her. She is a patriot, she is pro-gun, and most folks consider her attractive – so there are no implied insults there. It’s actually a somewhat flattering image. Unlike the photoshopped pic of Franken. Go find one that’s a lot less flattering and you might have a point of some sort. But it still wouldn’t be relevant to the fact that the Franken image was used in a newspaper op-ed and passed off as true.

    I did tell the truth.

Yes, when you admitted that you lied, it was probably the first time you have told the truth. Of course, you couldn’t stop there. you had to dehumanize belaccifer lacca in order to justify your lie.

  251. shoeless says:

So why would they lie to each other constantly if they’re on the same side?

Charles Krauthammer told us what is going on. They have created an alternate reality. He came right out and told Fox News viewers that Fox was lying to them. Fox went to court in order to be able to legally lie, and call it “news”. So, it is no secret to the wingnuts, yet they continue to consume the lies spilling forth from their TV sets and radios. I’ve come to the conclusion that they lie to each other in order to make their bizzaro world feel real to them. It has become a complete lifestyle. They have learned how to fully embrace and live the lie. That is why someone like Tracy comes here and spins weird and fantastic tales about his personal life.

  263. shoeless says:

Is George W. Bush a liar for telling hundreds of documented lies in order to invade Iraq?

You don’t want to play this game Tracy. You’ve got the blood of hundreds of thoushands of innocent women and children on your hands from your support of George W. Bush and the lies he told about Iraq. And that is real reality.

Peter Bronson just got axed from the Enquirer.

  269. belaccifer lacca says:

    Tracy.
I understand it’s more exciting to get into a name calling spit fight than to deal with your own ineptitude and the silliness of your arguments but let me help you get back on track, if I can.

#1- Why did you say you thought these photo shopped pictures were fine in op-ed pieces and political ads if you agree with me that they aren’t? See #329…

#2- Why did you say that you would read, ‘Against all Enemies’ if you had no intention of doing so? See entire second half of thread…

#3- Do you dispute the FACTS of 9/11 as laid out in Richard Pearle’s book or do you accept that they are a true representaion of the events of that day from his perspective?
    See #325…

#4- Why should anyone take you seriously when you refuse to answer direct questions and admit that you will not tell the truth to posters here (myself) in order to further your agenda? See #251 and #300…

  270. belaccifer lacca says:

Did you? I can’t seem to remember the title though.

Yeah, I did. Although now I don’t remember what it was either. But I dutifully checked it out from the library and read, like I said I would. And then gave you my opinion. In detail. You then said that you had put down ‘Against all Enemies’ after a few pages. Lame.

    #209 should have said…

    “Op-ed columns…no problem. Political ads….absolutely NOT.”

Okay. But it didn’t. That’s why I kept asking you to clarify. You didn’t. And don’t tell me what should or should not have been asked- it’s on YOU to make yourself clear. It is you bad.

BTW you were the one who brought up the book thing for no apparent reason. Talk about silliness and off track.

I brought it up for this reason:
    Tracy__5 Says:
“it all depends on your strength and tenacity.”

    Which is unmatched here.

You ran away from the book thing a year ago… so I was just being ‘tenacious,’ Even though I cannot hope to match your strength or tenacity,

And yes, I meant Richard Clarke. I’m glad to hear that you don’t think he’s lying. Why do you think that Bush and Cheney asked him to find a link between al Qaeda and Iraq the day after 9/11? Why do you think that he couldn’t? Why do you think that Lynne kept hanging up the phone line between the bunker and the situation room on 9/11? Why do you think Mr. Clarke never got that meeting with W. about al Qaeda?

  271. belaccifer lacca says:

That right there is a lie because you could have only purchased it from a book store just as I had to purchase (and then exchange for better reading) Clarke’s book.

    Bull.

I got it from the library… are you an idiot?

Tracy- you are full of crap and you know it.

If you had been clear then I would have ‘got’ it. Or maybe I would have ‘got’ it if you hadn’t answered my direct question with the complete opposite position you now say you had all along. Get it?

You are not clear. I checked out ‘Against all Enemies’ from the library as well… why are you so full of shit?

Remind me what book it was and I’ll check it out again… or I’ll just search my library history… you are a strange and weird person Tracy.

And totally and completely wrong about a lot of things.

  272. belaccifer lacca says:

Maybe libraries in Texas suck, Tracy… but in Seattle they have all kinds of books… including ones that make sense to idiots like you.

  273. belaccifer lacca says:

Do you want to restart our little book club, Tracy?

You tell me what I should read and I will and discuss it with you as long as you (actually, no fooling) read Clarke’s book cover to cover?

Why do I feel like Charlie Brown to your Lucy, Tracy?

  274. belaccifer lacca says:

“or I’ll just search my library history”

I have the book right here in front of me. If it is that easy to do you shouldn’t have a problem looking at the list a figuring out which book it was. Let me know when you find out the title because it wasn’t that long ago.

Oh for god’s sake- you’re such a baby, Tracy.
    You know that?

  275. belaccifer lacca says:

How about you tell me the title since it appears that the Seattle Public Library doesn’t keep an ongoing list of what I checked out over a YEAR ago… (I thought they did… I was wrong, ‘My Bad’)

  276. belaccifer lacca says:

Was it Jawbreaker? I vaugely remember reading that at around the same time and it sort of blamed Clinton for not going after Bin Laden forcefully enough (which you would like) and it read like a ‘tough guy’ screenplay (which you seem to love)

    That it?

  277. belaccifer lacca says:

I don’t recall this book at all really but would love to read it again and discuss it with you… if you’re up to it this time. I don’t want to waste my time on your silliness again.

  278. belaccifer lacca says:

The deal is that you read “Against all Enemies” Remember?

    And “Suree….”???

You are quite a funny guy, aren’t ya?

I’m not the one who promised to do something and then failed, remember?

How long do you need to ‘read’ Clarke’s book?

  279. belaccifer lacca says:

Did you want me to add ‘Jawbreaker’ and ‘Rogue Warrior’ too?

I’m a pretty fast reader and ‘Rogue Warrior’ looks like a nice bit of fluff… I always enjoyed Tom Clancy novels…

All you have to do is read Clarke’s book. Like you said you would. And then didn’t.

  280. belaccifer lacca says:

    Sounds good.

Yes. I’m insisting that I do the things I say I do, that’s correct. I remember reading a couple of books in the ‘tough guy’ mold of counter-terrorism… one was ‘Jawbreaker.’

I don’t remember ‘Ghost’ specifically anymore… no. I read a lot and the stuff that doesn’t impress me gets shuffled aside in my noggin. But I don’t say I’ve done something or am going to do something and then not do it.

But if I told you about my opinions then, which I did, I read it. I’m sure it’ll come back to me when I read it again.

Yes. Again. Some of us do the things we say we’ll do here and manage to keep our jobs, and families and other things as well.

  281. belaccifer lacca says:

Well in this instance we will have to agree to disagree with your personal assessment of yourself.

    Boy, you’re a jerk aren’t you, Tracy?

That’s my assessment of you. I can merely go by the asinine things you say about yourself and others on this blog…

Here’s hoping you rise above that and the demands of ‘family, work and other pressing matters’ and follow through… I have doubts.

Based on past performance. Or failure to perform in the past.

    See you around.

  282. belaccifer lacca says:

Are you sure that Clarke was not just pissed off because he got demoted?

Maybe after you read the book you can speak with some authority about it… doubtful, but maybe.

  283. belaccifer lacca says:

No- Tracy… you are the one calling me a liar… and couching it in the following nonsense:

Well in this instance we will have to agree to disagree with your personal assessment of yourself.

That’s after you’ve spent weeks calling shoeless a ‘liar’ for merely doubting your assessment of yourself and your racism (or lack there of) based on your having a black friend (or lack there of).

    So to then type this:

Well in this instance we will have to agree to disagree with your personal assessment of yourself.

in reaction to my assuring you that I’ve done what I say I’ve done is pretty asinine and stupid.

Prove I didn’t read it and I’ll prove you are a racist. See how asinine this conversation you’re having is? Proof is boring… and you’re becoming so as well.

Please do go through what I’ve said on this thread… perhaps it will be instructive. My assessment of you is that you are a pompous ass… I will discuss Ghost with you is detail (again) after I read it (again) because I follow through when I say I’m going to do something.
Despite my almost certain disappointment regarding your failure to fulfill your end of the bargain. (again)

    Sigh.

  284. belaccifer lacca says:

What proof could I offer that you’d accept? I spoke of the book when I read it… you obviously remember because you accused me of copying my thoughts off of an online review.

You’re a pompous gasbag and you can call me a liar all you want… that don’t make it so.

You are the one who backed out on our deal, (you admitted it) which makes you- if not a liar, certainly untrustworthy.

And boy? Patronize someone else… ’cause you got nothing on me, all I’m asking for is a tiny ’shread’ [sic] of intellectual honest and rigor, ‘boy.’
