In a new interview with ABC News, Sarah Palin left the door open to running for national political office in the future. She said that the “frivolous ethics violations” that plagued her during her time in Alaska wouldn’t be as much as a problem if she were in the White House because of the all-powerful “Department of Law” that the President has at his disposal:
I think on a national level, your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we’ve been charged with and automatically throw them out.
For the record, no such agency exists at the national level. The state of Alaska does have a Department of Law, but it apparently wasn’t able to keep Palin safe from “some of the things [she's] been charged with.”
Aren’t you glad this bug-wit is not a heartbeat away from the presidency?
I know I am.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:53 amPalin needs to get a job at the Department of Housekeeping.
In order of intelligence:
Dirt -> bag of rocks -> Sarah Palin
PEACE
July 7th, 2009 at 10:54 amCould she be a bigger rube?
July 7th, 2009 at 10:55 amOn the other hand, the Bush White House had a Department of Lawlessness. That explains why Scooter Libby has a felony conviction, Alberto Gonzales receives an unemployment check and Regent Law School doesn’t have many graduates hired by the government anymore.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:59 amThis woman is so patently stupid there is no hope of her ever rising above her current third grade level of detail and attention span. And to think that 30 percent of the American pubic believes this blathering fool is Presidential material?
I just with that everyone with ethics (that is everyone but Fixed News and Rush and those of similar ilk) would stop reporting on anything this meathead says. The sooner that happens the sooner she goes away.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:59 amShe’s so unconventional, she’s such a maverick, she’s such a box of rocks…next up…time to cash in with a program on Faux News,,,
July 7th, 2009 at 11:00 amshouldn’t that be OUR dept. of law?
pull down your dress Sarah…..your secessionist panties are showing
July 7th, 2009 at 11:01 amWell yeah. Bush & Cheney got away with torture, murder, and war. The White House could easily grant Palin a little abuse of office power and embezzling. Hell, a few thousand doesn’t even compare to the cost of the Iraq War!!
July 7th, 2009 at 11:01 amThe department of dumbass will be protected by the department of law, in her head, anyway.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:02 amMike Hunt Says:

July 7th, 2009 at 11:02 amWhen are all those big bad Washingtonian-types, and mean media-types, gonna’ leave little Sarah alone? Haven’t they hurt her feelings enough? Now look what they’ve made her do: quit her job! (But for the betterment of Alaska, so not all bad.)
If she’s gonna’ run to be your President she needs respect, and honor, and kindness, and – just quit PICKING on her!!
July 7th, 2009 at 11:03 amWaitaminnit — Sarah Palin thinks that the POTUS can get away with ethics violations (and possibly other crimes and misdemeanors) because of a “Department of Law”? Hey, no wonder she wants that gig. Not to serve her country or make the world a better place, but to use the perks to her personal advantage.
Methinks she spent so much time studying Bush and Cheney that she really believes they’re representative of what a presidential administration should be.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:03 amOh come on now, give Ms. Chucklehead a break here, she was obviously talking about the Justice department. She was just being folksy.
Now about her “If I were in the White House” comment. Sarah, the only way you will ever get in the White House is if you are invited or if you go on one of those White House tours.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:05 amOK, with all due respect, TP, we get it — Caribou Barbie’s a moron. We got it last fall, too; it’s old news, and we really don’t need to be reminded about it daily — you’re just playing the game she wants you to pay.
Meanwhile, the White House appears to be backing away from its commitment to a public health care option. Let’s please spend more of our time talking about that, and let Bambie McAirhead slip back into her Alaskan oblivion, shall we???
July 7th, 2009 at 11:06 amThis stooge continues to announce to the rest of the planet what an idiot she is..with NO improvement in sight…
When push comes to shove and the rest of the elected leaders from countries around the planet are truly asked their opinion on SP, after the initial “WHO” reaction – they tell the questioner the truth and reply – “Never mind”…
July 7th, 2009 at 11:07 amI am astonished that in so brief a time since the close of the Bush 43 administration, we discover that someone in an executive position is stupider than George W. Bush.
I never thought we’d see it happen.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:08 amAfter her long, rambling, breathless, incoherent press conference I wonder if there will some day be a movie made about her, if so I have the title: Breathless In Wasilla or Clueless In Wasilla.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:09 amI guess we should all be grateful that we never had to face a “Todd, what do ya suppose this button does?” moment.
PEACE
July 7th, 2009 at 11:10 amHa! I think she meant to say “Gestapo”.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:12 amIt’s not Sarah’s fault that she is confused. She is mistaking the Justice Department for a White House cabinet because Bush treated it as his personal law firm for 8 years.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:12 amChill out, TP.
The Pentacostal Pork-Barrel Princess of Wasilla is just playing out her ultimate fantasy here. She is pretending that she’s a contestant on her favorite mavericky celebreality show — “I’m a Celebrity — Get Me Out of Here”.
I say that we should just fulfill her request. No more posts. No more attention paid to this useless little twit. Just call 1-800-PULLPALIN and vote her off the island. End of story.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:13 amDogfather…forget about health care, Sarah Palin resigned, Michael Jackson died, Steve McNair was murdered, the blonde girl is still missing in Aruba and Anna Nicole Smith is still dead. *snark*
July 7th, 2009 at 11:14 amThe problem becomes a tad clearer. The Hockey Marm thinks her ethics violations are frivolous, i.e., just trivial matters. Governators can do no wrong, ya know, and you betcha, when the Queen’s Inquisitor General receives that tacky liberal complaint about ethical problems, why he’ll just whack that liberal source like one of them salmons.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:14 amSome one seriously needs to sit Palin down and teach the Constitution. Thank God she is leaving public office, hopefully for good.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:15 amIn Sarah Palin’s mind, all things are possible.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:17 amIf all the ethics charges are frivolous, why was she required to pay back money on two separate occasions? In my corner of the world if one is forced to repay monies it’s a sign of wrongdoing.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/geoffrey-dunn/palin-hit-with-more-ethic_b_226667.html
July 7th, 2009 at 11:17 amYeah, yeah, TP. Palin’s not a bright bulb. We know that. Note here that she probably wasn’t refering to an actual place called the “Department of Law”, but rather the common noun designation.
She was probably jabbing at President Obama’s executive branch and refering to it as the “department of law”, considering the conservative opinion that Obama’s pushing for all of the law reform himself like a despot.
So let’s just chill here and wait for Palin to attempt a national surge. THEN go to town.

“For the record, no such agency [a Department of Law] exists at the national level.”
Not by that name, but there are the Office of the White House Counsel and the Office of White House Counsel. Not to mention the DoJ (but that isn’t “at the White House.”)
It seems to me that attacking her based on an issue of terminology undercuts or diminishes the many real reasons to criticize here
July 7th, 2009 at 11:19 am“In what respect, Charlie?”
July 7th, 2009 at 11:21 amThe repiggies truly are the Party of Stupid. There are still quite a number of repiggies who take this woman quite seriously, even after this sort of nonsense.

July 7th, 2009 at 11:22 amWTF is she talking about? What I would like to know is what kind of drugs is she on? Bat$hit crazy!
July 7th, 2009 at 11:22 amSarah Palin is a mean cheerleader plotting to sue her enemies who say mean and terrible things about her. Apparently she didn’t think it important to inform the AK Lt. Governor of her decision to quit her job until a day or so before her pathetic joke of a press conference. But she was able to call Cheney and Rudy G. weeks in advance with her decision. The woman is a b**ch. A self centered self serving b**ch. I caught a moment of her photo op with the MSM while she was fishing with her family this morning. Hubris comes to mind when I look at her, and a feeling of nausea
July 7th, 2009 at 11:24 amYou make a fair point, but terminology is important at the level to which she aspires, and it demonstrates how woefully unprepared she was and still is for any position of national significance.
The fact that Alaska could tolerate her low-information style of governing for as long as it did says a good bit about that state.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:24 amBe careful, folks. She is no dumber than the doodling Chimp who just left the nation in a shambles. The morons adored him; they adore her. They are barely half-wits who would vote for a fellow half-wit in a heartbeat.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:26 amOK, I finally get it. Sarah Palin is a truly brilliant performance art comedienne. She is sending up the political class with barbs more stinging than Colbert can even begin to imagine. She makes a mockery of an amateurs like Andy Kaufman or Borat/Bruno. Every time someone gets angry or outraged, she scores her comedy gold. It will take a while for it all to sink in, but she has revolutionized the comedy frontier. Kudos and kudos again.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:26 amShades of Ted Stevens!
Hmmm,
You, as Mayor, pass a bill for $13M for a ’sports arena’. Then, as a ‘favor’, the contractor builds you a new house, partially from the materials for the arena.
You’ve heard of the Bridge to Nowhere.
This could be the ‘House in Nowhere’.
To Sarah, ethics are about as meaningful as words.

That’s why TP needs to keep shining light on this batshit nutzoid woman — and why we need to keep hammering our Congress Critters on health care reform.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:27 amFor the folks who want to talk about health care, there’s a thread right below this one.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:32 amDamn those pesky ethics!
July 7th, 2009 at 11:32 amThe only way I can see Bible Spice regaining momentum for a run at the Presidency is if she announces her run before her successor is sworn in. If she tries to play coy for a year or so before declaring? She’s toast. The GOP will destroy her without anyone else needing to do a thing.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:36 amHow the hell can anyone take this dope seriously ?
Listening to her prattle on about any subject makes less sense than wire-tapping on-going conversations inside mental institutions…….
July 7th, 2009 at 11:37 amHey, your there’ and dat dem… Department of Law
Whatta maroon!
I think what she is really trying to say if that with the power of the presidency, she could SQUASH anyone that dared even question her.
She is really just saying that she would be able to more-fully abuse her power and do whatever she wants.
ummmmmmmm… that’s a good reason to send her to the White House, isn’t it (oh boy – this one’s insane).
On a more positive note – thanks for post downstairs. Progressives need to keep up on healthcare reform and not let the wackos overshadow the “deal making”.
For obama to be successful this term, he needs us to keep on him to pass meaningful reform. We need to make sure they know we expect his to show us “Yes We Can”!
This is what is going to make progress possible.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:38 amWhen Ronald Reagan was in the Oval Office I thought there could never be any worse US president. When George W. Bush was president, I fondly recalled the days of Reagan and thought there could never be anyone worse than W. If Palin ever gets elected as president, not only will W. be looked upon fondly and as a genius, but we might be wiped out of existence.
Sadly, the only people who are dumber than Palin are the ones who support her.

July 7th, 2009 at 11:50 amOne thing’s for sure, Palin is still no Michelle Bachmann
July 7th, 2009 at 11:53 amAnd of course, to jump start the economy, she would rely upon the Department of Money.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:58 amAlso, she no doubt would assume that the State Department’s function is to act as liaison to the State of Alaska.
Any chance of a guest appearance on “Are you smarter than a 5th grader” ????

July 7th, 2009 at 12:50 pmDepartment of law? There should be a law keeping this woman as far away from the whitehouse as legally possible.
July 7th, 2009 at 12:54 pmI believe we have reached the saturation point on this witch. Please just forget about her.

July 7th, 2009 at 1:01 pmThe thing that I find amazing with Palin and Sanford is that they just keep talking. Has no one around them ever told them to just shut up? They could avoid so much by that little fact.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:02 pmOther than the fact she’s an idiot, how did she get away with all the ethics violations? None of them were accurate, really?
July 7th, 2009 at 1:06 pmIn as much as I dislike Palin we should never forget that over 40,000,000 Americans voted for her as VP.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:07 pmBut she can see the Department of Law from her front porch!
July 7th, 2009 at 1:10 pmI just heard a theory on local radio. Did Bible Spice quit because the paternity results, for Bristol’s baby, came in and Levi isn’t the Daddy?
July 7th, 2009 at 1:14 pmThat’s another big, fat, Palin lie, Rich H. She has been forced to repay monies in two separate cases. “Getting away with it” doesn’t equate with being forced to make payments to avoid prosecution. I call that getting caught and punished.

Point well taken
And, after I posted, I realized that she is still showing some of her trademark, ah, shortness of sight – having legal advisers won’t make stuff go away, but it might help the executive in question ‘avoid’ the complaints by avoiding ethically questionable actions.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:29 pmCan she see the department from her porch in Wasilla?
July 7th, 2009 at 1:29 pm“Palin thinks there is a ‘Department of Law’ at the White House.” lol What a twit. Lipstick on a dipstick.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:33 pmPete, I know she’s had to pay for her defense. At least that’s what she says, I know I couldn’t pay 500k for a legal defense. Where does that money come from? Not from being a non corrupt two and a half year governor supplemented by Todd’s part time fishing.
The numbers don’t add up, nor do the numbers on her house. I’m just curious how she got away with everything. And don’t tell me she’s not ethically challenged.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:35 pmIt’s not just the legal bills, Rich H. She has actually been forced to make payments on two different issues.
In February, Palin was required to pay back income taxes on thousands of dollars in expense money she received while living at her home overlooking Lake Lucille in Wasilla. Little more than two weeks ago she was forced to pay back the State of Alaska more than $8,100.00 for nine trips taken by her children that she had improperly charged as being part of official state business.

July 7th, 2009 at 2:10 pmScary is that many people voted for W because he was “just like them, someone you could have a beer with. ” So, intelligence doesn’t seem to be a requirement.
Palin’s comment of “your” dept of law makes one wonder if she would like Alaska to leave the United States. Well, if Alaska pays back the cost of the pipeline, might not be a bad idea.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:21 pmInaccuracy is evidence of a lazy, incurious mind. That’s why Sarah Palin constantly says things like this.
Remember last fall? She claimed that “the Vice President is in charge of the Senate,” too. And when Katie Couric asked her if she considered herself a feminist, she said “I do!”
In another interview with Brian Williams (with Grandpa McCain at her side), she carefully walked that one back.
Sarah Palin has developed a distinct pattern. When questioned, she typically says what comes to mind at the moment, whether or not it is true. On another occasion, she typically gives a different or completely contradictory answer.
Sarah Palin = multiple pathologies. I truly hope that she has the modesty to seek the help she obviously needs, and the patience/determination to stay with a treatment program. Unfortunately for her, she has not given us any signs that she possesses these traits.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:40 pmI think there is a new tongue twister to replace “Sally sells seashells at the seashore”…it’s “Silly, Sassy Sarah says something stupid again.”
July 7th, 2009 at 2:50 pmPete, I get the fact she’s had to repay (or pay) for things – i.e. the trips – that she should have paid for to begin with.
Just how does someone get to charge the state for living at home? I’d like to learn that one.
Please, she’s as honest as a three card monte dealer and as (morally) corrupt as Carl Rove.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:53 pmDid anyone else catch the interview of a Palin friend who claimed that “[Sarah Palin] was getting sick of the commute to Juneau”?
Unbelievable. As if Alaska just made Juneau its capital and she didn’t know that before running for governor 2 years ago.
Sarah Palin is such a fraud.
Don’t miss Andrew Sullivan’s current summary of “The Odd Lies of Sarah Palin” here.
July 7th, 2009 at 3:09 pmI heard a caller from Alaska on the radio last night. That caller said he had filed a complaint on behalf of the People of Alaska with the State government. Those charges have been adjudicated and Palin has been found to be in violation of a statute governing the use of per diem expense.
Per diem expenses are intended to reimburse State officials whose duties require them to travel and spend the night away from their own residence.
Seems that Palin has been charging the State of Alaska the maximum per diem she can for living in her house in Wasilla instead of in the Governor’s mansion which is in Juneau.
The mansion comes as a perk with the office at no charge and has to be paid for whether someone’s living there or not.
The Governor’s annual salary in Alaska is set at $125,000.00. Palin’s reimbursement checks for these bogus per diem charges have been cashed and exceed the amount of her salary.
This story isn’t really news, as you can find right wing idiots trying to defend Palin against these charges before the election was held last November. What’s new is the fact that the State has officially cited her for violating statutes governing what constitutes a valid per diem expense.
A legal action is in progress to force Palin to return those per diem fees she charged the State.

July 7th, 2009 at 3:55 pmHey! Maybe she’s going to run for President after all? She’s going to run for President of the Lonely State of Alaska.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:17 pmI don’t think anyone has ever accused Failin Palin of being the sharpest knife in the drawer.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:25 pmI find using Palin and think in the same sentence extremely annoying.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:40 pmI was struck by the odd phrase, “barracudas hunt in packs”. The obvious gaffe is that fish travel in schools, not packs. But, I decided to do a little reading about barracuda because I used to fish for them and recalled that we seldom caught more than one at a time/place.
Well. I found this tidbit at Wikipedia:
Adult barracudas are more or less solitary in their habits, while young and half-grown fish frequently congregate in schools. These fish do not care for their young.
So? Barracuda do not “hunt in packs” or schools once they are adults and the part about not caring for their young is just funny. But then, I dug up an old booklet, ca. 1970, about the sport fish of California and I found this bit that describes Bible Spice even better.
Under the heading “sport value” I found this:
“The barracuda strikes quickly from ambush. Good for one strong run then becomes exhausted and submits to the net.”
Hell’s bells! She really is a barracuda.

July 7th, 2009 at 5:39 pmThe more I think about it, am I correctly understanding that she is making 2 arguments. (For the moment, I am giving her a pass that she really meant White House Council / Department of Justice and just gave the wrong name):
1) 2 years as governor in Alaska is adequate experience to be president.
2) She couldn’t hack 2 years as Alaska governor due to all the scandals, but 4 years of president of the US will be just all peachy-keen neat-o ?
July 7th, 2009 at 6:08 pmI think on a national level, your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we’ve been charged with and automatically throw them out.
==============================================================
There was a time Ms. Palin when the Whitehouse would have insured these frivolous matters were not investigated. Times have changed and the Cheney/Bush machine has been put out into the street. You need a different mind set, the Republicans are not in power and it is not business as usual!
By resigning you can’t be impeached!
You may get lucky like Stevens and any charges may get dropped for technicalities!
The determination that you were a potential liability to the GOP remaining in the governor’s house may have been factor in your resignation.
I think you have some big problems that the GOP can’t fix and you may be looking at your days in court and hopefully time in jail.
Just a thought, flight

That’s what they keep howling about Geithner.
I don’t like or trust Geithner. On the other hand, he admitted his mistake and payed the fines and survived the media storm.
Bible Spice, on the other hand, is running around proclaiming that “all the investigations have been dismissed” when she has been found liable and made payments to make the investigations go away. And then the media keeps repeating her lie that all charges were dismissed.
It’s a subtle difference but, I think, a significant one.

I fail to see how, if this Administration doesn’t get public health care, a Republican who doesn’t support, never has supported, and never will support public healthcare will be the appropriate replacement.
Could someone explain that line of thinking? That’s like saying “That’s not the right shade of purple, so instead of getting the correct shade, we’ll just paint it orange instead.” WTF sense does that make?
