Palin’s resignation has ‘boosted her a bit among Republicans.’

A new USA Today/Gallup poll has found that “Sarah Palin’s bombshell that she is resigning as Alaska governor actually has boosted her a bit among Republicans.” According to the poll, “two-thirds of Republicans want Palin…to be ‘a major national political figure‘ in the future” while three-quarters of Democrats “hope she won’t be.” Seventy-two percent of Republicans surveyed said they are “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to vote for her if she runs for president:

This is not at all surprising. Republicans aren’t interested in leadership or governance. Failin’ Palin fits the bill for these losers — all they want is for their candidates to be lying pot-shot artists. The Pentacostal Pork-Barrel Princess of Wasilla is a republican wet-dream and, when she’s out of office, she will be able to perfect her skills. Just the same way that Rush Limpballs, Piss-ant Levine, Little Billy Kristol-Ball and Little Seanie Vanity do every day.

Do we need any more proof that the Republican Party is now the party of evangelical christians?

Imagine this woman in charge of our military: You betcha.

Or foreign policy: Hey, Putin, ya rearin’ yer ugly head again?

Or education: Abstinence only, babe, that’s the way to go. It’s good enough for my family, also. Too. And that. (wink)

Or health care: Ya see, this is where abstinence only makes sense. Because, you know, if girls can’t get birth control or abortions, they better, like, well, abstain. And that will lower taxes, because, you know, not having sex means you have more time to work and make money and the more money you make the less taxes the government has to collect.

Or the red button: You know, I’ve decided not to run for a second term, because, you know, these ethics investigations are keeping me from runnin’ my agenda, also, too, and this world is goin’ to hell in a handbasket, so, I quit. But instead of handin’ things over to my Vice President, Ann Coulter, ‘cuz she turned out to be such a pain in the you-know-what, my final act is going to be to push this little thingy…

  18. misscoleopteramolly says:

The 72% of Republicans who claimed to be “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to vote for Sarah Palin for president — it’s worth noting that the question Gallup asked didn’t indicate whether this vote would be in the Republican primaries or in the general election (even though they didn’t say so, it was probably implied that it was for the general election, since the question was also asked of Dems and Independents).

I can understand 72% of Republicans voting for “any Republican” over “any Democrat” in the general election — even if the Republican is somebody as unqualified for the job as Sarah Palin. But 72% of Republicans voting for Palin over other Republicans in the primaries just can’t be right. Would they really nominate somebody who’s about as qualified to be POTUS as I am (and I’m just an average person), when she would so obviously get her clock cleaned in November?

Were it not for this sobering fact, and the subsequent danger to the nation and the world that an election of Sarah as President might mean, however unlikely it seems, I would be all for Sarah running.

The entertainment value alone would be incalculable, and add to that the further dismantling of the Republican Party, well… it would be like the first week of the fall TV season when we were kids.

But as it stands, the risk is just too great that there are enough stupid people who simply want to see one of their own in the White House and that they could put her there.

Oh miss molly, you sell yourself short. You are way more qualified than Caribou Barbi. I bet you even know things like, the vice president doesn’t write legislation in Congress, and that there is not a Department of Law whose job it is to protect the president from the law.

  25. dbadass says:

    Morning ralph.
Are you suggesting that the relative number of stupid people has changed over time?

  26. ElBruce says:

I just don’t get it. You think the Alaska Republicans who voted for her, who want her to serve out her full term are happy with this? She’s walking away from the people who put her where she is. How is that a good thing? “Vote for me, I’ll bail on you halfway through!” Whether one likes her or not, likes her politics or not, we can’t have a President who just quits when the job isn’t fun for them any more.

    .

    Witch1 Says:

Can we move on to something other than this bimbo, please…

7 in 10 Republicans say they’d be likely to vote for her in 2012. That makes her the leading contender for the GOP primary at this stage in time. So no, she’s actually important.

    .

    Badmoodman Says:

Those 17% of the Democrats who might vote for her aren’t even sure what politics are.

You know, from these survey responses I’m starting to get a feeling that if you lined up any eight random U.S. citizens and asked them what 2 + 2 is, seven of them would say “four” and the last one would scream “TOAST!”

  27. paleolib says:

No surprise on the R side. I would guess that 80% of those Republicans who would vote for her think Obama is a foreign born Muslim. On the other hand, if 17% of those identifying as Dems really did hold out the possibility of voting for Palin, they must either (a) be so clueless that they don’t know one party from another; (b) think Michael Jackson was president and the one person who has been covered more by the infotainment industry over the past week should replace him; or (c) like to screw with the pollster.

That 72% of Republicans would vote for Palin today shows just how STUPID the Republican base has become.
    ____________________________________________________________

I suspect that 72% includes the following groups:

    1. The evangelical moralists, who like Palin’s positions on gay marriage and abortion, and couldn’t care less about any other issues.

    2. The “American Idol” people, who like the way she performs in front of a crowd.

    3. The people who see her as a “regular person like me” and can “relate” to her. These are the same people who voted for Bush because they wanted to have a beer with him.

    4. The guys who think she’s “hot”.

    5. The people who know the Republican Party is run by PNAC, big corporations, and K Street no matter who the standard bearer is. They know Palin would never make any policy decisions on her own, and they just want her for marketing purposes. Kinda like Dubya.

    6. And lastly — the people who are genuinely stupid (yes, there’s quite a bit of overlap with the other categories on this one).

    ralph the wonder locust Says:

I’m not suggesting that, dbadass. I’m simply suggesting that over recent years they have begun to coalesce under the Republican banner. Perhaps they find themselves appreciated there.

The shift in alignment is all because of Dubya. Prior Republicans with any combination of brains and decency were repulsed by the thought of such an “intellectually incurious” (aka. stoopid) person in the office of the Presidency, whereas imbeciles and sycophants enjoyed defending him. As long as the GOP was kicking ass and taking names, it was fun to be on the winning side even if everything you stood for was wrong – for people who have no problem with that, which is to say stupid and evil people – that was fine. But people with either any intelligence or any real moral standards couldn’t stomach being party to it, and drifted away as it became clearer and clearer what was going on.

Whether or not someone was a Republican came down to a simple question: can you stand the fact that that know-nothing idiot is running the country? Or more correctly that that evil psycho bastard (Cheney) is running it for him?

Thus, Bush was the lightning rod that polarized politics into the stupid and evil under the Republican banner, vs. the smart and decent, who were all easily picked up by Democrats.

Palin’s popularity within the party of stupidity and evil is the culmination of that process.

LET’S PUT THESE NUMBERS INTO PERSPECTIVE RELATIVE TO CURRENT VOTER PARTY IDENTIFICATION

These are some of the findings of an IPSOS poll conducted June 4-8, 2009.

“Do you consider yourself a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent or none of these?”

    Strongly Democrat 25
    Moderately Democrat 12
    Lean Democrat 14

    Strongly Republican 11
    Moderately Republican 10
    Lean Republican 10

    Independent (No lean) 17

    Initial Democrats 37
    Total Democrats 51

    Initial Republicans 21
    Total Republicans 31

For the sake of discussion, assume that Independents would split their votes evenly between a Democratic and Republican candidate adding 8.5 votes to both Democratic and Republican totals. That would give Democrats a 59.5 to 39.5 advantage in total voters.

DOES ANYONE BELIEVE THAT SARAH PALIN WILL GET MORE REPUBLICANS TO VOTE FOR HER THAN JOHN MCCAIN DID?

DOES ANYONE BELIEVE THAT SARAH PALIN WILL GET MORE VOTES IN NEW YORK, CALIFORNIA, ILLINOIS AND PENNSYLVANIA THAN JOHN MCCAIN DID, WHICH SHE MUST DO IN ORDER TO GAIN ENOUGH ELECTORAL VOTES TO DEFEAT OBAMA?

DOES ANYONE BELIEVE THAT SARAH PALIN WILL GET MORE YOUNG, BLACK, HISPANIC, GAY AND HIGHLY EDUCATED VOTERS TO VOTE FOR HER THAN JOHN MCCAIN DID?
