Palin’s key reason for resigning was inflated.

Sarah Palin One of the main reasons Sarah Palin cited for her resignation as Alaska’s governor was frustration with “frivolous ethics violations.” She said that she didn’t want to waste “valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars” go toward responding to the charges. Palin’s office provided the Anchorage Daily News “with a breakdown of what it says are $1.9 million in costs.” However, it appears that these costs may be inflated. Most of the $1.9 million is a “per-hour accounting” of the time that state employees have spent working on the charges, even though those “state employees would have been paid regardless.” Greg Sargent notes:

But [David] Murrow, the [governor's] spokesperson, acknowledged to our reporter, Amanda Erickson, that this total was arrived at by adding up attorney hours spent on fending off complaints — based on the fixed salaries of lawyers in the governor’s office and the Department of Law. The money would have gone to the lawyers no matter what they were doing. The complaints are “just distracting them from other duties,” Murrow said.

In other words, while these lawyers might have been free to do other legal work for the state, the ethics complaints have apparently not had the real world impact Palin has claimed, and didn’t drain money away from cops, teachers, roads and other things.

    Sarah Palin exaggerated something?

    SAY IT AIN’T SO!

winners never quit(but whiners do) and quitters never win.

    LOL!

    – - So we now know for sure that the cover-lie was another cover-lie. So what was the real reason for the sudden, 3 pm, don’t even tell your father-in-law, drag-Todd-back-from-the-peak-of-the-summer-run, meltdown on July 3? Watch for shoes falling from great heights. My neck is sore since last September.

  4. LizCoro says:

    Whatever happened to TROOPERGATE??

Alaska’s ‘Dept. of Law’ were defending Palin re this matter? WHY? This was a personal vendetta against her former brother-in-law and legal fees should have been paid by Palin personally, not the Alaskan taxpayers!!

  5. Uncle Ho says:

maybe her tryst with Mark Sanford is about to be blown.

  6. Badmoodman says:

Palin’s key reason for resigning was inflated.

    – - Palin has been a busy traveler since her bombshell announcement Friday. She has flown at least 2,300 miles – about the distance from Los Angeles to Miami in a journey that has skipped Anchorage and Fairbanks, where nearly half of the state’s population resides.

  7. evangenital says:

She’s nervous about something. It really has her spooked.

  8. Daddy-O says:

Ah, Sarah, we hardly knew ye…

Then again, she ain’t gone YET. Remember Senator Larry Craig? He announced HE would resign, too–but changed his mind and served out the remainder of his term.

Unless there’s a real crime–admittedly very likely–Sarah might decide she really likes all this attention. Most attention addicts do.

  9. liz09 says:

almost as inflated as her ego.

  10. RobertSeattle says:

She QUIT for the oldest reason in the book: M-O-N-E-Y.

Any other excuse is just spin.

  11. spencers mom says:

Palin’s key reason for resigning was inflated.

Palin’s ego is inflated. Palin’s resume is inflated. Palin’s future prospects are inflated. Palin’s approval numbers were inflated.

And who, upon giving just 2 weeks notice for the top job in a state, goes off on a publicity-whoring fishing trip? Wasn’t Tuesday a work day in Alaska?

    PEACE

  12. EndTheGOP says:

I would like to see this annoying chick disappear as much as anyone else, but this is just nitpicking and splitting hairs on accounting practices that are actually pretty common. I would prefer this story be approached from the angle that this is proof she is incapable of governing, because her own incompetence in the ethics legislation came back to bite her in the arse, and this is a convenient excuse for ducking out before she needs to prove she can do any real work or governing.

  13. Badmoodman says:

Palin’s key reason for resigning was inflated.

    – - If Palin were a Democrat, the Drudge Report would have cracked this open last September. Let’s go TP, find and drop the shoe.

  14. hellinabucket says:

Given her rambling excuses on why she’s quitting this doesn’t surprise me.

My concern is the never ending “Palin fix” the media seems to think is needed.

Until there’s substance to this ever changing story I’m going to pass over these.

  15. Badmoodman says:

    - – Over 1200 politicians have taken that first-term oath of office. Some soon died in office. Many resigned to accept other positions in government, including Spiro Agnew who was “tapped” by Nixon after being the Governor of Maryland for about five minutes. On a handful of occasions, a first-termer was dragged off to the slammer or impeached. One was incapacitated by a nervous breakdown and one left just as impeachment came knocking on his door. So—how many out of over 1200 just up and quit before the end of their term?

Three: Jim McGreevy, Eliot Spitzer and Sarah Palin.

  16. Max Anax junius -1 says:

    .

Imagine what Palin could have accomplished had she NOT frivolously violated ethics rules…
… And the lawyers could have accomplished real work.

Palin is as smart as one of those inflatable dolls that Republican Loves Facts like to play with.

  18. normalasf says:

The woman never met a statistic she couldn’t inflate.

  19. CParis says:

Is the level of investigations into Gov Palin’s administration and public activities significantly higher than for previous Alaska governors or other major politicians?
It seems that a certain level of “petty” lawsuits/ethics questions are just par for the course.

  20. Gregor Samsa says:

In all fairness, Sarah herself probably doesn’t even know why she quit.

This was as good an excuse as any other. Maybe the only one she could articulate, sort of, without having to think too much.

  21. dannylauve says:

While I, in no means approve of Sarah, this article is a bit of a stretch. The cost is warranted. The real point missed here is that she just could have stopped violating ethics policy. I guess quitting is a lot easier…. something to do with stripes, and trying to change them…

  22. normalasf says:

BTW, Spencer’s Mom — Tuesday was not a real work day in the Alaska Legislature. They only work 90 days a year.

    Session Schedules
    2010 Session: January 19, 2010 to April 18, 2010
    2009 Session: January 20, 2009 to April 19, 2009

    It’s HARD WORK People!!!

  23. dasm says:

“was inflated” = She lied again.

  24. gummble-bee-itch says:

Check out the coverage at Mudflats (which references another blogger with nifty pie charts). The conclusion?

I’m a sucker for a pie chart, and what this one says is that between the Troopergate probe that she herself initiated, the other Troopergate probe that found her guilty of ethics violations, the investigation that resulted in reimbursing the state for her children’s travel expenses, and the one that suggested ethics training for a top member of the administration… the biggest chunk of that pie is the governor’s doing and belongs right on the governor’s plate.

  25. Hoodathunktick says:

Palin’s key reason for resigning was inflated.

And the valve is right under her pony tail.

  26. Hoodathunktick says:

Sara has a complete history of duck and run. Every time she feels threatened that someone doesn’t recognize her princessness, she scrambles.

  27. Chrisdutch says:

Somewhere in Alaska a shoe is about to drop. The former possible maybe mother in law to be (Levi’s mom) was picked up for possession and is reportedly singing like a bird. Sarah needs to get out of Dodge City and get those speaking engagements booked or she’ll REALLY have financial issues.

  28. drago says:

The single greatest cost of Ethics Complaints during the Palin administration is the Ethics Complaint filed by Sarah Palin against Sarah Palin.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Sarah Palin is the Mother of All Hypocrites.

If she didn’t quit already, she should have been Impeached or Recalled.

  29. Buckie Boy says:

You can’t believe a word she says, it is all about attacking and blaming, don’t cha know, you betcha and too.

  30. johnny dol1ar says:

And all along we were thinking Moose Boogers was incompetent…

Moose Boogers is definitely GOPiggie Leadership Material.
She can lie and play victim with a wink and a “ya betcha”

Moose Boogers / Joe the Plunger 2012!

  31. Bobwurst says:

It’s precisely these kinds of frivilous attacks, (using truth and logic fer the love of Pete?!?!?!) by you posters that drove sweet sarah from her God appointed position as beauty queen in chief of the State of Alaska, you betcha! ;-)

  32. The Angry Republican says:

Palin’s key reason for resigning was inflated.

What what? she got a boob job and quit?

  33. Bobwurst says:

    drago Says:

The single greatest cost of Ethics Complaints during the Palin administration is the Ethics Complaint filed by Sarah Palin against Sarah Palin.

And in filing that complaint against herself she proved she is a tireless fighter against corruption and dishonesty, also. Sarah knows the only person in Alaska that cares more about Alaska and is a tougher fighter than sarah palin is herself. She knew that if she didnt’ stand up to herself and file that complaint, well nobody else would have the courage to do it! She chased the most corrupt offical of Alaska clean out of government, and even though she made Sarah Palin quit, she quit for the good of the state. And she proved she was a fighter not a a quitter….also.

  34. J. Fred Smug says:

Sarah Palin apparently lies so much that she can’t keep track of the lies and eventually, the truth always comes out.

  35. John Barringer says:

Of course Palin will inflate the cost of investigating her because it serves to inflate her importance, at least in her own mind.

Then there’s the fact that, especially if any of these investigations are into possible crimes, resigning from office ain’t likely to make them go away.

  37. hanshiro the antlion says:

    A list of Palin’s lies.

(yes, someone has collected them so far…)

    Excerpt:

Palin lied when she claimed to have taken a voluntary pay cut as mayor; in fact, as councilmember she had voted against a raise for the mayor, but subsequent raises had taken effect by the time she was mayor.

Palin lied when she insisted that Wooten’s divorce proceedings had caused his confidential records to become public; in fact, court officials confirmed they released no such records.

Palin lied when she suggested to Katie Couric that she was involved in trade missions with Russia; in fact, she has never even met with Russian officials.

Palin lied when she told Shimon Peres that the only flag in her office was the Israeli flag; in fact, she has several flags.

Palin lied when she claimed to have tried to divest government funds from Sudan; in fact, her administration openly opposed a bill that would have done just that.

  38. vigor says:

Y’all lib are makin’ too much of this.

I think A. Coulter got this one right.

Governor Palin resigned so she can make you libs act the way you act when you’re confronted a strong conservative woman – God fearin’, mother, and hunter, who happens to be a good looking Governor. She rattles the feminists in the Demo party.

Sarah gets a big, crazy response from you libs – like what’s been posted so far.

  39. hanshiro the antlion says:

    39. vigor Says: Governor Palin resigned so she can make you libs act the way you act when you’re confronted a strong conservative woman…

Yes, that’s it. Never mind that she joins a long list of republican ‘quitterati,’ like Ney, the Dukester and Foley. Sanford just walked off…

The party of ‘cut and run.’

  40. carolinadancer says:

Okay, got this from a media person…..

Between the “scandals” and the “wardrobe issues” plus she and Bristol’s medical expenses not covered by insurance, special stuff for Sarah’s baby, and etc. ad nauseum, the Governess is broke. As in flat. Since Todd doesn’t exactly pull in a hefty sum in that professional career of his (loses money) he isn’t much help on that front.

Fox execs verbally offered Sarah the chance to co-star with Elizabeth whosiwhatsit from The View in a conservative talk show to be shown around the same time during the daytime AFTER SHE LEFT THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE. Well, she suddenly pops up and resigns two weeks after receiving this offer, and now Fox is backpedaling…

Sarah is reportedly furious about all of this, as she was looking forward to possibly moving to Hollywood or New York City if this deal went through, and has actually tried to get the great RM on the phone personally to deal with it, but so far he’s not returning her phone calls. Babe, next time, get it in writing…

  41. Buckie Boy says:

She could sell that house in Wasilla, it’s not like it cost her anything to build it.

I am shocked, Bimbo Barbie lied? A rethuglican stretched the truth? My world is rocked off center. The religiocity right wing lied? I cannot believe.
